athāgrasthabrahmaloko brahmaṇi dhyānaśālini | nikṣiptākṣaḥ śanairdikṣu dṛṣṭavānahamagrataḥ || 1 ||
Then, while meditating on Brahman, I saw the highest Brahmaloka in front of me, with my eyes fixed on the directions.
तब, ब्रह्म पर ध्यान लगाते हुए, मैंने अपनी आँखें दिशाओं पर टिकाकर, अपने सामने सर्वोच्च ब्रह्मलोक देखा।
द्वितीयमर्कं मध्याह्ने पश्चादभ्युदितं स्फुटम् | दिग्दाहमिव दिग्वक्रे वनदाहमिवाचले || २ ||
dvitīyamarkaṃ madhyāhne paścādabhyuditaṃ sphuṭam | digdāhamiva digvakre vanadāhamivācale || 2 ||
Then, I saw a second sun clearly rising in the afternoon, like a forest fire on a mountain, burning the directions.

Then, I saw a blazing sun in the southwest direction, a sun in the southern direction, and a sun in the southeast direction.

A sun in the eastern direction, a sun in the northeastern direction, a sun in the northern direction, and a sun in the northwestern direction.
पूर्व दिशा में एक सूर्य, उत्तर-पूर्व दिशा में एक सूर्य, उत्तर दिशा में एक सूर्य, और उत्तर-पश्चिम दिशा में एक सूर्य।

A sun in the northwestern direction, a sun in the western direction, and a sun in the southwestern direction. I was amazed by this.
उत्तर-पश्चिम दिशा में एक सूर्य, पश्चिम दिशा में एक सूर्य, और दक्षिण-पश्चिम दिशा में एक सूर्य। मैं इससे आश्चर्यचकित हो गया।
यावद्विचारयाम्याशु विधिवैधुर्यमाकुलम् | उदभूद्भूतलात्तावदर्क और्व इवार्णवात् || ६ ||
yāvadvicārayāmyāśu vidhivaidhuryamākulam | udabhūdbhūtalāttāvadarka aurva ivārṇavāt || 6 ||
As I quickly contemplated the confusion caused by fate, a form like the sun rising from the ocean appeared from the earth.
जैसे ही मैंने भाग्य के उलझन को जल्दी से सोचा, एक सूर्य की तरह समुद्र से उठने वाला रूप पृथ्वी से प्रकट हुआ।

ekādaśe'khilārkāṇāṃ pratibimbamivottitam | udabhūttrayamarkāṇāmantare diggaṇāmbare || 7 ||
In the eleventh position, a reflection of all the suns arose, and in the midst of the three suns, it appeared in the sky.

That indeed was a fierce form there, in the midst of which were three eyes. That group of twelve was radiant and brilliant like the suns.

sarvadikkam dadāhoccaiḥ śuṣkaṃ vanamivānalaḥ | athodabhūj jagatkhaṇḍaśoṣaṇagrīṣmavāsaraḥ || 9 ||
It burned everything in all directions intensely, like a fire burning a dry forest. Then arose a day of summer that dried up the world.
यह सभी दिशाओं में तीव्रता से जला दिया, जैसे आग एक सूखे वन को जला रही हो। फिर एक ऐसा गर्मी का दिन उभरा जो संसार को सुखा दिया।

