श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच । इत्युक्तवति वेताले वक्तुं प्रश्नान्विहस्य सः । उवाच वचनं राजा दन्तांशुधवलाम्बरः || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | ityuktavati vetāle vaktuṃ praśnānvihasya saḥ | uvāca vacanaṃ rājā dantāṃśudhavalāmbaraḥ || 1 ||

English

Shri Vasishtha said: After the Vetala had spoken thus, the king, laughing at the questions, spoke these words, clad in a garment as white as the rays of the moon.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: वेताल ने ऐसा कहा तो, राजा ने प्रश्नों पर हँसते हुए कहा, जो चाँद की किरणों जैसे सफेद वस्त्र पहने हुए थे।

राजोवाच । आस्ते कदाचिच्चेदं हि ब्रह्माण्डमजरं फलम् । उत्तरोत्तरं दशगुणभूतत्वक्परिवेष्टितम् || २ ||

rājovāca | āste kadāciccedaṃ hi brahmāṇḍamajaraṃ phalaṃ | uttarottaraṃ daśaguṇabhūtatvakpariveṣṭitam || 2 ||

English

The king said: Sometimes this imperishable Brahmanda fruit exists, enveloped by tenfold elemental coverings, one after another.

हिन्दी

राजा ने कहा: कभी-कभी यह अविनाशी ब्रह्माण्ड फल होता है, जो एक के बाद एक दस गुना तत्व आवरणों से घिरा हुआ है।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि फलानि यत्र सन्ति हि । अत्युच्चैस्तादृशी शाखा विपुला चलपल्लवा || ३ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi phalāni yatra santi hi | atyuccaitādṛśī śākhā vipulā calapallavā || 3 ||

English

Thousands of such fruits exist there, and there is a very tall branch, vast and with swaying leaves.

हिन्दी

वहाँ हजारों ऐसे फल हैं, और वहाँ एक बहुत ऊँची शाखा है, जो विशाल और हिलते पत्तों वाली है।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि शाखानां यत्र सन्त्यथ । तादृशोऽस्ति महावृक्षो दुर्लक्ष्यो विपुलाकृतिः || ४ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi śākhānāṃ yatra santyatha | tādṛśo'sti mahāvṛkṣo durlakṣyo vipulākṛtiḥ || 4 ||

English

Thousands of such branches exist there, and there is a great tree, difficult to see, with a vast form.

हिन्दी

वहाँ हजारों ऐसी शाखाएँ हैं, और वहाँ एक महान वृक्ष है, जो देखने में कठिन और विशाल आकार वाला है।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि यत्र सन्ति महीरुहाम् । तादृशं वनमत्युच्चैरनन्ततरुगुल्मकम् || ५ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi yatra santi mahīruhām | tādṛśaṃ vanamatyuccairanantatarugulmakam || 5 ||

English

Thousands of such trees exist there, and there is a forest, very tall and filled with endless trees and shrubs.

हिन्दी

वहाँ हजारों ऐसे वृक्ष हैं, और वहाँ एक वन है, जो बहुत ऊँचा और अनंत वृक्षों और झाड़ियों से भरा हुआ है।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि वनानां यत्र सन्त्यथ तादृगस्ति वृहच्छृङ्गमत्युच्चैर्भरिताकृति || ६ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi vanānāṃ yatra santyatha tādṛgasti vṛhacchṛṅgamatyuccairbharitākṛti || 6 ||

English

There are thousands of such forests, and there is a mountain with a very high peak.

हिन्दी

इस तरह के हजारों वन हैं, और वहाँ एक बहुत ऊँचा पर्वत है।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि श्रृङ्गाणां यत्र सन्त्यथ तादृशोऽस्त्यतिविस्तीर्णो देशो विपुलकोटरः || ७ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi śrṛṅgāṇāṃ yatra santyatha tādṛśo'styatividīrṇo deśo vipulakoṭaraḥ || 7 ||

English

There are thousands of such peaks, and there is a vast region with a wide expanse.

हिन्दी

इस तरह के हजारों शिखर हैं, और वहाँ एक विशाल क्षेत्र है जिसका विस्तार बहुत चौड़ा है।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि देशानां यत्र सन्त्यथ तादृगस्ति वृहद्द्वीपं महाह्रदनदीयुतम् || ८ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi deśānāṃ yatra santyatha tādṛgasti vṛhaddvīpaṃ mahāhradanadīyutam || 8 ||

English

There are thousands of such regions, and there is a great continent with large lakes and rivers.

