श्रीराम उवाच । ज्ञातं ज्ञातव्यमखिलं दृष्टं द्रष्टव्यमक्षतम् । परेण परिपूर्णाः स्मो ब्रह्मज्ञानामृतेन ते || १ ||

śrīrāma uvāca | jñātaṃ jñātavyamakhilaṃ dṛṣṭaṃ drṣṭavyamakṣatam | pareṇa paripūrṇāḥ smo brahmajñānāmṛtena te || 1 ||

English

Shri Ram said: We have known all that is to be known, seen all that is to be seen. We are fully satisfied with the nectar of Brahmajnana (knowledge of Brahman).

हिन्दी

श्रीराम ने कहा: हमने जानने योग्य सभी कुछ जान लिया है, देखने योग्य सभी कुछ देख लिया है। हम ब्रह्मज्ञान के अमृत से पूर्ण हैं।

पूर्णात्पूर्णमिदं पूर्णं पूर्णात्पूर्णं प्रसूयते । पूर्णेनापूरितं पूर्णं स्थिता पूर्णे च पूर्णता || २ ||

pūrṇātpūrṇamidaṃ pūrṇaṃ pūrṇātpūrṇaṃ prasūyate | pūrṇenāpūritaṃ pūrṇaṃ sthitā pūrṇe ca pūrṇatā || 2 ||

English

From the full, the full is born; from the full, the full is taken away. The full remains full even when the full is taken away from it.

हिन्दी

पूर्ण से पूर्ण उत्पन्न होता है, पूर्ण से पूर्ण निकलता है। पूर्ण से पूर्ण निकलने पर भी पूर्ण पूर्ण ही रहता है।

लीलयेदं तु पृच्छामि भूयोबोधाभिवृद्धये । बालस्येव पिता ब्रह्मन्न कोपं कर्तुमर्हसि || ३ ||

līlayedaṃ tu pṛcchāmi bhūyobodhābhivṛddhaye | bālasyeva pitā brahmanna kopaṃ kartumarhasi || 3 ||

English

I ask this out of curiosity for the increase of knowledge. O Brahman, like a father to a child, you should not be angry.

हिन्दी

मैं ज्ञान की वृद्धि के लिए उत्सुकता से यह पूछता हूँ। हे ब्रह्मन्, बालक के पिता की तरह तुम्हें क्रोध नहीं करना चाहिए।

श्रोत्रं चक्षुः स्पर्शनं च रसनं घ्राणमेव च । विद्यमानमपि ब्रह्मन्दृश्यमानमपि स्फुटम् || ४ ||

śrotraṃ cakṣuḥ sparśanaṃ ca rasanaṃ ghrāṇameva ca | vidyamānamapi brahmandṛśyamānamapi sphuṭam || 4 ||

English

The ears, the eyes, the sense of touch, the sense of taste, and the sense of smell are all present and clearly visible.

हिन्दी

कान, आँखें, स्पर्श इंद्रिय, स्वाद इंद्रिय और घ्राण इंद्रिय सभी उपस्थित हैं और स्पष्ट रूप से दिखाई देते हैं।

कथं मृतस्य वै जन्तोर्विषयं स्वं न पश्यति । जीवतश्च कथं सर्वं विषयं स्वं प्रपश्यति || ५ ||

kathaṃ mṛtasya vai jantorviṣayaṃ svaṃ na paśyati | jīvataśca kathaṃ sarvaṃ viṣayaṃ svaṃ prapaśyati || 5 ||

English

How does the dead person not see his own senses? And how does the living person see all his senses?

हिन्दी

मृत व्यक्ति अपनी इंद्रियों को कैसे नहीं देखता? और जीवित व्यक्ति अपनी सभी इंद्रियों को कैसे देखता है?

कथं घटादिबाह्यत्वमिन्द्रियाणि जडान्यपिशरीरेऽनुभवन्त्यन्तःपुनर्नानुभवन्त्यपि || ६ ||

kathaṃ ghaṭādibāhyatvamindriyāṇi jaḍānyapiśarīre'nubhavantyantaḥpunarnānubhavantyapi || 6 ||

English

How do the senses, which are inert, experience the external objects like pots, etc., in the body, but do not experience them internally?

