श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | अथ तेषां तदा तत्र ततस्तांस्तानदर्शयन् | पार्श्वगा वनवृक्षाब्धिशैलमेघवनेचरान् || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | atha teṣāṃ tadā tatra tatastāṃstānadarśayan | pārśvagā vanavṛkṣābdhiśailameghavanecharān || 1 ||

English

Shri Vasishtha said: Then, at that time and place, he showed them the various beings living in the vicinity of the forest, trees, ocean, mountains, clouds, and the forest dwellers.

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: फिर, उस समय और स्थान पर, उन्होंने उन्हें वन, वृक्षों, समुद्र, पर्वतों, बादलों और वन निवासियों के आसपास के विभिन्न जीवों को दिखाया।

English

O Deva, see this mountain whose peak is covered with clouds, which rises from the middle of the ocean and reaches the region of the sun.

हे देव, इस पर्वत को देखो जिसकी चोटी बादलों से ढकी हुई है, जो समुद्र के मध्य से उठता है और सूर्य के क्षेत्र तक पहुँचता है।

इमा बकुलपुन्नागनालिकेरकुलाकुलाः | विपिनावलयो वान्तविविधामोदमारुताः || ३ ||

imā bakulapunnāganālikerakulākulāḥ | vipināvalayo vāntavivivdhāmodamārutāḥ || 3 ||

English

These are the groves filled with Bakula, Punnaga, and Naliker trees, surrounded by forests, and filled with various fragrant breezes.

ये बकुल, पुन्नाग और नालिकेर वृक्षों से भरे हुए उपवन हैं, जो वनों से घिरे हुए हैं और विभिन्न सुगंधित हवाओं से भरे हुए हैं।

lunātyupatyakāṃ vārdhiḥ śailaśāliśilāvalīḥ | vanālīrlaharīdātrairāpādaphalapallavāḥ || 4 ||

English

The ocean erodes the shore, the mountain rocks, and the rows of stones. The forest vines, with their swaying tendrils, are laden with fruits and leaves.

समुद्र तट, पर्वतीय चट्टानों और पत्थरों की पंक्तियों को काटता है। वन की लताएँ, अपने लहराते हुए डंठलों के साथ, फलों और पत्तों से भरी हुई हैं।

अधित्यकासु मेघालीर्नृत्यतां स्वाम्बुभूभृताम् | धुनोति जलधिर्बालो गृहधूमावलीमिव || ५ ||

adhityakāsu meghālīrnṛtyatāṃ svāmbubhūbhṛtām | dhunoti jaladhirbālo gṛhadhūmāvalīmiva || 5 ||

English

Above, the rows of clouds dance like the supporters of the water-bearing earth. The young ocean sweeps away the rows of smoke from the houses like a broom.

हिन्दी

ऊपर, बादलों की पंक्तियाँ पानी लेकर धरती के सहायकों की तरह नाचती हैं। युवा समुद्र घरों से धुएँ की पंक्तियों को झाड़ू की तरह बहा ले जाता है।

राकाब्धिपूरसंप्रोतशङ्खशाखास्तटद्रुमाः चन्द्रबिम्बफलाः कल्पवृक्षा इव विभान्त्यमी || ६ ||

rākābhdhipūrasaṃprotaśaṅkhaśākhāstataṭadrumāḥ candrabimbaphalāḥ kalpavṛkṣā iva vibhāntyamī || 6 ||

English

The trees on the shore, with branches laden with the full moon-like fruits, appear like wish-fulfilling trees.

तट के पेड़, जिनकी शाखाएँ चन्द्रमा के समान फलों से लदी हुई हैं, कल्पवृक्षों की तरह दिखाई देते हैं।

रत्नपुष्पभरापूर्णरक्तपल्लवपाणयः भवन्तं पूजयन्तीव लतादारान्विता द्रुमाः || ७ ||

ratnapuṣpabharāpūrṇaraktapallavapāṇayaḥ bhavantaṃ pūjayantīva latādārānvitā drumāḥ || 7 ||

English

The trees, adorned with creepers and laden with gem-like flowers, seem to worship you with their red, tender leaves.

हिन्दी

पेड़, जिनकी लताओं से सुशोभित हैं और जिनकी शाखाएँ रत्नों के समान फूलों से लदी हुई हैं, अपने लाल, कोमल पत्तों से आपकी पूजा करते हुए दिखाई देते हैं।

प्रोतोर्मिमकरग्रासैर्दृषद्दन्तैरागुहामुखैः ऋक्षवानृक्षवद्भूभृद्धत्ते घुरघुरारवम् || ८ ||

English

The earth, bearing the weight of the mountains, roars with the sound of 'ghur ghur' due to the waves and the crocodiles, with their sharp teeth and cave-like mouths.

