श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | इत्युक्त्वा भगवान्ब्रह्मा ब्रह्मलोकजनैः सह | बद्धपद्मासनोऽनन्तसमाधानगतोऽभवत् || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | ityuktvā bhagavānbrahmā brahmalokajanaiḥ saha | baddhapadmāsano'nantsamādhānagato'bhavat || 1 ||

English

Sri Vasistha said: Having said this, Lord Brahma, along with the inhabitants of Brahmaloka, sat in the lotus posture and entered into eternal meditation.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: ऐसा कहकर, भगवान ब्रह्मा, ब्रह्मलोक के निवासियों के साथ, पद्मासन में बैठे और अनन्त समाधि में चले गए।

ओंकारार्धोऽर्धमात्रान्तः शान्तनिःशेषमानसः | लिपिकर्मार्पिताकार आसीदाशान्तवेदनः || २ ||

oṃkārārdho'rdhamātrāntaḥ śāntaniḥśeṣamānasaḥ | lipikarmārpitākāra āsīdāśāntavedanaḥ || 2 ||

English

Having the syllable 'Om' as half and ending with half a measure, he became calm and without any mental activity. His form was dedicated to the act of writing, and he became one who experiences the tranquil Vedas.

हिन्दी

ओंकार का आधा और आधे मात्रा के अंत में, वह शांत और मन की कोई गतिविधि के बिना हो गया। उसका रूप लिखने के कार्य को समर्पित था, और वह शांत वेदों का अनुभव करने वाला बन गया।

तमेवानुसरन्ती सा तथैव ध्यानगा सती | वासनासीदशेषांशा शान्ता चाकाशरूपिणी || ३ ||

tamevānusarantī sā tathaiva dhyānagā satī | vāsanāsīdaśeṣāṃśā śāntā cākāśarūpiṇī || 3 ||

English

Following him, she also became absorbed in meditation. Being in that state, she became calm and without any desires, taking the form of the sky.

हिन्दी

उसका अनुसरण करते हुए, वह भी ध्यान में डूब गई। उस अवस्था में रहते हुए, वह शांत और बिना किसी इच्छा के हो गई, आकाश का रूप लेकर।

परमेष्ठिन्यसंकल्पे तस्मिंस्तानवमेयुषि | सर्वगानन्तचिद्व्योमरूपोऽपश्यमहं यदा || ४ ||

parameṣṭhinyasaṃkalpe tasmintānavameyuṣi | sarvagānantacidvyomarūpo'paśyamahaṃ yadā || 4 ||

English

When the supreme lord's resolve was thus unknowable, I saw him as the all-pervading, infinite consciousness, the form of the vast sky.

जब परमेश्वर का संकल्प अज्ञेय था, तब मैंने उन्हें सर्वव्यापी, अनंत चेतना, विशाल आकाश के रूप में देखा।

यावत्संकल्पनं तस्य विरसीभवति क्षणात् | तथैवाशु तथैवोर्व्याः साद्रिद्वीपपयोनिधेः || ५ ||

yāvatsaṃkalpanaṃ tasya virasībhavati kṣaṇāt | tathaivāśu tathaivorvyāḥ sādridvīpapayonidheḥ || 5 ||

English

As soon as his resolve becomes tasteless, the earth with its mountains, islands, and oceans also becomes tasteless.

हिन्दी

जैसे ही उसका संकल्प निरास हो जाता है, पृथ्वी अपने पर्वतों, द्वीपों और समुद्रों के साथ भी निरास हो जाती है।

तृणगुल्मलताशालिसमुद्भवनशक्तता | समस्तैवास्तमागन्तुमारब्धा च शनैःशनैः || ६ ||

tṛṇagulmalatāśālisamudbhavanaśaktatā | samastaivāstamāgantumārabdhā ca śanaiḥśanaiḥ || 6 ||

English

The power of the grass, bushes, and creepers to grow has begun to diminish gradually.

