śrīdevyuvāca | vittaveṣavayḥkarmavidyāvibhavaceṣṭitaiḥ | vasiṣṭhasyaiva sadṛśo natu vāsiṣṭhaceṣṭitaḥ || 1 ||
Shridevi said: By wealth, appearance, age, actions, knowledge, splendor, and endeavors, he was equal to Vasistha, but not by the endeavors of Vasistha.
श्रीदेवी ने कहा: धन, वेष, आयु, कर्म, विद्या, विभव और चेष्टा से वह वसिष्ठ के समान था, परन्तु वसिष्ठ की चेष्टा से नहीं।
वसिष्ठ इति नाम्नासौ तस्याभूदिन्दुसुन्दरी | नाम्ना त्वरुन्धती भार्या भूमिव्योमन्यरुन्धती || २ ||
vasiṣṭha iti nāmnāsau tasyābhūdindusundarī | nāmnā tvārundhatī bhāryā bhūmivyomanyarundhatī || 2 ||
He was known by the name Vasistha, and his wife was named Arunthati, who was as beautiful as the moon. She was known as Arunthati, the wife who was the support of the earth and the sky.
उसका नाम वसिष्ठ था, और उसकी पत्नी का नाम अरुन्धती था, जो चन्द्रमा के समान सुन्दर थी। वह अरुन्धती के नाम से जानी जाती थी, जो पृथ्वी और आकाश की सहायक थी।
वित्तवेषवयःकर्मविद्याविभवचेष्टितैः | समैव साप्यरुन्धत्या नतु चेतनसत्तया || ३ ||
vittaveṣavayḥkarmavidyāvibhavaceṣṭitaiḥ | samaiva sāpyarundhatyā natu cetanasattayā || 3 ||
By wealth, appearance, age, actions, knowledge, splendor, and endeavors, she was equal to Arunthati, but not by spiritual awareness.
धन, वेष, आयु, कर्म, विद्या, विभव और चेष्टा से वह अरुन्धती के समान थी, परन्तु आध्यात्मिक चेतना से नहीं।
अकृत्रिमप्रेमरसा विलासालसगामिनी | सास्य संसारसर्वस्वमासीत्कुमुदहासिनी || ४ ||
akṛtrimapremarasā vilāsālasagāminī | sāsya saṃsārasarvasvamāsītkumudahāsinī || 4 ||
She, with natural love and graceful gait, was the essence of his world, like a smiling lotus.
वह, जिसके प्रेम और चाल में स्वाभाविक सौन्दर्य था, उसके संसार की सार्वभौमिक थी, जैसे मुस्कुराता हुआ कमल।
स विप्रस्तस्य शैलस्य सानौ सरलशाद्वले | कदाचिदुपविष्टः सन्ददर्शाधो महीपतिम् || ५ ||
sa viprastasya śailasya sānau saralaśādvala | kadācidupaviṣṭaḥ sandadarśādho mahīpatim || 5 ||
That Brahmin, sitting on the slope of that mountain with its straight pine trees, once saw the king below.
वह ब्राह्मण, उस पर्वत की ढलान पर बैठा था, जिसके सीधे देवदार के पेड़ थे, एक बार नीचे राजा को देखा।
समग्रपरिवारेण यान्तमाखेटकेच्छया महता सैन्यघोषेण मेरोरिव बिभित्सया || ६ ||
samagraparivāreṇa yāntamākheṭakecchayā mahatā sainyaghoṣeṇa meroriva bibhitsayā || 6 ||
With the entire family, going out for hunting, with a great sound of the army, as if desiring to conquer Meru.
सम्पूर्ण परिवार के साथ, शिकार करने के लिए निकलते हुए, सेना के बड़े शोर के साथ, जैसे मेरु पर विजय प्राप्त करने की इच्छा हो।
चामरैः कीर्णचन्द्रांशुपताकाभिर्लतावनम् कुर्वाणं खं सितच्छत्रमण्डलै रूप्यकुट्टिमम् || ७ ||
cāmaraiḥ kīrṇacandrāṃśupatākābhirlatāvanam kurvāṇaṃ khaṃ sitacchatramaṇḍalai rūpyakuṭṭimam || 7 ||
With chowries (fly-whisks) scattering moonlight-like flags, making the sky a garden of creepers, with white umbrellas and silver canopies.
