श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | अथ गाधिर्गते विष्णौ पुनर्भूतादिकं क्रमात् | स्वयं मोहविचारार्थं बभ्रामाभ्रमिवाम्बरे || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | atha gādhirgate viṣṇau punarbhūtādikaṃ kramāt | svayaṃ mohavicārārthaṃ babhrāmābhra-mivāmbare || 1 ||

English

Śrīvasiṣṭha said: Then, after Viṣṇu had departed, Gādhi, in order to ponder the nature of delusion, wandered in the sky like a cloud, sequentially experiencing various states of existence.

हिन्दी

श्रीवसिष्ठ ने कहा: तदनंतर विष्णु के चले जाने पर, गाधि मोह के विचार के लिए, आकाश में बादल की तरह भटकते हुए, क्रमशः अनेक अवस्थाओं का अनुभव किया।

उपलभ्य तथैवात्मवृत्तान्तं जनतस्ततः | हरिमाराधयामास पुनरद्रिगुहां गतः || २ ||

upalabhya tathaivātmavṛttāntaṃ janatastataḥ | harimārādhayāmāsa punaradriguhāṃ gataḥ || 2 ||

English

Having realized the true nature of his self, he then worshipped Hari, and once again returned to the cave in the mountain.

हिन्दी

अपने आत्म के स्वरूप को जानकर, उसने हरि की पूजा की, और फिर से पर्वत की गुफा में लौट आया।

आजगामैनमल्पेन कालेनाथ जनार्दनः | सकृदाराधनेनैव माधवो याति बन्धुताम् || ३ ||

ājagāmaenamalpena kālenātha janārdanaḥ | sakṛdārādhane-naiva mādhavo yāti bandhutām || 3 ||

English

Then, after a short period of time, Janārdana (Viṣṇu) appeared before him. Mādhava (Viṣṇu) becomes a friend even with a single act of worship.

हिन्दी

तदनंतर, थोड़े समय के बाद, जनार्दन (विष्णु) उसके सामने आया। माधव (विष्णु) एक ही पूजा से मित्र बन जाता है।

उवाच गाधिं भगवान्मयूरमिव वारिदः | किं त्वं प्रार्थयसे भूयस्तपसेति प्रसादवान् || ४ ||

uvāca gādhiṃ bhagavānmayūramiva vāridaḥ | kiṃ tvaṃ prārthayase bhūyastapase-ti prasādavān || 4 ||

English

The gracious Lord, like a cloud showering rain, spoke to Gādhi: 'What do you desire more from penance?'

कृपालु भगवान, बादल की तरह वर्षा करते हुए, गाधि से बोला: 'तपस्या से और क्या चाहते हो?'

गाधिरुवाच | भ्रान्तोऽस्मि देव षण्मासान्भूतकीरजनास्पदम् | तत्र व्यभिचरत्यस्मद्वृत्तान्तो न कथास्वपि || ५ ||

gādhiruvāca | bhrānto'smi deva ṣaṇmāsānbhūtakīrajana-spadam | tatra vyabhicaratyas-madvṛttānto na kathāsvapi || 5 ||

English

Gādhi said: O Lord, I have been wandering deluded for six months, and my story is not known even in the tales.

हिन्दी

गाधि ने कहा: हे देव, मैं छह महीनों से भ्रांत हूँ, और मेरी कहानी कथाओं में भी ज्ञात नहीं है।

मायया भूतभूर्दृष्टा त्वयेत्युक्तोऽस्मि किं प्रभो | मोहनाशाय महतां वचो नो मोहवृद्धये || ६ ||

māyayā bhūtabhūrdṛṣṭā tvetyuktō'smi kiṃ prabho | mohanāśāya mahatāṃ vaco no mohavṛddhaye || 6 ||

English

I have been told by you, O Lord, that the world is an illusion created by Maya. Is this statement meant to dispel the delusion of the great ones or to increase it?