हिन्दी

घास, झाड़ियों और लताओं की उगने की शक्ति धीरे-धीरे कम होने लगी है।

किल तस्य विराडात्मरूपस्याङ्गैकदेशताम् | सा बिभर्ति मही तेन तदसंवेदनोदयात् || ७ ||

kila tasya virāḍātmrūpasyāṅgaikadeśatām | sā bibharti mahī tena tadasaṃvedanodayāt || 7 ||

English

Indeed, that form of the universal self bears the earth, which has become insensible due to the rise of ignorance.

हिन्दी

वास्तव में, वह विराट् आत्मा का रूप पृथ्वी को धारण करता है, जो अज्ञान के उदय के कारण असंवेदनशील हो गई है।

विचेतना सा विरसा बभूव परिजर्जरा | मार्गशीर्षान्तवल्लीव जराविधुरतां गता || ८ ||

vicetanā sā virasā babhūva parijarjarā | mārgaśīrṣāntavallīva jarāvidhuratāṃ gatā || 8 ||

English

That insensible earth became tasteless and withered, like a vine at the end of the Margashirsha month, having fallen into decay.

हिन्दी

वह असंवेदनशील पृथ्वी निरास और सूखी हो गई, मानो मार्गशीर्ष महीने के अंत में की लता, जो जरावस्था में चली गई है।

यथास्माकमसंवित्तेरङ्गाली विरसा भवेत् | तथा विरिंचिसंवित्तैर्धरा वैधुर्यमागता || ९ ||

yathāsmākamasavittērāṅgālī virasā bhavēt | tathā viriṃcisaṃvittairdharā vaidhuryamāgatā || 9 ||

English

Just as our limbs become tasteless due to lack of consciousness, so too the earth has become impure due to the consciousness of Brahma.

हिन्दी

जैसे हमारे अंग असंवेदनशीलता के कारण निरास हो जाते हैं, वैसे ही ब्रह्मा की चेतना के कारण पृथ्वी अशुद्ध हो गई है।

संपन्ना संहतानेकमहोत्पातभरावृता | दुष्कृताङ्गारनिर्दग्धनरकोन्मुखमानवा || १० ||

saṃpannā saṃhatānēkamahōtpātabharāvṛtā | duṣkṛtāṅgāranirdagdhanarakōnmukhamānavā || 10 ||

English

The earth is filled with various great calamities, and people are facing the fires of sin, heading towards hell.

हिन्दी

पृथ्वी विभिन्न बड़े आपदाओं से भरी हुई है, और लोग पाप की आग का सामना कर रहे हैं, नरक की ओर बढ़ रहे हैं।

दुर्भिक्षाकाण्डदौस्थित्यदैन्यदारिद्र्यदुर्भगा | दुःशीलाशेषवनिता निर्मर्यादनरावृता || ११ ||

durbhikṣākāṇḍadousthityadainyadāridryadurbhagā | duḥśīlāśeṣavanitā nirmaryādanarāvṛtā || 11 ||

English

The land is afflicted with famine, distress, poverty, and misfortune. All women are of bad character, and the land is filled with lawless men.

यह भूमि अकाल, दुःख, गरीबी और दुर्भाग्य से पीड़ित है। सभी स्त्रियाँ बुरे चरित्र की हैं, और यह भूमि अनैतिक पुरुषों से भरी हुई है।

पांसुप्रमन्दनीहारधूलिधूसरसूर्यका | द्वन्द्विमूर्खमहादुःखिव्यसनिव्याधिताकुला || १२ ||

pāṃsupramandanīhāradhūlidhūsarasūryakā | dvandvimūrkhamahāduḥkhivyasanivyādhitākulā || 12 ||

English

The land is covered with dust, and the sun is pale. It is filled with foolish, greatly suffering, addicted, and diseased people.

हिन्दी

यह भूमि धूल से ढकी हुई है, और सूर्य फीका है। यह मूर्ख, बहुत दुःखी, लती और रोगी लोगों से भरी हुई है।

अग्निदाहजलापूरयुद्धप्रोच्छिन्नमण्डला | अवृष्ट्यवग्रहोन्नष्टकष्टचेष्टितपामरा || १३ ||

agnidāhajalāpūrayuddhaprocchinnamaṇḍalā | avṛṣṭyavagrahonnaṣṭakaṣṭaceṣṭitapāmarā || 13 ||

English

The land is burned by fire and flooded with water. It is destroyed by war, lack of rain, and the influence of planets. The people are distressed and their efforts are in vain.