कैसे इन्द्रियाँ, जो जड़ हैं, शरीर में घट आदि बाह्य वस्तुओं का अनुभव करती हैं, लेकिन अंतःकरण में उनका अनुभव नहीं करतीं?

अयःशलाकोपमयोर्घटादीन्द्रिययोः किलाश्लिष्टयोरन्तरसौ कथं तन्नोदिता मिथः || ७ ||

ayaḥśalākopamayorghaṭādīndriyayoḥ kilaaśliṣṭayorantarasau kathaṃ tannoditā mithaḥ || 7 ||

English

How do the senses, which are like iron rods and pots, being closely connected, not stimulate each other?

हिन्दी

लोहे की सलाख और घट की तरह इन्द्रियाँ, जो घनिष्ठ रूप से जुड़ी हुई हैं, एक-दूसरे को कैसे उत्तेजित नहीं करतीं?

जानन्नपि यदेतान्वै विशेषाञ्छतधा पुनःपृच्छामि तदशेषेण कथयस्वानुकम्पया || ८ ||

jānannapi yadetānvai viśeṣāñchatadhā punaḥpṛcchāmi tadaśeṣeṇa kathayasvānukampayā || 8 ||

English

Even though I know these distinctions in various ways, I ask again with compassion, please explain them in detail.

हिन्दी

यद्यपि मैं इन विशेषताओं को विभिन्न तरीकों से जानता हूँ, फिर भी दया से पूछता हूँ, कृपया इन्हें विस्तार से समझाएँ।

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाचैन्द्रियाद्यपि चित्तादि घटाद्यपि न किंचन पृथक् संभवतीहाङ्ग निर्मलाच्चेतनादृते || ९ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvācaindriyādyapi cittādi ghaṭādyapi na kiṃcana pṛthak saṃbhavatīhāṅga nirmalāccetanādṛte || 9 ||

English

Vasishtha said: Even the senses and the mind, pots, etc., do not exist separately without the pure consciousness.

हिन्दी

वसिष्ठ ने कहा: इन्द्रियाँ और मन, घट आदि, शुद्ध चेतना के बिना अलग से नहीं होते।

गगनादपि याऽच्छा चित्तया रूपं स्वमात्मनाचित्त्वात्पुर्यष्टकत्वेन भाववृत्त्यैव भावितम् || १० ||

gaganādapi yā'cchā cittayā rūpaṃ svamātmanācittvātpuryaṣṭakatvena bhāvavṛttyaiva bhāvitam || 10 ||

English

Even the desire arising from the sky, by the mind, takes the form of its own self, due to the nature of consciousness, as the eight-fold city.

हिन्दी

आकाश से उत्पन्न इच्छा, मन द्वारा, अपने स्वरूप का रूप लेती है, चेतना की प्रकृति के कारण, आठ-भुजा नगर के रूप में।

तदेव च प्रकृतितां गतं जगदवस्थितेःतस्या अवयवाज्जातमिन्द्रियादि घटादि च || ११ ||

tadeva ca prakṛtitāṃ gataṃ jagadavasthiteḥtasyā avayavājjātamindriyādi ghaṭādi ca || 11 ||

English

That very universe has become of the nature of Prakriti, and from its elements, the senses and objects like pots, etc., have arisen.

हिन्दी

वही ब्रह्मांड प्रकृति के स्वभाव का हो गया है, और उसके तत्वों से इन्द्रियाँ और घड़े आदि वस्तुएँ उत्पन्न हुई हैं।

पुर्यष्टकत्वमायातं यच्चित्तं स्वस्वभावतःस्व एवावयवस्तस्मिन्घटादि प्रतिबिम्बति || १२ ||

puryaṣṭakatvamāyātaṃ yaccittaṃ svasvabhāvataḥsva evāvayavastasminghaṭādi pratibimbati || 12 ||

English

The mind, which has become the eightfold city, reflects its own elements in the form of pots, etc., due to its own nature.

