śrīrāma uvāca | anantaraṃ muniśreṣṭha kurvantaḥ kiṃ vipaścitaḥ | āsaṃsteṣu diganteṣu sadvīpābdhivanādriṣu || 1 ||
Sri Rama said: O best of sages, what did the wise ones do next? They lived in the directions, islands, oceans, forests, and mountains.
श्रीराम ने कहा: हे मुनिश्रेष्ठ, विद्वानों ने तत्पश्चात क्या किया? वे दिशाओं, द्वीपों, समुद्रों, वनों और पर्वतों में रहे।
श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | श्रृणु किंवृत्तमेतेषां तात तत्र विपश्चिताम् | तालीतमालमालाढ्यद्वीपाद्रिवनचारिणाम् || २ ||
śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | śrṇu kiṃvṛttameteṣāṃ tāta tatra vipaścitām | tālītamālamālāḍhyadvīpādrvivana-cāriṇām || 2 ||
Sri Vasistha said: Listen, O dear one, to the actions of those wise ones who dwelled in the islands, mountains, and forests adorned with Tali and Mala trees.
श्रीवसिष्ठ ने कहा: सुनो, हे प्रिय, उन विद्वानों के कार्यों को जो ताली और माला वृक्षों से सुशोभित द्वीपों, पर्वतों और वनों में रहते थे।
क्रौञ्चद्वीपगिरेरेको विपश्चित्पश्चिमे तटे | कटेनाद्रितटे पिष्टः करिणा कमलं यथा || ३ ||
krauñcadvīpagirereko vipaścitpaścime taṭe | kaṭenādritaṭe piṣṭaḥ kariṇā kamalaṃ yathā || 3 ||
One wise person on the western shore of Krauncha Island was crushed by an elephant against the mountain side, like a lotus.
क्रौंच द्वीप के पश्चिम तट पर एक विद्वान् व्यक्ति पर्वत की चट्टान से हाथी द्वारा कुचल दिया गया, जैसे कमल।
द्वितीयो नभसा नीतो रक्षसा विक्षताङ्गकः | निक्षिप्तो वाडवे वह्नौ तत्र भस्मत्वमागतः || ४ ||
dvitīyo nabhasā nīto rakṣasā vikṣatāṅgakaḥ | nikṣipto vāḍave vahnau tatra bhasmatvamāgataḥ || 4 ||
The second wise person was carried away by a demon in the sky, his body torn apart, and thrown into the subterranean fire, where he was reduced to ashes.
दूसरा विद्वान् व्यक्ति एक राक्षस द्वारा आकाश में उठा लिया गया, उसका शरीर चीरा हुआ था, और पाताल की अग्नि में फेंक दिया गया, जहाँ वह भस्म हो गया।
तृतीयस्त्रैदशं देशं नीतो विद्याधरेण वै | गतोऽप्रणामकुपितशक्रशापेन भस्मताम् || ५ ||
tṛtīyastrai daśaṃ deśaṃ nīto vidyādhareṇa vai | gato' praṇāmakupitaśakraśāpena bhasmatām || 5 ||
The third wise person was taken to the thirteenth realm by a Vidyadhara. Unable to bow due to anger, he was cursed by Indra and reduced to ashes.
तीसरा विद्वान् व्यक्ति एक विद्याधर द्वारा तेरहवें लोक में ले जाया गया। क्रोध के कारण झुकने में असमर्थ, उसे इंद्र के शाप से भस्म हो गया।
चतुर्थश्चतुरं गच्छन्कुशद्वीपगिरेस्तटे | दुर्वारेण नदीकच्छे मकरेणाष्टधा कृतः || ६ ||
caturthaścaturaṁ gacchan kuśadvīpagirestaṭe | durvāreṇa nadīkacche makareṇāṣṭadhā kr̥taḥ || 6 ||
The fourth one, while going to the four directions, reached the shore of the mountain of Kuśadvīpa. He was divided into eight parts by the crocodile in the difficult-to-cross river.