हिन्दी

यह भूमि आग से जली हुई और पानी से भरी हुई है। यह युद्ध, वर्षा की कमी, और ग्रहों के प्रभाव से नष्ट हो गई है। लोग परेशान हैं और उनके प्रयास व्यर्थ हैं।

अशङ्कितमहोत्पातपतत्पर्वतपत्तना | शिशुश्रोत्रियमुन्यार्यगुणिनाशरुदज्जना || १४ ||

aśaṅkitamahotpātapatatparvatapattanā | śiśuśrotriyamunyāryaguṇināśarudajjanā || 14 ||

English

The land is struck by unexpected calamities, falling mountains, and the destruction of cities. Children, scholars, sages, noble men, and virtuous people are crying.

हिन्दी

यह भूमि अप्रत्याशित आपदाओं, गिरते पर्वतों, और नगरों के विनाश से घिरी हुई है। बच्चे, विद्वान, ऋषि, आर्य, और गुणवान लोग रो रहे हैं।

अशङ्कितस्थलीमध्यसंजातागाधकूपका | वर्णसंकरनारीणामासक्तजनभूमिपा || १५ ||

aśaṅkitasthalīmadhyasaṃjātāgādhakūpakā | varṇasaṃkaranārīṇāmāsaktjanabhūmipā || 15 ||

English

The land is filled with unexpected deep wells in the middle of the ground. The kings are attached to women of mixed castes.

हिन्दी

यह भूमि अप्रत्याशित गहरे कुएँ से भरी हुई है जो जमीन के बीच में हैं। राजा मिश्रित जाति की स्त्रियों से आसक्त हैं।

अट्टशूलाखिलजना शिवशूलचतुष्पथा | केशैकशूलवनिता पात्रशूलजनेश्वरा || १६ ||

aṭṭaśūlākhilajanā śivaśūlacatuṣpathā | keśaikaśūlavanitā pātraśūlajaneśvarā || 16 ||

English

All people are pierced by the spear of sorrow, the crossroads are pierced by the spear of Shiva, the woman with a single spear of hair is the lord of the people with the spear of the vessel.

हिन्दी

सभी लोग दुःख के भाले से छेदे हुए हैं, चौराहे शिव के भाले से छेदे हुए हैं, एक बाल की भाला वाली स्त्री पात्र भाले वाले लोगों की स्वामिनी है।

दुःखशूलसमाचारा द्वन्द्वशूलाखिलप्रजा | अधर्मशूलवनिता पानशूलजनेश्वरा || १७ ||

duḥkhaśūlasamācārā dvandvaśūlākhilaprajā | adharmaśūlavanitā pānaśūlajaneśvarā || 17 ||

English

The news of the spear of sorrow, all people are pierced by the spear of duality, the woman with the spear of unrighteousness is the lord of the people with the spear of drinking.

हिन्दी

दुःख के भाले की खबर, सभी लोग द्वैत के भाले से छेदे हुए हैं, अधर्म की भाला वाली स्त्री पीने के भाले वाले लोगों की स्वामिनी है।

अधर्मशूलवलिता कुशास्त्रशतशूलिनी | दुर्जनाखिलवित्ताढ्या विपद्विहतसज्जना || १८ ||

adharmaśūlavalitā kuśāstrśataśūlinī | durjanākhilavittāḍhyā vipadvihatasajjanā || 18 ||

English

Surrounded by the spear of unrighteousness, possessing a hundred bad weapons, wealthy with all the riches of evil people, good people are afflicted by calamities.

हिन्दी

अधर्म के भाले से घिरी हुई, सौ बुरे अस्त्रों वाली, सभी बुरे लोगों के धन से समृद्ध, अच्छे लोग आपदाओं से पीड़ित हैं।

अनार्यवसुधापाला तदनादृतपण्डिता | लोभमोहभयद्वेषरागरोगरजोरता || १९ ||

anāryavasudhāpālā tadanādṛtapaṇḍitā | lobhamohabhayadveṣarāgarogarajoratā || 19 ||

English

The protector of the non-Aryan earth, disrespected by scholars, engrossed in greed, delusion, fear, hatred, passion, disease, and dust.

