śrīvasiṣṭhaṃ uvāca | vavurvalitanīhārā vikīrṇavanapallavāḥ | vāyavo dhūtavṛkṣaughāḥ sallīlāpīḍapāṃsavaḥ || 1 ||
Vasishtha said: The winds blew, scattering the mist, dispersing the forest leaves, shaking the trees, and playing with the dust.
वसिष्ठ ने कहा: हवाएँ चलीं, कुहरा बिखेरती हुई, वन के पत्ते बिखेरती हुई, पेड़ों को हिलाती हुई, और धूल के साथ खेलती हुई।
पक्षिवद्भ्रान्तवृक्षौघाः पतनोत्पातनोद्भटाः | विकुट्टिताट्टालखण्डाश्चाभ्रभित्तिविभेदिनः || २ ||
pakṣivadbhrāntavṛkṣaughāḥ patanotpātanodbhaṭāḥ | vikuṭṭitāṭṭālakhaṇḍāścābhrahitvibhedinaḥ || 2 ||
The trees swayed like birds, falling and rising violently, breaking branches and shattering the clouds.
पेड़ पक्षियों की तरह हिले, गिरते-उठते हुए, डालों को तोड़ते हुए और बादलों को चीरते हुए।
तेनातिभीमवातेन विदूरथरथोऽप्यथ | उह्यमानोऽभवन्नद्या यथा जर्जरपल्लवः || ३ ||
tenātibhīmavātena vidūratharatho’pyatha | uhyamāno’bhavannadyā yathā jarjarapallavaḥ || 3 ||
Due to the extremely fierce wind, even Viduratha's chariot was lifted and carried away by the river, like a withered leaf.
अत्यंत भयानक हवा के कारण, विदुरथ का रथ भी नदी द्वारा उठाया गया और सूखे पत्ते की तरह बहा दिया गया।
विदूरथोऽथ तत्याज पार्वतास्त्रं महास्त्रवित् | व्योमापि घनतोयेन समादातुमिवोद्यतम् || ४ ||
vidūratho’tha tatyāja pārvatāstraṃ mahāstravit | vyomāpi ghanatoyena samādātumivodyatam || 4 ||
Then Viduratha abandoned the mountain weapon, knowing it to be a great weapon, as if the sky itself was ready to take it with dense water.
तब विदुरथ ने पर्वत अस्त्र को छोड़ दिया, जानते हुए कि यह एक महान अस्त्र है, मानो आकाश खुद घने पानी के साथ इसे लेने के लिए तैयार हो।
तेन शैलास्त्रघातेन विराट् प्राणसमीरणः | शमं चैतन्यशान्त्येव प्रययौ वायुराततः || ५ ||
tena śailāstraghātena virāṭ prāṇasamīraṇaḥ | śamaṃ caitanyśāntyeva prayayau vāyurātataḥ || 5 ||
With the strike of that mountain weapon, the mighty wind, the life-breath, calmed down, and the consciousness became peaceful.
उस पर्वत अस्त्र की चोट से, महान हवा, जो प्राण की साँस है, शांत हो गई, और चेतना शांत हो गई।
अन्तरिक्षगता वृक्षपङ्क्तयः पतिता भुवि | नानाजनशवव्यूहे काकानामिव कोटयः || ६ ||
antarikṣagatā vṛkṣapaṅktayaḥ patitā bhuvi | nānājanaśavavyūhe kākānāmiva koṭayaḥ || 6 ||
Trees from the sky fell to the ground, like flocks of crows in the array of various dead bodies.
आकाश से पेड़ों की पंक्तियाँ धरती पर गिरीं, जैसे कौओं के झुंड मृत शरीरों की व्यूह रचना में।
शेमुः सूत्त्कारडान्कारभांकारोत्कारका दिशाम् | प्रलापा इव विध्वस्ताः पूर्ग्रामवनवीरुधाम् || ७ ||
śemuḥ sūttkāraḍānkārabhāṃkārotkārakā diśām | pralāpā iva vidhvastāḥ pūrgrāmavanavīrudhām || 7 ||
The directions echoed with the sounds of lamentations, like the confused chatter of the destroyed villages, forests, and trees.
दिशाएँ विलाप की आवाजों से गूँज उठीं, जैसे नष्ट हुए गाँवों, जंगलों और पेड़ों की उलझी हुई बातचीत।
गिरीनपश्यन्नभसः पततः पत्रवर्णवत् | सिन्धुः सिन्धुरिवोत्पक्षान्मैनाकादीनितस्ततः || ८ ||
girīnapaśyannabhasaḥ patataḥ patravarṇavat | sindhuḥ sindhurivotpakṣānmainākādīnitastataḥ || 8 ||
Seeing the mountains falling from the sky like leaves, the ocean rose up with waves like Mainaka and other mountains.
पहाड़ों को आकाश से पत्तों की तरह गिरते देखकर, समुद्र मैनाक और अन्य पहाड़ों की तरह लहरों के साथ उठा।
वज्रास्त्रमसृजद्दीप्तं चेरुर्वज्रगणास्ततः | पिबन्तोऽद्रीन्द्रतिमिरमग्निदाहमिवाग्नयः || ९ ||
vajrāstramasṛjaddīptaṃ cerurvajragaṇāstatḥ | pibanto'drīndratimiramagnidāhamivāgnayaḥ || 9 ||
He released the brilliant thunderbolt weapon, and then the group of thunderbolts moved, drinking the darkness of the mountains like fires consuming a forest fire.
उसने चमकदार वज्र अस्त्र छोड़ा, और फिर वज्र समूह चला, जैसे आग जंगल की आग को जलाकर पी रही हो, पहाड़ों के अंधेरे को पीते हुए।
ते गिरीणां तथा क्षिप्ताः कोटितुण्डावखण्डनैः | शिरांसि पातयामासुः फलानीवोल्बणानिलाः || १० ||
te girīṇāṃ tathā kṣiptāḥ koṭituṇḍāvakhaṇḍanaiḥ | śirāṃsi pātayāmāsuḥ phalānīvoulbaṇānilāḥ || 10 ||
Those mountains, thus thrown, with their peaks and fragments, caused the heads to fall like fruits shaken by the wind.
वे पहाड़, इस प्रकार फेंके गए, उनकी चोटियों और टुकड़ों से, सिरों को हवा से हिलाए गए फलों की तरह गिरा दिया।

