śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | asti tāvadanantasya tasya kvacidayaṃ kila | jagadrūpaḥ parispando mṛgatṛṣṇā marāviva || 1 ||
Shri Vasishtha said: Indeed, there exists this vibration in the form of the universe, like a mirage in the desert, somewhere in that infinite being.
श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: वास्तव में, उस अनंत में कहीं यह ब्रह्मांड के रूप में कंपन है, जैसे रेगिस्तान में मृगतृष्णा।
तत्र कारणतां यातो ब्रह्मा कमलसंभवः | स्थितः पितामहत्वेन सृष्टभूतभरभ्रमः || २ ||
tatra kāraṇatāṃ yāto brahmā kamalasaṃbhavaḥ | sthitaḥ pitāmahatvena sṛṣṭabhūtabharabhramaḥ || 2 ||
There, Brahma, born from the lotus, has attained the status of the cause, established as the grandfather, deluded by the burden of created beings.
वहाँ, कमल से उत्पन्न ब्रह्मा ने कारण की स्थिति प्राप्त की है, पितामह के रूप में स्थापित, सृष्ट प्राणियों के भार से भ्रमित।
तस्याहं मानसः पुत्रो वसिष्ठः श्रेष्ठचेष्टितः | ऋक्षचक्रे ध्रुवधृते निवसामि युगं प्रति || ३ ||
tasyāhaṃ mānasaḥ putro vasiṣṭhaḥ śreṣṭhaceṣṭitaḥ | ṛkṣacakre dhruvadhṛte nivasāmi yugaṃ prati || 3 ||
I am his mental son, Vasishtha, of excellent deeds, dwelling in the constellation of the Bear, which is firmly held, for each yuga.
मैं उनका मानस पुत्र हूँ, वसिष्ठ, उत्कृष्ट कर्मों वाला, ऋक्ष चक्र में निवास करता हूँ, जो दृढ़ता से धारण किया गया है, प्रत्येक युग के लिए।
सोऽहं कदाचिदास्थाने स्वर्गे तिष्ठञ्छतक्रतोः | श्रुतवान्नारदादिभ्यः कथां सुचिरजीविनाम् || ४ ||
so'haṃ kadācidāsthāne svarge tiṣṭhañchatakratoḥ | śrutavānnāradādibhyaḥ kathāṃ sucira jīvinām || 4 ||
Thus, I once stayed in the assembly in heaven, near Indra, and heard from Narada and others the stories of the long-lived.
इस प्रकार, मैं एक बार स्वर्ग में सभा में इंद्र के पास रहा और नारद तथा अन्यों से दीर्घजीवियों की कथाएँ सुनीं।
कथाप्रसङ्गे कस्मिंश्चिदथ तत्राभ्युवाच ह | शातातपो नाम मुनिमौनी मानी महामतिः || ५ ||
kathāprasaṅge kasmiṃścidatha tatrābhyuvāca ha | śātātapo nāma munimauṇī mānī mahāmatiḥ || 5 ||
In the course of the story, there, he then addressed a sage named Shatatapa, who was silent, proud, and of great intellect.

merorīśānakoṇasthē padmarāgamayē divi | asti kalpataruḥ śrīmāñchṛṅgē cūta iti śrutaḥ || 6 ||
In the northeastern corner of Mount Meru, there is a divine ruby-like tree in the sky. It is known as the wish-fulfilling tree, and on its peak, it is called the mango tree.
मेरु पर्वत के ईशान कोण में आकाश में पद्मराग के समान एक दिव्य वृक्ष है। यह कल्पतरु कहलाता है और इसके शिखर पर आम का वृक्ष है।
तस्य कल्पतरोर्मूर्ध्नि दक्षिणस्कन्धकोटरे | कलधौतलताप्रोते विद्यते विहगालयः || ७ ||
tasya kalpatarormūrdhni dakṣiṇaskandhakoṭare | kaladhautalatāprotae vidyate vihagālayaḥ || 7 ||
On the top of that wish-fulfilling tree, in the hollow of its southern branch, there is a nest made of golden creepers.
उस कल्पतरु के शिखर पर, उसकी दक्षिण शाखा के खोखले में, सोने की लताओं से बना एक घोंसला है।
तस्मिन्निवसति श्रीमान्भुशुण्डो नाम वायसः | वीतरागो बृहत्कोशे ब्रह्मेव निजपङ्कजे || ८ ||
tasminnivasti śrīmānbhuśuṇḍo nāma vāyasaḥ | vītarāgo bṛhatkośe brahmeva nijapaṅkaje || 8 ||
In that nest resides the glorious crow named Bhushunda, who is free from desires and has a large body, just like Brahma in his own lotus.