हिन्दी

अनार्य पृथ्वी का रक्षक, विद्वानों द्वारा अवमानित, लोभ, मोह, भय, द्वेष, राग, रोग और धूल में डूबा हुआ।

अप्यन्यगामिपुरुषा रुषाभिहतसद्विजा | अनारतपराक्रन्दपरापर्यन्तपामरा || २० ||

apyanyagāmipuruṣā ruṣābhihatasadvijā | anārataparākrandaparāparyantapāmarā || 20 ||

English

Even other men going elsewhere, noble scholars struck by anger, constantly crying out, reaching the ultimate state of ignorance.

दूसरे लोग दूसरी ओर जा रहे हैं, क्रोध से घायल सज्जन विद्वान, निरंतर चीख रहे हैं, अज्ञान की पराकाष्ठा तक पहुंच गए हैं।

दस्यूत्सन्नपुरग्रामदेवद्विजसमाश्रया | आपातमधुरारम्भदुःखदोदरभङ्गुरा || २१ ||

dasyūtsannapuragrāmadevadvijasamāśrayā | āpātamadhurārambhaduḥkhadodarabhaṅgurā || 21 ||

English

The cities and villages are destroyed by thieves, and the gods and Brahmins are deprived of their shelters. The beginning seems sweet but ends in sorrow, causing the belly to burst with pain.

हिन्दी

चोरों द्वारा नगर और ग्राम नष्ट हो गए हैं, और देवता और ब्राह्मण अपने आश्रय से वंचित हैं। आरम्भ में मीठा लगता है पर दुःख में समाप्त होता है, जिससे पेट फटने लगता है।

आलस्योल्लासविलसत्कार्यवैधुर्यधर्मिणी | सर्वापदुपतापान्ता क्रमेणोत्सन्नदिग्गणा || २२ ||

ālasyollāsavilasatkāryavaidhuryadharminī | sarvāpadupatāpāntā kramenotsannadiggṇā || 22 ||

English

Laziness leads to the destruction of all tasks, resulting in the end of all calamities and sorrows. Gradually, all directions become deserted.

आलस्य सभी कार्यों के विनाश का कारण बनता है, जिससे सभी आपदाओं और दुःखों का अंत हो जाता है। धीरे-धीरे, सभी दिशाएँ सूनी हो जाती हैं।

भस्मशेषपुरग्रामा निर्जनाखिलमण्डला | रोरूयमाणभस्माभ्रकुण्डलोड्डामराम्वरा || २३ ||

bhasmaśeṣapuragrāmā nirjanākhilamaṇḍalā | rorūyamāṇabhasmābhrakuṇḍaloḍḍāmarāmvarā || 23 ||

English

The cities and villages are reduced to ashes, and the entire region is deserted. The ashes form clouds that resemble ornaments, and the land is filled with lamentations.

नगर और ग्राम राख में बदल गए हैं, और पूरा क्षेत्र सूना है। राख के बादल आभूषणों की तरह दिखते हैं, और भूमि रोने की आवाजों से भरी है।

दुर्भगाडम्बरारम्भरोदनोरुरवोदरी | मुष्टिप्रमाणजनता जनतापानुषङ्गिणी || २४ ||

durbhagāḍambarārambharodanoururavodarī | muṣṭipramāṇajanatā janatāpānuṣaṅgiṇī || 24 ||

English

The miserable people begin to wail loudly, and the population is reduced to a fistful. The people are accompanied by sorrow.

दुःखी लोग जोर से रोने लगते हैं, और जनसंख्या मुट्ठी भर रह जाती है। लोग दुःख के साथ रहते हैं।

नीरसाशेषदेशान्ता सर्वर्तुगुणवर्जिता | इत्यस्य पार्थिवे धातौ ब्रह्मणो गतवेदने || २५ ||

nīrasāśeṣadeśāntā sarvartuguṇavarjitā | ityasya pārthive dhātau brahmaṇo gatavedane || 25 ||

English

The land is devoid of all tastes and qualities, and all regions are destroyed. Thus, in this earthly realm, Brahma's knowledge is lost.

