श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच श्रृणु राम कथं तत्र महाकाशे तथा स्थितः देहे भ्रान्तिं तु तां त्यक्त्वा स रुद्रोऽप्युपशाम्यति || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca śṛṇu rāma kathaṃ tatra mahākāśe tathā sthitaḥ dehe bhrāntiṃ tu tāṃ tyaktvā sa rudro'pyupaśāmyati || 1 ||

English

Vasishtha said: Listen, Rama, how Rudra, having abandoned the delusion of the body, remains calm in the great void.

हिन्दी

वसिष्ठ ने कहा: सुनो राम, कैसे रुद्र, शरीर के भ्रम को त्यागकर, महान शून्य में शान्त रहता है।

स रुद्रस्तौ जगत्खण्डौ तदा चित्र इवार्पिताः निस्पन्दा एव तत्रासन्प्रेक्षमाणे स्थिते मयि || २ ||

sa rudrastau jagatkhaṇḍau tadā citra ivārpitāḥ nispandā eva tatrāsanprekṣamāṇe sthite mayi || 2 ||

English

That Rudra, having placed the two fragments of the universe as if in a painting, remained motionless there, while I was watching.

हिन्दी

वह रुद्र, दो ब्रह्माण्ड के टुकड़ों को चित्र की तरह रखकर, मेरे देखते-देखते वहाँ निश्चल रहा।

ततो मुहूर्तमात्रेण स रुद्रस्तौ नभोन्तरे खण्डौ विलोकयामास दृशार्केणेव रोदसी || ३ ||

tato muhūrtamātreṇa sa rudrastau nabhontare khaṇḍau vilokayāmāsa dṛśārkeṇeva rodasī || 3 ||

English

Then, in a moment, Rudra saw those two fragments in the sky, as if with the eyes of the sun.

हिन्दी

तब, एक पल में, रुद्र ने आकाश में उन दो टुकड़ों को देखा, मानो सूर्य की आँखों से।

ततो निमेषमात्रेण घोणाश्वासेन खण्डकौ तौ समानीय चिक्षेप पातालान्तरिवानने || ४ ||

tato nimeṣamātreṇa ghoṇāśvāsena khaṇḍakau tau samānīya cikṣepa pātālāntarivānane || 4 ||

English

Then, in the blink of an eye, with a deep breath, he brought those two fragments together and threw them into the netherworld, as if into a mouth.

हिन्दी

तब, एक पल में, एक गहरी साँस लेकर, उसने उन दो टुकड़ों को एक साथ लाकर पाताल में फेंक दिया, मानो किसी मुँह में।

अतिष्ठदेक एवासावेकं खे खमिवाखिले भुक्तब्रह्माण्डखण्डोग्रमण्डमण्डकमण्डलः || ५ ||

atiṣṭhadeka evāsāvekaṃ khe khamivākhile bhuktabrahmāṇḍakhaṇḍogramṇḍamaṇḍakamaṇḍalaḥ || 5 ||

English

He remained alone in the sky, as if he were the entire sky, having consumed the fierce fragments of the universe.

हिन्दी

वह आकाश में अकेला रहा, मानो वह सम्पूर्ण आकाश हो, ब्रह्माण्ड के भयानक टुकड़ों को ग्रहण करके।

ततो मुहूर्तमात्रेण लघुः सोऽभ्रमिवाभवत् । ततोऽभवद्यष्टिसमस्ततः प्रादेशमात्रकः ॥ || ६ ||

tato muhūrtamātreṇa laghuḥ so'bhramivābhavat | tato'bhavadyaṣṭisamastataḥ prādeśamātrakaḥ || 6 ||

English

Then, in a moment, he became as light as a cloud. Then he became as small as a stick, and then he became the size of a span.

हिन्दी

तब, एक पल में, वह एक बादल की तरह हलका हो गया। फिर वह एक लकड़ी की तरह छोटा हो गया, और फिर वह एक हाथ की लंबाई के बराबर हो गया।

ततः काचकणाकारो मया दृष्टः स तादृशः । ततः सोऽणूभवन्दृष्टो मया स्वाद्दिव्यदृष्टिना ॥ || ७ ||

tataḥ kācakaṇākāro mayā dṛṣṭaḥ sa tādṛśaḥ | tataḥ so'ṇūbhavandṛṣṭo mayā svāddivyadṛṣṭinā || 7 ||

English

Then, he was seen by me as small as a glass bead. Then, he was seen by me with divine vision as an atom.

