śrīrāma uvāca | evaṃ saṃkathayantīṣu tāsu tasmingṛhodare | vidūrathaḥ kimakaronnirgatya kupito gṛhāt || 1 ||
Shri Rama said: While they were conversing in this manner in the house, what did Viduratha do after leaving the house in anger?
श्री राम ने कहा: जब वे घर में इस प्रकार बात कर रहे थे, तब विदूरथ घर से क्रोध में निकलने के बाद क्या किया?
श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | विदूरथः स्वसदनान्निर्गतः परिवारितः | परिवारेण महता ऋक्षौघेणेव चन्द्रमाः || २ ||
śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | vidūrathaḥ svasadanānnirgataḥ parivāritaḥ | parivāreṇa mahatā ṛkṣaugheṇeva candramāḥ || 2 ||
Shri Vasistha said: Viduratha, having left his house, was surrounded by a large retinue, like the moon surrounded by a multitude of stars.
श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: विदूरथ अपने घर से निकला और एक बड़े परिवार से घिरा हुआ था, जैसे चंद्रमा तारों के समूह से घिरा होता है।
सन्नद्धसर्वावयवो लग्नहारविभूषणः | महाजयजयारावैः सुरेन्द्र इव निर्गतः || ३ ||
sannaddhasarvāvayavo lagna hāravibhūṣaṇaḥ | mahājayajayārāvaiḥ surendra iva nirgataḥ || 3 ||
Fully armed and adorned with a garland, he emerged like Indra, the king of gods, with great shouts of victory.
पूरी तरह से हथियारों से लैस और हार से सजा हुआ, वह महान विजय के नारों के साथ इंद्र, देवराज की तरह बाहर निकला।
समादिशन्योधगणं शृण्वन्मण्डलसंस्थितिम् | आलोकयन्वीरगणानारुरोह नृपो रथम् || ४ ||
samādiśanyodhagaṇaṃ śṛṇvanmaṇḍalasaṃsthitim | ālokayanvīragaṇānāruroha nṛpo ratham || 4 ||
Instructing the army, listening to the arrangement of the battle formation, and looking at the heroes, the king mounted the chariot.
सेना को निर्देश देते हुए, युद्ध व्यूह की व्यवस्था सुनते हुए, और वीरों को देखते हुए, राजा ने रथ पर सवार हुआ।
कूटाकारसमाकारं मुक्तामाणिक्यमण्डितम् | पताकापञ्चभिर्व्याप्तं द्युविमानमिवोत्तमम् || ५ ||
kūṭākārasamākāraṃ muktāmāṇikyamaṇḍitam | patākāpañcabhirvyāptaṃ dyuvimānamivottamam || 5 ||
The chariot was beautifully shaped like a fortress, adorned with pearls and jewels, and covered with five flags, resembling an excellent celestial chariot.
रथ एक किले की तरह सुंदर आकार का था, मोती और रत्नों से सजा हुआ, और पाँच झंडों से ढका हुआ, एक उत्कृष्ट दिव्य रथ की तरह लग रहा था।
चक्रभित्तिपरिप्रोतप्रकचत्काञ्चनाङ्कुरम् | मुक्ताजालरणत्कारचारुविक्रमकूबरम् || ६ ||
cakrabhittipariprotaprakacatkāñcanāṅkuram | muktājālarṇatkāracāruvikramakūbaram || 6 ||
The chariot, adorned with golden sprouts and resounding with the tinkling of pearl strings, is beautiful with its splendid strides.
रथ, सोने के अंकुरों से सजा हुआ और मोती की लड़ियों की झंकार से भरा हुआ, अपने शानदार कदमों के साथ सुंदर है।
सुग्रीवैर्लक्षणोपेतैः प्रशस्तैः प्रचलैः कृशैः | जवोड्डयनवेगेन प्रवहद्भिः सुरानिव || ७ ||
sugrīvairlakṣaṇopetaiḥ praśastaiḥ pracalaiḥ kṛśaiḥ | javoḍḍayanavegena pravahadbhiḥ surāniva || 7 ||
With excellent, swift, and slender horses adorned with auspicious marks, they flowed like gods with the speed of the wind.