चौथा चारों दिशाओं में जाते हुए कुशद्वीप पर्वत के तट पर पहुंचा | उसे दुर्गम नदी के कच्छ में मगरमच्छ ने आठ भागों में काट दिया || ६ ||
इति ते पञ्चतां प्राप्ता दिङ्मुखेष्वाकुलाशयाः | क्षये चतुर्षु चत्वारो भूपाला लोकपालवत् || ७ ||
iti te pañcatāṁ prāptā diṅmukheṣvākulāśayāḥ | kṣaye caturṣu catvāro bhūpālā lokapālavat || 7 ||
Thus, they attained the state of being five, with confused minds in all directions. In the destruction of the four, the four kings became like the guardians of the world.
इस प्रकार, वे पांच हो गए, सभी दिशाओं में उलझे हुए मन के साथ | चारों के विनाश में, चारों राजा लोकपालों के समान हो गए || ७ ||
अथ तेषां ददर्शासौ व्योम्न्येव व्योमरूपिणाम् | संवित्प्राक्तनसंस्काराद्व्योमात्मावनिमण्डलम् || ८ ||
atha teṣāṁ dadarśāsau vyomnyeva vyomarūpiṇām | saṃvitprāktanasanskārādvyomātmāvanimaṇḍalam || 8 ||
Then, he saw them in the sky itself, in the form of the sky. From the previous impressions of consciousness, the sky-self saw the earth sphere.
तब, उसने उन्हें आकाश में ही, आकाश के रूप में देखा | चेतना के पूर्व संस्कारों से, आकाश-आत्मा ने पृथ्वी मण्डल को देखा || ८ ||
सप्तद्वीपाब्धिवलयं पुरपत्तनभूषणम् | सुरशैलशिरःपीठं ब्रह्मलोकशिरोमणिम् || ९ ||
saptadvīpābdhivalayaṃ purapattanabhūṣaṇam | suraśailaśiraḥpīṭhaṃ brahmalokśiromaṇim || 9 ||
Adorned with seven islands and oceans, cities and towns, the peak of the divine mountain as the seat, the jewel of Brahmaloka as the crest.
सात द्वीपों और समुद्रों से अलंकृत, नगरों और कस्बों से सजा हुआ, दिव्य पर्वत की चोटी आसन के रूप में, ब्रह्मलोक का मणि शिरोभूषण के रूप में || ९ ||
चन्द्रार्कबिम्बनयनं तारामुक्ताकलापकम् | विलोलमेघवसनं नानावनतनूरुहम् || १० ||
candrārkabimbanayanaṃ tārāmuktākalāpakam | vilolameghavasanaṃ nānāvanatanūruham || 10 ||
With eyes like the moon and sun, adorned with stars and pearls, clothed in moving clouds, with various bowing plants.
चंद्रमा और सूर्य के समान नेत्रों वाला, तारों और मोतियों से अलंकृत, चलते बादलों से वस्त्र धारण किए हुए, विविध झुके हुए पौधों वाला || १० ||
देहान्विपश्चितां संविद्ददर्श चतुरोऽपि सा | प्राग्वत्कल्पपरावृत्तौ द्यौर्दिगन्तानिवाततान् || ११ ||
dehānvipaścitāṃ saṃviddadarśa caturō'pi sā | prāgvatkalpaparāvṛttau dyaurdigantānivātatān || 11 ||
She saw the embodied consciousness of the four, as if the directions of the sky had returned to their previous state.
उसने चारों के शरीर में चेतना को देखा, जैसे आकाश की दिशाएँ पहले जैसे हो गई हों।
आतिवाहिकसंवित्तेस्तेऽव्योम्नि व्योमतात्मकाः | आधिभौतिकदेहत्वभावान्ददृशुरग्रतः || १२ ||
ātivāhikasaṃvittestē'vyomni vyomatātmakāḥ | ādhibhautikadehatvabhāvāndadṛśuragrataḥ || 12 ||
Due to their transcendental consciousness, they appeared in the sky as if they were the sky itself, and they saw the material bodies in front of them.
