The entire universe is of the nature of the unknowable and the knowable. It is of the nature of the supreme space and rests in the ultimate tranquility.

English

One who enjoys the poison of worldly pleasures day by day| That person, when their own form is burning in the fire, leaves the eternal abode

English

The scriptures say that the state of desirelessness is the highest attainment| Just as the mind becomes calm without desires, it cannot be achieved by hundreds of teachings

English

Desire itself is the worldly existence; liberation is the absence of desire. Why not make an effort to prevent the arising of desire rather than wandering aimlessly?

34

śāstropadeśaguravaḥ prekṣyante kimanarthakam | kimicchānanusandhānasamādhirnādhigamyate || 34 ||

English

Why are the scriptures, teachings, and gurus considered useless? Is the concentration on the pursuit of desire not attainable?

niricchatāiva nirvāṇaṃ secchatāiva hi bandhanam | yathāśakti jayedicchāṃ kimetāvati duṣkaram || 38 ||

English

Desirelessness is liberation, and desire is bondage. Conquer desire to the best of your ability; what is so difficult in this?

jarāmaraṇajanmādi karañjakhadirāvaleḥ | bījamicchā sadaivāntardahyatāṃ śamavahninā || 39 ||

English

The seed of old age, death, and birth is desire. Let it be burned by the fire of peace within.

yato yataśca secchatvaṃ bandhapāśāstatastataḥ| puṇyapāpamayā duḥkharāśayo vitatārtayaḥ || 41 ||

English

From wherever there is desire, from there arise the bonds of attachment. These bonds, made of virtue and vice, are the causes of suffering and are spread out like a net.

icchānirāsarahite gate sādhoḥ kṣaṇe'pi ca| dasyubhirmuṣitasyeva yuktamākrandituṃ ciram || 42 ||

English

Even for a moment, when the desire is not completely eradicated in a virtuous person, it is appropriate to lament for a long time, like one robbed by thieves.

English

As the inner desires of a person are gradually pacified, so does their well-being increase for the sake of liberation.

ātmano nirvivekasya yadicchāparipūraṇaṃ| saṃsāravirṣavṛkṣasya tadeva pariṣecanam || 44 ||

English

The fulfillment of desires of a person lacking discrimination is the very nourishment of the poisonous tree of worldly existence.

45

English

The seeds of one's own happiness and sorrow, born from the tree of the heart, arising from enmity and other negative emotions, and from good and bad deeds, taking the form of sharp, evil-doing thorns, destroy the person like a beast, saying 'desires, be pacified, be pacified.'
