श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | इत्येते दृश्यरूपाया अविद्याया विचारणे | प्रवृत्ताः पादचारेण समुद्रद्वीपगामिनः || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | ityete dṛśyarūpāyā avidyāyā vicāraṇe | pravṛttāḥ pādacāreṇa samudradvīpagāminaḥ || 1 ||

English

Shri Vasistha said: These, having embarked on the contemplation of ignorance in the form of the visible, proceeded on foot like those who travel to the islands of the ocean.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: ये लोग, जो अविद्या के दृश्य रूप के विचार में प्रवृत्त हुए, पैदल चलकर समुद्र के द्वीपों की यात्रा करने वालों की तरह चले गए।

अब्धेर्द्वीपं पुनर्द्वीपादब्धिं द्वीपं गिरिं वनम् | लाघवाल्लङ्घयामासुश्छेदभेदविवर्जिताः || २ ||

abdherdvīpaṃ punardvīpādabdhiṃ dvīpaṃ giriṃ vanam | lāghavāllaṅghayāmāsuśchedabhedavivarjitāḥ || 2 ||

English

From the ocean to the island, from the island to the ocean, from the mountain to the forest, they crossed effortlessly, without any distinction or division.

हिन्दी

समुद्र से द्वीप तक, द्वीप से समुद्र तक, पर्वत से वन तक, वे सहजता से पार कर गए, बिना किसी भेद या विभाजन के।

पीतो विपश्चित्पाश्चात्यो मीनेनामरमानिना | विष्णुमीनकुलोत्थेन वितस्तावाहनौजसा || ३ ||

pīto vipaścitpāścātyo mīnenāmaramāninā | viṣṇumīnakulotthena vitastāvāhanaujasā || 3 ||

English

Drinking the nectar of knowledge, the wise one from the west, carried by the immortal fish born from the Vishnu-fish lineage, with the strength of the Vitasta river.

हिन्दी

ज्ञान के अमृत को पीकर, पश्चिम का विद्वान्, विष्णु-मीन वंश से उत्पन्न अमर मछली द्वारा वितस्ता नदी के बल से ले जाया गया।

क्षीरोदं प्राप्य मत्स्येन तेनोद्गीर्णः सुदुर्जरः | तेन क्षीरोदमुल्लङ्घ्य गतो दूरं दिगन्तरम् || ४ ||

kṣīrodaṃ prāpya matsyena tenodgīrṇaḥ sudujarḥ | tena kṣīrodamullaṅghya gato dūraṃ digantaram || 4 ||

English

Reaching the ocean of milk, carried by the fish, he was lifted up, very difficult to conquer. Crossing the ocean of milk, he went far to the distant horizon.

क्षीर सागर तक पहुंचकर, मछली द्वारा उठाया गया, वह अत्यंत दुर्जय था। क्षीर सागर को पार करके, वह दूर दिगंत तक गया।

दक्षिणो यक्षनगरे संप्रेक्ष्येक्षुरसार्णवे | शिक्षादक्षिणयाक्षिप्य यक्षिण्या कामुकीकृतः || ५ ||

dakṣiṇo yakṣanagare saṃprekṣyekṣurasārṇave | śikṣādakṣiṇayākṣipya yakṣiṇyā kāmukīkṛtaḥ || 5 ||

English

In the south, in the city of the Yakshas, seeing the ocean of sugarcane juice, he was attracted by the Yakshini with the skill of Dakshina, making him desirous.

हिन्दी

दक्षिण में, यक्ष नगर में, ईख के रस के सागर को देखकर, उसे दक्षिणा की कला से यक्षिणी ने आकर्षित किया, जिससे उसे कामुक बना दिया।

पूर्वो मकरमाक्रम्य यदा गङ्गां निकृत्तवान्| गङ्गया स तदानीय कान्यकुब्जे समुज्झितः || ६ ||

pūrvo makaramākrāmya yadā gaṅgāṃ nikṛttavān| gaṅgayā sa tadānīya kānyakubje samujjhitaḥ || 6 ||

English

When the eastern direction, having crossed the Makara constellation, cut off the Ganges, it was then worshipped in Kannauj with the Ganges.