हिन्दी

हे प्रभो, मैंने आपसे सुना है कि माया द्वारा सृष्टि की गई है| क्या यह बात महान लोगों के मोह को दूर करने के लिए है या उसे बढ़ाने के लिए?

श्रीभगवानुवाच | काकतालीययोगेन चेतसि श्वपचस्थितिः | सर्वेषां भूतकीराणां तवेव प्रतिबिम्बति || ७ ||

śrībhagavānuvāca | kākatālīyayogena cetasi śvapacasthitiḥ | sarveṣāṃ bhūtakīrāṇāṃ taveva pratibimbiti || 7 ||

English

The Supreme Lord said: By the method of the crow and the palm tree, the mind dwells in the state of a dog-eater. This reflects in you, the leader of all beings.

हिन्दी

श्री भगवान ने कहा: कौए और ताड़ के तरीके से, मन कुत्ते खाने वाले की स्थिति में रहता है| यह आपमें, सभी प्राणियों के नेता में प्रतिबिम्बित होता है|

तेनाङ्ग तव वृत्तान्तं यथावत्कथयन्ति ते | प्रतिभासो हि नायाति पुनरप्रतिभासताम् || ८ ||

tenāṅga tava vṛttāntaṃ yathāvatkathayanti te | pratibhāso hi nāyāti punarapratibhāsatām || 8 ||

English

Therefore, O dear one, they narrate your story accurately. Indeed, the reflection does not come again to the state of non-reflection.

हिन्दी

इसलिए, हे प्रिय, वे आपकी कहानी सही ढंग से बयान करते हैं| वास्तव में, प्रतिबिम्ब फिर से अप्रतिबिम्ब अवस्था में नहीं आता|

केनचिच्छ्वपचेनान्ते ग्रामस्य रचितं गृहम् | तत्त्वया दृष्टमाविष्टमिष्टकाखण्डतां गतम् || ९ ||

kenacicchvapacenānte grāmasya racitaṃ gṛham | tattvayā dṛṣṭamāviṣṭamiṣṭakākhaṇḍatāṃ gatam || 9 ||

English

At the end, a house was built by some dog-eater in the village. That house, seen by you, was possessed and reduced to a pile of bricks.

हिन्दी

अंत में, गाँव में किसी कुत्ते खाने वाले ने एक घर बनाया| वह घर, जिसे आपने देखा, आविष्ट हो गया और ईंटों के ढेर में बदल गया|

कदाचित्प्रतिभैकैव बहूनामपि जायते | काकोलतालस्थितिवद्विचित्रा हि मनोगतिः || १० ||

kadācitpratibhaikaiva bahūnāmapi jāyate | kākolatālasthitivadvicitrā hi manogatiḥ || 10 ||

English

Sometimes, a single reflection arises even among many. Indeed, the mind's journey is as varied as the position of a crow on a palm tree.

हिन्दी

कभी-कभी, एक ही प्रतिबिम्ब बहुत से लोगों में भी उत्पन्न होता है| वास्तव में, मन की यात्रा कौए के ताड़ पर स्थिति की तरह विविध होती है|

तथाहि बहवः स्वप्नमेकं पश्यन्ति मानवाः | स्वापभ्रमदमैरेयमदमन्थरचित्तवत् || ११ ||

tathāhi bahavaḥ svapnamekaṃ paśyanti mānavāḥ | svāpabhramadamaireyamadamantharacittavat || 11 ||

English

Thus, many humans see the same dream, as if intoxicated by the illusion of sleep, with a mind that is not steady.

हिन्दी

इस प्रकार, बहुत से मनुष्य एक ही स्वप्न देखते हैं, जैसे नींद के भ्रम से मतवाले हों, चित्त अस्थिर हो।

एकस्यामेव लीलायां रमन्ते बहुबालकाः | एकस्यामेव नीलायां वनस्थल्यामिवैणकाः || १२ ||

ekasyāmeva līlāyāṃ ramante bahubālakāḥ | ekasyāmeva nīlāyāṃ vanasthalyāmivaaiṇakāḥ || 12 ||

English

Many children play in the same playground, just as many deer play in the same blue forest.