vidūratho'tha vajrāstrashāntyai brahmāstramatyagāt tato brahmāstravajrāstre samaṃ praśamamāgate || 11 ||
Then Viduratha, to pacify the Vajra weapon, released the Brahma weapon. Then, both the Brahma and Vajra weapons were pacified together.
तब विदूरथ ने वज्रास्त्र को शान्त करने के लिए ब्रह्मास्त्र का प्रयोग किया। फिर, ब्रह्मास्त्र और वज्रास्त्र दोनों शान्त हो गए।
श्यामाश्यामं पिशाचास्त्रमथ सिन्धुरचोदयत् तेनोदगुः पिशाचानां पङ्क्तयोऽत्यन्तभीतिदाः || १२ ||
śyāmāśyāmaṃ piśācāstramatha sindhuracodayat tenodaguḥ piśācānāṃ paṅktayo'tyantabhītidāḥ || 12 ||
Then Sindhura invoked the dark Pishacha weapon, which caused the Pishachas to rise in terrifying rows.
तब सिंधुर ने भयानक पिशाचास्त्र का प्रयोग किया, जिससे पिशाचों की भयानक पंक्तियाँ उभरीं।
संध्यायामथ भीत्येव दिवसः श्यामतां ययौ पिशाचा भुवनं जग्मुरन्धकारभरा इव || १३ ||
saṃdhyāyāmatha bhītyeva divasaḥ śyāmatāṃ yayau piśācā bhuvanaṃ jagmurandhakārabharā iva || 13 ||
At dusk, due to fear, the day turned dark, and the Pishachas filled the world like a mass of darkness.
संध्या के समय, भय के कारण, दिन अंधेरा हो गया, और पिशाच अंधकार की तरह दुनिया भर गए।
भस्मनः स्तम्भसदृशास्तालोत्तालविलासिनः दृश्यमानमहाकारा मुष्टिग्राह्या न किंचन || १४ ||
bhasmanaḥ stambhasadṛśāstālottālavilāsinaḥ dṛśyamānamahākārā muṣṭigrāhyā na kiṃcana || 14 ||
They appeared like pillars of ash, dancing with the rhythm of the palms, visible in great forms, but nothing could be grasped.
वे राख के स्तंभों की तरह दिखाई देते थे, हाथों की लय पर नाचते हुए, बड़े रूपों में दिखाई देते थे, लेकिन कुछ भी पकड़ा नहीं जा सकता था।
ऊर्ध्वकेशाः कृशाङ्गाश्च केचिच्च श्मश्रुला अपि कृष्णाङ्गा मलिनाङ्गाश्च ग्राम्या इव नभश्चराः || १५ ||
ūrdhvakeśāḥ kṛśāṅgāśca kecicca śmaśrulā api kṛṣṇāṅgā malināṅgāśca grāmyā iva nabhaścarāḥ || 15 ||
Some had upward-standing hair, thin bodies, and were bearded. Others had dark and dirty bodies, looking like villagers moving in the sky.
कुछ के बाल ऊपर की ओर खड़े थे, शरीर दुबले थे, और दाढ़ी वाले थे। दूसरे काले और गंदे शरीर वाले थे, जो आकाश में चलते गाँव वालों की तरह दिखाई देते थे।
सभया मूढदृष्टाश्च यत्किंचनकराश्चलाः | दीना वज्रासिनः क्रूरा दीना ग्राम्यजना इव || १६ ||
sabhayā mūḍhadṛṣṭāśca yatkiṃcanakarāścalāḥ | dīnā vajrāsinaḥ krūrā dīnā grāmyajanā iva || 16 ||
All were frightened and foolish, trembling with every little thing | They were miserable, cruel like village people with thunderbolt weapons
सभी भयभीत और मूर्ख थे, हर छोटी चीज से काँप रहे थे | वे दुःखी, क्रूर थे जैसे गाँव के लोग वज्र हथियारों के साथ

