śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | atha kalpāntamaruti vahatyavadhutācale | balenāmbhodhikallolairnabhasyāvartakāriṇi || 1 ||
Sri Vasistha said: Then, at the end of the kalpa, the wind blows over the barren mountains, with the force of the ocean waves, causing the sky to whirl.
श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: फिर, कल्प के अंत में, हवा उजाड़ पहाड़ों पर चलती है, समुद्र की लहरों की शक्ति से, आकाश को घुमाती हुई।
समुद्रेषु विमुद्रेषु मर्यादोल्लङ्घने घने | अधनेषु धनिष्वम्बुदारिद्र्योपद्रवद्रुते || २ ||
samudreṣu vimudreṣu maryādollaṅghane ghane | adhaneṣu dhaniṣvambudāridryopadravadruṭe || 2 ||
In the oceans that have lost their boundaries, in the dense clouds that bring poverty and calamities to the wealthy and the poor.
जिन समुद्रों ने अपनी सीमाएं खो दी हैं, जिन घने बादलों ने अमीरों और गरीबों पर गरीबी और आपदाएं ला दी हैं।
भूतले भूतलेशांशवर्जिते वह्निभर्जिते | पातालमपि पाताले गते किमपि कालतः || ३ ||
bhūtale bhūtaleśāṃśavarjite vahnibharjite | pātālamapi pātāle gate kimapi kālataḥ || 3 ||
On the earth, devoid of its rulers, scorched by fire, even the underworld is affected by the passage of time.
पृथ्वी पर, जिसके शासक नहीं हैं, आग से जली हुई, समय के प्रवाह से पाताल भी प्रभावित है।
दिवि वा विद्यमानायां विशीर्णे सर्गवर्गके | लोके व्योमगतालोके शोकौकसि ककुब्गणे || ४ ||
divi vā vidyamānāyāṃ viśīrṇe sargavargake | loke vyomagatāloke śokaukasi kakubgaṇe || 4 ||
In the sky, even if it exists, the creation is destroyed, the world is in the sky, full of sorrow and calamities.
आकाश में, भले ही वह मौजूद हो, सृष्टि नष्ट हो गई है, दुनिया आकाश में है, दुःख और आपदाओं से भरी हुई।
कुतोऽप्याकाशकुहराद्दृप्तदैत्यगणा इव | पुष्करावर्तका मेघाश्चक्रुर्गुलुगुलारवम् || ५ ||
kuto'pyākāśakuharāddṛptadaityagaṇā iva | puṣkarāvartakā meghāścakrurgulugulāravam || 5 ||
From some corner of the sky, like proud demons, the clouds in the form of lotus whirls made a rumbling sound.
आकाश के किसी कोने से, घमंडी दैत्यों की तरह, कमल के आकार में बादल गरजने लगे।
ब्रह्मविस्फोटितस्वाण्डकुड्यविस्फोटनोद्भटम्| अन्योन्यास्फालनोत्फालमत्तार्णवरवाविलम् || ६ ||
brahmavisphoṭitasvāṇḍakuḍyavisphoṭanodbhataṃ| anyonyāsphālanotphālamattārṇavaravāvilam || 6 ||
The universe, bursting with the sound of Brahma's egg, is filled with the clamor of shattering pots| The mutual collision and falling of the intoxicated ocean waves.
ब्रह्मांड का अंडा फटने की आवाज से भरा हुआ है, घड़ों के फूटने की आवाज से भरा हुआ है| परस्पर टकराने और गिरने की आवाज से मतवाले समुद्र की लहरें भरी हुई हैं।
लोकार्णवपुरोद्गीर्णघनकोलाहलोल्वणम्| एतत्कुलाचलस्कन्धबद्धोग्ररवघर्घरम् || ७ ||
lokārṇavapurodgīrṇaghanakolāhalolvaṇam| etatkulācalaskandhabaddhograravaghargharam || 7 ||
The world is submerged in the dense uproar of the ocean| This is the fierce sound bound to the mountain range.
