श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | एतदुक्तं परं तेन स्वयमेव च वेद्म्यहम् | राम त्वमपि जानीषे यथेदं समवस्थितम् || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | etaduktaṃ paraṃ tena svayameva ca vedmyaham | rāma tvamapi jānīṣe yathedaṃ samavasthitam || 1 ||

English

Shri Vasishtha said: This has been said by Him, and I myself know it | Rama, you also know how this is established

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: यह उसने कहा है, और मैं स्वयं भी जानता हूँ | हे राम, तुम भी जानते हो कि यह कैसे स्थापित है

यत्रालीकमलीकेन किलालीके विलोक्यते | तस्यां संसारमायायां किं सत्यं किमसन्मयम् || २ ||

yatrālīkamalīkena kilālīke vilokyate | tasyāṃ saṃsāramāyāyāṃ kiṃ satyaṃ kimasanmayam || 2 ||

English

Where a mirage is seen in a mirage, in that worldly illusion, what is true and what is untrue?

हिन्दी

जहाँ एक मृगतृष्णा दूसरी मृगतृष्णा में दिखाई देती है, उस संसारिक माया में, क्या सत्य है और क्या असत्य है?

यथा येन विकल्पेन यद्विकल्पेन कथ्यते | तथा तेनात्मकल्पेन नगताऽप्यनुभूयते || ३ ||

yathā yena vikalpena yadvikalpena kathyate | tathā tenātmakalpena nagatā'pyanubhūyate || 3 ||

English

Just as whatever is described by any concept, it is experienced by that very concept of the self

जैसे जिस विकल्प से कोई चीज वर्णित की जाती है, वैसे ही उसी आत्म-विकल्प से उसका अनुभव होता है

यथा द्रवत्वं पयसि यथा स्पन्दो नभस्वति | यथा नभसि शून्यत्वं तथा सर्गत्वमात्मनि || ४ ||

yathā dravatvaṃ payasi yathā spando nabhasvati | yathā nabhasi śūnyatvaṃ tathā sargatvamātmani || 4 ||

English

Just as liquidity is in water, just as vibration is in the sky, just as emptiness is in the sky, so is the creation in the self

हिन्दी

जैसे द्रवता पानी में होती है, जैसे कंपन आकाश में होता है, जैसे शून्यता आकाश में होती है, वैसे ही सृष्टि आत्मा में होती है

ततः प्रभृति तेनैव क्रमेणार्चनमात्मनः | अद्य यावद्गतव्यग्रः कुर्वन्नहमवस्थितः || ५ ||

tataḥ prabhṛti tenaiva kramenārcanamātmanaḥ | adya yāvadgatavyagraḥ kurvannahamavasthitaḥ || 5 ||

English

From then on, by that very process, I have been engaged in the worship of the self | Today, I am established in that state, doing what needs to be done

तब से, उसी प्रक्रिया से, मैं आत्मा की पूजा में लगा हूँ | आज, मैं उसी अवस्था में स्थापित हूँ, जो करना है वह करते हुए

अनेनार्चाविधानेन मयेमे राम वासराः | अखिन्नेनातिवाह्यन्ते व्यवहारपरा अपि || ६ ||

anenārcāvidhānena mayeme rāma vāsarāḥ | akhinnenātivāhyante vyavahāraparā api || 6 ||

English

By this method of worship, O Rama, I pass my days without fatigue, even while engaged in worldly affairs.

हिन्दी

इस पूजा विधि से, हे राम, मैं व्यवहार में लगे हुए भी थके बिना अपने दिन बिताता हूँ।

यथाप्राप्तैः क्रियाचारकुसुमैरात्मनोऽर्चनम् | व्युच्छिन्नमपि व्युच्छिन्नं न कदाचिदहर्निशम् || ७ ||

yathāprāptaiḥ kriyācārakusumairātmano'rcanam | vyucchinnamapi vyucchinnaṃ na kadācidaharniśam || 7 ||

English

Worship of the self with whatever actions, conduct, and flowers are available, even if interrupted, is never discontinued day or night.