हिन्दी

मन, जो अष्टकोण नगर बन गया है, अपने स्वभाव के कारण घड़े आदि के रूप में अपने तत्वों को प्रतिबिम्बित करता है।

श्रीराम उवाचजगत्सहस्रनिर्माणमहिम्नो दर्पणस्य चपुर्यष्टकस्य भगवन्रूपं कथय कीदृशम || १३ ||

śrīrāma uvācajagatsahasranirmāṇamahimno darpaṇasya capuryaṣṭakasya bhagavanrūpaṃ kathaya kīdṛśam || 13 ||

English

Sri Rama said: O Lord, describe the nature of the reflection of the thousandfold creation of the universe in the mirror of the eightfold city.

हिन्दी

श्री राम ने कहा: हे भगवान, अष्टकोण नगर के दर्पण में ब्रह्मांड की हजारों रचनाओं के महिमा का प्रतिबिम्ब कैसा है, यह बताएँ।

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाचानाद्यन्तं जगद्बीजं यद्ब्रह्मास्ति निरामयम्भारूपं शुद्धचिन्मात्रं कलाकलनवर्जितम || १४ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvācaanādyantaṃ jagadbījaṃ yadbrahmāsti nirāmayambhārūpaṃ śuddhacinmātraṃ kalākalanavarjitam || 14 ||

English

Sri Vasistha said: That which is the seed of the universe, without beginning or end, is Brahman, flawless, of the nature of pure consciousness, devoid of parts and divisions.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: जो ब्रह्मांड का बीज है, जिसका न आदि है न अंत, वह ब्रह्म है, जो दोषरहित, शुद्ध चेतना के स्वभाव का, भागों और विभाजनों से रहित है।

कलानोन्मुखतां यातमन्तर्जीव इति स्मृतःस जीवः खलु देहेऽस्मिन्चिनोति स्पन्दते स्फुटम || १५ ||

kalanonmukhatāṃ yātamantarjīva iti smṛtaḥsa jīvaḥ khalu dehe'smiṃścinoti spandate sphuṭam || 15 ||

English

That which has turned towards the parts is known as the inner self. That self indeed, in this body, clearly thinks and pulsates.

हिन्दी

जो भागों की ओर मुड़ गया है, वह अंतर्जीव कहलाता है। वह आत्मा इस शरीर में स्पष्ट रूप से सोचता और धड़कता है।

अहंभावादहंकारो मननान्मन उच्यतेबोधनिश्चयतो बुद्धिरिन्द्रदृष्टेस्तथेन्द्रियम् || १६ ||

ahaṃbhāvādahaṃkāro mananānmana ucyatebodhaniścayato buddhirindradṛṣṭestathendriyam || 16 ||

English

From the sense of 'I', ego arises; from thought, the mind is said to be. From certainty of knowledge, intellect; and from the sight of Indra, thus the sense.

हिन्दी

अहं भाव से अहंकार उत्पन्न होता है; मनन से मन कहलाता है। ज्ञान की निश्चयता से बुद्धि; और इन्द्र के दर्शन से, इस प्रकार इन्द्रिय।

देहभावनया देहो घटभावनया घटःएष एव स्वभावात्मा जनैः पुर्यष्टकं स्मृतः || १७ ||

dehabhāvanayā deho ghaṭabhāvanayā ghaṭaḥeṣa eva svabhāvātmā janaiḥ puryaṣṭakaṃ smṛtaḥ || 17 ||

English

By the conception of the body, the body exists; by the conception of a pot, the pot exists. This very nature of the self is remembered by people as the eightfold city.