हिन्दी

बहुत से बच्चे एक ही खेल के मैदान में खेलते हैं, जैसे बहुत से हिरण एक ही नीले वन में खेलते हैं।

प्रतिबन्धाभ्यनुज्ञानां कालो दातेति या श्रुतिः | विप्र संकल्पमात्रोऽसौ कालो ह्यात्मनि तिष्ठति || १४ ||

pratibandhābhyanujñānāṃ kālo dāteti yā śrutiḥ | vipra saṃkalpamātro'sau kālo hyātmani tiṣṭhati || 14 ||

English

The scripture says that time gives permission and obstruction. O wise one, that time is merely a resolve, and it resides in the self.

हिन्दी

शास्त्र कहता है कि समय अनुमति और बाधा देता है। हे विद्वान, वह समय केवल एक संकल्प है, और वह आत्मा में निवास करता है।

वहवस्तुल्यकालं च प्रतिभासेन कर्मणाम् | जना यतन्ते स्वफलपाकेऽतिबहुलाकृतौ || १५ ||

vahavastulyakālaṃ ca pratibhāsena karmaṇām | janā yatante svaphalapāke'tibahulākṛtau || 15 ||

English

Many people strive for the fruition of their actions, appearing in the same time, with great effort.

हिन्दी

बहुत से लोग अपने कर्मों के फल के लिए बहुत प्रयास करते हैं, जो एक ही समय में प्रकट होते हैं।

लौकिको यस्त्वयं कालो वर्षकल्पयुगात्मकः | संकल्प्यते पदार्थौघैः पदार्थौघश्च तेन तु || १६ ||

laukiko yastvayaṃ kālo varṣakalpayugātmakaḥ | saṃkalpyate padārthaughaiḥ padārthaughaśca tena tu || 16 ||

English

This worldly time, which is composed of years, eons, and ages, is conceived by the multitude of objects, and the multitude of objects is conceived by it.

हिन्दी

यह संसारिक समय, जो वर्षों, युगों और कल्पों से बना है, वस्तुओं के समूह द्वारा सोचा जाता है, और वस्तुओं का समूह उससे सोचा जाता है।

समानप्रतिभासोत्थसंभ्रमं भ्रान्तचेतसः तथा तं दृष्टवन्तस्ते भूतकीरजनोच्चयाः || १७ ||

samānapratibhāsotthasaṃbhraṃ bhrāntacetasaḥ tathā taṃ dṛṣṭavantaste bhūtakīrajanochchayāḥ || 17 ||

English

Those who are deluded by similar illusions, and who have confused minds, see the same illusion. Thus, they are deluded by the illusion of the world.

हिन्दी

जो लोग समान भ्रम से भ्रमित होते हैं, और जिनके मन भ्रान्त हैं, वे उसी भ्रम को देखते हैं। इस प्रकार, वे संसार के भ्रम से भ्रमित हो जाते हैं।

स्वव्यापारपरो भूत्वा धियात्मानं विचारय साधो गतमनोमोहमिहैवास्व व्रजाम्यहम् || १८ ||

svavyāpāraparo bhūtvā dhiyātmānaṃ vicāraya sādho gatamanomohamihaiavāsva vrajāmyaham || 18 ||

English

Engage in your own duties and reflect on the self. O virtuous one, having removed the delusion of the mind, I will come to you here itself.

हिन्दी

अपने कर्तव्यों में लगे रहें और आत्मा पर विचार करें। हे साधु, मन की भ्रान्ति को दूर करके, मैं यहीं आपके पास आऊँगा।

ततः कतिपयेष्वद्रौ मासेष्वतिगतेषु सः पुनराराधयामास पुण्डरीककरं द्विजः || २० ||

tataḥ katipayeṣvadrāu māseṣvatigateṣu saḥ punarārādhayāmāsa puṇḍarīkakaraṃ dvijaḥ || 20 ||

English

Then, after some months had passed, that Brahmin worshipped the lotus-handed one again.