हिन्दी

जो भी क्रियाएँ, आचरण और फूल उपलब्ध हों, उनसे आत्मा की पूजा की जाती है, भले ही वह बाधित हो, कभी भी दिन-रात रुकती नहीं।

ग्राह्यग्राहकसंबन्धे सामान्ये सर्वदेहिनाम् | योगिनः सावधानत्वं यत्तदर्चनमात्मनः || ८ ||

grāhyagrāhakasaṃbandhe sāmānye sarvadehinām | yoginaḥ sāvadhānatvaṃ yattadarcanaṃ ātmanaḥ || 8 ||

English

In the common relationship between the perceiver and the perceived, the vigilance of the yogi is the worship of the self.

ग्राहक और ग्राह्य के सामान्य संबंध में, योगी की सावधानी ही आत्मा की पूजा है।

दृष्ट्यानया रघुपते सङ्गमुक्तेन चेतसा | संसारविरलारण्ये विहरास्मिन्न खिद्यसे || ९ ||

dṛṣṭyānayā raghupate saṅgamuktena cetasā | saṃsāraviralāraṇye viharāsmi nna khidyase || 9 ||

English

With this vision, O Lord of the Raghus, with a mind freed from attachment, one can roam in the vast forest of the world without distress.

हिन्दी

इस दृष्टि से, हे रघुवंश के स्वामी, अनासक्त मन से, व्यक्ति संसार के विशाल वन में खिन्न हुए बिना विचर सकता है।

दुःखे महति संप्राप्ते धनबंधुवियोगजेतां दृष्टिमवष्टभ्य विचारं कुरु सुव्रत || १० ||

duḥkhe mahati saṃprāpte dhanabandhuviyogajeetāṃ dṛṣṭimavaṣṭabhya vicāraṃ kuru suvrata || 10 ||

English

O virtuous one, when great sorrow arises from the loss of wealth and friends, hold on to this vision and reflect.

हिन्दी

हे पुण्यवान, जब धन और मित्रों के वियोग से महान दुःख उत्पन्न होता है, तो इस दृष्टि को पकड़े रहो और विचार करो।

सुखदुःखे न कर्तव्ये धनबन्धूदयक्षये । एवंप्राया एव सर्वा नित्यं संसारदृष्टयः ॥ || ११ ||

sukhaduḥkhe na kartavye dhanabandhūdayakṣaye | evaṃprāyā eva sarvā nityaṃ saṃsāradṛṣṭayaḥ || 11 ||

English

In happiness and sorrow, in the rise and fall of wealth and friends, such is the eternal nature of worldly perceptions.

हिन्दी

सुख और दुःख में, धन और मित्रों के उदय और क्षय में, ऐसा ही है संसार की दृष्टि का स्वभाव।

जानास्येव गतिं चित्रां विषयाणां प्रमाथिनीम् । यथायान्ति यथा यान्ति यथा परिभवन्ति च ॥ || १२ ||

jānāsyeva gatiṃ citrāṃ viṣayāṇāṃ pramāthinīm | yathāyānti yathā yānti yathā paribhavanti ca || 12 ||

English

Know the strange nature of worldly objects, how they come and go, and how they cause distress.

हिन्दी

विषयों की विचित्र गति को जानो, कैसे वे आते हैं और जाते हैं, और कैसे वे पीड़ा पहुँचाते हैं।

एवमेव प्रवर्तन्ते प्रेमाणि च धनानि च । एवमेवावहीयन्ते निमित्तैरविचारितैः ॥ || १३ ||

evameva pravartante premāṇi ca dhanāni ca | evamevāvahīyante nimittairavicāritaiḥ || 13 ||

English

Thus, love and wealth come and go, driven by unconsidered causes.

हिन्दी

इसी प्रकार, प्रेम और धन आते हैं और जाते हैं, असम्भव कारणों से प्रेरित होकर।

न तास्तव न तासां त्वं निर्मलान्तर्जगत्क्रियाः । इदमित्थं जगत्किंचित्किं मुधा परितप्यसे ॥ || १४ ||

na tāstava na tāsāṃ tvaṃ nirmalāntarjagatkriyāḥ | idamitthaṃ jagatkiṃcit kiṃ mudhā paritapyase || 14 ||

English

You are not these, nor are you of them. You are the pure inner consciousness. Why do you grieve over this world?