शुभ चिह्नों से युक्त, उत्तम, तेज और पतले घोड़ों के साथ, वे वायु की गति से देवताओं की तरह बहे।
वायुं जवेन सहसा असहद्भिर्गतिक्रमैः | प्रोह्यद्भिरिव पश्चार्धमापिबद्भिरिवाम्बरम् || ८ ||
vāyuṃ javena sahasā asahadbhirgatikramaiḥ | prohyadbhiriva paścārdhamāpibadbhirivāmbaram || 8 ||
Suddenly, with their swift speed, they could not bear the wind, as if they were driving it away and swallowing the sky.
अचानक, अपनी तेज गति से, वे हवा को सहन नहीं कर सके, मानो उसे दूर कर रहे हों और आकाश को निगल रहे हों।
योजितैरिव संपूर्णैश्चन्द्रैश्चामरदीप्तिभिः | अश्वैरष्टभिराबद्धमाशापूरकहेषितैः || ९ ||
yojitairiva saṃpūrṇaiścandraiścāmaradīptibhiḥ | aśvairaṣṭabhirābaddhamāśāpūrakahēṣitaiḥ || 9 ||
As if yoked with complete moons shining like chowries, the chariot was bound with eight horses, their neighing filling the hopes.
मानो पूर्ण चंद्रमाओं के साथ जुड़े हुए, चामर की तरह चमकते हुए, रथ आठ घोड़ों से बँधा हुआ था, उनकी हिनहिनाहट आशाओं को भर रही थी।
अथोदपतदुद्दामनागाभ्ररवनिर्भरः | शैलभित्तिप्रतिध्वानदारुणो दुन्दुभिध्वनिः || १० ||
athodapataduddāmanāgābhraravanirbharaḥ | śailabhittipratidhvānadāruṇo dundubhidhvaniḥ || 10 ||
Then arose a tremendous sound like the roar of clouds and the echo of mountains, a terrible sound of drums.
तब एक विशाल ध्वनि उठी, जैसे बादलों की गर्जना और पर्वतों की प्रतिध्वनि, एक भयानक डंके की आवाज।
मत्तसैनिकनिर्मुक्तैर्व्याप्तं कलकलारवैः | किंकिणीजालनिर्ध्वानैर्हेतिसंघट्टघट्टितैः || ११ ||
mattasainikanirmuktairvyāptaṃ kalakalāravaiḥ | kiṃkiṇījālanirdhvānairhetisaṃghaṭṭaghaṭṭitaiḥ || 11 ||
The battlefield was filled with the loud clamor of intoxicated soldiers, the clanging of bells, the clashing of weapons, and the twanging of bowstrings.
मतवाले सैनिकों के शोर से भरा हुआ था, घंटों की आवाज से, हथियारों की टक्कर से और धनुष की टंकार से।
धनुश्चटचटाशब्दैः शरसीत्कारगायनैः | परस्पराङ्गनिष्पिष्टकवचौघझणज्झणैः || १२ ||
dhanuścaṭacaṭāśabdaiḥ śarasītkāragāyanaiḥ | parasparāṅganiṣpiṣṭakavacaughajañjhaṇaiḥ || 12 ||
The battlefield resonated with the sound of bowstrings twanging, the hissing of arrows, and the clashing of armor as soldiers struck each other.
युद्धक्षेत्र धनुष की टंकार, तीरों की सीत्कार और सैनिकों के कवचों की टक्कर से गूँज रहा था।
ज्वलदग्निटणत्कारैरार्तिमत्क्रन्दनारवैः | परस्परभटाह्वानैर्बन्दिविक्षुब्धरोदनैः || १३ ||
jvaladagniṭaṇatkārairārtimatkrandanāravaiḥ | parasparabhaṭāhvānairbandivikṣubdharodanaiḥ || 13 ||
The battlefield was filled with the crackling sound of burning fires, the cries of the wounded, the calls of soldiers to each other, and the lamentations of the distressed.
