Śrīvasiṣṭha said: Thus, devoid of earth and other elements, the first creator is only space. I consider the mind to be mere thought, like a wish-fulfilling tree.
How can there be intellect and other faculties in that which is mere existence? In the absence of earth and other elements, what is the dust of the infinite space?
It is to be remembered that there is no worldly memory due to the influence of emotions | The purpose of memory is something else, O true self, listen to this || 16 ||
Thus indeed, this Brahman is the supreme and immovable | Since it is without beginning, middle, or end, how can memory and other things arise from it || 18 ||
That which is the essence of all selves, without any object, the peaceful expanse of consciousness | Even in worldly transactions, it is sufficient and tranquil, described by me through memory || 19 ||
Whatever shines in the form of truth, as a part of the universal self, is called memory by the wise due to its similarity to practiced meanings.
hetau labdhe’pyalabdhe vā pavanaspandavadvidaḥ| tā evābhyāsarūḍhārthāḥ sādṛśyātsmṛtayaḥ kṛtāḥ|| 26 ||
Whether the cause is found or not, the wise know it to be like the movement of the wind. Those very meanings, established through practice, are made similar to memories.
Why should the illusion of the object of memory be considered? For the wise, there is no memory of the perceivable due to its impossibility in reality.
sa tathaikaghanatvācca cidvyomatvājjagatsthiteḥ| yathāsthitamidaṃ dṛśyamastyevājñasya saṃprati|| 30 ||
That is thus, due to its singular density and the nature of consciousness as the sky. This perceivable exists as it is, even for the ignorant, at present.
How can the experience of night occur in the sun? Tell me | Whatever appears is the essence of the object, in pure consciousness, even a little || 34 ||
That is remembered due to the similarity of the intended meaning | Even of those who are by nature self-existent, in the form of the sky of consciousness || 35 ||
वह उसके अर्थ की समानता के कारण याद किया जाता है | Even of those who are by nature self-existent, in the form of the sky of consciousness || ३५ ||
The supreme consciousness itself is the various forms of creation situated in the self. This consciousness appears thus, not deviating from its true nature.
In the beginning and during dreams, from where does the creation of the earth and other elements arise? It arises from the very form of the universe, which is the essence of Brahman.
karoti pṛthvyādyabhidhāḥ paścātsatyārthadā iva | na smṛtyātma na sākāraṃ pṛthvyādīnāmasaṃbhavaāt | na bhrāntirna vivartādi jagadbrahmātma kevalam || 47 ||
It creates the designations of the earth and other elements, which later appear as if they are real. There is no memory, no form, no illusion, no transformation; the world is solely the essence of Brahman.
Brahman manifests this beautiful universe, which is one and the same, existing in both manifested and unmanifested forms. The pure, tranquil sky, though appearing as visible, is eternal and arises from the cycle of creation and dissolution.
