श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | ततः प्रभाते प्रसभं पृथिव्याः कृत्वा यथाशास्त्रमलं व्यवस्थाम् | आविष्टदेहा इव ते रसेन निषेध्यमाना इव मन्त्रिमुख्यैः || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | tataḥ prabhāte prasabhaṃ pṛthivyāḥ kṛtvā yathāśāstramalaṃ vyavasthām | āviṣṭadehā iva te rasena niṣedhyamānā iva mantrimukhyaiḥ || 1 ||

English

Shri Vasishtha said: Then, in the morning, having quickly arranged the earth according to the scriptures, they, as if possessed by the essence, were restrained by the chief ministers.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: फिर, सुबह, शास्त्रों के अनुसार पृथ्वी की व्यवस्था करने के बाद, वे जैसे रस से आविष्ट हो गए थे, मुख्य मंत्रियों द्वारा रोके गए थे।

निवार्य सर्वं परिवारमात्रमाक्रन्दमानं वदनै रुदद्भिः | निरस्य चास्नेहतयाभिमानमात्सर्यलोभाभिभवैषणादि || २ ||

nivārya sarvaṃ parivāramātramākrandamānaṃ vadanai rudadbhiḥ | nirasya cāsnehatayābhimānamātsaryalobhābhibhavaīṣaṇādi || 2 ||

English

Having restrained all the surrounding attendants who were crying out with weeping faces, they removed the pride of affection, envy, greed, and other desires.

हिन्दी

सभी रोते हुए चेहरों वाले परिवार को रोककर, उन्होंने स्नेह का अभिमान, ईर्ष्या, लोभ और अन्य इच्छाओं को दूर कर दिया।

दिगन्तमालोक्य समुद्रपारे क्षणात्समायाम इति ब्रुवन्तः | स्वमन्त्रशक्त्योत्तमतां गतैस्तैरब्धिः पदैरेव तदा प्रविष्टः || ३ ||

digantamālokya samudrapāre kṣaṇātsamāyāma iti bruvantaḥ | svamantraśaktyottamatāṃ gataistairabdhiḥ padaireva tadā praviṣṭaḥ || 3 ||

English

Looking towards the horizon beyond the ocean, they said, 'We will reach there in an instant.' With the supreme power of their mantras, they entered the ocean with their feet.

हिन्दी

समुद्र के पार क्षितिज की ओर देखकर, उन्होंने कहा, 'हम एक क्षण में वहाँ पहुँच जाएँगे।' अपने मंत्रों की उत्तम शक्ति से, उन्होंने अपने पैरों से समुद्र में प्रवेश किया।

विपश्चितस्ते दिशि दिश्यनल्पैर्भृत्यैः समुद्रं प्रविशद्भिरेव | भृत्यैश्च कैश्चित्त्वनुगम्यमाना ययुर्यथा वारिणि पद्भिरेव || ४ ||

vipaścitas te diśi diśyanalpairbhṛtyaiḥ samudraṃ praviśadbhireva | bhṛtyaiśca kaiścittvanugamyamānā yayuryathā vāriṇi padbhireva || 4 ||

English

Those wise ones, going in different directions with a few attendants, entered the ocean with their feet. Followed by some attendants, they went as if on water with their feet.

हिन्दी

वे विद्वान लोग, कुछ सेवकों के साथ विभिन्न दिशाओं में जाते हुए, अपने पैरों से समुद्र में प्रवेश किया। कुछ सेवकों द्वारा अनुगमन किये जाते हुए, वे जैसे पानी पर अपने पैरों से चले गए।

तरङ्गजालेषु पदानि कृत्वा पृष्ठे स्थलस्येव जलस्य चान्तः | चत्वार एकैकतयैव युक्ता भृशं वियुक्ता निजसेनया ते || ५ ||

taraṅgajāleṣu padāni kṛtvā pṛṣṭhe sthalasyeva jalasya cāntaḥ | catvāra ekaiakatayaiva yuktā bhṛśaṃ viyuktā nijasenayā te || 5 ||

English

Making their feet like the waves, they moved on the surface of the water as if it were land. The four of them, each individually, were strongly united with their own armies.

हिन्दी

अपने पैरों को लहरों की तरह बनाकर, वे जल की सतह पर जैसे जमीन पर चले। चारों अलग-अलग अपनी-अपनी सेनाओं के साथ मजबूती से जुड़े हुए थे।

पदक्रमेणैव महार्णवान्तस्तावत्प्रविष्टा अवलोकितास्ते | तटस्थितैर्यावददृश्यभावं शरन्नभोमेघलवा इवापुः || ६ ||

padakrameṇaiva mahārṇavāntastāvatpraviṣṭā avalokitāste | taṭasthitairyāvadadṛśyabhāvaṃ śarannabhomeghalavā ivāpuḥ || 6 ||

English

Gradually they entered the vast ocean and were seen by those standing on the shore until they became invisible, as if dissolving into the clouds in the sky.