उस घोंसले में श्रीमान् भुशुण्ड नामक कौआ रहता है, जो इच्छाओं से मुक्त है और ब्रह्मा के समान अपने कमल में है।
स यथा जगतां कोशे जीवतीह सुराश्चिरम् | चिरंजीवी तथा स्वर्गे न भूतो न भविष्यति || ९ ||
sa yathā jagatāṃ kośe jīvatīha surāściram | cirañjīvī tathā svargē na bhūto na bhaviṣyati || 9 ||
Just as he lives in the nest of the world for a long time, similarly, there will be no one in heaven who has lived as long as he has, nor will there be.
जैसे वह विश्व के घोंसले में लंबे समय तक जीवित रहता है, उसी प्रकार, स्वर्ग में उसके समान लंबे समय तक जीवित रहने वाला कोई नहीं है और न ही होगा।
स दीर्घायुः स नीरागः स श्रीमान्स महामतिः | स विश्रान्तमतिः शान्तः स कान्तः कालकोविदः || १० ||
sa dīrghāyuḥ sa nīrāgaḥ sa śrīmānsa mahāmatiḥ | sa viśrāntamatiḥ śāntaḥ sa kāntaḥ kālakovidaḥ || 10 ||
He is long-lived, free from desires, glorious, wise, with a calm mind, peaceful, and knows the secrets of time.
वह लंबे जीवन वाला, इच्छाओं से मुक्त, श्रीमान्, बुद्धिमान, शांत मन वाला, शांत, और समय के रहस्यों को जानने वाला है।
स यथा जीवति खगस्तथेह यदि जीव्यतेतद्भवेज्जीवितं पुण्यं दीर्घं चोदयमेव च || ११ ||
sa yathā jīvati khagastatheha yadi jīvyatetadbhavejjīvitaṃ puṇyaṃ dīrghaṃ codayameva ca || 11 ||
Just as a bird lives, so too if one lives here, that life becomes virtuous and long, and it certainly promotes.
जैसे एक पक्षी जीवित रहता है, वैसे ही यदि कोई यहाँ जीवित रहता है, तो उसका जीवन पुण्यमय और दीर्घ होता है, और यह निश्चित रूप से प्रोत्साहित करता है।
इति तेन भुशुण्डोऽसौ भूयः पृष्टेन वर्णितःयथावदेव देवानां सभायां सत्यमुक्तवान् || १२ ||
iti tena bhuśuṇḍo'sau bhūyaḥ pṛṣṭena varṇitaḥyathāvadeva devānāṃ sabhāyāṃ satyamuktavān || 12 ||
Thus, that Bhuśuṇḍa, being asked again, narrated exactly as he had spoken the truth in the assembly of the gods.
इस प्रकार, वह भुशुण्ड, फिर से पूछे जाने पर, उसने ठीक वैसे ही कहा जैसे उसने देवताओं की सभा में सत्य कहा था।
कथावसरसंशान्तावथ याते सुरव्रजेभुशुण्डं विहगं द्रष्टुमहं यातः कुतूहलात् || १३ ||
kathāvasarasaṃśāntāvatha yāte suravrajebhuśuṇḍaṃ vihagaṃ draṣṭumahaṃ yātaḥ kutūhalāt || 13 ||
When the opportunity for the story ended, then having gone to the abode of the gods, I went to see the bird Bhuśuṇḍa out of curiosity.
जब कहानी का अवसर समाप्त हो गया, तब देवताओं के निवास पर जाकर, मैंने उत्सुकतावश पक्षी भुशुण्ड को देखने के लिए जाना।
भुशुण्डः संस्थितो यत्र मेरोः शृङ्गं तदुत्तमम्संप्राप्तवान्क्षणेनाहं पद्मरागमयं बृहत् || १४ ||
bhuśuṇḍaḥ saṃsthito yatra meroḥ śrṛṅgaṃ taduttamamsaṃprāptavānkṣaṇenāhaṃ padmarāgamayaṃ bṛhat || 14 ||
Bhuśuṇḍa is situated where I quickly reached the excellent peak of Meru, which is large and made of ruby.