हिन्दी

देह की भावना से देह होता है; घड़े की भावना से घड़ा होता है। यही आत्मा का स्वभाव है जिसे लोग आठ पुरियों के रूप में याद करते हैं।

ज्ञत्वकर्तृत्वभोक्तृत्वसाक्षित्वाद्यभिपातिनीया संविज्जीव इत्युक्ता तद्धि पुर्यष्टकं विदुः || १८ ||

jñatvakartṛtvabhoktṛtvasākṣitvādyabhipātinīyā saṃvijjīva ityuktā taddhi puryaṣṭakaṃ viduḥ || 18 ||

English

That which is called the knower, doer, enjoyer, witness, etc., is known as the living being. That indeed is known as the eightfold city.

हिन्दी

जो ज्ञाता, कर्ता, भोक्ता, साक्षी आदि कहलाता है, वह जीव कहलाता है। वही आठ पुरियों के रूप में जाना जाता है।

काले काले ततो जीवस्त्वन्योन्यो भवति स्वतःभाविताकारयानन्तवासनाकणिकोदयम् || १९ ||

kāle kāle tato jīvastvanyonyo bhavati svataḥbhāvitākārayānantavāsanākaṇikodayam || 19 ||

English

From time to time, the living being becomes different due to its own nature, arising from the endless particles of impressions.

हिन्दी

समय-समय पर, जीव अपने स्वभाव के कारण भिन्न-भिन्न हो जाता है, जो अनन्त संस्कारों के कणों से उत्पन्न होता है।

पुर्यष्टकस्वभावेन कालेनाकारमृच्छतियथावासनतः सेकाद्बीजं पल्लवतामिव || २० ||

puryaṣṭakasvabhāvena kālenākāramṛcchatiyathāvāsanataḥ sekādbījaṃ pallavatāmiva || 20 ||

English

Due to the nature of the eightfold city, over time, it assumes various forms, just as a seed sprouts into a sapling due to irrigation.

हिन्दी

आठ पुरियों के स्वभाव के कारण, समय के साथ, यह विभिन्न रूप धारण करता है, जैसे कि सिंचाई के कारण बीज अंकुरित होकर पौधा बन जाता है।

आकारोऽहं शरीरादि स्थावरादि चरादि च नाहमाद्यश्चिदात्मेति मिथ्या ज्ञानेन चेतति || २१ ||

ākāro'haṃ śarīrādi sthāvarādi carādi canāhamādyaścidātmeti mithyā jñānena cetati || 21 ||

English

I am the form, the body, the immovable, the movable, and so on. I am not the pure consciousness. This is false knowledge.

हिन्दी

मैं आकार हूँ, शरीर हूँ, स्थावर हूँ, चर हूँ और इसी तरह के अन्य भी हूँ। मैं शुद्ध चेतना नहीं हूँ। यह मिथ्या ज्ञान है।

भ्रमत्येव जगज्जीवो वासनावलितश्चिरमूर्ध्वाधोगमनैरभ्दौ काष्ठं वीचिहतं यथा || २२ ||

bhramatyeva jagajjīvo vāsanāvalitaściramūrdhvādhogamanairabdhau kāṣṭhaṃ vīcihataṃ yathā || 22 ||

English

The individual soul wanders in the world, covered by desires, like a piece of wood tossed by the waves.

हिन्दी

जीव आत्मा वासनाओं से ढका हुआ जगत में भटकता है, जैसे लहरों से उछाला जाने वाला काष्ठ।

कश्चिद्विशुद्धजातित्वाद्भवबन्धादनन्तरम्बुद्ध्वात्मानं समभ्येति पदमाद्यन्तवर्जितम् || २३ ||

kaścidviśuddhajātitvādbhavabandhādanantarambuddhvātmānaṃ samabhyeti padamādyantavarjitam || 23 ||

English

Someone, due to being born pure, attains the state of the self, which is beyond the beginning and the end, immediately after the bondage of existence.