हिन्दी

जब पूर्व दिशा मकर राशि को पार करके गंगा को काट दिया, तब गंगा के साथ कन्नौज में पूजा की गई।

उत्तरस्तूत्तरकुरूनाराध्य प्राप्तवाञ्श्रियम्| तं तयैनं न बाधन्ते दिगन्ते मृतभीतयः || ७ ||

uttarastūttarakurūnārādhya prāptavāñśriyam| taṃ tayainaṃ na bādhante digante mṛtabhītayaḥ || 7 ||

English

The northern direction, having worshipped the Uttarakurus, obtained prosperity. It is not troubled by the fears of death at the ends of the directions.

हिन्दी

उत्तर दिशा उत्तरकुरुओं की पूजा करके समृद्धि प्राप्त करती है। दिशाओं के अंत में मृत्यु के भय से वह परेशान नहीं होती।

तया मकरमातङ्गनिगीर्णोद्गीर्णमूर्तिमान्| अतिचक्राम सुबहून्द्वीपान्तरकुलाचलान् || ८ ||

tayā makaramātaṅganigīrṇodgīrṇamūrtimān| aticakrāma subahūndvīpāntarakulācalān || 8 ||

English

With the help of the Ganges, having swallowed the Makara and the elephant, and having risen, it crossed many islands and mountain ranges.

गंगा की सहायता से, मकर और हाथी को निगलकर और उठकर, वह कई द्वीपों और पर्वत श्रृंखलाओं को पार कर गया।

पश्चिमः पृष्ठमारोप्य हेमचूडेन पक्षिणा| कुशद्वीपे कुशाङ्गश्रीस्तरसा तारतोऽर्णवान् || ९ ||

paścimaḥ pṛṣṭhamāropya hemacūḍena pakṣiṇā| kuśadvīpe kuśāṅgaśrīstarasā tārato'rṇavān || 9 ||

English

The western direction, placing the back on the golden-crested bird, quickly crossed the oceans to Kushadvipa with the glory of Kushang.

हिन्दी

पश्चिम दिशा, सोने के चोटी वाले पक्षी पर पीठ रखकर, कुशांग की श्री के साथ तेजी से कुशद्वीप तक समुद्रों को पार कर गया।

क्रौञ्चद्वीपाचले पूर्वो निगीर्णो रक्षसा वने| तद्रक्षः पाटितं तेन हृदयेऽन्त्रविकर्तनैः || १० ||

krauñcadvīpācale pūrvo nigīrṇo rakṣasā vane| tadrakṣaḥ pāṭitaṃ tena hṛdaye'ntravikartanaiḥ || 10 ||

English

In the forest on the Krauncha mountain of the eastern island, swallowed by a demon, that demon was torn apart by him with the tearing of the heart and intestines.

हिन्दी

पूर्व द्वीप के क्रौंच पर्वत के वन में, एक राक्षस द्वारा निगले जाने पर, उस राक्षस को हृदय और आंतों को चीरकर फाड़ दिया गया।

दक्षिणो दक्षशापेन यक्षतामागतः क्षणात् | शाकद्वीपे शतेनासौ वर्षाणां मोक्षमागतः || ११ ||

dakṣiṇo dakṣaśāpena yakṣatāmāgataḥ kṣaṇāt | śākadvīpe śatena asau varṣāṇāṃ mokṣamāgataḥ || 11 ||

English

Dakshina, due to the curse of Daksha, became a Yaksha in an instant. In Shakadvipa, he attained liberation after a hundred years.

हिन्दी

दक्षिण दक्ष के शाप से क्षणभर में यक्ष बन गए। शाकद्वीप में सौ वर्षों के बाद उन्होंने मोक्ष प्राप्त किया।

उत्तरस्तरसोत्तीर्णतारावरतरङ्गिणः | महार्णवसुवर्णोर्व्यां सिद्धशापाच्छिलां गतः || १२ ||

uttarastarasottīrṇatārāvarataraṅgiṇaḥ | mahārṇavasuvarṇorvyāṃ siddhaśāpācchilāṃ gataḥ || 12 ||

English

Uttara, having crossed the turbulent waves of the great ocean, reached the rock due to the curse of the Siddha.