हिन्दी

तुम ये नहीं हो, न ही तुम इनके हो। तुम शुद्ध अंतर्जगत् क्रिया हो। इस संसार के लिए तुम क्यों दुःख मनाते हो?

त्वमिहासि जगद्रूपं चिन्मात्रवितताकृते । निजावयवकावृत्तौ कः क्रमो हर्षशोकयोः ॥ || १५ ||

tvamihāsi jagadrūpaṃ cinmātravitatākṛte | nijāvayavakāvṛttau kaḥ kramaḥ harṣaśokayoḥ || 15 ||

English

You are here as the form of the universe, spread out as pure consciousness. In the functioning of your own parts, what is the order of joy and sorrow?

हिन्दी

तुम यहाँ हो ब्रह्माण्ड के रूप में, शुद्ध चेतना के रूप में फैले हुए। अपने अंगों के कार्य में, सुख और दुःख का क्रम क्या है?

तात चिन्मात्ररूपोऽसि न ते भिन्नमिदं जगत् | अतस्तव कथं कुत्र हेयोपादेयकल्पना || १६ ||

tāta cinmātrarūpo'si na te bhinnamidaṃ jagat | atastava kathaṃ kutra heyopādeyakalpanā || 16 ||

English

O dear one, you are of the nature of pure consciousness. This world is not different from you. Therefore, how and where can there be any notion of acceptance or rejection for you?

हिन्दी

हे प्रिय, तुम शुद्ध चेतना के स्वरूप हो | यह जगत तुमसे भिन्न नहीं है | इसलिए तुम्हारे लिए कहाँ और कैसे ग्रहण या त्याग की कल्पना हो सकती है?

इति चिच्चक्रचाञ्चल्ये चिन्मये जगदम्बुधौ | तरङ्गजाले चाम्भोधौ कः क्रमो हर्षशोकयोः || १७ ||

iti ciccakracāñcalye cinmaye jagadambudhau | taraṅgajāle cāmbhodhau kaḥ kramo harṣaśokayoḥ || 17 ||

English

In the fluctuating wheel of consciousness, in the ocean of the world which is pure consciousness, in the network of waves of the ocean, what is the sequence of joy and sorrow?

हिन्दी

चेतना के चंचल चक्र में, जो शुद्ध चेतना का जगत समुद्र है, समुद्र के तरंगों के जाल में, हर्ष और शोक का क्रम क्या है?

चिदेकतानतामेत्य सौषुप्तीमागतः स्थितिम् | अद्यप्रभृति राम त्वं तुर्यावस्थात्मको भव || १८ ||

cidekatānatāmetya sauṣuptīmāgataḥ sthitim | adyaprabhṛti rāma tvaṃ turyāvasthātmako bhava || 18 ||

English

Having reached the state of deep sleep, which is the state of pure consciousness, O Rama, from today onwards, you should be in the state of the fourth (turya).

हिन्दी

शुद्ध चेतना की अवस्था, जो गहरी नींद की अवस्था है, को प्राप्त करके, हे राम, आज से आगे, तुम चौथी अवस्था (तुर्या) में रहो |

समः समसमाभासो भास्वद्वपुरुदारधीः | तिष्ठात्मार्चारतो नित्यं परिपूर्णं इवार्णवः || १९ ||

samaḥ samasamābhāso bhāsvadvapurudāradhīḥ | tiṣṭhātmārcārato nityaṃ paripūrṇaṃ ivārṇavaḥ || 19 ||

English

Be equanimous, with a radiant form and noble intellect, always worshipping the self. Be complete like the ocean.

हिन्दी

समान रहो, चमकदार रूप और उदार बुद्धि के साथ, हमेशा आत्मा की पूजा करो | समुद्र की तरह पूर्ण रहो |

एतत्त्वं श्रुतवान्सर्वं स्थितस्त्वं परिपूर्णधीः | यदिच्छसीतरत्प्रष्टुं तत्पृच्छ रघुनन्दन || २० ||

etattvaṃ śrutavānsarvaṃ sthitastvaṃ paripūrṇadhīḥ | yadicchasītaratpraṣṭuṃ tatpṛccha raghunandana || 20 ||

English

You have heard all this and are established in complete wisdom. If you wish to ask anything more, then ask, O delight of the Raghus.