संसार समुद्र के घने शोर में डूबा हुआ है| यह पर्वत श्रृंखला से जुड़ा हुआ भयानक शब्द है।
ब्रह्माण्डशङ्खजठरपूरणावर्तमन्थरम्| स्वर्लोकरोदःपातालतलतोऽतिसगुल्मकम् || ८ ||
brahmāṇḍaśaṅkhajaṭharapūraṇāvartamantharam| svarlokarodaḥpātālatalato’tisagulmakam || 8 ||
The universe is filled with the sound of conch shells, whirling and slow| From the heavenly realm to the underworld, it is extremely dense.
ब्रह्मांड शंख की आवाज से भरा हुआ है, घूमता हुआ और धीमा| स्वर्ग से लेकर पाताल तक, यह अत्यंत घना है।
समस्तदूरदिग्भित्तिहेलाहेलनघर्षुलम्| महाप्रलयसंपन्नापानकापानतर्षुलम् || ९ ||
samastadūradigbhittihelāhelanagharṣulam| mahāpralayasaṃpannāpānakāpānatarṣulam || 9 ||
The entire distant directions are filled with the sound of shouting and grinding| The great dissolution is filled with the sound of drinking and thirst.
सम्पूर्ण दूर दिशाएँ चिल्लाहट और कर्कश आवाज से भरी हुई हैं| महाप्रलय पीने और प्यास की आवाज से भरा हुआ है।
प्रसृतप्रलयाख्येन्द्रमत्तैरावतबृंहितम्| आकल्पक्षुब्धमेघाब्धिनिर्ह्रादमिव संभृतम् || १० ||
prasṛtapralayākhyendramattairāvatabṛṃhitam| ākalpakṣubdhameghābdhinirhrādamiva saṃbhṛtam || 10 ||
The dissolution is known as Indra's intoxicated elephant Airavata| It is as if the roaring of the agitated clouds of the ocean has been gathered.
प्रलय इंद्र के मतवाले हाथी ऐरावत के रूप में जाना जाता है| यह ऐसा लगता है जैसे समुद्र के उत्तेजित बादलों की गर्जना एकत्र की गई हो।
महाप्रलयसंक्षुब्धक्षीरोदमथनारवम् | ब्रह्माण्डोग्रारघट्टेऽस्मिन्वार्यन्त्रमिव सारवम् || ११ ||
mahāpralayasaṃkṣubdhakṣīrodamathanāravam | brahmāṇḍogrāraghaṭṭe'sminvāryantramiva sāravam || 11 ||
The tumultuous churning of the ocean of milk during the great dissolution is like a mighty machine in the vast universe, resounding with a deep roar.
महाप्रलय के समय क्षीर सागर का मथन एक भयंकर यंत्र की तरह है, जो ब्रह्मांड में गहरी गड़गड़ाहट के साथ गूंज रहा है।
अथास्मिन्सति कल्पाग्नौ स्थितिमेति कथं घनः | इति विस्मितवानस्मि दृशं दिग्नवकेऽत्यजम् || १२ ||
athāsmin sati kalpāgnau sthitim eti kathaṃ ghanaḥ | iti vismitavān asmi dṛśaṃ dignavake'tyajam || 12 ||
How can the dense cloud remain stable in this fiery dissolution? Thus, I was amazed, and my vision was obscured in all directions.
इस आग के प्रलय में घना बादल कैसे स्थिर रह सकता है? इस प्रकार मैं आश्चर्यचकित हो गया, और मेरी दृष्टि सभी दिशाओं में अस्पष्ट हो गई।
यावन्न क्वचिदेवात्र पश्याम्याशासु केवलम् | तरन्ति तरलास्फालमुल्मुकाशनिवृष्टयः || १३ ||
yāvanna kvacidevātra paśyāmyāśāsu kevalam | taranti taralāsphālam ulmukāśanivṛṣṭayaḥ || 13 ||
Until I see anything hopeful here, the unstable lightning strikes are crossing like flickering flames.