anagniragnidāho drāgadṛśyolmukagulmakaḥ | anagnināgnidāhena tena tāmarasekṣaṇa || 10 ||
Without fire, there was a burning sensation, slowly visible like a small flame. With that fireless burning, he looked with reddened eyes.
बिना आग के, एक जलन की अनुभूति थी, धीरे-धीरे एक छोटी लौ की तरह दिखाई देती हुई। उस बिना आग के जलने से, उसने लाल आँखों से देखा।
अङ्गानि दावदग्धानि खिन्नानीव ममाभवन् | प्रदेशं तमथ त्यक्त्वा दूरमारूढवानहम् || ११ ||
aṅgāni dāvadagdhāni khinnānīva mamābhavan | pradeśaṃ tamatha tyaktvā dūramārūḍhavānaham || 11 ||
My limbs seemed to be burnt by the forest fire, as if they were exhausted. Leaving that place, I went far away.
मेरे अंग जंगल की आग से जले हुए लग रहे थे, मानो वे थके हुए हों। उस स्थान को छोड़कर, मैं दूर चला गया।
दृढहस्ततलाघातहतकन्दुकवन्नभः | अपश्यं गगनस्थोऽहमुदितं चण्डतेजसम् || १२ ||
dṛḍhahastatalāghātahatakandukavannabhaḥ | apaśyaṃ gaganastho'hamuditaṃ caṇḍatejasam || 12 ||
I saw the sky, struck by the firm blow of the hand, like a ball, fierce and radiant.
मैंने आकाश देखा, जो हाथ के मजबूत प्रहार से मारा गया था, जैसे एक गेंद, तेज और चमकदार।
तपन्तं द्वादशादित्यगणं दिक्षु दशस्वपि | बृहत्तत्र सतारावज्वालेव भगणं चलम् || १३ ||

I saw the twelve suns blazing in all ten directions, and the constellations moving like a blazing array of stars.

I heard a great rumbling sound, as if the seven oceans were boiling, and saw the inner worlds and cities ablaze with flames and smoke.

I saw the mountains turned into vermilion by the dense smoke and flames, and the great mansion shining with steady lightning.
मैंने पर्वतों को घने धुएँ और ज्वालाओं से सिंदूर की तरह रंगा हुआ देखा, और महान महल को स्थिर बिजली से चमकते हुए देखा।
स्फुरत्कटकटाटोपचटत्पत्तनमण्डलम् | विदधद्भूतलोद्भूतधूमदण्डैः शिलाघनैः || १६ ||
sphuratkaṭakaṭāṭopacaṭatpattanamaṇḍalam | vidadhadbhūtalodbhūtadhūmadaṇḍaiḥ śilāghanaiḥ || 16 ||
The earth trembles with the clamor of the clattering hooves of the horses, and the sky is filled with the smoke of the burning cities, as if the very stones are crying out.
धरती घोड़ों की टापों की आवाज से काँप रही है, और आकाश जलते हुए शहरों के धुएँ से भरा हुआ है, मानो पत्थर भी चीख रहे हों।
काचस्तम्भसहस्राढ्यं भुवनस्थानमण्डपम् | क्वथद्भूतमहाभूतताराक्रन्दातिघर्घरम् || १७ ||
kācastambhasahasrāḍhyaṃ bhuvanasthānamaṇḍapam | kvathadbhūtamahābhūtatārākrandātighargharam || 17 ||
The palace, adorned with a thousand glass pillars, is filled with the cries of the great beings and the roaring of the stars.

The earth is shattered by the fall of the celestial cities, and the stars are scattered, causing the ground to tremble with the impact of precious gems.
धरती दिव्य नगरों के गिरने से टूट गई है, और तारे बिखर गए हैं, जिससे कीमती रत्नों के प्रभाव से जमीन काँप रही है।
सर्वस्थलालयचलद्दह्यमानजनव्रजम् | क्षीणाक्रन्दक्वथद्भूतगणदुर्वासदिक्तटम् || १९ ||

Every place is shaking with the burning of people, and the cries of the beings are diminishing, as if the directions are being cursed by Durvasa.
हर जगह लोगों के जलने से काँप रही है, और प्राणियों की चीखें कम हो रही हैं, मानो दिशाएँ दुर्वासा के शाप से प्रभावित हो रही हैं।
उत्तप्ताम्बूदराखिन्नजलेचरमहार्णवम् | सर्वदिक्कानलप्लोषक्षीणाक्रन्दपुरान्तरम् || २० ||
uttaptāmbūdarākhinnajalecaramahārṇavam | sarvadikkānalaploṣakṣīṇākrandapurāntaram || 20 ||
The great ocean, heated by the scorching sun, is filled with suffering marine creatures, and all directions are burning, with the cries of the cities diminishing.
सूर्य की तपिश से गर्म हुआ महासागर पीड़ित जलचरों से भरा हुआ है, और सभी दिशाएँ जल रही हैं, जिससे शहरों की चीखें कम हो रही हैं।

