श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | इति राजमुखाच्छ्रुत्वा वेतालः शान्तिमाययौ | भावितात्मतया तत्र विचारोचितया धिया || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | iti rājamukhācchrutvā vetālaḥ śāntimāyayau | bhāvitātmatayā tatra vicārochitayā dhiyā || 1 ||

English

Shri Vasishtha said: Having heard this from the king's mouth, the Vetala attained peace. With a purified mind and appropriate contemplation, he became calm.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: राजा के मुख से यह सुनकर वेताल शान्ति को प्राप्त हुआ | पवित्र मन और उचित विचार से वह शान्त हो गया |

उपशान्तमना भूत्वा मत्वैकान्तमनिन्दितम् | बभूवाविचलध्यानी विस्मृत्य विषमां क्षुधाम् || २ ||

upaśāntamanā bhūtvā matvaikāntamaninditam | babhūvāvicaladhyānī vismṛtya viṣamāṃ kṣudhām || 2 ||

English

Being calm-minded, considering the flawless solitude, he became steadfast in meditation, forgetting the intense hunger.

हिन्दी

शान्त मन होकर, दोषरहित एकान्त को मानकर, वह ध्यान में अविचल हो गया, तीव्र भूख को भूलकर |

एतद्राम मयोक्तं ते वेतालप्रश्नजालकम् | एवंक्रमेण चिदणौ तेनेदं संस्थितं जगत् || ३ ||

etadrāma mayoktaṃ te vetālapraśnajālakam | evaṃkrameṇa cidaṇau tenedaṃ saṃsthitaṃ jagat || 3 ||

English

O Rama, this web of questions by the Vetala has been told to you by me. In this way, through the sequence of consciousness, this world is established.

हिन्दी

हे राम, यह वेताल के प्रश्नों का जाल मैंने तुम्हें बताया है | इस प्रकार से, चेतना के क्रम से यह जगत स्थापित है |

चिदणोः कोशगं विश्वं विचारेण विलीयते | कायो वेतालकस्येव शिष्यते यत्पदं तु तत् || ४ ||

cidaṇoḥ kośagaṃ viśvaṃ vicāreṇa vilīyate | kāyo vetālakasyeva śiṣyate yatpadaṃ tu tat || 4 ||

English

The universe, which is the sheath of consciousness, dissolves through contemplation. Just as the body of the Vetala remains, that state is attained.

हिन्दी

चेतना का कोश जो यह विश्व है, विचार से विलीन हो जाता है | जैसे वेताल का शरीर शेष रहता है, वैसे ही वह पद प्राप्त होता है |

संहृत्य सर्वतश्चित्तं स्तिमितेनान्तरात्मना | स्वभावापतितं कुर्वन्निरिच्छं तिष्ठ शान्तधीः || ५ ||

saṃhṛtya sarvataścittaṃ stimitenāntarātmanā | svabhāvāpatitaṃ kurvanniricchaṃ tiṣṭha śāntadhīḥ || 5 ||

English

Withdrawing the mind from all sides, with a stilled inner self, act according to your nature, free from desires, and remain calm-minded.

हिन्दी

मन को सब ओर से वापस लेकर, स्थिर अन्तरात्मा के साथ, अपने स्वभाव के अनुसार कार्य करो, इच्छाओं से मुक्त होकर, और शान्त मन से रहो |

आकाशविशदं कृत्वा मनसैव मनो मुने | तिष्ठैकशमशान्तात्मा सर्वत्र समदर्शनः || ६ ||

ākāśaviśadaṃ kṛtvā manasaiva mano mune | tiṣṭhaikaśamaśāntātmā sarvatra samadarśanaḥ || 6 ||

English

O sage, make your mind as clear as the sky, and remain steadfast, with a peaceful mind, seeing everything equally.

हिन्दी

हे मुने, अपने मन को आकाश की तरह निर्मल करो और एकाग्र होकर शांत मन से सब कुछ समान दृष्टि से देखो।

स्थिरबुद्धिरसंमूढो यथाप्राप्तानुवर्तिनः | राज्ञो भगीरथस्येव दुःसाध्यमपि सिद्ध्यति || ७ ||

sthirabuddhirasaṃmūḍho yathāprāptānuvartinaḥ | rājño bhagīrathasyeva duḥsādhyamapi siddhyati || 7 ||

English

With a steady intellect and free from confusion, following the natural course of events, even the difficult becomes achievable, like King Bhagiratha.

संपूर्णशान्तमनसः परितृप्तवृत्तेर्नित्यं समे सुखमयात्मनि तिष्ठतोऽन्तः | सिद्ध्यन्ति दुर्लभतरा अपि वाञ्छितार्था गङ्गावतार इव सागरखातवस्तु || ८ ||

saṃpūrṇaśāntamanasaḥ paritṛptavṛtter nityaṃ same sukhamayātmani tiṣṭhato'ntaḥ | siddhyanti durlabhatarā api vāñchitārthā gaṅgāvatāra iva sāgarakhātavastu || 8 ||

English

For one whose mind is completely peaceful and content with the eternal, blissful self, even the most difficult desires are fulfilled, like the descent of the Ganges from the heavens to the ocean.

हिन्दी

जिसका मन पूर्णतः शांत और संतुष्ट है, और जो नित्य सुखमय आत्मा में स्थित है, उसके लिए सबसे कठिन इच्छाएँ भी पूरी हो जाती हैं, जैसे गंगा का स्वर्ग से समुद्र तक अवतरण।