जब तक मैं यहाँ किसी आशा को नहीं देखता, तब तक अस्थिर बिजली की चमक झिलमिलाती लपटों की तरह चली जा रही है।
तेन ज्वलनतापेन बहुयोजनकोटिषु | पदार्था भस्मतां यान्ति दूरे दिक्षु दशस्वपि || १४ ||
tena jvalanatāpena bahuyojanakoṭiṣu | padārthā bhasmatāṃ yānti dūre dikṣu daśasvapi || 14 ||
Due to that intense heat of the blazing fire, objects are reduced to ashes in countless distant places in all ten directions.
उस तीव्र आग की गर्मी के कारण, असंख्य दूरस्थ स्थानों में दसों दिशाओं में वस्तुएँ भस्म हो जाती हैं।
अनन्तरं क्षणाद्व्योम्नि दूरेऽहमनुभूतवान् | ऊर्ध्वतः शीतलं वातमधस्तादनलोपमम् || १५ ||
anantaraṃ kṣaṇād vyomni dūre'ham anubhūtavān | ūrdhvataḥ śītalaṃ vātam adhastād analopamam || 15 ||
Immediately afterwards, I experienced in the distant sky a cool breeze from above and a fiery wind from below.
तुरंत बाद, मैंने दूरस्थ आकाश में ऊपर से ठंडी हवा और नीचे से आग की तरह गर्म हवा का अनुभव किया।
अथ वारुणदिग्भागादाययौ कल्पमारुतः । यस्मिंस्तृणवदुह्यन्ते विन्ध्यमेरुहिमालयाः || १७ ||
atha vāruṇadigbhāgādāyayau kalpamārutaḥ | yasmiṃstṛṇavaduhyante vindhyameruhimālayāḥ || 17 ||
Then, a storm arose from the western direction, in which the Vindhya, Meru, and Himalaya mountains were shaken like blades of grass.
तब, पश्चिम दिशा से एक तूफान उठा, जिसमें विन्ध्य, मेरु और हिमालय पर्वत घास के तिनकों की तरह हिल गए।
तेन ज्वालाचलाः प्रान्तोड्डीनाङ्गारविहंगमाः । लोलोल्मुकवनाक्रान्ता जग्मुरग्निदिशं द्रुतम् || १८ ||
tena jvālācalāḥ prāntoḍḍīnāṅgāravihangamāḥ | lololmukavanākrāntā jagmuragnidiśaṃ drutam || 18 ||
Due to that storm, the volcanoes, with their fiery peaks and embers flying like birds, and forests swaying, quickly moved towards the direction of fire.
उस तूफान के कारण, ज्वालामुखी, जिनके अग्नि के शिखर और अंगारे पक्षियों की तरह उड़ रहे थे, और वनों के साथ डोल रहे थे, तेजी से अग्नि की दिशा में बढ़ गए।
संध्याभ्रसदृशाकारास्तेरुरङ्गारवारिदाः । भ्रेमुर्भस्मभराभ्राणि पूताङ्गाररजांसि खे || १९ ||
saṃdhyābhra sadṛśākārāstērurangāravāridāḥ | bhremurbhasmabharābhraṇi pūtāṅgārarajāṃsi khe || 19 ||
The clouds, resembling the evening twilight, poured down embers like rain, and the ashes, purified by the embers, swirled in the sky.
संध्या के बादलों की तरह दिखने वाले बादल अंगारों की वर्षा करते थे, और अंगारों द्वारा पवित्र की गई राख आकाश में घूम रही थी।
स ज्वालविलसद्वातो दुष्टोऽनलदृशं व्रजन् । हेमाद्रीणां सपक्षाणामनीकं द्रवतामिव || २० ||
sa jvālavilasadvāto duṣṭo'naladṛśaṃ vrajan | hemādrīṇāṃ sapakṣāṇāmanīkaṃ dravatāmiva || 20 ||
That wind, adorned with flames, moving wickedly like fire, caused the army of the golden mountains with wings to flee as if in retreat.