भूमि सभी स्वाद और गुणों से रहित है, और सभी क्षेत्र नष्ट हो गए हैं। इस प्रकार, इस धरती पर, ब्रह्मा का ज्ञान खो गया है।

पृथिवी पृथुवैधुर्या संपन्नासन्ननाशतः अथ तत्संविदुन्मुक्तो जलधातुः क्षयोन्मुखः || २६ ||

pṛthivī pṛthuvaiḍhuryā saṃpannāsannanāśataḥ ath tatsaṃvidunmukto jaladhātuḥ kṣayonmukhaḥ || 26 ||

English

When the Earth, endowed with great beauty, was on the verge of destruction, then the water element, released from its bonds, began to diminish.

हिन्दी

जब पृथ्वी, जो बहुत सुंदर है, नष्ट होने के कगार पर थी, तब जल तत्व, जो अपने बंधनों से मुक्त हो गया था, घटना शुरू हो गई।

यदा विक्षुभितात्मासीत्तदा नियत्तिलङ्घनात् समुत्सार्यार्यमर्यादामर्णवा विवृतार्णसः || २७ ||

yadā vikṣubhitātmāsīttadā niyattilaṅghanāt samutsāryāryamaryādāmārṇavā vivṛtārṇasaḥ || 27 ||

English

When the mind was disturbed, then the oceans, transgressing their boundaries, began to overflow, disregarding the noble limits.

हिन्दी

जब मन विक्षुभित हो गया, तब समुद्र, अपनी सीमाओं का उल्लंघन करते हुए, उत्तेजित हो गए, उत्कृष्ट सीमाओं को अनदेखा करते हुए।

प्रवृत्ता विकृतिं गन्तुमुन्मत्ता इव राविणः वीचिविक्षोभविन्यासैर्वेलाविपिनलावकाः || २८ ||

pravṛttā vikṛtiṃ gantumunmattā iva rāviṇaḥ vīcivikṣobhavinyāsairvelāvipinalāvakāḥ || 28 ||

English

The waves, agitated by the disturbance, began to move like mad elephants, with their crests and troughs forming a chaotic pattern.

हिन्दी

लहरें, विक्षुभित होने के कारण, पागल हाथियों की तरह चलने लगीं, उनके शिखर और गर्त एक अराजक पैटर्न बना रहे थे।

कल्लोलवलनावर्तविवर्तोद्वर्तिताश्रयाः महाभ्रभ्रमदुत्तुङ्गतरङ्गात्तनभोदिशः || २९ ||

kallolavalanāvartavivartodvartitāśrayāḥ mahābhra bhramaduttuṅgatarangāttanabhodiśaḥ || 29 ||

English

The waves, with their swirling and churning, were lifted up high, reaching the sky, and spread out in all directions.

बृहद्गुलुगुलावर्तगर्जनोद्द्रवकन्दराः सीकरौघमहारम्भघनसंवलिताचलाः || ३० ||

bṛhadgulugulāvartagarjanoddravakandarāḥ sīkaraughamahārambhaghanasaṃvalitācalāḥ || 30 ||

English

The waves, with their loud roaring and swirling, were like mountains, covered with dense clouds and showers.

चलच्चलचलद्वीरमकराघूर्णितान्तराः | उल्लसन्मकराक्रान्तद्रुमकाननितोदराः || ३१ ||

calaccalacaladvīramakarāghūrṇitāntarāḥ | ullasanmakarākrāntadrumakānanitodarāḥ || 31 ||

English

The waves are moving and shaking the doors, and the crocodiles are churning inside. The forests on the shores are being uprooted by the crocodiles, and the waves are shining with jewels.