हिन्दी

कोई शुद्ध जन्म के कारण, अस्तित्व के बंधन के बाद तुरंत ही आदि और अंत से परे आत्मा की स्थिति को प्राप्त करता है।

कश्चित्कालेन बहुना भुक्तयोनिगणातुरः आत्मज्ञानवशादेति परमं पदमात्मनः || २४ ||

kaścitkālena bahunā bhuktayonigaṇāturaḥātmajñānavaśādeti paramaṃ padamātmanaḥ || 24 ||

English

Someone, after a long time, suffering from many births, attains the supreme state of the self due to self-knowledge.

हिन्दी

कोई, लंबे समय के बाद, अनेक जन्मों से पीड़ित होकर, आत्मज्ञान के कारण आत्मा की परम स्थिति को प्राप्त करता है।

एवंरूपश्च सुमते जीवो यातः शरीरताम्नेत्रादिना घटाद्यन्तर्यथा वेत्ति तथा शृणु || २५ ||

evaṃrūpaśca sumate jīvo yātaḥ śarīratāmnetrādinā ghaṭādyantaryathā vetti tathā śrṛṇu || 25 ||

English

O wise one, the individual soul, having attained the form of the body, knows the inner workings of the body, just as one knows the inside of a pot through the eyes.

हिन्दी

हे बुद्धिमान, जीव आत्मा, शरीर का रूप प्राप्त करने के बाद, शरीर के अंतर्गत कार्यों को जानता है, जैसे कि नेत्रों द्वारा घड़े के अंदर को जाना जाता है।

चित्त्वस्य कलनान्तस्य संप्रयातस्य जीवताम्मनःषष्ठेन्द्रियग्रामो देहोऽयमवतिष्ठते || २६ ||

cittvasya kalanāntasya saṃprayātasya jīvatāmmanaḥṣaṣṭhendriyagrāmo deho'yamavatiṣṭhate || 26 ||

English

This body, which is the collection of the six senses including the mind, remains established in the living being whose consciousness has been completely dissolved.

हिन्दी

यह देह, जो मन सहित छह इन्द्रियों का समूह है, उस जीव में स्थित रहता है जिसकी चेतना पूर्णतः विलीन हो चुकी है।

यदान्यः सर्वदेहेभ्यः खे पतत्यक्षरूपिणातदा तज्जीवसंस्पर्शाज्जीवात्मैकत्वमृच्छति || २७ ||

yadānyaḥ sarvadehebhyaḥ khe patatyakṣarūpiṇātadā tajjīvasaṃsparśājjīvātmaikatvamṛcchati || 27 ||

English

When a different being falls from all bodies into the ether in the form of space, then by the touch of that being, the individual soul attains oneness.

हिन्दी

जब कोई अन्य जीव सभी देहों से आकाश में आकाश रूप में गिरता है, तब उस जीव के स्पर्श से व्यक्तिगत आत्मा एकत्व प्राप्त करती है।

बाह्यार्थवेदने नित्यं संबन्धोऽक्षस्य कारकःसमन्वितस्य चित्तेन न मुक्तस्य कदाचन || २८ ||

bāhyārthavedane nityaṃ saṃbandho'kṣasya kārakaḥsamanvitasya cittena na muktasya kadācana || 28 ||

English

The connection with the ether is always the cause of the perception of external objects, but never for the one who is liberated with a controlled mind.

हिन्दी

आकाश के साथ संबंध हमेशा बाह्य वस्तुओं के बोध का कारण होता है, लेकिन कभी नहीं उसके लिए जिसका मन नियंत्रित है और जो मुक्त है।

यद्यदच्छतरं तस्मिन्नभःस्थं प्रतिबिम्बतिजीवेन भवति श्लिष्टो बहिर्जीवोऽप्यजीवति || २९ ||

yadyadacchataraṃ tasminnabhaḥsthaṃ pratibimbatijīvena bhavati śliṣṭo bahirjīvo'pyajīvati || 29 ||

English

Whatever is reflected in the ether within the being, the external being also appears to be alive due to its connection with the being.