हिन्दी

धीरे-धीरे वे विशाल समुद्र में प्रवेश कर गए और तट पर खड़े लोगों द्वारा देखे गए जब तक कि वे अदृश्य नहीं हो गए, मानो आकाश के बादलों में विलीन हो गए हों।

तमध्वानमथोहुस्ते जलधौ पादचारिणः | वितताध्यवसायेन बद्धकक्षाहरा इव || ७ ||

tamadhvānamathohuste jaladhau pādacāriṇaḥ | vitatādhyavasāyena baddhakakṣāharā iva || 7 ||

English

They then spoke of that journey on foot in the ocean, with a firm resolve, as if they were bound by a girdle.

हिन्दी

फिर उन्होंने समुद्र में पैदल यात्रा के बारे में दृढ़ संकल्प के साथ बात की, मानो वे कमरबंद से बँधे हों।

उन्नतावनतामद्रिसमारोहावरोहणैः | श्रियं वारितरङ्गाणां हरन्तो हरिमूर्तयः || ८ ||

unnatāvanatāmadrisamārohāvarohaṇaiḥ | śriyaṃ vāritaraṅgāṇāṃ haranto harimūrtayaḥ || 8 ||

English

With the ascent and descent of high and low mountains, they took away the beauty of the water waves, appearing like forms of Vishnu.

हिन्दी

ऊँचे-नीचे पर्वतों के चढ़ने-उतरने से, वे जल की लहरों की शोभा को ले गए, मानो विष्णु के रूप हों।

आवर्तेषु तृणानीव भ्रान्ता विगतसंभ्रमम् | चिरं चञ्चलमत्ताभ्रचन्द्रमण्डलशोभिषु || ९ ||

āvarteṣu tṛṇānīva bhrāntā vigatasaṃbhramam | ciraṃ cañcalamattābhracandramanḍalaśobhiṣu || 9 ||

English

In the whirlpools, they wandered like blades of grass, free from confusion, for a long time in the restless, intoxicated cloud-moon orbs.

हिन्दी

भंवरों में, वे घास की पत्तियों की तरह भटकते रहे, भ्रम से मुक्त, लंबे समय तक अस्थिर, मतवाले बादल-चंद्र मण्डलों में।

मन्त्रविद्याबलौजोभिर्दुर्जयाः शस्त्रपाणयः | क्वचित्प्रमत्तैर्मकरैर्निगीर्णोद्गीर्णदेहकाः || १० ||

mantravidyābalaujobhirdujayāḥ śastrapāṇayaḥ | kvacitpramattairmakarairnigīrṇodgīrṇadehakāḥ || 10 ||

English

With the power of mantras, knowledge, and strength, they were invincible with weapons in hand, sometimes swallowed and then regurgitated by careless crocodiles.

हिन्दी

मंत्र, विद्या और बल की शक्ति से, वे हाथ में हथियार लिए अजेय थे, कभी-कभी लापरवाह मगरमच्छों द्वारा निगले और फिर उगले जाते थे।

जलकल्लोलविश्रान्तवातोत्सारितमूर्तयः | नीतानीताः क्षणेनैव योजनानां शतं शतम् || ११ ||

jalakallolaviśrāntavātotsāritamūrtayaḥ | nītānītāḥ kṣaṇenaiva yojanānāṃ śataṃ śatam || 11 ||

English

The forms, exhausted by the waves and driven by the wind, were carried away in an instant, a hundred yojanas.

हिन्दी

लहरों से थके हुए और हवा से उड़ाए गए रूप, एक क्षण में सौ योजन दूर ले जाए गए।

जलकल्लोलमातङ्गतुङ्गिताङ्गतया तया | दधाना निजराज्येभपृष्ठरोहस्थितिश्रियम् || १२ ||

jalakallolamātaṅgatuṅgitāṅgatayā tayā | dadhānā nijarājyebhapṛṣṭharohasthitiśriyam || 12 ||

English

With the waves rising like the high shoulders of an elephant, they bore the splendor of their own kingdom on their backs.

हिन्दी

लहरें हाथी के ऊँचे कंधों की तरह उठी हुई थीं, और उन्होंने अपने राज्य की शोभा को अपनी पीठ पर धारण किया।

विस्तीर्णोर्मिघटापट्टपाटपट्टनपाटवैः | दर्शयन्तो जलाम्भोदनिष्क्रान्तिं मारुता इव || १३ ||

vistīrṇormighaṭāpaṭṭapāṭapaṭṭanapāṭavaiḥ | darśayanto jalāmbhodaniṣkrāntiṃ mārutā iva || 13 ||

English

With the spread of the waves' splashing sounds, they displayed the emergence of water clouds, like the wind.

हिन्दी

लहरों के फैले हुए छपाक की आवाजों के साथ, वे पानी के बादलों के उभरने को हवा की तरह दिखाते हैं।

तरत्तरलमातङ्गतरङ्गौघविघट्टिताः | अत्यजन्तो निजं धैर्यं वेलावरतटा इव || १४ ||

tarattaralamātaṅgataraṅgaughavighaṭṭitāḥ | atyajanto nijaṃ dhairyaṃ velāvarataṭā iva || 14 ||

English

Disturbed by the multitude of waves resembling the swift elephants, they abandoned their courage like the shoreline.