इस तरह के हजारों क्षेत्र हैं, और वहाँ एक महान महाद्वीप है जिसमें बड़े झील और नदियाँ हैं।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि द्वीपानां यत्र सन्त्यथ तादृगस्ति महीपीठं विचित्ररचनान्वितम् || ९ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi dvīpānāṃ yatra santyatha tādṛgasti mahīpīṭhaṃ vicitraracanānvitam || 9 ||

English

There are thousands of such islands, and there is a great earth with intricate designs.

इस तरह के हजारों द्वीप हैं, और वहाँ एक महान पृथ्वी है जिसमें जटिल डिजाइन हैं।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि पृथ्वीनां यत्र सन्त्यथ तादृगस्ति महास्फारं महाभुवनडम्बरम् || १० ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi pṛthvīnāṃ yatra santyatha tādṛgasti mahāsphāraṃ mahābhuvanaḍambaram || 10 ||

English

There are thousands of such earths, and there is a great cosmos with a vast expanse.

हिन्दी

इस तरह की हजारों पृथ्वियाँ हैं, और वहाँ एक महान ब्रह्मांड है जिसका विस्तार बहुत बड़ा है।

तादृशानां सहस्त्राणि जगतां यत्र सन्त्यथ तादृगस्ति महच्चाण्डं चण्डमम्बरपीठवत् || ११ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahastrāṇi jagatāṃ yatra santyatha tādṛgasti mahaccāṇḍaṃ caṇḍamambarapīṭhavat || 11 ||

English

There are thousands of such worlds where there exists a great and fierce being like the sky.

हिन्दी

वहाँ ऐसे हजारों जगत हैं जहाँ एक महान और भयानक प्राणी है जो आकाश के समान है।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि यत्राण्डानि करण्डकाः तादृशोऽस्ति गतस्पन्दो विपुलाब्धिश्च सागरः || १२ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi yatrāṇḍāni karaṇḍakāḥ tādṛśo'sti gataspando vipulābdhiśca sāgaraḥ || 12 ||

English

There are thousands of such worlds where there are eggs and containers. There exists a motionless and vast ocean.

हिन्दी

वहाँ ऐसे हजारों जगत हैं जहाँ अण्डे और करण्डक हैं। वहाँ एक निश्चल और विशाल सागर है।

तादृक्सागरलक्षाणि तरङ्गो यत्र पेलवः तादृशः स्वविलासात्मा निर्मलोऽस्ति महार्णवः || १३ ||

tādṛksāgaralakṣāṇi taraṅgo yatra pelavaḥ tādṛśaḥ svavilāsātmā nirmalo'sti mahārṇavaḥ || 13 ||

English

There are millions of such oceans where the waves are gentle. There exists a pure and vast ocean that is self-manifested.

हिन्दी

वहाँ ऐसे करोड़ों सागर हैं जहाँ लहरें कोमल हैं। वहाँ एक शुद्ध और विशाल सागर है जो स्वयं प्रकट है।

तादृगब्धिसहस्राणि यस्योदरजलान्यथ तादृशोऽस्ति पुमान्कश्चिदत्युच्चैर्भरिताकृतिः || १४ ||

tādṛgabdhisahasrāṇi yasyodarajalānyatha tādṛśo'sti pumānkaścidatyuccairbharitākṛtiḥ || 14 ||

English

There are thousands of such oceans within his belly. There exists a man of immense stature who is filled with such qualities.

हिन्दी

उसके पेट में ऐसे हजारों सागर हैं। वहाँ एक विशाल आकार वाला पुरुष है जो ऐसे गुणों से भरा हुआ है।

तादृशानां नृणां लक्षैर्यस्य मालोरसि स्थिता प्रधानं सर्वसत्तानां तादृशोऽस्ति परः पुमान् || १५ ||

tādṛśānāṃ nṛṇāṃ lakṣairyasya mālorasi sthitā pradhānaṃ sarvasattānāṃ tādṛśo'sti paraḥ pumān || 15 ||

English

There are millions of such men on his chest. He is the supreme being among all beings.