English

The great Indra, with his thunderous roars, threatens the clouds, which are energized by the rain and respond with their own thunderous sounds.

English

The Malaya mountain, adorned with sandalwood, appears to rise up like a wrestler, ready to conquer the surging ocean.

संध्या के समय, चन्दन से सुशोभित मलय पर्वत, एक पहलवान की तरह उठता है, जो उफान मारते समुद्र को जीतने के लिए तैयार है।

English

The ocean, with its unending waves adorned with jewels, appears to be a necklace of jewels due to the illusion caused by the rays of the sun.

समुद्र, जिसकी लहरें रत्नों से सजी हुई हैं, सूर्य की किरणों के कारण होने वाले भ्रम से एक रत्नमाला की तरह दिखाई देता है।

सरन्ति रत्नमूर्धानःश्चलकानिलपायिनःवानपूराः पर्वतकाः सर्पा इव नतोन्नतैः || १२ ||

English

The mountains, with their peaks adorned with jewels and swaying in the wind, appear like serpents moving with their heads raised and lowered.

रत्नों से सजे शिखरों वाले पर्वत, जो हवा में झूम रहे हैं, सिर उठाकर और झुकाकर चलने वाले सर्पों की तरह दिखाई देते हैं।

भ्रमन्तो वीचिशृङ्गेषु मकरेभाः करोत्कटैःहरन्ति सीकराम्भोदा मेघानुद्राविता इव || १३ ||

bhramanto vīciśrṛṅgeṣu makarebhāḥ karotkaṭaiḥharanti sīkarāmbhodā meghānudrāvitā iva || 13 ||

English

The waves, moving like crocodiles with their raised hands, appear to be carrying away the clouds, as if driven by the wind.

English

The elephant, unable to bear the weight of the water-filled clouds on its head, dies with a loud cry, its body twisted in pain.

हाथी, जो अपने सिर पर पानी से भरे बादलों का भार नहीं उठा सकता, दर्द से बिछड़े शरीर के साथ एक जोरदार चीख के साथ मर जाता है।

विविधप्राणिसंपूर्णाः सजलाद्रिनतोन्नताःयथैवाम्भोधयः सर्वास्तथैव द्वीपभूमयः || १५ ||

vividhaprāṇisaṃpūrṇāḥ sajalādrinatonnatāḥyathaivāmbhodhayaḥ sarvāstathaiva dvīpabhūmayaḥ || 15 ||

English

Just as the oceans are filled with various living beings and have mountains with flowing water, so are the islands filled with diverse life forms and have mountains with flowing water.

हिन्दी

ठीक उसी तरह जैसे समुद्र विभिन्न जीवों से भरे हुए हैं और उनमें बहते पानी वाले पर्वत हैं, वैसे ही द्वीप भी विभिन्न जीवों से भरे हुए हैं और उनमें बहते पानी वाले पर्वत हैं।

आवर्तानात्मनोऽनन्यानप्यन्यानिव भास्वरान् गृह्यमाणानसद्रूपान्दृश्यमानानपि स्फुटान् || १६ ||

āvartānātmano'nananyānapyanyāniva bhāsvarān gṛhyamāṇānasadrūpāndṛśyamānānapi sphuṭān || 16 ||

English

The self-luminous objects, though not different from the self, appear as if different, shining brightly, perceived as unreal, and clearly visible.

हिन्दी

स्वयंप्रकाश वस्तुएँ, यद्यपि आत्मा से भिन्न नहीं हैं, तथापि भिन्न प्रतीत होती हैं, चमकती हुई, असत्य के रूप में ग्रहण की जाती हैं और स्पष्ट रूप से दिखाई देती हैं।

तरङ्गतरलानन्तर्जडानप्यम्बुधिश्चलान् धत्ते ब्रह्मजगन्तीव सान्तानप्यन्तवर्जितान् || १७ ||

taraṅgataralānantarjaḍānapyambudhicchalān dhatte brahmajagantīva sāntānapyantavarjitān || 17 ||

English

The ocean holds the agitated waves, which are inert and moving, as if it were the eternal Brahman, without beginning or end.