अपनी पारलौकिक चेतना के कारण, वे आकाश में आकाश के समान प्रकट हुए और उन्होंने अपने सामने भौतिक शरीरों को देखा।
अस्यात्मकत्वेऽविद्येयं कियती स्यादितीक्षितुम् | चत्वारोऽपि प्रवृत्तास्ते संस्कारवशतः पुरः || १३ ||
asyātmakatve'vidyeyaṃ kiyatī syāditīkṣitum | catvāro'pi pravṛttāste saṃskāravśataḥ puraḥ || 13 ||
To see how much ignorance exists in this self-nature, all four of them moved forward due to their impressions.
इस आत्म-स्वभाव में कितनी अज्ञानता है, यह देखने के लिए चारों अपने संस्कारों के कारण आगे बढ़े।
दृश्यदर्शनयोरुर्वीमण्डलानुभवाकृतेः | निष्ठां द्रष्टुमविद्याया भ्रेमुर्द्वीपान्तराणि ते || १४ ||
dṛśyadarśanayorurvīmaṇḍalānubhavākṛteḥ | niṣṭhāṃ draṣṭumavidyāyā bhremurdvīpāntarāṇi te || 14 ||
To see the culmination of ignorance in the experience of the seen and the seer, they wandered through various islands.
दृश्य और द्रष्टा के अनुभव में अज्ञानता की परिणति देखने के लिए, वे विभिन्न द्वीपों में भटके।
द्वीपसप्तकमुल्लङ्घ्य समहार्णवसप्तकम् | विपश्चित्पश्चिमः प्राप घनभूमौ जनार्दनम् || १५ ||
dvīpasaptakamullaṅghya samahārṇavasaptakam | vipaścitpaścimaḥ prāpa ghanabhūmau janārdanam || 15 ||
Crossing the seven islands and the seven oceans, the wise one reached Janardana on the dense earth.
सात द्वीपों और सात समुद्रों को पार करके, विद्वान ने घनी पृथ्वी पर जनार्दन को प्राप्त किया।
तस्मादनुपमं ज्ञानं समासाद्य दिगन्तरे | तस्मिन्नेव समाधाने सोऽतिष्ठद्वर्षपञ्चकम् || १६ ||
tasmādanupamaṃ jñānaṃ samāsādya digantare | tasmineva samādhāne so'tiṣṭhadvarṣapañcakam || 16 ||
Having attained that incomparable knowledge, he remained in that state of meditation for five years.
उस अनुपम ज्ञान को प्राप्त करके, उसी ध्यान में वह पाँच वर्षों तक रहा।
ततो देहं परित्यज्य चित्ते सत्तामुपागते | स तत्प्राण इवाकाशं परं निर्वाणमाययौ || १७ ||
tato dehaṃ parityajya citte sattāmupāgate | sa tatprāṇa ivākāśaṃ paraṃ nirvāṇamāyayau || 17 ||
Then, leaving the body, when the mind attained steadiness, he, like the life breath, reached the supreme nirvana.
तब, शरीर को छोड़कर, जब मन स्थिर हो गया, वह, जैसे प्राण, परम निर्वाण तक पहुँच गया।
पूर्वः पर्वणि शीतांशुबिम्बपार्श्वे स्थितं वपुः | चिन्तयंश्चिरमुन्नष्टदेहश्चन्द्रपुरे स्थितः || १८ ||
pūrvaḥ parvaṇi śītāṃśubimbapārśve sthitaṃ vapuḥ | cintayaṃściramunnaṣṭadehaścandrapure sthitaḥ || 18 ||
The previous one, situated on the side of the moon's disc during the fortnight, contemplating for a long time, remained in the lunar world with a destroyed body.