हिन्दी

तब, कुछ महीनों के बीतने के बाद, वह ब्राह्मण फिर से कमल-हाथ वाले की पूजा करने लगा।

ददर्श चैकदा नाथमागतं प्रणनाम तम् पूजयामास मनसा चोक्तेनोवाच चेश्वरम् || २१ ||

dadarśa caikadā nāthamāgataṃ praṇanāma taṃ pūjayāmāsa manasā coktenovāca ceśvaram || 21 ||

English

One day, he saw the Lord who had come, bowed down to Him, and worshipped Him with his mind. He then spoke to the Lord with these words.

हिन्दी

एक दिन, उसने आए हुए भगवान को देखा, उन्हें प्रणाम किया, और मन से उनकी पूजा की। फिर उसने भगवान से इन शब्दों में बात की।

गाधिरुवाच भगवन्संस्मरंश्चैतामात्मनः श्वपचस्थितम् इमां संसारमायां च परिमुह्यामि चेतसा || २२ ||

gādhiruvāca bhagavansaṃsmaraṃścaitāmātmanaḥ śvapacasthitam imāṃ saṃsāramāyāṃ ca parimuhyāmi cetasā || 22 ||

English

Gadhi said, 'O Lord, remembering this condition of mine, situated in the lowest state, I am confused in this worldly illusion with my mind.'

हिन्दी

गाधि ने कहा, 'हे भगवान, मेरी इस स्थिति को याद करते हुए, जो सबसे नीचे स्थित है, मैं इस संसार की माया में मन से भ्रमित हूँ।'

तदुक्त्वास्व यथावस्तु महामोहनिवृत्तये | एकस्मिन्नेव विमले मां नियोजय कर्मणि || २३ ||

taduktvāsv yathāvastu mahāmohanivṛttaye | ekasminneva vimale māṃ niyojaya karmaṇi || 23 ||

English

Having said this, for the removal of great delusion, engage me in one pure action according to the truth.

हिन्दी

यह कहकर, महान भ्रम को दूर करने के लिए, सत्य के अनुसार एक शुद्ध कर्म में मुझे लगाओ।

श्रीभगवानुवाच | ब्रह्मन् जगदिदं मायामहाशम्बरडम्बरम् | सर्वा आश्चर्यकलनाः संभवन्तीह विस्मृतेः || २४ ||

śrībhagavānuvāca | brahman jagadidaṃ māyāmahāśambaraḍambaram | sarvā āścaryakalanāḥ saṃbhavantīha vismṛteḥ || 24 ||

English

The Supreme Lord said: O Brahman, this world is a great illusion, a grand deception. All wonders arise here from forgetfulness.

हिन्दी

श्री भगवान ने कहा: हे ब्रह्मन, यह जगत एक महान माया, एक बड़ा धोखा है। सभी आश्चर्यजनक घटनाएँ भुलावे से यहाँ उत्पन्न होती हैं।

भूतकीरपुरे मोहाद्दृष्टवांस्तत्तथा भवान् | इत्येतत्संभवत्येव दृश्यते हि जनैर्भ्रमः || २५ ||

bhūtakīrapure mohāddṛṣṭavāṃstattathā bhavān | ityetatsaṃbhavatyeva dṛśyate hi janairbhramaḥ || 25 ||

English

In the city of ghosts, due to delusion, you have seen it as such. Thus, this illusion is indeed perceived by people.

हिन्दी

भूतों के नगर में, भ्रम के कारण, आपने इसे ऐसा ही देखा है। इस प्रकार, यह भ्रम लोगों द्वारा देखा जाता है।

इदं तु शृणु वक्ष्यामि यथाभूतमनिन्दितम् | यथैति तनुतां चिन्ता मार्गशीर्षलतेव ते || २७ ||

idaṃ tu śṛṇu vakṣyāmi yathābhūtamaninditam | yathaiti tanutāṃ cintā mārgaśīrṣalateva te || 27 ||

English

Listen, I will tell you the truth without any fault, just as a thought takes form like a Margashirsha vine for you.