सागर उत्तेजित तरंगों को धारण करता है, जो जड़ और चल रही हैं, मानो यह अनंत ब्रह्म हो, जिसका न आदि है न अंत।

यानन्तरिन्द्रवद्भानुमणीन्धत्तेऽम्बुधिर्बहून् मन्थापहृतसर्वस्वो देवेभ्यः परिरक्षितान् || १८ ||

yānantarindravadbhānumaṇīndhatte'mbudhirbahūn manthāpahṛtasarvasvodevebhyaḥ parirakṣitān || 18 ||

English

The ocean holds many precious gems, like the sun, which are protected from the gods by the churning of the ocean, having taken away all its wealth.

सागर बहुत से मूल्यवान रत्नों को धारण करता है, जो सूर्य के समान हैं, जो सागर के मंथन से देवताओं से बचाए गए हैं, जिन्होंने सागर का सारा धन ले लिया है।

English

The great radiance is seen, as well as from the underworld, as if it were the reflection of the inner truth, hidden.

महान तेज दिखाई देता है, और पाताल से भी, मानो यह अंतर्निहित सत्य का प्रतिबिम्ब हो, छिपा हुआ।

तेषां मध्यादेकमेकं प्रत्यहं पश्चिमार्णवे निक्षेपाय क्षिपति यं तेन मन्ये दिनं भवेत् || २० ||

teṣāṃ madhyādekamekaṃ pratyahaṃ paścimārṇave nikṣepāya kṣipati yaṃ tena manye dinaṃ bhavet || 20 ||

English

From among them, one by one, every day, it throws into the western ocean for safekeeping, by which I think the day is made.

नानादिग्देशपयसामब्धौ साधुसमागमः | यात्रायामिव लोकानां मिथः कलकलान्वितः || २१ ||

nānādigdeśapayasāmabdhau sādhusamāgamaḥ | yātrāyāmiva lokānāṃ mithaḥ kalakalānvitaḥ || 21 ||

English

In the ocean, the confluence of waters from various directions and regions is like the joyful meeting of people on a journey, filled with mutual chatter.

समुद्र में विभिन्न दिशाओं और देशों के जलों का संगम यात्रा में लोगों के मिलन की तरह है, जो परस्पर बातचीत से भरा होता है।

जलेचरावरा नूनं सागरार्णवसंगमे | अन्योन्यवेल्लनाद्युद्धं न कदाचन शाम्यति || २२ ||

jalecarāvarā nūnaṃ sāgarārṇavasaṃgame | anyonyavellanādyuddhaṃ na kadācana śāmyati || 22 ||

English

In the confluence of the ocean and the sea, the aquatic creatures, it seems, never cease their mutual conflicts and battles.

समुद्र और सागर के संगम में, जलचर प्राणियों के परस्पर संघर्ष और युद्ध कभी शांत नहीं होते हैं।

ताम्यत्तिमितरङ्गाग्रनर्तनावर्तविभ्रमम् | वलयन्वायुरायाति वान्तसीकरमौक्तिकैः || २३ ||

tāmyattimitarāṅgāgranartanāvartavibhramam | valayanvāyurāyāti vāntasīkaramauktikaiḥ || 23 ||

English

The wind, adorned with pearls and frost, comes dancing with the waves, causing a whirlwind of confusion and chaos.

मोती और ओस से सज्जित वायु, तरंगों के साथ नृत्य करते हुए, उलझन और अव्यवस्था का भंवर पैदा करती है।

सरिन्मुक्तालतामध्यमध्यस्थाब्दमणीश्वराः | दीर्घाः खणखणायन्ते चञ्चलाः सर्वतोऽम्बुधेः || २४ ||

sarinmuktālatāmadhyamadhyasthābdamaṇīśvarāḥ | dīrghāḥ khaṇakhaṇāyante cañcalāḥ sarvato'mbudheḥ || 24 ||

English

The long pearl necklaces, situated in the middle of the waves, tinkle and sway in all directions of the ocean.

तरंगों के मध्य में स्थित लंबी मोती की मालाएँ, समुद्र की सभी दिशाओं में झनझनाती और हिलती हैं।

महेन्द्राद्रेर्गुहागेहपरावृत्तार्णवाध्वनाम् | भांकारिण्यो भुवः सिद्धसाध्यानां सुसुखावहः || २५ ||

mahendrādrerguhāgehaparāvṛttārṇavādhvanām | bhāṅkāriṇyo bhuvaḥ siddhasādhyānāṃ susukhāvahaḥ || 25 ||

English

The caves of Mount Mahendra, which are filled with the roaring sound of the ocean, bring great joy to the accomplished beings on earth.