पिछला, पक्ष के दौरान चंद्रमा के मंडल के पास स्थित, लंबे समय तक ध्यान करते हुए, नष्ट शरीर के साथ चंद्र लोक में रहा।
दक्षिणः शाल्मलिद्वीपे राज्यमुत्सन्नशात्रवः | करोत्यद्यापि न सतो विस्मृतान्यविनिश्चयः || १९ ||
dakṣiṇaḥ śālmalidvīpe rājyamutsannaśātravaḥ | karotyadyāpi na sato vismṛtānyaviniścayaḥ || 19 ||
The southern one, in the island of Shalmali, with a ruined kingdom and defeated enemies, still does not perform any actions, forgetting everything without any decision.
दक्षिण का व्यक्ति, शाल्मली द्वीप में, नष्ट राज्य और पराजित शत्रुओं के साथ, अभी तक कोई कार्य नहीं करता, सब कुछ भूल जाता है, किसी निर्णय के बिना।

uttarastaralāsphālakallole saptamāmbudhau | sahasramekaṃ varṣāṇāmuvāsa makarodare || 20 ||
The northern one, in the trembling waves of the seventh ocean, remained for a thousand years in the belly of a crocodile.
उत्तर का व्यक्ति, सातवें समुद्र की कंपित लहरों में, एक हजार वर्षों तक मगरमच्छ के पेट में रहा।
मकरोदरमांसाशी मृते मकरनायके | मकरोदरतोऽब्धेश्च निर्गतो मकरो यथा || २१ ||
makarodaramāṃsāśī mṛte makaranāyake | makarodarato'bdheśca nirgato makaro yathā || 21 ||
When the lord of the crocodiles died, and the crocodile emerged from the ocean's belly, just as it had emerged from the crocodile's belly.
जब मगरमच्छ के राजा की मृत्यु हुई, और मगरमच्छ समुद्र के पेट से निकला, जैसे वह मगरमच्छ के पेट से निकला था।
ततोऽशीतिसहस्राणि योजनानां घनावनिम् | हिमकल्पजलाम्भोधेरुल्लङ्घ्य सुघनोदरीम् || २२ ||
tato'śītisahasrāṇi yojanānāṃ ghanāvanim | himakalpajalāmbhodherullaṅghya sughanodarīm || 22 ||
Then, crossing eighty thousand dense forests and the ocean of ice-like water with a very dense belly.
फिर, अस्सी हजार घने वनों और बर्फ जैसे पानी के समुद्र को पार करके, जिसका पेट बहुत घना था।
प्राप्तो दशसहस्राणि योजनानां महामहीम् | सौवर्णीं सुरसंचारसरणिं मृतवानसौ || २३ ||
prāpto daśasahasrāṇi yojanānāṃ mahāmahīm | sauvarṇīṃ surasaṃcārasaraṇiṃ mṛtavānasau || 23 ||
He reached ten thousand yojanas of the great earth, which is golden, frequented by the gods, and where the forest of death is located.
उसने दस हजार योजन की महान धरती तक पहुंच गया, जो सोने की बनी है, देवताओं द्वारा आवाजाही की जाती है, और जहां मृत्यु का वन स्थित है।
तस्यां भूमौ च मध्ये च विपश्चिन्नाकितामगात् | उत्तमामग्निमध्यस्थं क्षणात्काष्ठमिवाग्निताम् || २४ ||
tasyāṃ bhūmau ca madhye ca vipaścinnākitāmagāt | uttamāmagnímadhyasthaṃ kṣaṇātkāṣṭhamivāgnitām || 24 ||
In the middle of that earth, the wise one reached the highest fire, as if turning into firewood in an instant.