The mountains are shaken and their peaks are lifted up, with smoke rising from the caves of the earth.

patatparvatanispishṭapluṣṭapattanamaṇḍalam | pacatpacapacāśabdaśabditādrīndrakuñjaram || 22 ||
The falling mountains are crushed and the flying creatures are burned, with the sound of crackling and the roar of the king of mountains.
गिरते हुए पर्वत कुचले जा रहे हैं और उड़ने वाले जीव जल रहे हैं, चटकने की आवाज और पर्वत राजा की गर्जना सुनाई दे रही है।
तापतप्तोन्नमद्भूतज्वरितार्णवपर्वतम् | हृदयस्फोटनिःसारपतद्विद्याधराङ्गनम् || २३ ||
tāpataptōnnnamadbhūtajvaritārṇavaparvatam | hṛdayasphōṭaniḥsārapatadvidyādharāṅganam || 23 ||
The heated ocean and mountains are swollen and trembling, with the celestial beings falling from the sky, their hearts bursting.

The gods are exhausted from crying and screaming, and the underworld is heated by the flames from the serpent realm.

The ocean is dried up and its fierce waters are boiling, and without the binding of Aurva, it bursts into a thousand pieces.

Then, rising from the dance, he seized the sky-maiden, and then arose a brilliant flame, adorned with the rays of the Kinsuka flower.

Like the fire of destruction, he danced the Tandava, adorned with trembling waves and garlands, making a loud, resounding noise like a mighty warrior.

With flames rising and smoke as hair, he danced, making the old huts, forests, ancient cities, and towns blaze.

The islands, forts, forests, lands, all the mines, the great sky, the hopes, the ten directions, and the head of the sky.

The caves, the sound of the ghat, the cities, the beautiful directions, the peaks, the groups of siddhas, the mountains, and the oceans.

सरः सरस्यः सरितो देवासुरनरोरगाः | आशाः शनशनाशब्दैः पुरुषैश्च शिवार्चिषाम् || ३१ ||
saraḥ sarasyaḥ sarito devāsuranaroragāḥ | āśāḥ śanaśanāśabdaiḥ puruṣaiśca śivārciṣām || 31 ||
The lakes, ponds, rivers, gods, demons, humans, and serpents, along with the hopes and the sounds of 'shana shana,' and the men with the flames of Shiva.
झीलें, तालाब, नदियाँ, देवता, असुर, मनुष्य और सर्प, आशाएँ और 'शन शन' की आवाज़ें, और शिव की ज्वालाओं वाले पुरुष।

The demons with terrifying roars, with blazing flames and upward-rising flames, making frightening sounds and covered in abundant ashes.
भयानक गर्जना वाले असुर, ज्वालाओं और ऊपर उठती ज्वालाओं से युक्त, भयानक आवाज़ें बनाते हुए और बहुत राख से ढके हुए।

Flames emerged from the caves of mountains and lands, and all the beings with reddish flames in their bellies.
ज्वालाएँ पहाड़ों और भूमि की गुफाओं से निकलीं, और सभी प्राणी जिनके पेट में लाल ज्वालाएँ थीं।

The lotuses blooming on the ground gave up their beauty, instantly turning red like the beautiful vermilion clouds.

dhagaddhagiti gāyadbhirjvālājālairjagadgataiḥ | āsīdraktāṃśukaiḥ kīrṇaṃ saṃdhyābhrairiva vā nabhaḥ || 35 ||
The sky was filled with the sounds of 'dhaga dhaga' sung by the flames that covered the world, as if covered with red garments like the evening clouds.
आकाश धग धग की आवाज़ों से भरा हुआ था, जो ज्वालाओं द्वारा गाई जा रही थीं और संसार को ढके हुए थे, मानो शाम के बादलों की तरह लाल वस्त्रों से ढका हो।