चंवरों से चन्द्रमा की किरणों की तरह झंडियाँ फैलाते हुए, आकाश को लताओं का उद्यान बनाते हुए, सफेद छतरियों और चांदी के छतरियों से।
अश्वपादूस्वनत्क्ष्माजरेणुपूरावृताम्बरम् हास्तिकोत्तम्भितकरवाताट्टालकगोपितम् || ८ ||
aśvapādūsvanatkṣmājareṇupūrāvṛtāmbaram hāstikottambhitakaravātāṭṭālakagopitam || 8 ||
With the sound of horses' hooves and the dust raised by them covering the sky, protected by the wind created by the elephants' trunks and the sound of bells.
घोड़ों के खुरों की आवाज और उनके द्वारा उठाई गई धूल से आकाश ढका हुआ, हाथियों के सूंडों से उत्पन्न हवा और घंटियों की आवाज से सुरक्षित।
महाकलकलावर्तद्रवद्दिग्भूतमण्डलम् कचत्काञ्चनमाणिक्यहारकेयूरमण्डलम् || ९ ||
mahākalakalāvartadravaddigbhūtamaṇḍalam kacatkāñcanamāṇikyahārakeyūramanḍalam || 9 ||
With the great sound of the drums echoing in all directions, and with the tinkling of golden and jewel-studded ornaments.
बड़े ड्रम की आवाज सभी दिशाओं में गूंजती हुई, और सोने और रत्नों से जड़े आभूषणों की झंकार के साथ।
तमालोक्य महीपालमिदं चिन्तितवानसौ अहो नु रम्या नृपता सर्वसौभाग्यभासिता || १० ||
tamālokya mahīpālamidaṃ cintitavānasaḥ aho nu ramyā nṛpatā sarvasaubhāgyabhāsitā || 10 ||
Seeing the king, he thought, 'Ah, how charming is this king, radiating all auspiciousness.'
राजा को देखकर, उसने सोचा, 'अहो, यह राजा कितना मनोहर है, सभी शुभ गुणों से चमकता हुआ।'
पदातिरथहस्त्यश्वपताकाच्छत्रचामरैः | कदा स्यां दशदिक्कुञ्जपूरकोऽहं महीपतिः || ११ ||
padātirathahastyāśvapatākācchatracāmaraiḥ | kadā syāṃ daśadikkunjapūrako'haṃ mahīpatiḥ || 11 ||
When will I, with infantry, chariots, elephants, horses, flags, umbrellas, and fly-whisks, become the king who fills the ten directions?
मैं पैदल सेना, रथ, हाथी, घोड़े, ध्वज, छत्र और चंवर के साथ दसों दिशाओं को भरने वाला राजा कब बनूँगा?
कदा मे वायवः कुन्दमकरन्दसुगन्धयः | पास्यन्त्यन्तःपुरस्त्रीणां सुरतश्रमसीकरान् || १२ ||
kadā me vāyavaḥ kundamakarandasugandhayaḥ | pāsyantyantaḥpurastrīṇāṃ surataśramasīkarān || 12 ||
When will the winds, fragrant with the scent of jasmine blossoms, drink the sweat drops of the women in the inner chambers during lovemaking?
जब जामुन फूलों की सुगंध से युक्त वायुएँ अंतःपुर की स्त्रियों के प्रेम क्रीड़ा के समय के पसीने की बूँदों को पी लेंगी?
कर्पूरेण पुरन्ध्रीणां पूर्णेन यशसा दिशाम् | इन्दूदयावदातानि कदा कुर्यां मुखान्यहम् || १३ ||
karpūreṇa purandhrīṇāṃ pūrṇena yaśasā diśām | indūdayāvadātāni kadā kuryāṃ mukhānyaham || 13 ||
When will I make the faces of the city women, full of fame in all directions, shine like the rising moon with camphor?
मैं कब नगर की स्त्रियों के चेहरे, जो सभी दिशाओं में यश से भरे हैं, कर्पूर से चंद्रमा की तरह चमकाऊँगा?
इत्थं ततःप्रभृत्येष विप्रः संकल्पवानभूत् | स्वधर्मनिरतो नित्यं यावज्जीवमतन्द्रितः || १४ ||
itthaṃ tataḥprabhṛtyeṣa vipraḥ saṃkalpavānabhūt | svadharmanirato nityaṃ yāvajjīvamatandritaḥ || 14 ||
Thus, from that time onwards, this Brahmin became resolved and was always dedicated to his own duties, diligently throughout his life.
इस प्रकार, उस समय से आगे, यह ब्राह्मण संकल्पवान हो गया और अपने धर्म में निरंतर लगा रहा, जीवन भर उत्साहपूर्वक।
हिमाशनिरिवाम्भोजं जर्जरीकर्तुमादृता | जले जर्जरितेवाथ जरा द्विजमुपाययौ || १५ ||
himāśanirivāmbhojaṃ jarjarīkartumādṛtā | jale jarjaritevātha jarā dvijamupāyayau || 15 ||
Just as the winter frost makes the lotus withered, old age, which makes everything withered, approached the Brahmin.
