अथाग्रस्थब्रह्मलोको ब्रह्मणि ध्यानशालिनि । निक्षिप्ताक्षः शनैर्दिक्षु दृष्टवानहमग्रतः ॥ १ ॥
athāgrasthabrahmaloko brahmaṇi dhyānaśālini | nikṣiptākṣaḥ śanairdikṣu dṛṣṭavānahamagrataḥ || 1 ||
Then, while meditating on Brahman, I saw the highest Brahmaloka in front of me, with my eyes fixed on the directions.

I saw the sky, struck by the firm blow of the hand, like a ball, fierce and radiant.

The earth trembles with the clamor of the clattering hooves of the horses, and the sky is filled with the smoke of the burning cities, as if the very stones are crying out.

रूढं वह्निमिवाधातुं चित्रसौधलताश्रयम् । अनन्त इव विन्यास वनयौवनपावकः ॥ ३८ ॥
rūḍhaṃ vahnimivādhātuṃ citrasaudhalatāśrayam | ananta iva vinyāsa vanayauvanapāvakaḥ || 38 ||
The fire was established as if to burn the elements, taking refuge in the colorful mansion's vines. The arrangement was endless, like the youthful fire of the forest.
अग्नि स्थापित थी जैसे तत्वों को जलाने के लिए, रंगीन महल की लताओं में आश्रय लेते हुए। व्यवस्था अनंत थी, जैसे वन की युवा अग्नि।
उदयास्तमयादिभ्यो विन्ध्यो विधुरतामगात् । अङ्गारकल्पविटपैर्ज्वालावनविवल्गनैः ॥ ३९ ॥
udayāstamayādibhyo vindhyo vidhuratāmagāt | aṅgārakalpaviṭapairjvālāvanavivalganaiḥ || 39 ||
From sunrise to sunset, the Vindhya mountains attained a reddish hue, with branches like embers, blazing like a forest fire.
सूर्योदय से सूर्यास्त तक, विंध्य पर्वत लालिमा प्राप्त कर गए, जैसे अंगारों की शाखाएँ, जंगल की आग की तरह धधकती हुई।
शनैरीषदिव क्षुब्धैः सह्योऽसह्यत्वमाययौ । मध्यमध्यकचत्कार्ष्ण्यभ्रमद्धूमालिमालितम् ॥ ४० ॥
śanairīṣadiva kṣubdhaiḥ sahyo''asahyatvamāyayau | madhyamadhyakacatkārṣṇyabhramaddhūmālimālitam || 40 ||
Gradually, the Sahya mountains became unbearable, as if slightly disturbed, covered with dark, swirling smoke.
धीरे-धीरे, सह्य पर्वत असह्य हो गए, जैसे थोड़े विचलित, काले, घूमते धुएँ से ढके हुए।
वलज्ज्वालाब्जमलिनं दृष्टं सर इवाम्बरम् । खेऽद्रीणां शिखरे व्योम्नि शिखाशिखरशेखराः ॥ ४१ ॥
valajjvālābjamalinaṃ dṛṣṭaṃ sara ivāmbaram | khe'drīṇāṃ śikhare vyomni śikhāśikharaśekharāḥ || 41 ||
The sky appeared as if it were smeared with the pollen of flames, and the peaks of the mountains in the sky were like the crests of flames.
आकाश ऐसा लग रहा था मानो वह लपटों के पराग से भरा हो, और आकाश में पर्वतों की चोटियाँ लपटों की चोटियों के समान थीं।
ननृतुर्नीरसा नाशनर्तक्यः केतुकुन्तलाः । तलाहितानलज्वाला ब्रह्माण्डोर्ध्वकपाटभूः ॥ ४२ ॥
nanṛtur nīrasā nāśanartakyaḥ ketukuntalāḥ | talāhitānalajvālā brahmāṇḍordhvakapāṭabhūḥ || 42 ||
The dancers, devoid of joy, did not dance, and the flags with curly hair did not flutter. The flames of the fire reached the upper lid of the universe.
नर्तकियाँ, जो आनंद से रहित थीं, नृत्य नहीं कर रही थीं, और घुंघराले बालों वाले झंडे नहीं लहरा रहे थे। आग की लपटें ब्रह्मांड के ऊपरी ढक्कन तक पहुँच गईं।