हिन्दी

जो कुछ भी जीव में आकाश में प्रतिबिंबित होता है, बाहरी जीव भी जीव के साथ उसके संबंध के कारण जीवित प्रतीत होता है।

निघृष्टनवरत्नाभे यदा नयनतारकेतदा तयोर्बाह्यगतः पदार्थः प्रतिबिम्बति || ३० ||

nighṛṣṭanavaratnābhe yadā nayanatāraketadā tayorbāhyagataḥ padārthaḥ pratibimbati || 30 ||

English

When the eye is like a polished gem, then the external object is reflected in it.

हिन्दी

जब नेत्र एक चमकीले रत्न की तरह होता है, तब बाहरी वस्तु उसमें प्रतिबिंबित होती है।

जीवेन भवति श्लिष्टः प्रतिबिम्बतया ततःजीवज्ञेयत्वमायाति बाह्यं वस्त्विति राघव || ३१ ||

jīvena bhavati śliṣṭaḥ pratibimbatayā tataḥjīvajñeyatvamāyāti bāhyaṃ vastviti rāghava || 31 ||

English

The living being becomes attached to the reflection, and thus the knowable object becomes known as an external entity, O Raghava.

हिन्दी

जीव प्रतिबिम्ब के रूप में जुड़ जाता है, और इस प्रकार ज्ञेय वस्तु बाह्य वस्तु के रूप में जानी जाती है, हे रघुवंशी।

यत्संश्लेषमुपायाति तद्बालोऽपि हि विन्दतिपशुर्वा स्थावरो वापि जीवः कस्मान्न वेत्स्यति || ३२ ||

yatsaṃśleṣamupāyāti tadbālo'pi hi vindatipaśurvā sthāvaro vāpi jīvaḥ kasmānna vetsyati || 32 ||

English

Whatever one attains through attachment, even a child or an animal or a stationary being can perceive it. Why should the living being not know it?

हिन्दी

जो कुछ भी आसक्ति के द्वारा प्राप्त होता है, उसे Even a child or an animal or a stationary being can perceive it. जीव उसे क्यों नहीं जान सकता?

अच्छस्य नयनस्याथो रश्मयो जीववेष्टिताःक्रोडीकुर्वन्त्यलं दृश्यं जीवस्तत्त्वेन विन्दति || ३३ ||

acchasya nayanasyātho raśmayo jīvaveṣṭitāḥkroḍīkurvantyalaṃ dṛśyaṃ jīvastattvena vindati || 33 ||

English

The rays of the pure eye, being enveloped by the living being, make the visible sufficient. The living being perceives it as reality.

हिन्दी

शुद्ध नेत्र की किरणें, जीव द्वारा आवृत होकर, दृश्य को पर्याप्त बनाती हैं। जीव उसे वास्तविकता के रूप में ग्रहण करता है।

एष एव क्रमः स्पर्शे संबन्धः प्रत्ययोद्भवःरसे गन्धे च कथितो जीवसंस्पर्शसंभवः || ३४ ||

eṣa eva kramaḥ sparśe saṃbandhaḥ pratyayodbhavaḥrase gandhe ca kathito jīvasaṃsparśasaṃbhavaḥ || 34 ||

English

This is the same process in touch, the connection arises from perception. It is also said in taste and smell, the contact with the living being.

हिन्दी

यह स्पर्श में भी वही क्रम है, संबंध ग्रहण से उत्पन्न होता है। स्वाद और गंध में भी यह कहा गया है, जीव का संपर्क।

शब्दस्त्वाकाशनिष्ठत्वात्कर्णाकाशगतः क्षणात्जीवाकाशं विशत्यन्तरित्थमिन्द्रियसंविदः || ३५ ||

śabdastvākāśaniṣṭhatvātkarṇākāśagataḥ kṣaṇātjīvākāśaṃ viśatyantaritthamindriyasaṃvidaḥ || 35 ||

English

Sound, being situated in space, instantly enters the space of the ear and then the space of the living being, thus becoming the object of sense perception.