जैसे सर्दी की ठंड कमल को सूखा कर देती है, वैसे ही जरा, जो सब कुछ को सूखा कर देती है, ब्राह्मण के पास आई।
आसन्नमरणस्याथ भार्या म्लानिमुपाययौ| तस्य शाम्यति पुष्पर्तौ लतेव ग्रीष्मभीतितः || १६ ||
āsannamaraṇasyātha bhāryā mlānimupāyayau| tasya śāmyati puṣpartau lateva grīṣmabhītitḥ || 16 ||
When the husband was on the verge of death, his wife became despondent. She withered like a creeper whose flowers fade due to the fear of summer.
जब पति मृत्यु के कगार पर था, तब उसकी पत्नी उदास हो गई| वह ऐसे मुरझा गई जैसे गर्मी के डर से फूलों वाली लता मुरझा जाती है।
मामथाराधितवती सा ततस्त्वमिवाङ्गना| अमरत्वं सुदुष्प्रापं बुद्ध्वेमं सावृणोद्वरम् || १७ ||
māmathārādhitavatī sā tatastvamivāṅganā| amaratvaṃ suduṣprāpaṃ buddhvemaṃ sāvṛṇodvaram || 17 ||
She, who had worshipped me, then became like you, O woman. Realizing that immortality is very difficult to attain, she chose this boon.
वह, जिसने मेरी आराधना की थी, फिर तुम्हारी तरह हो गई, हे स्त्री| अमरत्व को बहुत दुर्लभ समझकर, उसने इस वरदान को चुना।
देवि स्वमण्डपादेव जीवो भर्तुर्मृतस्य मे| मायासीदित्यतस्तस्याः स एवाङ्गीकृतो मया || १८ ||
devi svamaṇḍapādeva jīvo bharturmṛtasya me| māyāsīdityatastasyāḥ sa evāṅgīkṛto mayā || 18 ||
O Goddess, from my own abode, the life of my dead husband appeared as an illusion. Therefore, I accepted it as such.
हे देवी, मेरे अपने मण्डप से, मेरे मृत पति का जीवन माया के रूप में प्रकट हुआ| इसलिए, मैंने उसे ऐसा ही स्वीकार किया।
अथ कालवशाद्विप्रः स पञ्चत्वमुपाययौ| तस्मिन्नेव गृहाकाशे जीवाकाशतया स्थितः || १९ ||
atha kālavashādvipraḥ sa pañcatvamupāyayau| tasminneva gṛhākāśe jīvākāśatayā sthitaḥ || 19 ||
Then, due to the influence of time, the Brahmin attained the state of the five elements. He remained in the same household space as the life force.
फिर, समय के प्रभाव से, ब्राह्मण पंचतत्व की अवस्था को प्राप्त हुआ| वह जीवन शक्ति के रूप में उसी घर के अंतरिक्ष में रहा।
संपन्नः प्राक्तनानल्पसंकल्पवशतः स्वयम्| आकाशवपुरेवैष पतिः परमशक्तिमान् || २० ||
saṃpannaḥ prāktanānalpasankalpavaśataḥ svayam| ākāśavapurevaiṣa patiḥ paramaśaktimān || 20 ||
He himself, endowed with the highest power, became complete due to his previous minor intentions. This very husband, in the form of space, is supremely powerful.
वह स्वयं, उच्चतम शक्ति से संपन्न, अपने पूर्व छोटे संकल्पों के कारण पूर्ण हो गया| यही पति, आकाश के रूप में, परम शक्तिशाली है।
प्रभावजितभूपीठः प्रतापाक्रान्तविष्टपः | कृपापालितपातालस्त्रिलोकविजयी नृपः || २१ ||
prabhāvajitabhūpīṭhaḥ pratāpākrāntaviṣṭapaḥ | kṛpāpālitapātālastrilokavijayī nṛpaḥ || 21 ||
The king who has conquered the earth by his influence, whose palace is overwhelmed by his splendor, who protects the underworld with compassion, and who has conquered the three worlds.
जिस राजा ने अपने प्रभाव से पृथ्वी को जीत लिया है, जिसका महल उसके प्रताप से भरा हुआ है, जो दया से पाताल की रक्षा करता है, और जिसने तीनों लोकों को जीत लिया है।
कल्पाग्निररिवृक्षाणां स्त्रीणां मकरकेतनः | मेरुर्विषयवायूनां साध्वब्जानां दिवाकरः || २२ ||
kalpāgnirarivṛkṣāṇāṃ strīṇāṃ makaraketanaḥ | merurviṣayavāyūnāṃ sādhvabjānāṃ divākaraḥ || 22 ||
He is like the fire of destruction for the enemies, a crocodile for women, Mount Meru for the winds of the regions, and the sun for the lotuses of good women.