The forests were covered with blooming Kinsuka trees, as if they were embraced by the rising sun. The Ashoka groves were also covered, as if by the sage Aurva.
किंशुक वनों से ढके हुए थे, जैसे उगते सूर्य से घिरे हुए हों। अशोक वन भी और्व ऋषि से ढके हुए थे।
इव स्थलाब्जवलिता राविरा इव चार्णवाः | नानावर्णज्वलज्ज्वालाधूमविन्यासबन्धवान् || ३७ ||
iva sthalābjavalitā rāvirā iva cārṇavāḥ | nānāvarṇajvalajjvālādhūmavinyāsabandhavān || 37 ||
The earth was adorned with lotuses, as if the sun was shining. The oceans were also adorned with various colored flames and smoke.
पृथ्वी कमलों से सजी हुई थी, जैसे सूर्य चमक रहा हो। समुद्र भी विभिन्न रंगों की ज्वालाओं और धुएँ से सजे हुए थे।
रूढं वह्निमिवाधातुं चित्रसौधलताश्रयम् | अनन्त इव विन्यास वनयौवनपावकः || ३८ ||
rūḍhaṃ vahnimivādhātuṃ citrasaudhalatāśrayam | ananta iva vinyāsa vanayauvanapāvakaḥ || 38 ||
The fire was established as if to burn the elements, taking refuge in the colorful mansion's vines. The arrangement was endless, like the youthful fire of the forest.
अग्नि स्थापित थी जैसे तत्वों को जलाने के लिए, रंगीन महल की लताओं में आश्रय लेते हुए। व्यवस्था अनंत थी, जैसे वन की युवा अग्नि।

शनैरीषदिव क्षुब्धैः सह्योऽसह्यत्वमाययौ | मध्यमध्यकचत्कार्ष्ण्यभ्रमद्धूमालिमालितम् || ४० ||

आकाश ऐसा लग रहा था मानो वह लपटों के पराग से भरा हो, और आकाश में पर्वतों की चोटियाँ लपटों की चोटियों के समान थीं।

The directions, though ten in number, became helpless and behaved like madmen. The golden liquid flowed, and the king of mountains, along with the trees, houses, and caves, was affected.

āsīttyajatyudārātmā na nāśe'pyuttamaṃ guṇam| naśyannapi mahān hlādaṃ na khedaṃ saṃprayacchati || 52 ||
Even when destroyed, the noble-minded person does not lose their supreme qualities. Even while perishing, they bring great joy and do not cause sorrow.
नष्ट होने पर भी, उदार मन वाला व्यक्ति अपने उत्तम गुणों को नहीं खोता। नष्ट होते हुए भी, वह महान आनंद देता है और दुःख नहीं पहुँचाता।
चन्दनं दग्धमप्यासीदानन्दायैव जीवताम्| न कदाचन संयाति वस्तूत्तममवस्तुताम् || ५३ ||
candanaṃ dagdhamapyāsīdānandāyaiva jīvatām| na kadācana saṃyāti vastūttamamavastutām || 53 ||
Even when burnt, sandalwood brings joy to the living. It never loses its supreme qualities.
जलाये जाने पर भी, चन्दन जीवित लोगों को आनंद देता है। यह कभी भी अपने उत्तम गुणों को नहीं खोता।
प्रलयानलनिर्दग्धमपि हेम न नष्टवत्| द्वे हेमनभसी तस्मिन्न नष्टे प्रलयानले || ५४ ||
pralayānalanirdagdhamapi hema na naṣṭavat| dve hemanabhasī tasminna naṣṭe pralayānale || 54 ||
Even when burnt by the fire of destruction, gold does not perish. In that destruction, two things remain: gold and the sky.
विनाश की आग में जलाये जाने पर भी, सोना नष्ट नहीं होता। उस विनाश में, दो चीजें बचती हैं: सोना और आकाश।
तयोरेव वपुः श्लाघ्यं सर्वनाशेऽप्यनाशयोः| नभो विभुतयाऽनाशि हेमाकृष्टतयाक्षयम् || ५५ ||
tayoreva vapuḥ ślāghyaṃ sarvanāśe'pyanāśayoḥ| nabho vibhutayā'nāśi hemaākṛṣṭatayākṣayam || 55 ||
The forms of both gold and the sky are praiseworthy, as they remain indestructible even in complete destruction. The sky is eternal due to its vastness, and gold is eternal due to its inherent value.
सोने और आकाश दोनों के रूप प्रशंसनीय हैं, क्योंकि वे पूर्ण विनाश में भी अविनाशी बने रहते हैं। आकाश अपनी विशालता के कारण अनंत है, और सोना अपने मूल्य के कारण अनंत है।