tarukardamarathyāntaḥ śūnyagehagṛhāścalāḥ | lelihānāḥ pretarūpā kṛṣṇāṅgāścapalā iva || 17 ||
They were like empty houses with dusty trees, trembling | Licking their lips, they looked like dark-bodied ghosts, unsteady
वे धूल भरे पेड़ों वाले खाली घरों के समान काँप रहे थे | होंठ चाटते हुए, वे काले शरीर वाले भूतों की तरह अस्थिर लग रहे थे
जगृहुस्ते तदा मत्ता हतशिष्टमरेर्बलम् | आसंस्तत्सैनिकास्तत्र भिन्नास्त्रक्षुब्धचेतनाः || १८ ||
jagṛhuste tadā mattā hataśiṣṭamarerbalam | āsaṃstat sai nikāstatra bhinnāstrakṣubdhacetanāḥ || 18 ||
Then, those intoxicated ones seized the remaining strength of the enemy | Those soldiers there, with broken weapons and disturbed minds, took refuge
तब, उन मतवालों ने शत्रु की शेष शक्ति को पकड़ लिया | वहाँ के वे सैनिक, टूटे हथियारों और विचलित मन के साथ, शरण ली

Abandoning their weapons and armor, frightened for their lives, stumbling | With eyes, limbs, faces, and feet showing various distortions
अपने हथियारों और कवच को छोड़कर, अपनी जान के लिए डरे हुए, लड़खड़ाते हुए | आँखों, अंगों, मुँह और पैरों से विभिन्न विकृतियाँ दिखाते हुए
त्यक्तकौपीनवसना निमग्नावसनोत्तराः | विष्ठां मूत्रं च कुर्वन्तः स्थिरमारब्धनर्तनाः || २० ||
tyaktakaupīnavasanā nimagnāvasanottarāḥ | viṣṭhāṃ mūtraṃ ca kurvantaḥ sthiramārabdhanartanāḥ || 20 ||
Abandoning their loincloths and clothes, immersed in excrement and urine | They began to dance firmly
अपने लंगोट और कपड़े छोड़कर, मल-मूत्र में डूबे हुए | वे दृढ़ता से नृत्य करने लगे
पिशाचराजी राजानं तस्य यावद्विदूरथम् | समाक्रामति तावत्तां मायां स बुबुधे बुधः || २१ ||
piśācarājī rājānaṃ tasya yāvadvidūratham | samākrāmati tāvattāṃ māyāṃ sa bubudhe budhaḥ || 21 ||
The wise king understood the illusion of the Pishacha king as soon as he approached him.
बुद्धिमान राजा ने जैसे ही पिशाच राजा के पास पहुंचा, उसकी माया को समझ लिया।
पिशाचसंग्रामकरीं मायां वेत्ति स भूमिपः | तया पिशाचसैन्यं तत्परसैन्ये न्ययोजयत् || २२ ||
piśācasaṃgrāmakarīṃ māyāṃ vetti sa bhūmipaḥ | tayā piśācasainyaṃ tatparasainye nyayojayat || 22 ||
The king, knowing the battle-causing illusion of the Pishachas, deployed the Pishacha army against the enemy army with that illusion.
राजा, जो पिशाचों की युद्ध-उत्पन्न करने वाली माया को जानता था, उस माया से पिशाच सेना को शत्रु सेना के विरुद्ध तैनात कर दिया।