हिन्दी

उत्तर, महान समुद्र के उग्र तरंगों को पार करके, सिद्ध के शाप से शिला तक पहुंच गए।

ततो वर्षशतेनासौ प्रसादाज्जातवेदसः | तेनैवोन्मोचितस्तत्र सिद्धेन रतिमाप्तवान् || १३ ||

tato varṣaśatena asau prasādājjātavedasaḥ | tenaivonmocitastatra siddhena ratimāptavān || 13 ||

English

Then, after a hundred years, by the grace of Jatavedas, he was liberated there by the Siddha and attained bliss.

तब, सौ वर्षों के बाद, जातवेदस की कृपा से, वह सिद्ध द्वारा वहां मुक्त हुआ और आनंद प्राप्त किया।

वर्षाण्यष्टावभूद्राजा नालिकेरनिवासिनाम् | पूर्वः परमधर्मिष्ठः प्राप्तवान्प्राक्स्मृतिं ततः || १४ ||

varṣāṇyaṣṭāvabhūdrājā nālikeranivāsinām | pūrvaḥ paramadharmiṣṭhaḥ prāptavānprākasmṛtiṃ tataḥ || 14 ||

English

He became the king of the inhabitants of Nalikera for eight years. Previously, he was highly righteous and then attained ancient memory.

हिन्दी

वह नालिकेर के निवासियों का राजा आठ वर्षों तक बना। पहले, वह बहुत धार्मिक था और फिर प्राचीन स्मृति प्राप्त की।

कल्पवृक्षवने मेरोरुत्तरेऽप्सरसा सह | उवास दशवर्षाणि नालिकेरफलाशनः || १५ ||

kalpavṛkṣavane meroruttare'psarasā saha | uvāsa daśavarṣāṇi nālikeraphalāśanaḥ || 15 ||

English

He lived in the Kalpavriksha forest on the northern side of Meru with an Apsara for ten years, eating Nalikera fruits.

हिन्दी

वह मेरु के उत्तरी भाग में कल्पवृक्ष वन में एक अप्सरा के साथ दस वर्षों तक रहा, नालिकेर फल खाते हुए।

विहगाश्वासतत्त्वज्ञः शाल्मलिद्वीपशाल्मलौ | पश्चिमः पक्षिणीनीडे क्रीडया न्यवसत्समाः || १६ ||

vihagāśvāsatattvajñaḥ śālmalidvīpaśālmalau | paścimaḥ pakṣiṇīnīḍe krīḍayā nyavasatsamāḥ || 16 ||

English

The one who knows the truth about the birds and horses, resided for years in the western part of the island of Shalmali, in the nest of the birds, playing joyfully.

हिन्दी

जो पक्षियों और घोड़ों के तत्त्व को जानता है, वह शाल्मली द्वीप के पश्चिमी भाग में पक्षियों के घोंसले में खेल-खेल में कई वर्षों तक रहा।

मन्दराद्रौ मृदुतले मन्दारतरुमन्दिरे | किन्नरी मन्दरीनाम्नी दिनमेकमसेवत || १७ ||

mandarādrau mṛdutale mandāratarumandire | kinnarī mandarīnāmnī dinamekamasevata || 17 ||

English

In the soft ground of Mount Mandara, in the abode of the Mandara tree, a Kinnari named Mandari served for one day.

हिन्दी

मंदराचल की कोमल भूमि में, मंदार वृक्ष के निवास में, मंदरी नाम की एक किन्नरी एक दिन सेवा करती रही।

क्षीरोदवेलावनकल्पवृक्षवनावलीनन्दनदेवताभिः | सार्धं समाः सप्ततिमप्सरोभिर्निनाय कामाकुलितोऽथ पूर्वः || १८ ||

kṣīrodavelāvanakalpavṛkṣavanāvalīnandanadevatābhiḥ | sārdhaṃ samāḥ saptatimapsarobhirnināya kāmākulito'tha pūrvaḥ || 18 ||

English

Along with the divine beings of the grove of wish-fulfilling trees in the garden of the ocean of milk, he spent seventy years with the Apsaras, overwhelmed by desire.

हिन्दी

दूध के समुद्र के उद्यान के कल्पवृक्ष वन की देवताओं के साथ, वह सत्तर वर्षों तक अप्सराओं के साथ काम से व्याकुल होकर बिताया।