sattvamekaṃ sukhaṃ manye na rajo na ca vā tamaḥ | caladuccavanānīva vikīrṇāṅgāravaṛṣaṇaḥ || 56 ||
I consider sattva (purity) to be the only source of happiness, not rajas (passion) or tamas (ignorance). Like the scattering of burning embers, the fire of passion and ignorance is destructive.
मैं सत्त्व (शुद्धता) को ही सुख का एकमात्र स्रोत मानता हूँ, न कि रजोगुण (क्रोध) या तमोगुण (अज्ञान)। जैसे चिंगारियाँ बिखर जाती हैं, वैसे ही क्रोध और अज्ञान की आग विनाशकारी होती है।
दग्धाब्दाद्रिर्महाधूमज्वालोऽभूद्वह्निवारिदः | रसविस्मरणार्तानां शून्यानां स्फारदेहिनाम् || ५७ ||
dagdhābdādrirmahādhūmajvālo'bhūdvahnivāridaḥ | rasavismaraṇārtānāṃ śūnyānāṃ sphāradehinām || 57 ||
The mountain, burnt by the fire of passion, became a great smoky flame, like a cloud of fire. Those who are tormented by the forgetfulness of taste are empty and their bodies are swollen.
क्रोध की आग से जला हुआ पर्वत एक बड़ी धुएँ की लपट बन गया, जैसे आग का बादल। जो लोग स्वाद की भूल से पीड़ित हैं, वे खाली हैं और उनके शरीर सूजे हुए हैं।
शुष्काणां व्योमविटपिपत्राणां पात्ररूपिणाम् | वारिदानां सवारीणां दग्धानां प्रलयार्चिषा || ५८ ||
śuṣkāṇāṃ vyomaviṭapipatrāṇāṃ pātrarūpiṇām | vāridānāṃ savārīṇāṃ dagdhānāṃ pralayārciṣā || 58 ||
The dry leaves of the sky-tree, which are like vessels, are burnt by the flames of destruction, along with the clouds that carry water.
आकाश के वृक्ष के सूखे पत्ते, जो पात्रों की तरह हैं, विनाश की लपटों से जल जाते हैं, साथ ही पानी लेकर चलने वाले बादल भी।
ज्ञस्येवाङ्ग न दोषाणां दृष्टं भस्मापि न क्वचित् | न लङ्घयति कैलासं यावदुल्लसितोऽनलः || ५९ ||
jñasyevāṅga na doṣāṇāṃ dṛṣṭaṃ bhasmāpi na kvacit | na laṅghayati kailāsaṃ yāvadullasito'nalaḥ || 59 ||
Just as the body of the knower is not seen to be ashes anywhere, the fire does not cross Kailasa as long as it is blazing.
जैसे ज्ञानी का शरीर कहीं भी भस्म नहीं दिखता, वैसे ही आग तब तक कैलास को नहीं पार करती जब तक वह जल रही होती है।
तावत्तं कल्पकुपितो रुद्रो नेत्राग्निनादहत् | दाहस्फुटद्द्रुमस्थूलशिलाचटचटारवाः || ६० ||
tāvattāṃ kalpakupito rudro netrāgninādahat | dāhasphuṭaddrumasthūlaśilācaṭacaṭāravāḥ || 60 ||
Until then, the angry Rudra burned him with the fire of his eyes, causing the thick trees and rocks to burst and crackle with the sound of burning.

The end of the eon reminds the foolish of their forgetfulness | Those who are supremely afflicted by heat and suffering are intent on ultimate destruction | The fires concealed the world as if it were non-existent