युद्धक्षेत्र जलती आग की चटचटाहट, घायलों के चीखने-चिल्लाने, सैनिकों के एक-दूसरे को पुकारने और दुःखी लोगों के विलाप से भरा हुआ था।
शिलाघनीकृताशेषब्रह्माण्डकुहरो ध्वनिः | हस्तग्राह्योऽभवद्भीमो दशाशाकुञ्जपूरकः || १४ ||
śilāghanīkṛtāśeṣabrahmāṇḍakuharo dhvaniḥ | hastagrāhyo'bhavadbhīmo daśāśākuñjapūrakaḥ || 14 ||
The sound became immense, as if the entire universe was turned into stone, filling the ten directions and the sky.
आवाज इतनी विशाल हो गई मानो सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्मांड पत्थर में बदल गया हो, जो दसों दिशाओं और आकाश को भर गया।
अथोदपतदादित्यपथपीवररोधकम् | रजोनिभेन भूपीठमम्बरोड्डयनोन्मुखम् || १५ ||
athodapatadādityapathapīvararodhakam | rajonibhena bhūpīṭhamambaroḍḍayanonmukham || 15 ||
Then, a dense cloud of dust arose, obscuring the path of the sun and filling the sky, making the earth seem as if it were about to be swallowed.
तब, एक घना धूल का बादल उठा, जिसने सूर्य के मार्ग को ढक दिया और आकाश को भर दिया, जिससे पृथ्वी लगने लगी मानो वह निगल ली जाने वाली हो।
गर्भवासमिवापन्नं तेनासीत्तन्महापुरम् | मूढत्वं यौवनेनेव घनतामाययौ तमः || १६ ||
garbhavāsamivāpannaṃ tenāsīttanmahāpuram | mūḍhatvaṃ yauvaneneva ghanatāmāyayau tamaḥ || 16 ||
The great city was as if it had entered the womb, and ignorance, like youth, became dense darkness.
वह महान नगर गर्भ में प्रवेश करने के समान हो गया, और मूढ़ता, युवावस्था के समान, घने अंधकार में बदल गई।
प्रययुः क्वापि दीपौघा दिवसेनेव तारकाः | आययुर्बलमालोला नैशभूतपरम्पराः || १७ ||
prayayuḥ kvāpi dīpaughā divaseneva tārakāḥ | āyayurbalamālolā naiśabhūtaparamparāḥ || 17 ||
Somewhere, the rows of lamps went out like stars during the day, and the nightly traditions of the restless army arrived.
कहीं, दीपों की पंक्तियाँ दिन के समान तारों की तरह बुझ गईं, और बेचैन सेना की रात्रि की परंपराएँ आ पहुँचीं।
ददृशुस्तन्महायुद्धं द्वे लीले सा कुमारिका | प्रस्फुटद्धृदयेनेव देवीदत्तमहादृशौ || १८ ||
dadṛśustanmahāyuddhaṃ dve līle sā kumārikā | prasphuṭadhṛdayeneva devīdattamahādṛśau || 18 ||
The two girls saw that great battle as if it were a play, with their hearts throbbing, given by the goddess, with great vision.
दोनों कुमारियाँ ने उस महान युद्ध को एक लीला के समान देखा, उनके हृदय धड़क रहे थे, देवी द्वारा दिए गए महान दृष्टि से।
प्रशेमुरथ हेतीषु प्रोद्यत्कटकटारवाः | एकार्णवपयःपूरैर्वालवा इव वह्नयः || १९ ||
praśemuratha hetīṣu prodyatkataṭakāṭārāḥ | ekārṇavapayaḥpūrairvālavā iva vahnayaḥ || 19 ||
Then, with the sound of clashing swords, they rested on their weapons, like children with vessels full of ocean water.
तब, तलवारों की झनझनाहट की आवाज के साथ, वे अपने हथियारों पर विश्राम करने लगे, मानो बच्चे समुद्र के जल से भरे पात्रों के साथ।
शनैः सेनां समाकर्षन्नाज्ञायत बलान्तरम् | विवेशपक्षप्रोड्डीनो मेरुरेकमिवार्णवम् || २० ||
śanaiḥ senāṃ samākarṣannājñāyata balāntaram | viveśapakṣaproḍḍīno merurekamivārṇavam || 20 ||
Slowly, the army was drawn in, and another force was not recognized. The winged one entered like Meru into a single ocean.