उस आग से सजा हुआ वायु, जो दुष्ट और अग्नि की तरह चल रहा था, सोने के पहाड़ों की पंखों वाली सेना को पीछे हटने के समान भागने के लिए मजबूर कर दिया।
धराद्रिमण्डलाभोगे सौम्याङ्गारभरात्मनि । ज्वालावलिगणे जाते भाते तेजसि भास्वताम् || २१ ||
dharādrimaṇḍalābhogē saumyāṅgārabharātmani | jvālāvaligaṇē jātē bhātē tējasibhāsvatām || 21 ||
In the realm of the earth, mountains, and the circle of the moon, filled with gentle embers, the rows of flames arose, shining with brilliant light.
धरती, पहाड़ों और चंद्रमा के मण्डल में, जो कोमल अंगारों से भरा हुआ है, आग की पंक्तियाँ उठीं, जो चमकदार प्रकाश से चमक रही थीं।
अर्णवेष्वनलार्णस्सु क्वथनोत्फालवारिषु | वनेष्वस्मृतपर्णेषु दीप्ताग्नितरुधारिषु || २२ ||
arṇaveṣvanalārṇassu kvathanotphālavāriṣu | vaneṣvasmṛtaparṇeṣu dīptāgnitarudhāriṣu || 22 ||
In the oceans, where the fire of dissolution boils, in the forests where the leaves are forgotten, and in the trees that bear the blazing fire.
जहाँ प्रलय की अग्नि उबलती है, उन समुद्रों में, जहाँ पत्ते भूल गए हैं, उन वनों में, और जो पेड़ प्रज्वलित अग्नि को धारण करते हैं।
ब्रह्मलोकस्थनाथेषु ब्रह्मलोकपुरेषु च | साङ्गनाबालवृद्धेषु दग्धेषु निपतत्सु खम् || २३ ||
brahmalokasthanātheṣu brahmalokapureṣu ca | sāṅganābālavṛddheṣu dagdheṣu nipatatsu kham || 23 ||
In the cities of Brahmaloka, where the lords reside, and in the complete destruction of children and the elderly, falling from the sky.
जहाँ ब्रह्मलोक के स्वामी रहते हैं, ब्रह्मलोक के नगरों में, और बच्चों और बूढ़ों के पूर्ण विनाश में, आकाश से गिरते हुए।
कल्पान्तानलपद्मिन्या ब्रह्माग्रावसरोवरे | ज्वालापल्लवशालिन्याः सबीजायाः सटोल्मुकैः || २४ ||
kalpāntānalapadminyā brahmāgrāvasarovare | jvālāpallavaśālinyāḥ sabījāyāḥ saṭolmukaiḥ || 24 ||
In the lotus pond of Brahma's abode, which is filled with the fire of dissolution, with flames as its petals, and with seeds and sprouts.
ब्रह्मा के निवास स्थान के कमल तालाब में, जो प्रलय की अग्नि से भरा है, जिसके पंखुड़ियाँ ज्वालाएँ हैं, और जिसमें बीज और अंकुर हैं।
अनिलात्मसु मूलेषु नागेषु च नगेषु च | आपातालं निमग्नेषु महत्यङ्गारकर्दमे || २५ ||
anilātmasu mūleṣu nāgeṣu ca nageṣu ca | āpātālaṃ nimagneṣu mahatyaṅgārakardame || 25 ||
In the roots that are the essence of wind, in the serpents and mountains, submerged in the great abyss of embers.