हिन्दी

हाथी की तरह तेज लहरों के समूह से विचलित होकर, वे तट की तरह अपना साहस छोड़ देते हैं।

महोर्मिमुक्तामाणिक्यमण्डलप्रतिबिम्बिताः | एकाकिनोऽपि परितः पौरुषेयवृता इव || १५ ||

mahormimuktāmāṇikyamaṇḍalapratibimbitāḥ | ekākino'pi paritaḥ pauruṣeyavṛtā iva || 15 ||

English

Reflected by the circles of pearls released by the great waves, they appeared as if surrounded by attendants, even when alone.

हिन्दी

बड़ी लहरों द्वारा छोड़े गए मोतियों के चक्रों से प्रतिबिम्बित होकर, वे अकेले होने पर भी परिचारकों से घिरे हुए लगते हैं।

पाण्डुडिण्डीरपिण्डेषु कुर्वन्तो लाघवात्पदम्| श्वेतपद्मपरिक्रान्तराजहंसश्रियं दधुः || १६ ||

pāṇḍuḍiṇḍīrapiṇḍeṣu kurvanto lāghavātpadam| śvetapadmaparikrāntarājahaṃsaśriyaṃ dadhuḥ || 16 ||

English

In the white lotus ponds, they moved gracefully, like royal swans adorned with white lotuses.

हिन्दी

श्वेत कमल तालाबों में, वे सुंदरता से चलते थे, जैसे श्वेत कमलों से सजे हुए राजहंस।

घननिर्घातनिर्घोषभीषणार्णवघुंघुमात्| न भीता भूभृतस्तत्र वेलावलनजृम्भितात् || १७ ||

ghananirghātanirghoṣabhīṣaṇārṇavaghuṃghumāt| na bhītā bhūbhṛtastatra velāvalanajṛmbhitāt || 17 ||

English

In the terrifying roar of the dense clouds and the ocean's waves, the earth-bearers were not afraid there, despite the waves crashing.

हिन्दी

घने बादलों और समुद्र की लहरों के भयानक गर्जन में, वहाँ धरती के धारक डरे नहीं, हालांकि लहरें टूट रही थीं।

अभ्रंलिहजलाद्रीन्द्रपातोत्पातविघट्टिताः| क्षणं पातालमाजग्मुः क्षणमर्कास्पदं ययुः || १८ ||

abhraṃlihajalādrīndrapātotpātavighaṭṭitāḥ| kṣaṇaṃ pātālamājagmuḥ kṣaṇamarkāspadaṃ yayuḥ || 18 ||

English

Tossed by the stormy clouds and the tumultuous rain, they reached the underworld in a moment and the next moment, they reached the abode of the sun.

हिन्दी

आंधी के बादलों और भयंकर वर्षा से उलझे हुए, वे एक पल में पाताल लोक पहुंचे और अगले पल सूर्य के आस्पद पर पहुंचे।

अशङ्कितोत्पतद्वारिपूरपातपटावृताः| उत्पातपातनिपतद्वितानकवृता इव || १९ ||

aśaṅkitotpatadvāripuurapātapaṭāvṛtāḥ| utpātapātanipatadvitānakavṛtā iva || 19 ||

English

They were covered with the pouring rain that fell without fear, as if covered by the falling canopy of calamities.

हिन्दी

वे बिना डर के बरसते हुए पानी से ढंके हुए थे, जैसे कि विपत्ति के गिरते हुए छत से ढंके हुए थे।

प्रक्रान्तास्तेम्बुराशौ सहचरमकराः शूरनक्रैः कुलीरैर्व्याप्तावर्ताविवृत्ताः सलिलतरुलतासीकरैरन्तरालैः| कुर्वन्तः कान्तियुक्तं वपुरिव कुसुमैर्भ्रान्तमाणिक्यमुक्तैर्व्यक्ताव्यक्तांशुजालैः प्रतिपदमितरैरभ्ररूपैरदभ्रैः || २० ||

prakrāntāstemburāśau sahacaramakarāḥ śūranakraiḥ kulīrairvyāptāvartāvivṛttāḥ salilatarulatāsīkarairantarālaiḥ| kurvantaḥ kāntiyuktaṃ vapuriva kusumairbhrāntamāṇikyamuktairvyaktāvyaktāṃśujālaiḥ pratipadamitarairabhrarūpairadabhraiḥ || 20 ||

English

They moved gracefully in the sky, accompanied by brave crocodiles and otters, spreading out in the whirlpools, with intertwining water plants and flowers, creating a beautiful form adorned with scattered gems and clear and unclear rays of light.

हिन्दी

वे आकाश में सुंदरता से चले, शूरवीर मगरमच्छों और उदबिलावों के साथ, भंवरों में फैले हुए, जल पौधों और फूलों के साथ जुड़े हुए, बिखरे हुए रत्नों और स्पष्ट और अस्पष्ट प्रकाश की किरणों से सुशोभित एक सुंदर रूप बनाते हुए।