The wealth of the rising ghosts was scattered on the ground. The sound of the bells, the water, and the fire were of various colors and not red.
उठते हुए भूतों का धन जमीन पर बिखर गया। घंटियों की आवाज, पानी और आग अलग-अलग रंगों की थी और लाल नहीं थी।
हृत्प्रकोष्ठे जगल्लक्ष्म्याः सौवर्णीवाभवत्तदा । शैलाश्चटचटास्फोटैर्वृक्षाः कटकटारवैः ॥ ४४ ॥
hṛtprakoṣṭhe jagallakṣmyāḥ sauvarṇīvābhavattadā | śailāścaṭacaṭāsphotairvṛkṣāḥ kaṭakaṭāravaiḥ || 44 ||
In the heart's treasure chest, the world's beauty became golden. The mountains cracked with a clattering sound, and the trees made a rattling noise.
हृदय के खजाने में, दुनिया की सुंदरता सोने की तरह हो गई। पहाड़ खड़खड़ाहट की आवाज के साथ फट गए, और पेड़ खड़खड़ाहट की आवाज कर रहे थे।
देशा हलहलोल्लासैरलं विदलनं ययुः । अब्धयः क्वथिताकाराः फेनिलोल्लासमांसलाः ॥ ४५ ॥
deśā halahalollāsairalaṃ vidalanaṃ yayuḥ | abdhayaḥ kvathitākārāḥ phenilollāsamāṃsalāḥ || 45 ||
The regions were filled with the sound of commotion and were torn apart. The oceans were boiling and foaming with excitement.
क्षेत्र हलचल की आवाज से भरे हुए थे और चीरे-फाड़े हो गए। समुद्र उबल रहे थे और उत्तेजना से फेन उठा रहे थे।
वीचीकरतलाघातांश्चक्रुरर्कमुखे मुखे । अन्योन्यवेल्लितोल्लोलभूतलाकारपर्वतम् ॥ ४६ ॥
vīcīkaratalāghātāṃścakrurarkamukhe muke | anyonyavellitololabhūtalākāraparvatam || 46 ||
The waves struck each other's faces, creating a mountain-like structure on the surface of the earth that seemed to sway and tremble.
लहरें एक-दूसरे के मुख पर आघात कर रही थीं, जिससे पृथ्वी की सतह पर एक झूलता-डोलता पर्वत-सा आकार बन गया।
जह्णुर्वीचीकरैर्देहे जडाः प्रकुपिता इव । आशाकाशाशिनामेषां गुहागुहगुहारवान् ॥ ४७ ॥
jahṇurvīcīkarairdehe jaḍāḥ prakupitā iva | āśākāśāśināmeṣāṃ guhāguhaguharavān || 47 ||
The waves, as if enraged, struck the body of Jahnu, making the caves and the sky resound with their echoing roars.
लहरें, जैसे क्रोधित हों, जह्नु के शरीर पर आघात कर रही थीं, जिससे गुफाओं और आकाश में उनकी गूँजती गर्जना गूँज रही थी।

The sound of the fiery flames arose, as if the walls of the mountains, heated by the falling embers from the cities of the guardians of the world, were cracking.
अग्नि की ज्वालाओं की आवाज उठी, जैसे लोकपालों के नगरों से गिरने वाली तप्त अंगारों से पर्वतों की दीवारें फट रही हों।
दिशो दशापि वैवश्यं ययुरुन्मत्तवृत्तयः । काञ्चनद्रवसाद्रीन्द्रद्रुमागारगुहागृहः ॥ ४९ ॥
diśo daśāpi vaivaśyaṃ yayurunmattavṛttayaḥ | kāñcanadravasādrīndradrumāgāraguhāgṛhaḥ || 49 ||
The directions, though ten in number, became helpless and behaved like madmen. The golden liquid flowed, and the king of mountains, along with the trees, houses, and caves, was affected.
दिशाएँ, दस की संख्या में, असहाय हो गईं और पागलों की तरह व्यवहार करने लगीं। सोने का द्रव बहने लगा, और पर्वतों के राजा, पेड़, घर और गुफाएँ प्रभावित हो गईं।