हिन्दी

सुनो, मैं तुम्हें कोई दोष के बिना सत्य बताऊँगा, जैसे एक विचार मार्गशीर्ष की लता की तरह तुम्हारे लिए रूप लेता है।

योऽसौ कटंजको नाम श्वपचो भूतमण्डले | तेनैव संनिवेशेन स तथैवाभवत्पुरा || २८ ||

yo'sau kaṭaṃjako nāma śvapaco bhūtamaṇḍale | tenaiva saṃniveśena sa tathaivābhavatpurā || 28 ||

English

He who is known as Kaṭaṃjaka, a dog-eater in the realm of ghosts, by that very dwelling, he became such in the past.

हिन्दी

जो कटंजक नाम से जाना जाता है, एक कुत्ते खाने वाला भूतों के राज्य में, उसी निवास से, वह पहले ऐसा ही हो गया था।

तथैव विकलत्रत्वं प्राप्य देशान्तरं गतः | बभूव कीरनृपतिः प्रविवेशानलं ततः || २९ ||

tathaiva vikalatratvaṃ prāpya deśāntaraṃ gataḥ | babhūva kīranṛpatiḥ praviveśānalaṃ tataḥ || 29 ||

English

Thus, having attained a state of confusion, he went to another place and became the king of insects, then he entered the fire.

हिन्दी

इस प्रकार, भ्रमित होकर दूसरे स्थान पर गया और कीड़ों का राजा बन गया, फिर उसने आग में प्रवेश किया।

31

द्रष्टानुभूतमप्यर्थं कदाचिद्विस्मरत्यलम् | कदाचिदप्यदृष्टं तु चेतः पश्यति दृष्टवत् || ३१ ||

draṣṭānubhūtamapyarthaṃ kadācidvismaratyalaṃ | kadācidapyadṛṣṭaṃ tu cetaḥ paśyati dṛṣṭavat || 31 ||

English

Sometimes the seer forgets the experienced object, and sometimes the mind sees the unseen as if it were seen.

हिन्दी

कभी-कभी देखने वाला अनुभव किया हुआ वस्तु भूल जाता है, और कभी-कभी मन अदृश्य को देखा हुआ समझता है।

यथा स्वप्नमनोराज्यधातुसंस्थितिविभ्रमाः | जाग्रत्यपि तथैवाङ्ग दृश्यन्ते मनसा स्वयम् || ३२ ||

yathā svapnamanorājyadhātusaṃsthitivibhramāḥ | jāgratyapi tathaivāṅga dṛśyante manasā svayam || 32 ||

English

Just as the illusions of the dream state, which are the creations of the mind, are seen even in the waking state by the mind itself.

हिन्दी

जैसे स्वप्न अवस्था के भ्रम, जो मन की सृष्टि हैं, जागृत अवस्था में भी मन द्वारा देखे जाते हैं।

भविष्यद्भूतकालस्थं यथा त्रैकाल्यदर्शिनः | प्रतिभाभेति गाधे यत्कटंजाचरितं तथा || ३३ ||

bhaviṣyadbhūtakālasthaṃ yathā traikālyadarśinaḥ | pratibhābheti gādhe yatkaṭaṃjācaritaṃ tathā || 33 ||

English

Just as those who see the three times (past, present, future) perceive what will happen in the future, similarly, the intelligence understands the actions of the past.

हिन्दी

जैसे तीनों काल (भूत, वर्तमान, भविष्य) देखने वाले भविष्य में होने वाली घटनाओं को देखते हैं, उसी प्रकार बुद्धि भूतकाल के कर्मों को समझती है।

अयं सोऽहमिदं तन्म इति मज्जति नात्मवान् | अयं सोऽहमिदं तन्म इति मज्जत्यनात्मवान् || ३४ ||

ayaṃ so'hamidaṃ tanma iti majjati nātmavān | ayaṃ so'hamidaṃ tanma iti majjaty anātmavān || 34 ||

English

This one is that, I am this, that is mine, thus the self-realized one does not get immersed. This one is that, I am this, that is mine, thus the non-self-realized one gets immersed.

