English

Above, the deceitful one covered it with a network of intertwined branches, as if the sky in autumn with its empty web of threads.

dinaiḥ katipayaireva vāraṇo viharanvanetasminnipatitaḥ khāte śuṣkābdhāviva parvataḥ || 25 ||

English

After a few days, the elephant, while roaming in the forest, fell into the pit, like a mountain falling into a dried-up ocean.

English

While wandering in the terrifying depths of the well, which is like the fearful underworld, in the dry bottom of the well, in the pit of the elephant jewel.

English

Thus, he is firmly bound by the elephant keeper and remains there even today, suffering in the earthly abode like Bali.

English

Due to foolishness, a person suffers by not correcting the present actions and goes through the pain like the elephant of the Vindhya mountains.

English

The elephant, pleased with the thought 'I am freed from the weapon and chains,' is bound again even from a distance. Where does foolishness not cause trouble?

maurkhyam hi bandhanamavehi param mahatmanbaddho na baddha iti cetasi tadvimuktyai | atmodayam trijagadatmamayam samastam maurkhye sthitasya sahasa nanu sarvabhumih || 31 ||

English

Foolishness is indeed the greatest bondage, O great soul. One who is bound thinks 'I am not bound' for the sake of liberation from that. The rise of the self, which is the essence of the three worlds, is suddenly the entire earth for one who is situated in foolishness.