हिन्दी

तब, वह मुझे एक कांच की मनका के आकार का दिखाई दिया। फिर, वह मुझे दिव्य दृष्टि से एक अणु के रूप में दिखाई दिया।

परमाणुरथो भूत्वा ततस्त्वन्तर्द्धिमाययौ । इत्यसौ शममायातः शरदम्बुदखण्डवत् ॥ || ८ ||

paramāṇuratho bhūtvā tatastvantarddhimāyayau | ityasau śamamāyātaḥ śaradambudakhaṇḍavat || 8 ||

English

Then, having become an atom, he disappeared. Thus, he attained peace like a piece of an autumn cloud.

हिन्दी

तब, एक अणु बनकर, वह अंतर्धान हो गया। इस प्रकार, वह शांति प्राप्त कर ली, जैसे एक शरद ऋतु का बादल का टुकड़ा।

तादृशोऽपि महारम्भः पुरः पश्यत एव मे । इति सावरणे तेन ते ब्रह्माण्डकवाटके ॥ || ९ ||

tādṛśo'pi mahārambhaḥ puraḥ paśyata eva me | iti sāvaraṇe tena te brahmāṇḍakavāṭake || 9 ||

English

Even such a great endeavor was seen by me. Thus, with that protection, those doors of the universe were closed.

हिन्दी

इस तरह का एक महान उद्यम मुझे दिखाई दिया। इस प्रकार, उस सुरक्षा के साथ, ब्रह्माण्ड के द्वार बंद हो गए।

विनिगीर्णे क्षुधार्तेन हरिणेनेव पर्णके । अथाभून्निर्मलं व्योम शान्तं ब्रह्मैव केवलम् ॥ || १० ||

vinigīrṇe kṣudhārtena hariṇeneva parṇake | athābhūnnirmalaṃ vyoma śāntaṃ brahmaiva kevalam || 10 ||

English

When the hungry deer has consumed the leaves, then the sky becomes pure and calm, which is the absolute Brahman.

हिन्दी

जब भूखे हिरण ने पत्ते खा लिए, तब आकाश शुद्ध और शांत हो गया, जो केवल ब्रह्म है।

अनादिमध्यपर्यन्तं संविदाकाशमात्रकम् | इत्यहं दृष्टवांस्तत्र कल्पान्तमुरुविभ्रमम् || ११ ||

anādimadhyaparyantaṃ saṃvidākāśamātrakam | ityahaṃ dṛṣṭavāṃstatra kalpāntamuruvibhramam || 11 ||

English

I saw there the great delusion of the end of the world, which is only the sky of consciousness, without beginning, middle, or end.

हिन्दी

मैंने वहाँ उस महान भ्रम को देखा जो अनादि, मध्य और अन्त से रहित चेतना का आकाश है।

दर्पणप्रतिबिम्बाभं शिलाशकलकोटरे | अथ तामङ्गनां स्मृत्वा तां शिलां तच्च विभ्रमम् || १२ ||

darpaṇapratibimbābhaṃ śilāśakalakoṭare | atha tāmaṅganāṃ smṛtvā tāṃ śilāṃ tacca vibhramam || 12 ||

English

Like a reflection in a mirror, in the hollow of a stone fragment, then remembering that woman, I saw that stone and that delusion.

हिन्दी

दर्पण में प्रतिबिम्ब की तरह, पत्थर के टुकड़े के खोखले में, फिर उस स्त्री को याद करके, मैंने उस पत्थर और उस भ्रम को देखा।

राजद्वारगतो ग्राम्य इवाहं विस्मयं गतः | तामालोकितवान्भूयः कलूधौतशिलामहम् || १३ ||

rājadvāragato grāmya ivāhaṃ vismayaṃ gataḥ | tāmālokitavānbhūyaḥ kalūdhautaśilāmham || 13 ||

English

Like a villager who has come to the royal gate, I was amazed. I looked at that stone again, washed by the river.

हिन्दी

जैसे एक ग्रामीण जो राजद्वार पर आया है, मैं आश्चर्यचकित हो गया। मैंने उस नदी से धुले हुए पत्थर को फिर से देखा।

यावत्सर्वत्र सन्त्यत्र सर्गाः काल्या इवाङ्गके | बुद्धिनेत्रेण दृश्यन्ते दिव्याक्ष्णा वा न ते यथा || १४ ||

yāvatsarvatra santyatra sargāḥ kālyā ivāṅgake | buddhinetreṇa dṛśyante divyākṣṇā vā na te yathā || 14 ||

English

As long as all creations are present everywhere, like limbs of Kali, they are seen by the eye of intellect or by divine eyes, but not as they truly are.

हिन्दी

जब तक सभी सृष्टियाँ हर जगह उपस्थित हैं, जैसे काली के अंग, वे बुद्धि की आँखों से या दिव्य आँखों से देखी जाती हैं, लेकिन वे वास्तव में ऐसी नहीं हैं।

सर्वत्र सर्वदा सर्वं यदस्त्येव तदा तथा | दूरवत्प्रेक्ष्यते मांसदृशा यद्येव सा शिला || १५ ||

sarvatra sarvadā sarvaṃ yadastyeva tadā tathā | dūravatprekṣyate māṃsadṛśā yadyeva sā śilā || 15 ||

English

Everywhere, always, everything that exists is just as it is. If it is seen from a distance with fleshy eyes, then it is just that stone.