महेंद्र पर्वत की गुफाएँ, जो समुद्र की गर्जना से भरी हैं, पृथ्वी पर सिद्ध पुरुषों को बहुत सुख देती हैं।

मन्दरः कन्दरोद्गीर्णैः प्रसरैर्मातरिश्वनः| कम्पाकुलवनाभोगः पुष्पमेघांस्तनोति खे || २६ ||

mandaraḥ kandarodgīrṇaiḥ prasarairmātariśvanaḥ| kampākulavanābhogaḥ puṣpameghāṃstanoti khe || 26 ||

English

The Mandara mountain, with its caves stirred by the gusts of wind, shakes the forest groves and spreads flower-like clouds in the sky.

मन्दर पर्वत, जिसकी गुफाएँ हवा के झोंकों से उठती हैं, जंगलों को हिलाता है और आकाश में फूलों जैसे बादल बिखेरता है।

चूतनीपकदम्बाढ्यगन्धमादनकन्दरान्| विशन्ति मेघहरिणास्तडित्तरललोचनाः || २७ ||

English

The cloud-deer, with eyes flickering like lightning, enter the caves of the Gandhamadana mountain, which are filled with the fragrance of mango blossoms, jasmine, and kadamba flowers.

बिजली की तरह चमकती आँखों वाले बादल-हिरण, गंधमादन पर्वत की गुफाओं में प्रवेश करते हैं, जो आम के फूल, चमेली और कदंब की सुगंध से भरी होती हैं।

English

The winds, stirred from the caves of the Himalayas, perform a dance with the creeping vines and spread the scattered waves of the ocean.

तात चूतकदम्बाग्रपरामर्शसुगन्धयः| वलयन्त्यब्धिकल्लोलान्गन्धमादनवायवः || २९ ||

English

O father, the winds of Gandhamadana, fragrant with the touch of the tips of mango blossoms and kadamba flowers, embrace the waves of the ocean.

हे पिता, गंधमादन की हवाएँ, जो आम के फूल और कदंब के फूलों के अग्रभाग के स्पर्श से सुगंधित होती हैं, समुद्र की लहरों को आलिंगन करती हैं।

English

The wind, which has taken the form of a garland of clouds, comes here, creating flower-like clouds in the forest paths.

English

The winds, which are sweet and fragrant like a cluster of jasmine flowers, mixed with the drops of dew, are blowing here.

नालिकेरलतालास्यलब्धतिक्तसुगन्धयः| पतन्ति पवनाः पश्य पारसीकपुरीः पुरा|| ३२ ||

English

See, the winds that have obtained the bitter fragrance from the faces of the coconut palm leaves are falling on the ancient Persian cities.

देखो, नारियल के पत्तों के मुख से कड़वी सुगंध प्राप्त करने वाली हवाएँ पुराने फारसी शहरों पर गिर रही हैं।

धुन्वानाः पुष्पितेशानवनकर्पूरवारिदान्| चालयन्तोऽनिला वान्ति कैलासकमलाकरान्|| ३३ ||

dhunvānāḥ puṣpiteśānavanakarpūravāridān| cālayanto’nilā vānti kailāsakamalākarān|| 33 ||

English

The winds, shaking the water droplets of camphor from the blooming forests of Ishana, are moving the lotuses of Kailasa.

हवाएँ, ईशान के खिले हुए वनों से कर्पूर की बूँदों को झकझोरती हुई, कैलास के कमलों को हिला रही हैं।

करीन्द्रकुम्भनिष्क्रान्तमदमन्थरमूर्तयः| इमे शुकशुकायन्ते विन्ध्यकन्दरवायवः|| ३४ ||

English

These winds, which have the gentle form of the intoxicating scent emanating from the temples of the elephant lords, are whispering in the caves of the Vindhya mountains.

In the bodies of the Shabari people, on the mountain with withered leaves, the forest appears like a city with arrows and leaf-like huts.

The directions, adorned with oceans, mountains, rivers, clouds, and forest lines, seem to laugh with your radiant rays, as if illuminated by the power of your heat.

अत्रोपशैलवनवीथिषु पुष्पशय्या विद्याधरीविरचिताः परिवर्णयन्ति पार्श्वद्वयस्थपरिवृत्तपदात्समुद्राद्व्यावृत्तमुग्धवनितापुरुषायितानि || ३७ ||

atropaśailavanavīthiṣu puṣpaśayyā vidyādharīviracitāḥ parivarṇayanti pārśvadvayasthaparivṛttapadātsamudrādvyāvṛttamugdhavanitāpuruṣāyitāni || 37 ||

English

Here, in the pathways of the mountains and forests, the flower beds created by the Vidyadharis describe the scenes. On both sides, from the revolving feet of the ocean, the naive women and men are depicted as if enchanted.