हिन्दी

तुमने यह सब सुना है और पूर्ण बुद्धि में स्थित हो | यदि तुम और कुछ पूछना चाहते हो, तो पूछो, हे रघुवंश के आनंददायक |

यत्पृष्टं प्रथमे कल्पे तदद्य परिचोदय| श्रीराम उवाच| इदानीं संशयो ब्रह्मन्विनिवृत्तो विशेषतः || २१ ||

yatpṛṣṭaṃ prathame kalpe tadadya paricoday| śrīrāma uvāca| idānīṃ saṃśayo brahmanvinivṛtto viśeṣataḥ || 21 ||

English

What was asked in the first creation, that is now being asked again. Shri Rama said: Now, O Brahman, the doubt has been specifically removed.

हिन्दी

जो प्रथम कल्प में पूछा गया था, वह अब फिर से पूछा जा रहा है| श्रीराम ने कहा| अब, हे ब्रह्मन्, संशय विशेष रूप से दूर हो गया है।

ज्ञातं ज्ञातव्यमखिलं जाता तृप्तिरकृत्रिमा| न मुनेऽस्ति मलं द्वित्वं न चेत्यं न च कल्पनम् || २२ ||

jñātaṃ jñātavyamakhilaṃ jātā tṛptirakṛtrimā| na mune'sti malaṃ dvitvaṃ na cetyaṃ na ca kalpanam || 22 ||

English

All that is to be known has been known, and genuine satisfaction has arisen. O sage, there is no impurity, no duality, no thought, and no imagination.

हिन्दी

जो जानने योग्य था, वह जाना गया है, और सच्ची तृप्ति उत्पन्न हुई है। हे मुनि, कोई मल (अशुद्धि) नहीं है, कोई द्वित्व (द्वैत) नहीं है, कोई चिंतन (विचार) नहीं है, और कोई कल्पना (कल्पना) नहीं है।

तदा ममाभूदज्ञानं प्रशान्तमधुना तु तत्| कलङ्क आत्मनोऽस्तीति तदज्ञानवशेन या || २३ ||

tadā mamābhūdajñānaṃ praśāntamadhunā tu tat| kalaṅka ātmano'stīti tadajñānavashena yā || 23 ||

English

At that time, I had ignorance, but now it has been calmed. The idea that there is a blemish in the self is due to that ignorance.

हिन्दी

उस समय, मुझमें अज्ञान था, लेकिन अब वह शांत हो गया है। आत्मा में कलंक है, यह विचार उस अज्ञान के कारण है।

भ्रान्तिरासीदिदानीं सा निवृत्ता त्वत्प्रसादतः| न जायते न म्रियते न चैवात्मा कलङ्कितः || २४ ||

bhrāntirāsīdidānīṃ sā nivṛttā tvatprasādataḥ| na jāyate na mriyate na caivātmā kalaṅkitaḥ || 24 ||

English

The delusion that existed has now ceased due to your grace. The self is neither born nor dies, nor is it blemished.

हिन्दी

जो भ्रांति थी, वह अब आपकी कृपा से समाप्त हो गई है। आत्मा न तो जन्म लेती है, न ही मरती है, न ही कलंकित है।

सर्वं च खल्विदं ब्रह्ममयमित्युदितोऽस्म्यलम्| प्रश्नेभ्यः संशयेभ्यश्च वाञ्छितेभ्यश्च सर्वतः || २५ ||

sarvaṃ ca khalvidamaṃ brahmamayamityudito'smyalam| praśnebhyaḥ saṃśayebhyaśca vāñchitebhyaśca sarvataḥ || 25 ||

English

Indeed, all this is Brahman. I am declared to be sufficient from all questions, doubts, and desires.