हिन्दी

हर जगह, हमेशा, जो कुछ भी है वह ठीक वैसा ही है। यदि वह दूर से मांसल आँखों से देखा जाता है, तो वह बस वही पत्थर है।

दृश्यते तच्छिलैवैका न तु सर्गादि किंचन | सावस्थिता शिलैवैकरूपा निविडमण्डला || १६ ||

dṛśyate tacchilaivaiakā na tu sargādi kiñcana | sāvasthitā śilaivaiakarūpā niviḍamaṇḍalā || 16 ||

English

It is seen that there is only one stone, not any creation or anything else. It is situated in the form of a single stone, a dense circle.

हिन्दी

यह देखा जाता है कि वहाँ एक ही शिला है, कोई सृष्टि या कुछ और नहीं। वह एक ही रूप में स्थित है, एक घना मण्डल।

कलधौतमयी स्फारा संध्याजलदसुन्दरी | ततोऽहं विस्मयाविष्टः प्रविचारितवान्पुनः || १७ ||

kaladhautamayī sphārā sandhyājaladasundarī | tato'haṃ vismayāviṣṭaḥ pravicāritavānpunaḥ || 17 ||

English

The sphere is made of polished metal, beautiful like the evening clouds. Then I, filled with wonder, investigated again.

हिन्दी

यह गोला चमकदार धातु से बना है, संध्या के बादलों की तरह सुंदर। फिर मैं, आश्चर्य से भरा हुआ, फिर से जांच करने लगा।

शिलायामपरं भागं तथैव परया दृशा | यावत्तमपि पश्यामि जगदारम्भमन्थरम् || १८ ||

śilāyāmaparaṃ bhāgaṃ tathaiva parayā dṛśā | yāvattamapi paśyāmi jagadārambhamantharam || 18 ||

English

In another part of the stone, with the same intense gaze, I see the beginning of the world inside it.

शिला के दूसरे भाग में, उसी तीव्र दृष्टि से, मैं उसके अंदर संसार की शुरुआत देखता हूँ।

तथैव सुषिराकार इव नानार्थसुन्दरम् | पुनरन्यं तथैवाहं प्रदेशं परिदृष्टवान् || १९ ||

tathaiva suṣirākāra iva nānārthasundaram | punaranyaṃ tathaivāhaṃ pradeśaṃ paridṛṣṭavān || 19 ||

English

Similarly, in another form, beautiful in various ways, I saw another region.

सर्गसंरम्भवलितं यावत्तमपि तादृशम् | यं यं प्रदेशं पश्यामि शिलायास्तत्र तत्र वै || २० ||

sargasaṃrambhavalitaṃ yāvattamapi tādṛśam | yaṃ yaṃ pradeśaṃ paśyāmi śilāyāstatra tatra vai || 20 ||

English

As far as I see, every region of the stone is filled with the vigor of creation. Wherever I look, I see the same.

हिन्दी

जितना भी मैं देखता हूँ, शिला का हर क्षेत्र सृष्टि की ऊर्जा से भरा हुआ है। जहाँ भी मैं देखता हूँ, वही दिखाई देता है।

जगत्पश्यामि विमलमादर्श इव बिम्बितम् | मयातिकौतुकेनाथ सर्वास्तस्य गिरेः शिलाः || २१ ||

jagatpaśyāmi vimalamādarśa iva bimbītam | mayātikautukenātha sarvāstasya gireḥ śilāḥ || 21 ||

English

I see the world reflected in a clear mirror | With great curiosity, all the stones of that mountain

हिन्दी

मैं साफ दर्पण में प्रतिबिंबित होने वाले जगत को देखता हूँ | बड़े उत्सुकता से, उस पर्वत के सभी पत्थर

अन्विष्टा भूतिभागाश्च तृणगुल्मादयस्तथा | यावत्सर्वत्र तत्तादृग्जगदस्ति यथास्थितम् || २२ ||

anviṣṭā bhūtibhāgāśca tṛṇagulmādayastathā | yāvatsarvatra tattādṛgjagadasti yathāsthitam || 22 ||

English

Sought after are the parts of prosperity and grass, bushes, etc. | As long as the world exists in that manner everywhere

बुद्ध्यैव दृश्यते नाक्ष्णा परया विविधाकृति | क्वचित्प्रथमसर्गात्म जायमानप्रजापति || २३ ||

It is perceived by the intellect, not by the eyes, with various forms | Sometimes the first creation, the lord of creatures being born

Imagined stars, moon, sun, day, night, seasons, and years | Sometimes the assembly of people endowed with the earth's throne

English

Sometimes it is like the good people of the Satya Yuga, sometimes it is like the bad people of the Kali Yuga.