भुशुण्ड उस स्थान पर स्थित है जहाँ मैंने शीघ्र ही मेरु के उत्तम शिखर तक पहुँच गया, जो बड़ा और माणिक्य से बना है।
रत्नगैरिककान्तेन तेजसा वह्निवर्चसामध्वासवरसेनेव रञ्जयत्ककुभां गणम् || १५ ||
ratnagairikakāntena tejasā vahnivarcasāmadhvāsavaraseneva rañjayatkakubhāṃ gaṇam || 15 ||
With the brilliance of the ruby-like Gairika, it illuminates the directions and the group of gods with the splendor of fire and the best fragrance of incense.
माणिक्य-जैसी गैरिक की चमक से, यह अग्नि की चमक और धूप की सर्वोत्तम सुगंध से दिशाओं और देवताओं के समूह को प्रकाशित करता है।
कल्पान्तज्वलनोज्ज्वालापिण्डाद्रिमिव संचितमिन्द्रनीलशिखाधूममालोकारुणिताम्बरम् || १६ ||
kalpāntajvalanojjvālāpiṇḍādrimiva saṃcitamindranīlaśikhādhūmamālokāruṇitāmbaram || 16 ||
At the end of the aeon, the blazing mountain of fire, like a mass of flames, with its smoke resembling the blue sapphire, has reddened the sky.
कल्पान्त में, ज्वलन्त अग्नि पर्वत, जैसे एक ज्वालामुखी, अपने धुएँ के साथ, जो नीलम के समान है, आकाश को लाल कर देता है।
सर्वेषामेव रागाणां राशिमद्राविव स्थितम्सर्वसंध्याभ्रजालानां घनमेकमिवाकरम् || १७ ||
sarveṣāmeva rāgāṇāṃ rāśimadrāviva sthitamsarvasaṃdhyābhrajālānāṃ ghanamekamivākaram || 17 ||
All the passions are like a heap of clouds, appearing as one dense mass at the junction of all twilights.
सभी राग (भावनाएँ) एक बादलों के ढेर के समान हैं, जो सभी संध्या के समय एक घने ढेर के रूप में प्रकट होते हैं।
उत्क्रान्तिं कुर्वतो मेरोर्ब्रह्मनाड्येव निर्गतम्मूर्धानमागतं कान्तं वाडवं जठरानलम् || १८ ||
utkrāntiṃ kurvato merorbrahmanāḍyeva nirgatammūrdhānamāgataṃ kāntaṃ vāḍavaṃ jaṭharānalam || 18 ||
At the time of dissolution, the fire from the ocean, beautiful and radiant, emerges from the Brahma-nadi, the central channel of Mount Meru.
विलय के समय, समुद्र की अग्नि, सुंदर और चमकदार, ब्रह्मनाडी से निकलती है, जो मेरु पर्वत की मध्य नाड़ी है।
सुमेरुवनदेव्येव नवालक्तकरञ्जितम्लीलयादातुमिन्दुं खे नीतं हस्तशिखाङ्गुलिम् || १९ ||
sumeruvanadevyeva navālaktakarañjitamlīlayā''dātuminduṃ khe nītaṃ hastaśikhāṅgulim || 19 ||
The goddess of the Sumeru forest, adorned with fresh lac, playfully brings the moon from the sky with her fingertips.
सुमेरु वन की देवी, जो ताजे लाख से सजी है, खेल-खेल में अपनी उंगलियों से आकाश से चंद्रमा को ले आती है।
ज्वालाभिरिव मालाभिररुणाभिः पयोमुखम्खं गन्तुमिव सस्पन्दं शैलस्थमिव वाडवम् || २० ||
jvālābhiriva mālābhiraruṇābhiḥ payomukhamkhaṃ gantumiva saspandaṃ śailasthamiva vāḍavam || 20 ||
With garlands of flames, reddish like water-drops, it seems to move through the sky, trembling like the ocean fire on the mountain.
ज्वालाओं की मालाओं से, जो पानी की बूंदों के समान लाल हैं, यह आकाश में घूमता हुआ प्रतीत होता है, जैसे पर्वत पर समुद्र की अग्नि कंपित हो रही हो।
ताराः स्प्रष्टुमिवाकाशमङ्गुलीभिरिव त्रिभिः | कचदंशुनखाग्राभिः परिचुम्बदिवोन्नतम् || २१ ||
tārāḥ spraṣṭumivākāśamaṅgulībhiriva tribhiḥ | kacadaṃśunakhāgrābhiḥ paricumbadivonnatam || 21 ||
The stars seem to touch the sky with their three fingers, as if kissing the elevated one with their tips resembling the rays of the moon and nails.