हिन्दी

निश्चय ही, यह सब ब्रह्म है। मैं सभी प्रश्नों, संशयों और इच्छाओं से परिपूर्ण घोषित हूँ।

शुद्धं मे निर्मलं चेतस्त्वष्ट्रा यन्त्रभ्रमादिव | सर्वाचारोपदेशेषु प्राप्तप्रोक्तेषु साधुभिः || २६ ||

śuddhaṃ me nirmalaṃ cetastvaṣṭrā yantrabhramādiva | sarvācāropadeśeṣu prāptaprokeṣu sādhubhiḥ || 26 ||

English

My mind is pure and spotless, as if created by the divine architect Tvasta. It is guided by the teachings of the virtuous in all conducts.

हिन्दी

मेरा मन शुद्ध और निर्मल है, जैसे कि देवता त्वष्टा ने बनाया हो। यह सभी आचारों में साधुओं द्वारा प्रदत्त उपदेशों से मार्गदर्शित है।

निराकाङ्क्षी स्थितोऽस्म्यन्तः सुमेरुः कनकेष्विव | न तदस्त्यस्ति यत्राशा न तदस्ति यदीप्सितम् || २७ ||

nirākāṅkṣī sthito'smiyantaḥ sumeruḥ kanakeṣviva | na tadastyasti yatrāśā na tadasti yadīpsitam || 27 ||

English

I am content within, like Mount Meru among gold mountains. There is no desire where there is contentment, and there is no craving for what is desired.

हिन्दी

मैं अंतर में संतुष्ट हूँ, जैसे कि सुमेरु स्वर्ण पर्वतों में। जहाँ संतुष्टि है, वहाँ कोई इच्छा नहीं है, और जो इच्छा है, उसके लिए कोई लालसा नहीं है।

न तदस्ति यदादेयं हेयं मध्यं चराचरे | इदं हेयमुपादेयमिदं सदिदमप्यसत् || २८ ||

na tadasti yadādeyaṃ heyaṃ madhyaṃ carācare | idaṃ heyaṃ upādeyamidaṃ sadidamapyasat || 28 ||

English

There is nothing that is to be taken or rejected, nor is there a middle ground in the moving and unmoving. This is to be rejected, this is to be accepted, this is real, this is unreal.

हिन्दी

कोई ऐसा नहीं है जिसे लिया जा सके या छोड़ा जा सके, न ही चराचर में मध्यम मार्ग है। यह छोड़ना चाहिए, यह लेना चाहिए, यह सत्य है, यह असत्य है।

इति चिन्ताभ्रमः शान्तो निपुणं परमो मुने | न स्वर्गमभिवाञ्छामि द्वेष्मि वापि न रौरवम् || २९ ||

iti cintābhraṃmaḥ śānto nipuṇaṃ paramo mune | na svargamabhivāñchāmi dveṣmi vāpi na rauravam || 29 ||

English

Thus, the delusion of thought is calmed, O wise sage. I do not desire heaven, nor do I hate hell.

हिन्दी

इस प्रकार, विचार का भ्रम शांत हो गया है, हे परम मुनि। मैं स्वर्ग की इच्छा नहीं करता, न ही नरक से घृणा करता हूँ।

आत्मन्येव हि तिष्ठामि मन्दराद्रिरिवाभ्रमः | कणशः कीर्णत्रिजगत्क्षीरसागरसंसृतिः || ३० ||

ātmanyeva hi tiṣṭhāmi mandarādririvābhraṃmaḥ | kaṇaśaḥ kīrṇatrijagatkṣīrasāgarasaṃsṛtiḥ || 30 ||

English

I abide in the self alone, like the Mandara mountain amidst the clouds. The three worlds are scattered like particles in the ocean of milk.

हिन्दी

मैं आत्मा में ही स्थित हूँ, जैसे मंदराचल बादलों में। तीनों लोक कण-कण के रूप में दूध के समुद्र में बिखरे हुए हैं।

विश्रान्तश्चिरसंभ्रान्तो निर्भ्रमो राम मन्दरः | अवस्त्विदमिदं वस्तु पश्येति कलनास्त्यलम् || ३१ ||

viśrāntaścirasaṃbhrānto nirbhraṃmo rāma mandaraḥ | avastvidaṃidaṃ vastu paśyeti kalanāstyalaṃ || 31 ||

English

Having rested after long fatigue, free from delusion, O Rama, the mountain (Mandara) is calm. This is the essence of things, see, there is no need for calculation.