उस धरती के मध्य में, विद्वान ने उत्तम अग्नि तक पहुंच गया, जैसे क्षण भर में लकड़ी अग्नि में बदल गई हो।
प्रधानदेवो भूत्वासौ लोकालोकगिरिं गतः | अस्य भूमण्डलतरोरालवालमिव स्थितम् || २५ ||
pradhānadevo bhūtvāsau lokālokagiriṃ gataḥ | asya bhūmaṇḍalatarorālavālamiva sthitam || 25 ||
Becoming the chief deity, he reached the Lokāloka mountain, which is situated like a boundary around the earth.
प्रधान देवता बनकर, उसने लोकालोक पर्वत तक पहुंच गया, जो धरती के चारों ओर एक सीमा की तरह स्थित है।
स पञ्चाशत्सहस्राणि योजनानां समुन्नतः | आलोकलोकाचाराढ्यो भाग एकोऽस्य नेतरः || २६ ||
sa pañcāśatsahasrāṇi yojanānāṃ samunnataḥ | ālokalokācārāḍhyo bhāga eko'sya netaraḥ || 26 ||
That mountain is fifty thousand yojanas high. One side of it is illuminated by the light of the stars, and the other side is not.
वह पर्वत पचास हजार योजन ऊँचा है। इसका एक भाग तारों के प्रकाश से आलोकित है, और दूसरा भाग नहीं।
लोकालोकशिरःप्राप्तं तारकामार्गसंस्थितम् | अधःस्थिता अपश्यंस्तमुच्चनक्षत्रशङ्कया || २७ ||
lokālokśiraḥprāptaṃ tārakāmārgasaṃsthitam | adhaḥsthitā apaśyantamuccanakṣatraśaṅkayā || 27 ||
Reaching the summit of Lokāloka, situated on the path of the stars, those below see it with the suspicion of a high star.
लोकालोक के शिखर तक पहुँचकर, तारों के मार्ग पर स्थित, नीचे वाले लोग उसे एक ऊँचे तारे के संदेह से देखते हैं।
तस्मात्प्रदेशात्तत्पारे तमस्तस्य महागिरेः | चतुर्दिक्कं महाखातं नभः शून्यमनन्तकम् || २८ ||
tasmātpradeśāttatpāre tamastasya mahāgireḥ | caturdikkaṃ mahākhātaṃ nabhaḥ śūnyamanantakam || 28 ||
Beyond that region, on the other side of that great mountain, there is darkness. In all four directions, there is a vast, empty, and endless sky.
उस क्षेत्र के पार, उस महान पर्वत के दूसरी ओर, अंधेरा है। चारों दिशाओं में, एक विशाल, खाली और अनंत आकाश है।
ततो भूगोलकोऽयं हि समाप्तो वर्तुलाकृतिः | नभःशून्यं महाखातं ततस्तिमिरपूरितम् || २९ ||
tato bhūgolako'yaṃ hi samāpto vartulākṛtiḥ | nabhaḥśūnyaṃ mahākhātaṃ tatastimirapūritam || 29 ||
Thus, this spherical Earth is complete. Beyond that, there is an empty, vast sky filled with darkness.
इस प्रकार, यह गोलाकार पृथ्वी पूर्ण है। उसके पार, एक खाली, विशाल आकाश है जो अंधेरे से भरा हुआ है।
तत्रालिकज्जलतमालनभोन्तरालनीलं तमो न च मही न च जंगमादि | नालम्बनं न च मनागपि वस्तुजातं किंचित्कदाचिदपि संभवतीति विद्धि || ३० ||
tatrālikajjalatamālanabhontarālanīlaṃ tamo na ca mahī na ca jaṅgamādi | nālambanaṃ na ca manāgapi vastujātaṃ kiñcitsadācidapi saṃbhavatīti viddhi || 30 ||
Know that in that vast, dark emptiness, there is no light, no Earth, no living beings, no support, and no substance of any kind at any time.
जान लो कि उस विशाल, अंधेरे खालीपन में, न प्रकाश है, न पृथ्वी है, न जीवित प्राणी हैं, न आधार है, और न कभी कोई भी पदार्थ है।