Sometimes it is like the difficult battle with the demons in the city's formation.

English

Sometimes it is like the vast expanse of mountains and forests, sometimes it is like the incomplete creation of the lotus-born.

English

Sometimes it is like humans on earth freed from old age and death, sometimes it is like the moonless night.

anirmatitadugdhābdhimṛtyumatsurapūritam| asaṃjātāmṛtāśvebhavaidyagokamalāviṣam || 30 ||

English

The ocean of milk is not churned, filled with death and envy, without the nectar of immortality, the poison of the physician's cow.

दुग्ध सागर अमथित है, मृत्यु और ईर्ष्या से भरा है, अमृत के बिना, वैद्य की गाय का विष है।

शुक्रामरमहाविद्यानाशनोत्कसुरव्रजम् | क्वचित्किंचिच्च गर्भाङ्गकर्तनोत्कसुरेश्वरम् || ३१ ||

śukrāmaramahāvidyānāśanotkasuravrajam | kvacitkiñcicca garbhāṅgakartanotkasureśvaram || 31 ||

English

The great knowledge that destroys the demon army, the abode of the powerful demons, sometimes the lord of the demons who cuts the limbs of the embryo.

जो महान ज्ञान असुर सेना को नष्ट करता है, शक्तिशाली असुरों का निवास, कभी-कभी गर्भावस्था के अंगों को काटने वाले असुरेश्वर का निवास।

अपरिम्लानधर्मत्वात्स्वप्रकाशाखिलव्रजम् | क्वचित्किंचिच्च पूर्वान्यसंनिवेशक्रमस्थिति || ३२ ||

aparimlānadharmatvātsvaprakāśākhilavrajam | kvacitkiñcicca pūrvānyasaṃniveśakramasthiti || 32 ||

English

Due to the unblemished nature of dharma, the self-illuminating entire abode, sometimes the previous arrangement of the settlement.

धर्म के अकलुषित स्वभाव के कारण, स्वयं प्रकाशित सम्पूर्ण निवास, कभी-कभी पूर्व के बसाव की व्यवस्था।

apūrvavedaśāstrārthasamācāravicāraṇam | kvacitkiñcinna kalpāntasaṃkṣobhamiva saṃsthitam || 33 ||

The unprecedented meaning of the Vedas and scriptures, the practice of conduct and deliberation, sometimes not like the disturbance at the end of the kalpa.

English

Sometimes the abode of the gods plundered by the hordes of demons, sometimes the garden of the gods where the Gandharvas and Kinnaras sing.

Sometimes the friendship between the gods and demons is initiated, the grandeur of the world that exists in the past, present, and future.

Then, in the form of the great universe, the lotus whirlpool was disturbed in one place.

English

In one place, all gentle beings are established together. In one place, the gods, demons, and human kings are all disturbed.

एक जगह पर, सभी सौम्य प्राणी एक साथ स्थापित हैं। एक जगह पर, देवता, असुर और मानव राजा सभी विक्षुब्ध हैं।

एकत्रासंभवद्भानुनित्याभिन्नतमोघनम् | एकत्रासंभवद्ध्वान्त कान्तं ज्वालोदरोपमम् || ३८ ||

ekatrāsaṃbhavadbhānunitābhinntamoghanam | ekatrāsaṃbhavaddhvānta kāntaṃ jvālodaropamam || 38 ||

English

In one place, the sun is eternally distinct from the dense darkness. In one place, the darkness is radiant, resembling the belly of a flame.

हिन्दी

एक जगह पर, सूर्य सदा घने अंधकार से अलग है। एक जगह पर, अंधकार चमकीला है, ज्वाला के पेट की तरह लगता है।

एकत्र नलिनीनालनिलीनमधुकैटभम् | एकत्र पद्ममञ्जूषासुप्तबालनवाब्जजम् || ३९ ||

ekatra nalinīnālanilīnamadhukaiṭabham | ekatra padmamañjūṣāsuptabālanavābjajam || 39 ||

English

In one place, the lotus stalk is filled with nectar and the demon Kaiṭabha. In one place, the lotus bud is like a sleeping young child.

हिन्दी

एक जगह पर, कमल की डंठल मधु और असुर कैटभ से भरी हुई है। एक जगह पर, कमल का बटर सोये हुए छोटे बच्चे की तरह है।

Those very same and different, equal and unequal, are recurring, and so are the others from outside.

English

Some beings are born again and again due to these characteristics. Some are similar to half of these, and some are equal to a quarter of these.