जो वायु के सार हैं, उन जड़ों में, सर्पों और पर्वतों में, जो अंगारों के महान गर्त में डूबे हुए हैं।
उष्ट्रसैन्यमिवालक्ष्य गतिमन्निकटं नभः | आययावञ्जनश्यामः कल्पाम्बुदगणः क्वणन् || २६ ||
uṣṭrasainyamivālakṣya gatimannikataṃ nabhaḥ | āyayāvañjanśyāmaḥ kalpāmbudagaṇaḥ kvaṇan || 26 ||
Seeing the army of camels approaching, the dark cloud of dissolution, making a humming sound, came near the sky.
ऊँटों की सेना को आते देख, प्रलय का काला बादल, गुंजार करते हुए, आकाश के पास आया।
स्थिरकल्पानलज्वालातुल्यविद्युन्मयाचलः | एककोणकविश्रान्तसप्तार्णवपयोभरः || २७ ||
sthirakalpānalajvālātulyavidyunmayācalaḥ | ekakoṇakaviśrāntasaptārṇavapayobharaḥ || 27 ||
The mountain, which is steady and comparable to the flames of the fire of destruction, is made of lightning and bears the weight of the seven oceans, resting on a single corner.
यह पर्वत जो स्थिर है और प्रलय की अग्नि की ज्वालाओं के समान है, वह विद्युत से बना है और सात समुद्रों का भार वहन करता है, एक कोण पर विश्राम करता है।

bhittibhāsura nīhārabhāranirvār adiktaṭaḥ | brahmāṇḍa kuḍyanivida maṇḍalāsphoṭa paṇḍitaḥ || 28 ||
The shore that removes the burden of the radiant mist of the walls, is skilled in the bursting of the dense sphere of the universe.
जो दीवारों की चमकीली धुंध का भार दूर करता है, वह तट ब्रह्माण्ड के घने गोले के फटने में कुशल है।
कल्पान्तक्षुभिताम्भोधिर्वर्तुलावर्तवृत्तिमान् | तडिज्जलचरः सारनिर्ह्रादः खमिवागतः || २९ ||
kalpānta kṣubhitāmbhodhirvartulāvartavṛttimān | taḍijjalacaraḥ sāranirhrādaḥ khamivāgataḥ || 29 ||
The ocean, agitated at the end of the world, is circular in motion, and the lightning, moving like water, makes a deep sound as if it has reached the sky.
यह समुद्र, जो प्रलय के अंत में हलचल मचाता है, गोलाकार गति से चलता है, और विद्युत, जो पानी की तरह चलती है, एक गहरा शब्द करती है जैसे कि वह आकाश तक पहुंच गई है।

Dead and burnt, the lord of the night, then became twice as cold, taking another form, as if he had reached the other world.

hemasaṃbhārarūpeṇa himālayamivākhilam | jāḍyastambhitaniḥśeṣajalakāṣṭhācalaṃ dadhat || 31 ||
With the form of a heap of gold, it holds the entire Himalayas, with all its water, wood, and mountains frozen and stiffened by the cold.

Then, the sky became dense with the explosion of the universe | A heavy rain poured down, preceded by a sudden storm with hailstones.
फिर, ब्रह्मांड के विस्फोट से आकाश घना हो गया | अचानक आंधी और बर्फ के टुकड़ों के साथ भारी वर्षा हुई।
अग्निदाहवनाकाशविद्युदुन्मेषभीषणा | चटद्गडगडास्फोटस्फुटद्ब्रह्माण्डमण्डला || ३३ ||
agnidāhavanākāśavidyudunmeṣabhīṣaṇā| caṭadgaḍagaḍāsphoṭasphuṭadbrahmāṇḍamaṇḍalā || 33 ||
The sky was terrifying with the blazing fire, lightning flashes, and the crackling sound of the exploding universe.
आकाश धधकती आग, बिजली की चमक और ब्रह्मांड के विस्फोट की चटचटाहट से भयानक था।
प्रथितोत्थितसीत्कारशतक्ष्वेडाक्षयारवा | शीतसीकरनीहारभित्तिबन्धमयाम्बरा || ३४ ||
prathitotthitasītkāraśatakṣvedākṣayāravā| śītasīkaranīhārabhittibandhamayāmbarā || 34 ||
The sky was filled with the loud cries of people, the sound of a thousand screams, and the cold, icy hailstones.