तारे अपनी तीन उंगलियों से आकाश को छूने के समान लगते हैं, जैसे चंद्र किरणों और नखों के अग्रभाग से उन्नत को चूम रहे हों।
गर्जज्जीमूतमुरजं भूभृतानां तु मण्डपम् | हसत्कुसुमगुच्छाढ्यं ध्वनत्षट्पदपेटकम् || २२ ||
garjajjīmūtamurajaṃ bhūbhṛtānāṃ tu maṇḍapam | hasatkusumagucchāḍhyaṃ dhvanatṣaṭpadapeṭakam || 22 ||
The pavilion of the earth-bearers is like a rumbling cloud-drum, adorned with laughing flower clusters and resonating with the hum of bees.
पृथ्वी धारकों का मंडप गर्जन करते बादलों के ढोल के समान है, जो हंसते फूलों के गुच्छों से सुशोभित है और भौंरों की भनभनाहट से गूंज रहा है।
दन्ततालदलावल्या परिहासादिव स्फुरत् | दोलालोलाप्सरोवृन्दमुदारमदमन्मथम् || २३ ||
dantatāladalāvalyā parihāsādiva sphurat | dolālolāpsarovṛndamudāramadamanmatham || 23 ||
With the row of teeth resembling the petals of a lotus, it seems to shine with laughter, and the swinging group of Apsaras is intoxicated with joy and love.
दांतों की पंक्ति कमल के पत्तों के समान है, जो हंसी से चमक रही है, और झूलती हुई अप्सराओं का समूह आनंद और प्रेम से मदमस्त है।
शिलाविश्रान्तविबुधमिथुनाश्रितकन्दरम् | वराम्बराजिनं शुभ्रगङ्गायज्ञोपवीति च || २४ ||
śilāviśrāntavibudhamithunāśritakandaram | varāmbarājinaṃ śubhragaṅgāyajñopavīti ca || 24 ||
Resting on the rocks, the divine couples take shelter in the caves, wearing excellent garments and the sacred thread of the pure Ganges.
पत्थरों पर विश्राम करते हुए, दिव्य जोड़े गुफाओं में आश्रय लेते हैं, उत्तम वस्त्र और पवित्र गंगा का यज्ञोपवीत पहने हुए।
तापसं पिङ्गलमिव वेणुदण्डधरं स्थितम् | गङ्गानिर्झरनिर्ह्रादि लतागृहगतामरम् || २५ ||
tāpasaṃ piṅgalamiva veṇudaṇḍadharaṃ sthitam | gaṅgānirjharanirhrādi latāgṛhagatāmaram || 25 ||
Standing like an ascetic with a brown complexion, holding a bamboo staff, amidst the roaring sound of the Ganges waterfall, the mango tree is in the vine house.
एक तपस्वी के समान खड़ा है, भूरे रंग का, बांस की लाठी लिए हुए, गंगा के झरने की गर्जना के बीच, आम का पेड़ लताओं के घर में है।
गन्धर्वगीतसुभगमामोदमधुरानिलम् | फुल्लहेमाम्बुजोत्तंसं तारारत्नविभूषितम् | व्योम्नः पारमिव प्राप्तं पिङ्गलं मैरवं शिरः || २६ ||
gandharvagītasubhagamāmodamadhurānilam | phullahemāmbujottansaṃ tārāratnavibhūṣitam | vyomnaḥ pāramiva prāptaṃ piṅgalaṃ mairavaṃ śiraḥ || 26 ||
The fragrant, sweet breeze, beautiful like the song of the Gandharvas, the golden lotus blooming, adorned with star-like jewels, reaching the sky as if it were the limit, the tawny-colored peak of Mount Meru.
गन्धर्वों के गीत की तरह सुंदर, मधुर वायु, सुनहरी कमल के फूल के समान, तारों के समान रत्नों से अलंकृत, आकाश की सीमा तक पहुँचा हुआ, भूरे रंग का मेरु पर्वत का शिखर।
सितहरितपीतपाटलधवलैर्वनकुसुमराशिनवरङ्गैः | दिवि विहितामलचित्रं लीलाचलममरयुवतिवर्गस्य || २७ ||
sitaharitapītapāṭaladhavalairvanakusumarāśinavarangaiḥ | divi vihitāmalacitraṃ līlācalamamarayuvativargasya || 27 ||
With white, green, yellow, red, and white flowers, the forest blooms with new colors, creating a pure and beautiful picture in the sky, the playful mountain of the group of divine youths.
सफेद, हरे, पीले, लाल और सफेद फूलों से वन नए रंगों से खिला हुआ है, जो आकाश में एक पवित्र और सुंदर चित्र बनाता है, दिव्य युवाओं के समूह का खेल पर्वत।