śanaiścārvākṛtirmerurāsīddhima ivātape | kṣaṇenaivānalāttasmāddhimavāñjatuvaddrutaḥ || 50 ||
Slowly, Meru, the king of mountains, became like snow in the heat. In an instant, due to that fire, the Himalayas melted quickly.
धीरे-धीरे, मेरु, पर्वतों का राजा, गर्मी में बर्फ की तरह हो गया। एक पल में, उस आग के कारण, हिमालय तेजी से पिघल गया।
सर्वान्तःशीतलः शुद्धो दुर्जनादिव सज्जनः। तस्यामपि दशायां तु मलयोऽमलसौरभः ॥ ५१ ॥
sarvāntaḥśītalaḥ śuddho durjanādiva sajjanaḥ| tasyāmapi daśāyāṃ tu malayo'malasaurabhaḥ || 51 ||
Even in the worst conditions, the pure and cool-hearted person remains virtuous like sandalwood, which retains its fragrance even among thorns.
सबसे खराब हालातों में भी, शुद्ध और शीतल हृदय वाला व्यक्ति चन्दन की तरह अपनी सुगंध बनाए रखता है, जो काँटों के बीच भी अपनी खुशबू बनाए रखता है।
आसीत्त्यजत्युदारात्मा न नाशेऽप्युत्तमं गुणम्। नश्यन्नपि महान् ह्लादं न खेदं संप्रयच्छति ॥ ५२ ॥
āsīttyajatyudārātmā na nāśe'pyuttamaṃ guṇam| naśyannapi mahān hlādaṃ na khedaṃ saṃprayacchati || 52 ||
Even when destroyed, the noble-minded person does not lose their supreme qualities. Even while perishing, they bring great joy and do not cause sorrow.
नष्ट होने पर भी, उदार मन वाला व्यक्ति अपने उत्तम गुणों को नहीं खोता। नष्ट होते हुए भी, वह महान आनंद देता है और दुःख नहीं पहुँचाता।
चन्दनं दग्धमप्यासीदानन्दायैव जीवताम्। न कदाचन संयाति वस्तूत्तममवस्तुताम् ॥ ५३ ॥
candanaṃ dagdhamapyāsīdānandāyaiva jīvatām| na kadācana saṃyāti vastūttamamavastutām || 53 ||
Even when burnt, sandalwood brings joy to the living. It never loses its supreme qualities.
जलाये जाने पर भी, चन्दन जीवित लोगों को आनंद देता है। यह कभी भी अपने उत्तम गुणों को नहीं खोता।
प्रलयानलनिर्दग्धमपि हेम न नष्टवत्। द्वे हेमनभसी तस्मिन्न नष्टे प्रलयानले ॥ ५४ ॥
pralayānalanirdagdhamapi hema na naṣṭavat| dve hemanabhasī tasminna naṣṭe pralayānale || 54 ||
Even when burnt by the fire of destruction, gold does not perish. In that destruction, two things remain: gold and the sky.
विनाश की आग में जलाये जाने पर भी, सोना नष्ट नहीं होता। उस विनाश में, दो चीजें बचती हैं: सोना और आकाश।
तयोरेव वपुः श्लाघ्यं सर्वनाशेऽप्यनाशयोः। नभो विभुतयाऽनाशि हेमाकृष्टतयाक्षयम् ॥ ५५ ॥
tayoreva vapuḥ ślāghyaṃ sarvanāśe'pyanāśayoḥ| nabho vibhutayā'nāśi hemaākṛṣṭatayākṣayam || 55 ||
The forms of both gold and the sky are praiseworthy, as they remain indestructible even in complete destruction. The sky is eternal due to its vastness, and gold is eternal due to its inherent value.
सोने और आकाश दोनों के रूप प्रशंसनीय हैं, क्योंकि वे पूर्ण विनाश में भी अविनाशी बने रहते हैं। आकाश अपनी विशालता के कारण अनंत है, और सोना अपने मूल्य के कारण अनंत है।
सत्त्वमेकं सुखं मन्ये न रजो न च वा तमः । चलदुच्चवनानीव विकीर्णाङ्गारवर्षणः ॥ ५६ ॥
sattvamekaṃ sukhaṃ manye na rajo na ca vā tamaḥ | caladuccavanānīva vikīrṇāṅgāravaṛṣaṇaḥ || 56 ||
I consider sattva (purity) to be the only source of happiness, not rajas (passion) or tamas (ignorance). Like the scattering of burning embers, the fire of passion and ignorance is destructive.
मैं सत्त्व (शुद्धता) को ही सुख का एकमात्र स्रोत मानता हूँ, न कि रजोगुण (क्रोध) या तमोगुण (अज्ञान)। जैसे चिंगारियाँ बिखर जाती हैं, वैसे ही क्रोध और अज्ञान की आग विनाशकारी होती है।
दग्धाब्दाद्रिर्महाधूमज्वालोऽभूद्वह्निवारिदः । रसविस्मरणार्तानां शून्यानां स्फारदेहिनाम् ॥ ५७ ॥
dagdhābdādrirmahādhūmajvālo'bhūdvahnivāridaḥ | rasavismaraṇārtānāṃ śūnyānāṃ sphāradehinām || 57 ||
The mountain, burnt by the fire of passion, became a great smoky flame, like a cloud of fire. Those who are tormented by the forgetfulness of taste are empty and their bodies are swollen.
