Whatever exists in whatever form, wherever, in whatever manner, to whatever extent, and whenever, it exists in that form, in that manner, to that extent, and at that time.
Brahman is auspicious, peaceful, unborn, silent, non-silent, ageless, pervading, perfectly void, not void, non-existent, without beginning or end, and eternal.
Therefore, this entire peaceful space of consciousness is beginningless, endless, and indivisible. Remain as you are, free from the bonds of caste and liberated from all afflictions.
The perceived is indeed the supreme Brahman, and the supreme Brahman is indeed the perceived. This is neither peaceful nor restless, neither manifold nor formless.
Just as in the state of awakening, the dream body is formless, so too the Self, which is pure consciousness, is formless, even though it is experienced as having form.
From the state of inertness, consciousness moves to the state of mobility. The living being, which is in the state of deep sleep, experiences dreams and waking states.
In the beginning of creation, what appeared first was like a dream. The form of consciousness is called the universe, and it is said to be the same in the end.
sthita eko hyanādyantaḥ paramārthaghano yataḥ | pralayasthitisargāṇāṃ na nāmāpyasti māṃ prati || 23 ||
Established as one, indeed without beginning or end, dense with ultimate reality | There is no name even for dissolution, stability, and creation with respect to me || 23 ||
Just as the picture does not differ from the painting, similarly, the various manifestations in the reality of consciousness are not different || 25 ||
Even without division, this part, due to the sleep of consciousness and wealth, is liberated from deep sleep; this dream is indeed the form of the mind.
Sri Rama said: The mind, the self of gods, demons, etc., the sleep of consciousness, the vision of the self—how extensive is it, O Lord? How does the universe exist within it?
Sri Vasistha said: Know that the mind is the human, the god, the demon, the immovable, the woman, the serpent, the mountain, the ghost, the bird, the insect, and the demon.
Know that the extent of the mind is infinite, where it becomes as minute as a particle of dust. It pervades the universe from Brahma to a blade of grass, thousands of times over.
asya tvātmapariñānādeṣa dehādisaṃbhraṃaḥ | śāmyatyāśvavabodhena maruvāḥpratyayo yathā || 37 ||
This confusion about the body and other things is calmed by the knowledge of the self, just as the illusion of a mirage is dispelled by the knowledge of water.
This collection of objects is consciousness itself. There is no objectivity apart from it, just as there is no separate existence of a bracelet apart from gold in a dream.
Just as water in the ocean appears distinct in one place but is everywhere, so too the eternal consciousness, which is non-different from Brahman, appears as the perceptible world.
Just as the sky is the unchanging support of the ever-changing world, so too the eternal consciousness is the unchanging support of all things, devoid of beginning and end.
Just as this world is established in the sky of consciousness, so too it appears peaceful, having abandoned its own nature, like everything in a dream.
svapnasankalpasamsāravaraśāpadrśāmiha | sarobdhisaridambūnāmivānyatvaṃ na vāthavā || 46 ||
In this world, the perceptions of dreams, intentions, worldly existence, boons, and curses are like the waves of the ocean and rivers; they are not different or they are different.
Sri Vasistha said: The world is said to be like a reflection in the space of consciousness. Just as the waves move in the ocean of water, so do the phenomena in the space of consciousness.
Just as the sounds of the ocean waves are heard, so do the phenomena in the space of consciousness appear. The wise call these phenomena by names such as intentions and so forth.
The intellect of one who is endowed with true knowledge and sees the reality as it is, becomes of the nature of pure consciousness, devoid of duality and unity.
Free from all obstructions, consisting of pure knowledge, in the form of pure consciousness, Brahman, consisting solely of the light of awareness, devoid of body and non-body.
anirāvaraṇajñapteryataḥ śāntā na bhedadhīḥ tataḥ saṃkalpanādvaitādvarādyasya na siddhyati || 59 ||
Due to the unobstructed knowledge, there is no distinction of thought, and thus, from the non-dual imagination, blessings and other creations do not manifest.
In the liberated state of Brahman's parts, in the duality and unity, and in the stable state, just as in the reality with parts, there is a varied sequence of parts.
Sri Rama said: Due to ignorance without obstruction, those who follow only dharma give curses and other things. Explain how this is similar to Brahman.
The self-luminous, unsupported, and unattached Self shines in the sky like a hair's tip that is difficult to see and like a visible pearl necklace.
By the Self, the created beings, dharma, charity, austerity, qualities, the Vedas, scriptures, elements, and the five kinds of knowledge are all imagined.
This consciousness, the Brahman, is the opening, the sky, the wind, the fire, the heat, the liquid, the water, the solid, and the earth, all of which are imagined by the Self.
I am Brahman, the soul of the universe, and the universe is the body of Brahman. There is no difference between Brahman and the universe, just as there is no difference between space and emptiness.
The existence of the body is experienced in various forms. The inert existence of a stone and other such things is similar to that of the Supreme Self.
aṅguṣṭhasyāthavāṅgulayā vātādyasparśane sati | yo'nyacittasyānubhavo dṛṣadādau sa ātmanaḥ || 87 ||
Just as the touch of wind or other elements on the thumb or finger is experienced by another's mind, so is the experience of the self in the stone, etc.
Just as the reflection of light, thought, experience, desire, and liberation appear in the self, so do the cycles of creation and dissolution appear in the supreme tranquility.