आकाश लोगों की चीखों, हजारों चीत्कारों की आवाज और ठंडी, बर्फीली बूंदों से भरा हुआ था।

The earth was adorned with the brilliant assembly of crystal pillars and the essence of the streams flowing from the best mountains.
पृथ्वी स्फटिक के स्तंभों की चमकदार सभा और श्रेष्ठ पर्वतों से बहने वाली धाराओं की सार से सजी हुई थी।
धराचटचटास्फोटस्फुटदङ्गारपत्तना | गर्जितोर्जितसंपातपतल्लोकान्तराकुला || ३६ ||
dharācaṭacaṭāsphoṭasphuṭadaṅgārapattanā| garjitorjitasam̐pātapatallokāntarākulā || 36 ||
The earth trembled with the crackling sound of burning embers falling, and the worlds were disturbed by the roaring and powerful impact.
पृथ्वी धधकते अंगारों की चटचटाहट और गिरने की आवाज से काँप उठी, और गर्जना और शक्तिशाली प्रभाव से लोक व्याकुल हो गए।
सा बभूवाथ साङ्गारजगद्गेहविलासिनी | कृतप्रत्युद्गमा वाष्पश्रियाऽज्वलनया भुवः || ३७ ||
sā babhūvātha sāṅgārajagadgehavilāsinī | kṛtapratyudgamā vāṣpaśriyā'jvalanayā bhuvaḥ || 37 ||
She then became the ornament of the world, adorned with the splendor of the house, with tears of joy, and the earth blazed with her glory.
वह फिर संसार की शोभा बन गई, घर की शोभा से सजी हुई, आनंद के आंसुओं से और पृथ्वी उसकी महिमा से जल उठी।
ज्वालालवोल्ललनडम्बरमम्बरं तद्व्यूढस्थलाब्जदलजालमिवालमासीत् | ज्वालाभ्रमद्भमरपङ्क्तिनिभास्तदासंस्तत्र स्फुरच्छिशिरसीकरपक्षपुञ्जाः || ३८ ||
jvālālavollalanaḍambaramambaraṃ tadvyūḍasthalābjadalajālamivālamāsīt | jvālābhramadbhamarapaṅktinibhāstadāsaṃstatra sphuracchiśirasīkarapakṣapuñjāḥ || 38 ||
The sky was filled with the radiance of flames, resembling a lotus pond with its blossoms. The bees, intoxicated by the fragrance, buzzed around, and the cool drops of dew sparkled.
आकाश ज्वालाओं की चमक से भरा हुआ था, जो कि खिले हुए कमलों वाले तालाब की तरह लग रहा था। सुगंध से मतवाली भँवरें भनभना रही थीं, और ठंडे ओस की बूंदें चमक रही थीं।
उद्यद्बृहच्चटचटारवपूरिताशो भीमोऽभवत्सलिलदानलसंनिपातः | दुर्वारवैरिविषमो महतां बलानां संग्राम उग्र इव हेतिहतोग्रहेतिः || ३९ ||
udyadbṛhaccaṭacṭāravapūritāśo bhīmo'bhavatsaliladānalasaṃnipātaḥ | durvāravairiviṣamo mahatāṃ balānāṃ saṃgrāma ugra iva hetihetograhetiḥ || 39 ||
The fierce battle became terrible with the clashing of weapons and the roar of the ocean. It was as if the great warriors were engaged in a brutal and unyielding conflict.
यह भयंकर युद्ध हथियारों की टक्कर और समुद्र की गर्जना से भयानक हो गया। ऐसा लग रहा था मानो महान योद्धा एक कठोर और अटूट संघर्ष में लगे हुए हों।