धीरे-धीरे, सेना खींची गई, और दूसरी शक्ति को पहचाना नहीं गया। पंखों वाला मेरु के समान एक समुद्र में प्रवेश किया।
अथोदभूद्गुणध्वानं चटच्चटदिति स्फुटम् | रचितांशुमयाम्भोदाश्चेरुः परपरम्पराः || २१ ||
athodabhūdguṇadhvānaṃ caṭaccaṭaditi sphuṭam | racitāṃśumayāmbhodāśceruḥ paraparamparāḥ || 21 ||
Then arose a loud sound of qualities, clearly resounding 'caṭaccaṭa' | The clouds, made of sun rays, moved in succession.
फिर गुणों की एक ऊँची ध्वनि उठी, स्पष्ट रूप से 'चटच्चट' की आवाज करती हुई | सूर्य किरणों से बने बादल क्रम से चले।
ययुरम्बरमाश्रित्य नानाहेतिविहंगमाः | प्रसस्रुरलमात्तासुमलिनाः शस्त्रदीप्तयः || २२ ||
yayurambaramāśritya nānāhetivihangamāḥ | prasasruralamāttāsumalināḥ śastradīptayaḥ || 22 ||
Taking refuge in the sky, various birds with different weapons flew away | They scattered, intoxicated with pride, dirty with the glow of weapons.
आकाश का आश्रय लेकर, विभिन्न हथियारों वाले पक्षी उड़ गए | वे घमंड में मतवाले होकर, हथियारों की चमक से गंदे होकर बिखर गए।
जज्वलुः शस्त्रसंघट्टज्वलना उल्मुकाग्निवत् | जगर्जुः शरधारौघान्वर्षन्तो वीरवारिदाः || २३ ||
jajvaluḥ śastrasaṃghaṭṭajvalanā ulmukāgnivat | jagarjuḥ śaradhāraughānvṛṣanto vīravāridāḥ || 23 ||
They blazed like the fire of a meteor from the clashing of weapons | They roared, raining down showers of arrows like heroic clouds.
वे हथियारों के टकराने से उत्पन्न अग्नि की तरह प्रज्वलित हो गए | वे वीर बादलों की तरह बाणों की वर्षा करते हुए गरजे।
विविशुः क्रकचक्रूरा वीराङ्गेषु च हेतयः | पेतुः पटपटारावं हेतिनिष्पिष्टयोऽम्बरे || २४ ||
vivviśuḥ krakacakrūrā vīrāṅgeṣu ca hetayaḥ | petuḥ paṭapaṭārāvaṃ hetiniṣpiṣṭayo'mbare || 24 ||
The sharp weapons entered the bodies of the heroes | They fell, making a 'paṭapaṭa' sound, crushed by the weapons in the sky.
तीक्ष्ण हथियार वीरों के शरीरों में घुस गए | वे आकाश में हथियारों से कुचले हुए 'पटपटा' शब्द करते हुए गिरे।
जग्मुः शमं तमांस्याशु शस्त्रकानलदीपकैः | बभूवुरखिला सेना नवनाराचरोमशाः || २५ ||
jagmuḥ śamaṃ tamāṃsyāśu śastrakānaladīpakaiḥ | babhūvurakhilā senā navanārācaromaśāḥ || 25 ||
They quickly went to rest, their darkness illuminated by the fire of weapons | The entire army became adorned with new feathers of arrows.
वे शीघ्र ही विश्राम करने लगे, हथियारों की अग्नि से उनका अंधकार दूर हो गया | सारी सेना नए बाणों के पंखों से सजी हुई दिखाई दी।
उत्तस्थुर्यमयात्रायां कबन्धनटपङ्क्तयः | जगुरुच्चै रणोद्रेकं पिशाच्यो रणदारिकाः || २६ ||
uttasthuryamayātrāyāṃ kabandhanaṭapaṅktayaḥ | jagurucchai raṇodrekaṃ piśācyo raṇadārikāḥ || 26 ||
In the procession of Yama, the rows of headless trunks arose, and the demonic women, the enemies of the battle, sang loudly the excitement of the battle.