वह शत्रुओं के लिए प्रलय की अग्नि के समान है, स्त्रियों के लिए मगरमच्छ के समान है, दिशाओं की हवाओं के लिए मेरु पर्वत के समान है, और सती स्त्रियों के कमलों के लिए सूर्य के समान है।
आदर्शः सर्वशास्त्राणामर्थिनां कल्पपादपः | पादपीठं द्विजाग्र्याणां राकाधर्मामृतत्विषः || २३ ||
ādarśaḥ sarvaśāstrāṇāmarthināṃ kalpapādapaḥ | pādapīṭhaṃ dvijāgryāṇāṃ rākādharmāmṛtatviṣaḥ || 23 ||
He is a mirror for all scriptures, a wish-fulfilling tree for seekers, a throne for the foremost Brahmins, and the nectar of the moon's rays.
वह सभी शास्त्रों का दर्पण है, साधकों के लिए कल्पवृक्ष है, अग्रगण्य ब्राह्मणों के लिए सिंहासन है, और चन्द्रमा की किरणों का अमृत है।
स्वगृहाभ्यन्तराकाशे चित्ताकाशमयात्मनि | तस्मिन्द्विजे शवीभूते भूताकाशशरीरिणि || २४ ||
svagṛhābhyantarākāśe cittākāśamayātmani | tasmindvije śavībhūte bhūtākāśaśarīriṇi || 24 ||
In the inner space of his own home, in the self that is made of the sky of consciousness, in that Brahmin who has become a corpse, in the body made of the sky of elements.
अपने घर के अंदर के आकाश में, चेतना के आकाश से बने आत्मा में, उस ब्राह्मण में जो शव बन गया है, तत्वों के आकाश से बने शरीर में।
सा तस्य ब्राह्मणी भार्या शोकेनात्यन्तकर्शिता | शुष्केव माषशिम्बीका हृदयेन द्विधाभवत् || २५ ||
sā tasya brāhmaṇī bhāryā śokenātyantakarśitā | śuṣkeva māṣaśimbīkā hṛdayena dvidadhābhavat || 25 ||
That Brahmin's wife, extremely emaciated by grief, became like a dried-up bean pod, her heart split in two.
उस ब्राह्मण की पत्नी, शोक से अत्यंत दुर्बल हो गई, एक सूखी मटर की फली के समान हो गई, उसका हृदय दो टुकड़ों में बंट गया।
भर्त्रा सह शवीभूता देहमुत्सृज्य दूरतः| आतिवाहिकदेहेन भर्तारं समुपाययौ || २६ ||
bhartāra saha śavībhūtā dehamutsṛjya dūrataḥ| ātivāhikadehena bhartāraṃ samupāyayau || 26 ||
Having become a corpse with her husband, leaving her body far away, she approached her husband with her subtle body.
अपने पति के साथ शव बनकर, दूर अपने शरीर को छोड़कर, वह अपने सूक्ष्म शरीर से अपने पति के पास गई।
नदीनिखातमिव तं भर्तारमनुसृत्य सा| आजगाम विशोकत्वं सा वासन्तीव मञ्जरी || २७ ||
nadīnikhātamiva taṃ bhartāramanusṛtya sā| ājagāma viśokatvaṃ sā vāsantīva mañjarī || 27 ||
Following her husband like a river flowing, she attained a state of bliss, like a spring blossom.
अपने पति का अनुसरण करते हुए जैसे नदी बहती है, वह आनंद की स्थिति को प्राप्त हुई, जैसे वसंत का फूल।
तत्रास्य विप्रस्य गृहाणि सन्ति भूस्थावरादीनि धनानि सन्ति| अद्याष्टमं वासरमाप्तमृत्योर्जीवो गिरिग्रामककन्दरस्थः || २८ ||
tatrasya viprasya gṛhāṇi santi bhūsthāvarādīni dhanāni santi| adyāṣṭamaṃ vāsaramāptamṛtyorjīvo girigrāmakakandarasthaḥ || 28 ||
There, the houses and immovable wealth of that Brahmin exist. Today is the eighth day since his death, and he is alive in the cave of the mountain village.
वहाँ, उस ब्राह्मण के घर और अचल संपत्ति है। आज उसकी मृत्यु का आठवाँ दिन है, और वह पहाड़ी गाँव की गुफा में जीवित है।