क्रोध की आग से जला हुआ पर्वत एक बड़ी धुएँ की लपट बन गया, जैसे आग का बादल। जो लोग स्वाद की भूल से पीड़ित हैं, वे खाली हैं और उनके शरीर सूजे हुए हैं।
शुष्काणां व्योमविटपिपत्राणां पात्ररूपिणाम् । वारिदानां सवारीणां दग्धानां प्रलयार्चिषा ॥ ५८ ॥
śuṣkāṇāṃ vyomaviṭapipatrāṇāṃ pātrarūpiṇām | vāridānāṃ savārīṇāṃ dagdhānāṃ pralayārciṣā || 58 ||
The dry leaves of the sky-tree, which are like vessels, are burnt by the flames of destruction, along with the clouds that carry water.
आकाश के वृक्ष के सूखे पत्ते, जो पात्रों की तरह हैं, विनाश की लपटों से जल जाते हैं, साथ ही पानी लेकर चलने वाले बादल भी।
ज्ञस्येवाङ्ग न दोषाणां दृष्टं भस्मापि न क्वचित् । न लङ्घयति कैलासं यावदुल्लसितोऽनलः ॥ ५९ ॥
jñasyevāṅga na doṣāṇāṃ dṛṣṭaṃ bhasmāpi na kvacit | na laṅghayati kailāsaṃ yāvadullasito'nalaḥ || 59 ||
Just as the body of the knower is not seen to be ashes anywhere, the fire does not cross Kailasa as long as it is blazing.
जैसे ज्ञानी का शरीर कहीं भी भस्म नहीं दिखता, वैसे ही आग तब तक कैलास को नहीं पार करती जब तक वह जल रही होती है।
तावत्तं कल्पकुपितो रुद्रो नेत्राग्निनादहत् । दाहस्फुटद्द्रुमस्थूलशिलाचटचटारवाः ॥ ६० ॥
tāvattāṃ kalpakupito rudro netrāgninādahat | dāhasphuṭaddrumasthūlaśilācaṭacaṭāravāḥ || 60 ||
Until then, the angry Rudra burned him with the fire of his eyes, causing the thick trees and rocks to burst and crackle with the sound of burning.
तब तक, क्रोधित रुद्र ने अपनी आँखों की आग से उसे जला दिया, जिससे मोटे पेड़ और पत्थर जलकर फूटने और चटचटाने की आवाज करने लगे।
लकुटोपललोष्टौघैरयुध्यन्तेव भूभृतः । ज्वालाघनघटाटोपसावतंसचलान्तिमाः ॥ ६१ ॥
lakuṭopalaloṣṭaughairayudhyanteva bhūbhṛtaḥ | jvālāghanaghaṭāṭopasāvataṃsacalāntimāḥ || 61 ||
The kings fought as if with stones and clods of earth | The ends of their turbans fluttered like the flames of a burning ghat
राजा पत्थरों और मिट्टी के ढेलों के समान लड़ रहे थे | उनकी पगड़ियों के सिरे जलते घाट की लपटों की तरह लहरा रहे थे
बभूवुर्व्योमविकसत्स्थूलपद्मवना इव । सर्गः कदाचिदेवासीदित्यगात्स्मरणीयताम् ॥ ६२ ॥
babhūvurvyomavikasatsthūlapadmavanā iva | sargaḥ kadācidevāsīdityagātsmaraṇīyatām || 62 ||
They became like large lotuses blooming in the sky | Thus, the creation once existed, and it went into memory
वे आकाश में खिले बड़े कमलों की तरह हो गए | इस प्रकार, सृष्टि एक बार अस्तित्व में आई, और फिर स्मृति में चली गई
कल्पान्तः स्मारयन्मूर्खानगादस्मरणीयताम् । तापोपतापपरमाः परमारणतत्पराः । वह्नयोऽपह्नवं चक्रुर्जगतामसतामिव ॥ ६३ ॥
kalpāntaḥ smārayanmūrkhānagādasmaraṇīyatām | tāpopatāpaparamāḥ paramāraṇatatparāḥ | vahnayo'pahnavaṃ cakrurjagatāmasatāmiva || 63 ||
The end of the eon reminds the foolish of their forgetfulness | Those who are supremely afflicted by heat and suffering are intent on ultimate destruction | The fires concealed the world as if it were non-existent
कल्प का अंत मूर्खों को उनकी भूल याद दिलाता है | जो गर्मी और पीड़ा से अत्यधिक पीड़ित हैं, वे अंतिम विनाश पर ध्यान केंद्रित करते हैं | आग ने संसार को अस्तित्वहीन की तरह छिपा दिया

vavur aśaninipātapīḍitāṅgāḥ kacadanalolmukagulmamaṇḍalābhāḥ | pralayasamayavāyavo'nalāntād daladamarāvalayo laye lihantaḥ || 64 ||
They blew, their bodies afflicted by the impact of thunderbolts, resembling clusters of burning embers | The winds of destruction, ending in fire, licked the edges of the clouds in dissolution
वे फूँक रहे थे, उनके शरीर वज्रपात की पीड़ा से पीड़ित थे, जलती अंगारों के झुंड की तरह | विनाश के समय की हवाएँ, आग में समाप्त होती हुई, विलीन होते बादलों के किनारों को चाट रही थीं

With the intense heat produced from the bursting flames in the forest of burning trees, the dark ashes rose like clouds | The winds blew swiftly, resembling the radiant embers, with the dark flames flickering in the middle of the collapsing fire peaks