हिन्दी

यह वह है, मैं यह हूँ, वह मेरा है, इस प्रकार आत्मज्ञानी डूबता नहीं है। यह वह है, मैं यह हूँ, वह मेरा है, इस प्रकार अनात्मज्ञानी डूब जाता है।

सर्वमेवाहमेवेति तत्त्वज्ञो नावसीदति | न गृह्णाति पदार्थेषु विभागानर्थभावनम् || ३५ ||

sarvamevāhamēvēti tattvajñō nāvasīdati | na gṛhṇāti padārthēṣu vibhāgānarthabhāvanam || 35 ||

English

The one who knows the truth, thinking 'I am everything,' does not despair. They do not perceive the distinctions of objects as having any real significance.

हिन्दी

जो तत्वज्ञ है, वह 'मैं ही सब कुछ हूँ' कहकर निराश नहीं होता | वह वस्तुओं में भेदों को कोई अर्थ नहीं समझता |

तेनासौ भ्रमयोगेषु सुखदुःखविलासिषु | न निमज्जति मग्नोऽपि तुम्बीपात्रमिवाम्भसि || ३६ ||

tēnāsau bhramayōgēṣu sukhaduḥkhavilāsiṣu | na nimajjati magnaḥ api tumbīpātramivāmbhasi || 36 ||

English

Therefore, he does not get immersed in the illusions of happiness and sorrow, even though he is immersed in them, like a gourd in water.

हिन्दी

इसलिए, वह सुख-दुःख के भ्रम में डूबा नहीं रहता, भले ही वह उनमें डूबा हो, जैसे एक लौकी पानी में डूबी होती है |

त्वं तावद्वासनाजालग्रस्तचित्तो विचेतनः | किंचिच्छेषमहाव्याधिरिव न स्वस्थमागतः || ३७ ||

tvaṃ tāvadvāsanājālagrastacittō vicētanaḥ | kiṃcicchēṣamahāvyādhiriva na svasthamāgataḥ || 37 ||

English

You, whose mind is entangled in the web of desires, are unconscious and have not regained your health, like a remnant of a great disease.

हिन्दी

तुम, जिसका मन इच्छाओं के जाल में उलझा हुआ है, अचेत हो और एक बड़े रोग के अवशेष की तरह स्वस्थ नहीं हुए हो |

ज्ञानस्यापरिपूर्णत्वान्न शक्रोषि मनोभ्रमम् | विनिवारयितुं मेघमसम्यग्यत्नवानिव || ३८ ||

jñānasyāparipūrṇatvānna śakroṣi manōbhramam | vinivārayituṃ mēghamasamyyatyatnavāniva || 38 ||

English

Due to the incompleteness of your knowledge, you are unable to dispel the delusion of the mind, like one who tries to stop a cloud with improper effort.

हिन्दी

आपके ज्ञान की अपूर्णता के कारण, आप मन के भ्रम को दूर नहीं कर सकते, जैसे कोई गलत प्रयास से बादल को रोकने की कोशिश करता है |

यदेव ते मनोमात्रे सहसा प्रतिभासते | तरुरुच्चजनेनेव तेनैवाक्रम्यसे क्षणात् || ३९ ||

yadēva tē manōmātrē sahasā pratibhāsatē | tarurucchajanēnēva tēnēvākrāmyasē kṣaṇāt || 39 ||

English

Whatever suddenly appears in your mind, you are immediately overpowered by it, like a tree is overpowered by a sudden gust of wind.

