śrīrāma uvācabhagavanyuddhametanme samāsena manāgvadaśrutirāhlādyate śroturyasmādetābhiruktimiḥ || 1 ||

English

Shri Rama said: O Lord, please tell me in brief about this battle. The listener is delighted by hearing this story, because of these words.

श्री राम ने कहा: हे भगवन्, कृपया मुझे इस युद्ध के बारे में संक्षेप में बताएं। श्रोता इस कथा को सुनकर आनंदित होता है, क्योंकि इन शब्दों से कहा गया है।

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाचाथ तत्रैव ते देव्यौ संग्रामं तमवेक्षितुम्विमाने कल्पिते कान्ते रुद्धे रुरुहतुः स्थिरे || २ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvācaatha tatraiva te devyau saṃgrāmaṃ tamavekṣitumvimāne kalpite kānte ruddhe ruruhatuḥ sthire || 2 ||

English

Shri Vasistha said: Then, those two goddesses, to see that battle, in a beautifully decorated chariot, which was steady and closed, they ascended.

English

Like the waves of the ocean of dissolution at the time of creation and fear, the warrior's son, like a stone, struck the warrior's chest with a hammer.

English

Then, suddenly, the clash of weapons of the two armies, like the roaring ocean of dissolution, flashing like lightning and fire.

The sound of 'dhagad dhagad' filled the air as the throats were severed, and blood spurted out. The arms and heads were cut off, and the sky was filled with the pieces of swords.

The one whose body is covered with the blood of the elephants, whose teeth are grinding, and whose roar is fierce and terrifying.

English

The one whose voice is harsh like the sound of a heavy mace striking, whose head is adorned with a beautiful lotus garland, and whose clothes are covered with lotus flowers.

The one whose arms are stretched out like the king of serpents in the sky, whose body is covered with dust like a cloud, and who is engaged in a fierce battle with the enemy, cutting off their heads.

The one whose eyes, ears, nose, lips, and neck are scratched by the nails, whose weapons are broken, and who is a great wrestler, roaring with laughter and obtaining the earth.

English

The path of the river turned red with the blood of the warriors who fell in battle, their bodies pierced by arrows and their chariots broken.

The dust raised by the battle created a veil, and the weapons clashed loudly. The dense army, united in turmoil, roared like the ocean.

English

The warriors, hidden behind trees, horses, and hillocks, wielded their weapons—wheels, spears, arrows, and maces. The arrows pierced the armor, and the warriors clashed fiercely.

English

The chariot wheels are broken and the horses, elephants, and men are cut down. The arrows are falling like rain, and the elephants are falling down.

The white umbrella and the sword are shining brightly. The army is in turmoil, and the disturbance is visible.

The one who is bound by the noose of the net, with eyes closed, restrained by the elephant, marked by the goad, situated in the number, and obstructed by the brave.

English

The one who is protected from the fall of the axe, restrained by the noose, knowledgeable about the distinction of the enemy, and lamenting the enemy of the brave.

जो कुल्हाड़ी के गिरने से बचाया गया है, फंदे से रोका गया है, शत्रु के भेद को जानता है, और वीर के शत्रु के लिए शोक करता है।