हिन्दी

उसके वक्ष पर ऐसे लाखों पुरुष हैं। वह सभी प्राणियों में प्रधान है।

तादृशानां सहस्राणि पुरुषाणां महात्मनाम् | स्फुरन्ति मण्डले यस्य स्वतनूरुहजालवत् || १६ ||

tādṛśānāṃ sahasrāṇi puruṣāṇāṃ mahātmanām | sphuranti maṇḍale yasya svatanūruhajālavat || 16 ||

English

Thousands of such great souls shine in the circle of the one whose body is like a network of rays.

हिन्दी

ऐसे हजारों महात्माओं के मण्डल में वह चमकता है जिसका शरीर किरणों के जाल की तरह है।

17

तादृशोऽस्ति महादित्यः शतमन्यासु दृष्टिषु | या एताः कलनाः सर्वास्ता एतास्तस्य दीप्तयः || १७ ||

tādṛśo'sti mahādityaḥ śatamanyāsu dṛṣṭiṣu | yā etāḥ kalanāḥ sarvāstā etāstasya dīptayaḥ || 17 ||

English

There is such a great sun, and in hundreds of other views, all these calculations are its radiances.

हिन्दी

ऐसा एक महान सूर्य है, और सैकड़ों अन्य दृष्टिकोणों में, ये सभी गणनाएँ उसकी चमक हैं।

अस्यादित्यस्य दीप्तीनां ब्रह्माण्डास्त्रसरेणवः | मया चित्सूर्य इत्युक्तः सर्वमेतत्तपत्यसौ || १८ ||

asyādityasya dīptīnāṃ brahmāṇḍāstrasareṇavaḥ | mayā citsūrya ityuktaḥ sarvametattapatyasau || 18 ||

English

The radiances of this sun are the trembling drops of the universe. I have called it the conscious sun; all this shines because of it.

हिन्दी

इस सूर्य की चमक ब्रह्मांड की काँपती बूँदें हैं। मैंने इसे चेतन सूर्य कहा है; यह सब इसके कारण चमकता है।

विज्ञानात्मैव परमो भास्करो भाविताशयः | इमे ये भुवनाभोगास्तस्यैव त्रसरेणवः || १९ ||

vijñānātmaiva paramo bhāskaro bhāvitāśayaḥ | ime ye bhuvanābhogāstasyaiva trasareṇavaḥ || 19 ||

English

The supreme sun is the self of consciousness, with a purified mind. These worldly enjoyments are its trembling drops.

हिन्दी

परम सूर्य चेतना का स्वयं है, जिसका मन शुद्ध है। ये सांसारिक भोग उसकी काँपती बूँदें हैं।

विज्ञानपरमार्कस्य भासा भान्ति भवन्ति च | इमा जगदहर्लक्ष्म्यः क्वचिल्लक्ष्म्यो रवेरिव || २० ||

vijñānaparamārkasya bhāsā bhānti bhavanti ca | imā jagadaharlakṣmyaḥ kvacillakṣmyo raveriva || 20 ||

English

The radiances of the supreme sun of consciousness shine and manifest. These worldly splendors are sometimes like the splendors of the sun.

हिन्दी

चेतना के परम सूर्य की चमक चमकती है और प्रकट होती है। ये सांसारिक शोभाएँ कभी-कभी सूर्य की शोभा की तरह होती हैं।

विज्ञानमात्रकचितात्मनि जन्तुजाते त्रैलोक्यमण्डपमणेरविकासभाजि | चिज्जन्मनोर्भवनसंभ्रमतावलेखाः सन्तीह रे न हि मनागपि शान्तमास्स्व || २१ ||

vijñānamātrakacitātmani jantujāte trailokyamaṇḍapamaṇeravikāsabhāji | cijjanmanorbhavanasambhramatāvalekhāḥ santīha re na hi manāgapi śāntamāssva || 21 ||

English

In the living beings whose essence is pure consciousness, the manifestation of the universe is merely an illusion. The lines of confusion between the birth of consciousness and the worldly existence are present here, O friend, and there is no peace even for a moment.

जीवों में जिनका स्वरूप शुद्ध चेतना है, ब्रह्मांड का विकास केवल एक भ्रम है। चेतना के जन्म और संसारिक अस्तित्व के बीच भ्रम की रेखाएँ यहाँ मौजूद हैं, हे मित्र, और एक पल के लिए भी शांति नहीं है।