हिन्दी

जो भी तुम्हारे मन में अचानक प्रकट होता है, तुम उससे तुरंत घिर जाते हो, जैसे एक पेड़ अचानक हवा के झोंके से घिर जाता है |

चित्तं नाभिः किलास्येह मायाचक्रस्य सर्वतःस्थीयते चेत्तदाक्रम्य तन्न किंचित्प्रबाधते || ४० ||

cittaṃ nābhiḥ kilāsyeha māyācakrasya sarvataḥsthīyate cettadākramya tanna kiṃcitprabādhate || 40 ||

English

The mind is indeed the center of the wheel of illusion here. If one stands firm in that, it does not disturb anything.

हिन्दी

मन वास्तव में भ्रम के चक्र का केंद्र है। अगर कोई उसमें दृढ़ रहे, तो वह किसी को भी विचलित नहीं करता।

त्वमुत्तिष्ठ गिरेः कुञ्जे दशवर्षाण्यखिन्नधीःतपः कुरु ततो ज्ञानमनन्तं समवाप्स्यसि || ४१ ||

tvamuttiṣṭha gireḥ kuñje daśavarṣāṇyakhinnadhīḥtapaḥ kuru tato jñānamanantaṃ samavāpsyasi || 41 ||

English

Arise, go to the mountain cave, and perform austerities for ten years with an unwavering mind. Then you will attain infinite knowledge.

हिन्दी

उठो, पर्वत की गुफा में जाओ और दस वर्षों तक अटल मन से तपस्या करो। तब तुम अनन्त ज्ञान प्राप्त करोगे।

gādhirvivekavaśajaṃ vairāgyapadamāgataḥśaratsamayaparyante vairasyamiva pādapaḥ || 43 ||

English

Gadhi, having attained the state of detachment through the power of discrimination, remained like a tree devoid of taste until the end of the autumn season.

गाधि, विवेक के प्रभाव से वैराग्य की स्थिति प्राप्त करके, शरद ऋतु के अन्त तक एक स्वादहीन वृक्ष की तरह रहे।

विचित्रं चेष्टितं धातुरसमञ्जसमागतम्भ्रमद्भमभरोन्मुक्तमतिर्मन्दमगर्हयत् || ४४ ||

vicitraṃ ceṣṭitaṃ dhāturasamañjasamāgatambhramadbhamabharonmuktamatirmandamagarhayat || 44 ||

English

He performed various strange actions, being overwhelmed by grief, and his mind was confused and slow, not blaming anyone.

जगाम करुणार्द्रात्मा नियमायोत्तमश्रिये | विश्रान्त्यै ऋष्यमूकं तु पयोधर इवाचलम् || ४५ ||

jagāma karuṇārdrātmā niyamāyottamaśriye | viśrāntyai ṛṣyamūkaṃ tu payodhara ivācalam || 45 ||

English

The compassionate one went to the excellent observance for the sake of rest, like a cloud to the mountain.

निरस्ताशेषसंकल्पस्तपस्तत्र चकार ह | दशवर्षाणि तेनासावात्मज्ञानमवाप ह || ४६ ||

nirastāśeṣasaṃkalpastapastatra cakāra ha | daśavarṣāṇi tenāsāvātmajñānamavāpa ha || 46 ||

English

Having abandoned all desires, he performed penance there for ten years, and thus he attained self-knowledge.

सभी इच्छाओं को त्यागकर, उसने वहाँ दस वर्षों तक तपस्या की, और इस प्रकार उसने आत्मज्ञान प्राप्त किया।

अरमत तदनु स्वां प्राप्य सत्तां महात्मा ह्यपगतभयशोको भोगभूमावनीषु | सततमुदितजीवन्मुक्तरूपः प्रशान्तः सकल इव शशाङ्को घूर्णितापूर्णचेताः || ४७ ||

aramata tadanu svāṃ prāpya sattāṃ mahātmā hyapagatabhayaśoko bhogabhūmāvanīṣu | satatamuditajīvanmuktarūpaḥ praśāntaḥ sakala iva śaśāṅko ghūrṇitāpūrṇacetāḥ || 47 ||

English

Then, having attained his own true nature, the great soul enjoyed the worldly pleasures without fear or sorrow. Always joyful and liberated, he was calm like the full moon.