Then, his own soldiers, being safe, the Pishacha warriors, enemies, quickly gave him another formidable weapon out of anger.
तब, अपने सैनिक, जो सुरक्षित थे, पिशाच योद्धाओं, शत्रुओं ने क्रोध से तुरंत उसे एक और भयंकर हथियार दिया।

From the sky, the formidable beings with upward-facing hair, sunken and terrible eyes, and swaying hips and breasts appeared.
आकाश से, ऊपर की ओर उठे हुए बालों वाले, डूबे हुए और भयानक आंखों वाले, और हिलती हुई कमर और स्तनों वाले भयंकर प्राणी प्रकट हुए।
उद्भिन्नयौवना वृद्धाः पीवराङ्ग्योऽथ जर्जराः | स्वरूपारूपजघना दुर्नाभ्यो विकसद्भगाः || २५ ||
udbhinnayauvanā vṛddhāḥ pīvarāṅgyo'tha jarjarāḥ | svarūpārūpajaghana durnābhyo vikasadbhagāḥ || 25 ||
With bursting youth, old age, plump bodies, and decrepit, with beautiful and ugly hips, with bad navels and blooming vaginas.
फूटती हुई यौवन, बुढ़ापा, मोटे शरीर, और जर्जर, सुंदर और भद्दे कटि, खराब नाभि और खिलती हुई योनि वाले।
नररक्तशिरोहस्ताः संध्याभ्रारुणगात्रिकाः| अर्धचर्वितमांसासृक्स्रवत्सृक्क्याकुलाननाः || २६ ||
nararaktaśirohastāḥ saṃdhyābhrāruṇagātrikāḥ| ardhacarvitamāṃsāsṛksravatsṛkkyākulānanāḥ || 26 ||
With human blood on their hands, their bodies the color of twilight clouds, their faces distorted with half-chewed flesh and dripping blood, they were terrifying.
उनके हाथों में मनुष्य का रक्त था, उनके शरीर संध्या के बादलों के रंग के थे, उनके चेहरे अर्ध-चबाए मांस और रक्त से भरे हुए थे, वे भयानक थे।

With various twisted limbs, different names, and excellent minds, they had bodies with stone-like, serpentine, crooked, and massive hips and sides.

With the bodies of women, children, and corpses, holding intestines in their hands, with faces like dogs, crows, and owls, and with sunken mouths and jaws.
उनके शरीर महिलाओं, बच्चों, और शवों के थे, उनके हाथों में आंतें थीं, उनके चेहरे कुत्तों, कौओं, और उल्लूओं के समान थे, और उनके मुंह और जबड़े धंसे हुए थे।

They seized those weak and miserable Pishachas, who were like helpless children. The army of Pishachas then became unified.
उन्होंने उन दुर्बल और दुःखी पिशाचों को पकड़ लिया, जो बेबस बच्चों के समान थे। पिशाचों की सेना तब एकता में आ गई।
निर्मग्ननर्तनोत्तानवदनाङ्गविलोचनम्| परस्पराक्रान्तिकरं प्रधावच्च परस्परम् || ३० ||
nirmagnanartanottānavadanāṅgavilocanam| parasparsākrāntikaraṃ pradhāvacca parasparam || 30 ||
With faces and limbs immersed in a wild dance, their eyes rolling, they rushed towards each other, attacking and running around.

The huge tongues were expelled, and various facial expressions were suppressed. The corpses, being dragged by each other, were filled with the weight of the Śarabha.
बड़ी जीभें निकाली गईं, और विभिन्न मुख विकार दबा दिए गए। शव एक-दूसरे द्वारा खींचे जा रहे थे, और शरभ के भार से भरे हुए थे।
रुधिराम्भसि मज्जं तदुन्मज्जद्धृल्लसत्तनु| लम्बोदरं लम्बभुजं लम्बकर्णोष्ठनासिकम् || ३२ ||
rudhirāmbhasi majjaṃ tadunmajjaddhṛllasattanu| lambodaraṃ lambabhujaṃ lambakarṇoṣṭhanāsikam || 32 ||
Immersed in the blood-water, it emerged with a thrilling body, with a hanging belly, hanging arms, and hanging ears, lips, and nose.
रक्त जल में डूबा हुआ, वह एक थ्रिलिंग शरीर के साथ उभरा, लटकता पेट, लटकते हाथ, और लटकते कान, होंठ और नाक के साथ।