यम की यात्रा में, सिरविहीन धड़ों की पंक्तियाँ उठीं, और राक्षसी स्त्रियाँ, युद्ध की शत्रुएँ, युद्ध के उत्साह को उच्च स्वर में गाईं।
उदगुर्दन्तसंघट्टटंकारा दन्तिनां बलात् | ऊहुः क्षपणपाषाणमहानद्यो नभस्तले || २७ ||
udagurdantasaṃghaṭṭaṭaṅkārā dantināṃ balāt | ūhuḥ kṣapaṇapāṣāṇamahānadyo nabhastale || 27 ||
The loud clashing sounds of the tusks of the elephants arose forcefully, and the great rivers of stones and arrows flowed in the sky.
हाथियों के दाँतों की ऊँची टकराहट बलपूर्वक उठी, और पत्थरों और तीरों की महान नदियाँ आकाश में बहीं।
पेतुः शवा निवातास्तसंशुष्कवनपर्णवत् | निर्ययुर्लोहिता नद्यो रणाद्रेर्मृतिवर्षिणः || २८ ||
petuḥ śavā nivātāstasaṃśuṣkavanaparṇavat | niryayurlōhitā nadyo raṇādrermṛtivarṣiṇaḥ || 28 ||
The corpses fell like dry leaves in the wind, and the rivers of blood flowed from the battlefield, raining death.
शव हवा में सूखे पत्तों की तरह गिरे, और युद्धभूमि से खून की नदियाँ मृत्यु की वर्षा की तरह बहीं।
प्रशेमुः पांसवो रक्तैस्तमांस्यायुधवह्निभिः | युद्धैकध्यानतः शब्दा भयानि मृतिनिश्चयैः || २९ ||
praśemuḥ pāṃsavo raktaistamāṃsyāyudhavahniḥ | yuddhaikadhyānataḥ śabdā bhayāni mṛtiniścayaiḥ || 29 ||
The dust particles settled with the blood and the fire of the weapons, and the sounds of the battle, focused on death, caused fear and certainty of death.
धूल के कण खून और हथियारों की आग के साथ शांत हो गए, और मृत्यु पर केंद्रित युद्ध की आवाजें भय और मृत्यु के निश्चय पैदा करती थीं।
अभवत्केवलं युद्धमपशब्दमसंभ्रमम् | अनाकुलाम्बुवाहाभं खड्गवीचिसटांकृतम् || ३० ||
abhavatkevalaṃ yuddhamapaśabdamasaṃbharam | anākulāmbuvāhābhaṃ khaḍgavīcisaṭāṃkṛtam || 30 ||
The battle became solely silent and without confusion, with the water carriers unperturbed and adorned with the waves of swords.
युद्ध पूरी तरह से शांत और असंभ्रमित हो गया, पानी के वाहक अव्यवस्थित नहीं थे और तलवारों की लहरों से सजे हुए थे।
खदखदरवसंवहच्छरोघं टकटकितारवसंपतद्भुशुण्डि झणझणरवसंमिलन्महास्त्रं तिमितिमिवद्रणमास दुस्तरं तत् || ३१ ||
khadakhadaravasaṃvahaccharoghaṃ ṭakaṭakitāravasaṃpatadbhushuṇḍi jhaṇajhaṇaravasaṃmilanmahāstraṃ timitimivadraṇamāsa dustaraṃ tat || 31 ||
The sound of clattering and the roar of the chariot, the clanging of the bowstring and the clashing of the weapons, the loud noise of the great weapon, and the sound of the battlefield made it difficult to cross.
रथ की खड़खड़ाहट और गर्जना, धनुष की टंकार और हथियारों की झनझनाहट, महान अस्त्र की गर्जना और युद्धभूमि की गड़गड़ाहट से पार पाना कठिन था।