हिन्दी

ध्वनि, आकाश में स्थित होने के कारण, तुरंत कान के आकाश में प्रवेश करती है और फिर जीव के आकाश में प्रवेश करती है, इस प्रकार इंद्रिय ग्रहण का विषय बन जाती है।

श्रीराम उवाच दृश्यते मानसादर्शे यन्त्रदार्वोदरेषु तत्। प्रतिबिम्बितमेतन्मे ब्रूहि ब्रह्मन्किमात्मकम् || ३६ ||

śrīrāma uvāca dṛśyate mānasādarśe yantradārvaudareṣu tat pratibimbitametanme brūhi brahmankimātmakam || 36 ||

English

Śrī Rāma said, It is seen in the mirror of the mind, in the hollow of machines and wooden instruments. This reflection of mine, tell me, O Brahman, what is its nature?

हिन्दी

श्रीराम ने कहा, यह मन के दर्पण में, यंत्रों और लकड़ी के खोखले उपकरणों में दिखाई देता है। यह मेरा प्रतिबिम्ब है, हे ब्रह्मन्, बताओ, इसका स्वरूप क्या है?

अत्यन्तजडयोरेव जीवयोरिव तन्मिथः प्रतिबिम्बं दृशो भ्रान्ति विद्धि वेद्यविदां वर || ३७ ||

atyantajaḍayoreva jīvayoriva tanmithaḥ pratibimbaṃ dṛśo bhrānti viddhi vedyavidāṃ vara || 37 ||

English

Know this reflection of the two, the utterly inert and the living, to be a delusion of sight, O best among the knowers of the knowable.

हे जानने वालों में श्रेष्ठ, इस अत्यंत जड़ और जीव के मिथ्या प्रतिबिम्ब को दृष्टि की भ्रान्ति जानो।

तावन्मात्रं जगत्त्वेतद्विश्वासो मा तवास्त्विह अहमित्यादिस्तरङ्गो वर्तमानं सदा जलम् || ३८ ||

tāvanmātraṃ jagattvetadviśvāso mā tavāstviha ahamityādistaraṅgo vartamānaṃ sadā jalam || 38 ||

English

This world is merely so much, a belief; let not this conviction of 'I am' be yours here. The waves of 'I' and 'this' ever arise and subside in the water of existence.

हिन्दी

यह जगत मात्र एक विश्वास है; यहाँ 'मैं हूँ' का यह भाव तुम्हारा न हो। 'मैं' और 'यह' के ये तरंग सदा अस्तित्व रूपी जल में उठते और गिरते रहते हैं।

पराम्बोधौ तु नास्त्येव देशकालक्रियादिकम् तन्मयैकतया नित्यमात्मा सर्वत्र सर्वगः || ३९ ||

parāmbhodhau tu nāstyeva deśakālakriyādikam tanmayaikatayā nityamātmā sarvatra sarvagaḥ || 39 ||

English

In the supreme Consciousness, there is truly no trace of place, time, action, or any such distinctions. The Self, ever one with That, is eternal and all-pervading everywhere.

हिन्दी

परम बोध में देश, काल, क्रिया आदि का कोई अस्तित्व नहीं है। आत्मा सदा उसी के साथ एकरूप होकर नित्य और सर्वव्यापी है।

नित्यमसक्तमतिर्मुदितात्मा शान्तमृषासुखदुःखविदन्तः । तिष्ठ निविष्टमतिः समतायामस्तसमस्तभवामयमायः || ४० ||

nityamāsaktamatirmuditātmā śāntamṛṣāsukhaduḥkhavidantaḥ tiṣṭha niviṣṭamatiḥ samatāyāmastasamastabhavāmayamāyaḥ || 40 ||

English

Ever unattached, the mind delighted in the Self, the sage abides in peace, knowing joy and sorrow. With his mind fixed in equanimity, he remains free from the disease of all becoming.

हिन्दी

जो सदा अनासक्त मन वाला है, आत्मा में प्रसन्न है, शान्त मुनि सुख-दुःख को जानता हुआ समभाव में स्थित रहता है। वह समस्त संसार रूपी रोग से मुक्त हो जाता है।