In the great mud of blood and flesh, they were swaying against each other, making a tumultuous noise like the churning of the ocean of milk by Mandara.
रक्त और मांस के बड़े कीचड़ में, वे एक-दूसरे के खिलाफ हिल रहे थे, मंदर द्वारा दूध के समुद्र के मंथन की तरह शोर कर रहे थे।

yathaiva māyāsaṃcārastena tasya kṛtaḥ purā| tenāpi tasyāśu tathā kṛto buddhvā sa lāghavāt || 34 ||
Just as the magical illusion was created by him in the past, he quickly created the same for him, understanding it with ease.
जैसे उसने पहले जादू का प्रदर्शन किया था, उसने उसके लिए तुरंत वही किया, उसे आसानी से समझकर।
वेतालास्त्रं ततो दत्ते तेनोत्तस्थुः शवव्रजाः| अमूर्धानः समूर्धानो वेताला वेशवल्लिताः || ३५ ||
vetālāstram tato datte tenottasthuḥ śavavrajāḥ| amūrdhānaḥ samūrdhāno vetālā veśavallitāḥ || 35 ||
Then the Vetala weapon was given, and the corpses rose up, some headless, some with heads, the Vetalas dressed in various forms.
फिर वेताल अस्त्र दिया गया, और शव उठे, कुछ सिर के बिना, कुछ सिर के साथ, वेताल विभिन्न रूपों में सजे हुए।

Then, taking the form of fierce ghosts and demons, it became a terrible force capable of swallowing the earth.

Then another king, employing his magical powers, created a demonic weapon aimed at conquering the three worlds.

Giant demons, resembling mountains, emerged from the underworld, as if they were hellish beings.
पर्वतों के समान विशाल राक्षस पाताल से निकले, मानो वे नरक के प्राणी हों।
अथोदभूद्बलं भीमं ससुरासुरभीतिदम् गर्जद्रक्षोमहानादवाद्यनृत्यत्कबन्धकम् || ३९ ||
athodabhūdbalaṃ bhīmaṃ sasurāsurabhītidam garjadrakṣomahānādavādyanṛtyatkabandhakam || 39 ||
Then arose a terrible force, causing fear among gods and demons, accompanied by the roaring of demons and the dance of skeletons.
तब एक भयंकर शक्ति उभरी, जो देवताओं और असुरों में भय पैदा कर रही थी, राक्षसों के गर्जन और कंकालों के नृत्य के साथ।
मेदोमांसोपदंशाढ्यं रुधिरासवसुन्दरम् क्षीबकूश्माण्डवेतालयक्षताण्डवसुन्दरम् || ४० ||
medomāṃsopadaṃśāḍhyaṃ rudhirāsavasundaram kṣībakūśmāṇḍavetālayakṣatāṇḍavasundaram || 40 ||
It was adorned with fat and flesh, beautiful with the essence of blood, and delightful with the dance of skeletons, pumpkins, ghosts, and yakshas.
यह चर्बी और मांस से सजा हुआ था, खून के रस से सुंदर, और कंकालों, कद्दू, भूतों और यक्षों के नृत्य से आनंददायक था।
कूश्माण्डकोत्ताण्डवदण्डपादक्षुब्धासृगुत्क्षिप्ततरङ्गसिक्तैः | संध्याभ्ररागोत्करकोटिकान्ति भूतैरसृक्स्रोतसि दत्तसेतु || ४१ ||
kūśmāṇḍakottāṇḍavadaṇḍapādakṣubdhāsṛgutkṣiptataraṅgasiktaiḥ | sandhyābhrarāgotkarkoṭikānti bhūtairasṛksrotasi dattasetu || 41 ||
The setting sun's rays, reflected on the clouds, appear as if a bridge is formed by the blood flowing from the wounds inflicted by the blows of the gourd-headed staff of the dancing Shiva.
सूर्यास्त की किरणें बादलों पर पड़कर ऐसे प्रतीत होती हैं मानो शिव के कर्तब से लगे घावों से बहते हुए खून से पुल बना हो।