लहरें दरवाजे को हिला रही हैं और मगरमच्छ अंदर घूम रहे हैं। तट पर जंगल मगरमच्छों द्वारा उखाड़े जा रहे हैं, और लहरें रत्नों से चमक रही हैं।

दरीविदारणभ्रष्टसिंहाहतजलेचराः | ऊर्म्युदस्तमहारत्नभरतारकिताम्बराः || ३२ ||

darīvidāraṇabhraṣṭasiṃhāhatajalecarāḥ | ūrmyudastamahāratnabharatārakitāmbarāḥ || 32 ||

English

The lions are being hit by the waves and are falling from the broken caves. The waves are throwing out large jewels, and the sky is adorned with stars.

हिन्दी

लहरों से सिंह मारे जा रहे हैं और टूटी गुफाओं से गिर रहे हैं। लहरें बड़े रत्न फेंक रही हैं, और आकाश तारों से सजा हुआ है।

उत्फालमकरच्छन्ननभश्चरबृहद्धनाः | परस्परोर्मिसंघट्टभांकारकटुटांकृताः || ३३ ||

utphālamakaracchannanabhaścarabṛhaddhanāḥ | parasparormisaṃghaṭṭabhāṃkārakaṭuṭāṃkṛtāḥ || 33 ||

English

The sky is covered with jumping crocodiles and large moving objects. The waves are colliding with each other, making a loud noise.

हिन्दी

आकाश उछलते मगरमच्छों और बड़े चलते वस्तुओं से ढका हुआ है। लहरें एक-दूसरे से टकरा रही हैं, जो एक जोरदार आवाज बना रही हैं।

तरत्तरलमातङ्गफूत्कारा धौतभास्कराः | अन्योन्यवेल्लनव्यग्रप्रविदीर्णाद्रिभित्तयः || ३४ ||

tarattaralamātaṅgaphūtkārā dhautabhāskarāḥ | anyonyavellanavyagrapravadīrṇādrabhittayaḥ || 34 ||

English

The elephants are trumpeting loudly, and the sun is shining brightly. The mountains are being shaken and split by the waves.

हिन्दी

हाथी जोर से चिंघाड़ रहे हैं, और सूर्य चमक रहा है। लहरें पहाड़ों को हिला रही हैं और उन्हें तोड़ रही हैं।

तटपर्वतलुण्टाकतरङ्गकरमण्डलाः | गर्जद्गिरिदरीगेहविशदुन्मत्तवारयः || ३५ ||

taṭaparvataluṇṭākataraṅgakaramaṇḍalāḥ | garjadgiridarīgehaviśadunmattavārayaḥ || 35 ||

English

The waves are breaking against the mountain peaks, and the caves are roaring loudly. The mad elephants are being driven away.

हिन्दी

लहरें पहाड़ी चोटियों से टकरा रही हैं, और गुफाएँ जोर से गर्जना कर रही हैं। पागल हाथी भगा दिए जा रहे हैं।

भूपाः परपुराक्रान्ता लग्ना इव हतारयः| तारारवरणद्गेहविद्रावितनभश्चराः || ३६ ||

bhūpāḥ parapurākrāntā lagnā iva hatārayaḥ| tārāravaraṇadgehavidrāvitanabhaścarāḥ || 36 ||

English

Kings who have conquered enemy cities, as if they have defeated their enemies, and whose sky-dwellers (stars) have been driven away from their star-covered homes.

हिन्दी

जो राजा शत्रु नगरों पर विजय प्राप्त कर चुके हैं, मानो उन्होंने अपने शत्रुओं को हरा दिया हो, और जिनके तारों से ढके घरों से आकाश के निवासी (तारे) भगा दिए गए हों।

प्रलुण्ठितवनव्यूहलूनकाननिताम्बराः| सपक्षपर्वताकारतरङ्गापूरिताम्बराः || ३७ ||

praluṇṭhitavanavyūhalūnakānanitāmbarāḥ| sapakṣaparvatākārataraṅgāpūritāmbarāḥ || 37 ||

English

Those whose forest formations have been plundered, with the sky filled with the sound of lamenting forests, and whose sky is filled with waves resembling mountains with wings.

हिन्दी

जिनकी वन व्यूह रचनाएँ लूट ली गई हैं, आकाश विलाप करते वनों की आवाज से भरा हुआ है, और जिनका आकाश पंखों वाले पर्वतों जैसी लहरों से भरा हुआ है।