हिन्दी

थकान के बाद विश्राम करने के बाद, भ्रम से मुक्त, हे राम, मन्दर पर्वत शांत है। यह वस्तु का सार है, देखो, गणना की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है।

हृदि तस्य कुसंदेहजालेन ज्वलिताधिकम् | इदमित्थं जगदिति ज्ञातं येन मुनीश्वर || ३२ ||

hṛdi tasya kusaṃdehajālena jvalitādhikaṃ | idamitthaṃ jagaditi jñātaṃ yena munīśvara || 32 ||

English

In the heart of that person, the web of doubts is greatly inflamed. The one who knows the world to be thus, O great sage.

हिन्दी

उसके हृदय में, संदेहों का जाल बहुत अधिक जल उठा है। जो इस विश्व को ऐसा ही जानता है, हे महान ऋषि।

स यत्र याति कार्पण्यं जगतस्तन्न लभ्यते | विचित्राकुलकल्लोलाज्जडाद्वृत्तिविवर्जितात् || ३३ ||

sa yatra yāti kārpaṇyaṃ jagatastanna labhyate | vicitrākulakallolājjāḍādvṛttivivarjitāt || 33 ||

English

Wherever that miserliness goes, the world does not obtain it. From the agitated waves of the ocean of material existence, devoid of inert tendencies.

हिन्दी

जहाँ भी वह कृपणता जाती है, विश्व उसे प्राप्त नहीं करता। माया के सागर की उथल-पुथल से, जड़ प्रवृत्तियों से रहित।

त्वत्प्रसादेन भगवंस्तीर्णाः स्मो भवसागरात् | संपदामवधिर्ज्ञातो दृष्टः सीमान्त आपदाम् || ३४ ||

tvatprasādena bhagavaṃstīrṇāḥ smo bhavasāgarāt | saṃpadāmavadhirjñāto dṛṣṭaḥ sīmānta āpadām || 34 ||

English

By your grace, O Lord, we have crossed the ocean of existence. The limit of prosperity is known, and the boundary of calamities is seen.

हिन्दी

आपकी कृपा से, हे भगवान, हमने अस्तित्व के सागर को पार कर लिया है। समृद्धि की सीमा ज्ञात है, और विपदाओं की सीमा दिखाई देती है।

सर्वसारेऽप्यदीनाः स्मः पूर्णाः स्मः परमेश्वर | ययावभेद्यामपरैर्दलिताशामतङ्गजम् | संसारसागरे सम्यग्वीरतामागतं मनः || ३५ ||

sarvasāre'pyadīnāḥ smaḥ pūrṇāḥ smaḥ parameśvara | yayāvabhedyāmaparairdalitāśāmatangajam | saṃsārasāgare samyagvīratāmāgataṃ manaḥ || 35 ||

English

Even in the essence of all, we are not miserable, we are complete, O Supreme Lord. By which the indomitable hope-elephant is shattered by others, the mind has attained true heroism in the ocean of worldly existence.

हिन्दी

सभी सार में भी, हम दुःखी नहीं हैं, हम पूर्ण हैं, हे परमेश्वर। जिससे अभेद्य आशा-हाथी दूसरों द्वारा तोड़ा जाता है, मन ने संसार के सागर में सच्ची वीरता प्राप्त कर ली है।

परिगलितविकल्पतामुपेतं प्रगलितवाञ्छमदीनसारसत्त्वम् | त्रिजगति यदतिप्रसन्नरूपं प्रमुदितमन्तरनुत्तमं मनो मे || ३६ ||

parigalitavikalpatāmupetaṃ pragalitavāñchamadīnasārasattvam | trijagati yadatiprasannarūpaṃ pramuditamantaranuttamaṃ mano me || 36 ||

English

My mind is supremely joyful within, as it has attained a state beyond all doubts and is endowed with a humble and pure essence that is most pleasing in the three worlds.

हिन्दी

मेरा मन अंतर में अत्यंत आनंदित है, क्योंकि यह सभी संदेहों से परे हो गया है और इसमें एक विनम्र और शुद्ध सत्त्व है जो तीनों लोकों में अत्यंत प्रिय है।
