श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच संसारसागरासारकल्लोलैरुह्यमाना। मातर्मानद मूकत्वं यया जनतयार्जितम् || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca saṃsārasāgarāsārakallolairuhyamānayā matermānada mūkatvaṃ yayā janatayārjitam || 1 ||

English

Sage Vasistha said, O Mother, the silence of the Self, which is attained by people, is carried away by the meaningless waves of the ocean of worldly existence.

हिन्दी

ऋषि वसिष्ठ ने कहा, हे माता, संसार-सागर की निरर्थक लहरों द्वारा आत्मा का मौन, जो लोगों द्वारा प्राप्त किया जाता है, बहा लिया जाता है।

आत्मलाभमयोदारकलाभिरिह सा मया विचारोक्तिभिरेताभिः शास्त्रेऽस्मिन्नुपदिश्यते || २ ||

ātmalābhamayodārakalābhiriha sā mayā vicāroktibhiretābhiḥ śāstre'sminnupadiśyate || 2 ||

English

In this scripture, that which is of the nature of the supreme gain of the Self is taught by me through these expressions of inquiry, which are like the joyous attainment of a precious treasure.

हिन्दी

इस शास्त्र में, आत्मा के लाभ रूपी अनमोल खजाने की प्राप्ति के समान इन विचारपूर्ण उक्तियों द्वारा मैं उपदेश देता हूँ।

न पश्यत्येव योऽत्यर्थं तस्य कः खलु दुर्मतिः विचित्रमञ्जरी चित्रं संदर्शयति काननम् || ३ ||

na paśyatyeva yo'tyarthaṃ tasya kaḥ khalu durmatiḥ vicitramañjarī citraṃ saṃdarśayati kānanam || 3 ||

English

For one who does not truly see, what foolishness is there? The forest reveals its wondrous blossoms and vibrant beauty, yet he remains blind to it all.

हिन्दी

जो वास्तव में नहीं देखता, उसकी कैसी मूर्खता है? वन अपनी अद्भुत कलियों और रंगीन सुंदरता को दिखाता है, फिर भी वह उसे नहीं देख पाता।

कः कुष्ठघर्घरघ्राणं नानामोदविचारणे मूर्खमात्मोपदेशेन प्रमाणीकुरुतेऽमतिḥ || ४ ||

kaḥ kuṣṭhaghargharaghrāṇaṃ nānāmodavicāraṇe mūrkhamātmopadeśena pramāṇīkurute'matiḥ || 4 ||

English

Who would consider a fool, who smells the foul odor of leprosy and delights in various scents, as an authority by giving him instruction about the Self?

जो कुष्ठ रोग की दुर्गंध को सूँघता है और तरह-तरह की सुगंधों में आनंद लेता है, उसे आत्मा के उपदेश से कौन प्रमाण मान सकता है?

विपर्यस्तेन्द्रियं मत्तं मदीराघूर्णितेक्षणम् धर्मनिर्णयसाक्षित्वे कः प्रमाणीकरोत्यधीः || ५ ||

viparyastendriyaṃ mattaṃ madirāghūrṇitekṣaṇam dharmanirṇayasākṣitve kaḥ pramāṇīkarotyadhīḥ || 5 ||

English

Who would consider as an authority one whose senses are perverted, who is intoxicated, and whose eyes are rolling with the effect of liquor, when it comes to determining the truth of dharma?

जिसके इंद्रियाँ विपरीत हो गई हैं, जो मत्त है और जिसके नेत्र मदिरा के प्रभाव से घूम रहे हैं, धर्म के सत्य निर्णय में उसे कौन प्रमाण मान सकता है?

कः शवं वा श्मशानस्थं समवायकथाशतम् | परिपृच्छति संदेहे कश्च मूर्खं प्रशास्ति च || ६ ||

kaḥ śavaṃ vā śmaśānasthaṃ samavāyakathāśatam | paripṛcchati saṃdehe kaśca mūrkhaṃ praśāsti ca || 6 ||

English

Who asks a corpse in a cremation ground a hundred stories of association, or who rules a fool in doubt?

हिन्दी

कौन शव को श्मशान में सौ संबंध कथाएँ पूछता है, या कौन संदेह में मूर्ख को शासन करता है?

येनाशयबिलस्थोऽपि मूकोन्धोऽपि न निर्जितः | मनोव्यालः सदुर्बुद्धिः कथं नामोपदिश्यते || ७ ||

yenāśayabilstho'pi mūkondho'pi na nirjitaḥ | manovyālaḥ sadurbuddhiḥ kathaṃ nāmopadiśyate || 7 ||

English

Even if one is in the cave of ignorance and is dumb, he is not defeated. How can the serpent of the mind, which is always of bad intellect, be instructed?

हिन्दी

यदि कोई अज्ञान की गुफा में है और गूँगा है, तो भी वह हारा नहीं है। मन का सर्प, जो हमेशा बुरी बुद्धि वाला है, उसे कैसे शिक्षा दी जाए?

जितमेव मनो विद्धि वस्तुतो यन्न विद्यते | निकटात्सा चिरास्तैव या शिला नैव विद्यते || ८ ||

jitameva mano viddhi vastuto yanna vidyate | nikaṭātsā cirāsteva yā śilā naiva vidyate || 8 ||

English

Know that the mind is conquered when it does not exist in reality. That stone which is not there is indeed far away even if it is near.

हिन्दी

मन को जीता हुआ समझो जब वह वास्तविकता में नहीं होता। जो पत्थर नहीं है, वह पास होने पर भी दूर ही है।

मनो न विजितं राम येनासदपि दुर्धिया | तेनाग्रस्तविषेणैव म्रियते विषमूर्च्छया || ९ ||

mano na vijitaṃ rāma yenāsadapi durdhiyā | tenāgrastaviṣeṇaiva mriyate viṣamūrcchayā || 9 ||

English

O Rama, the mind that is not conquered, even if it is non-existent, by the evil-minded one, is seized by poison and dies in the intoxication of poison.

हिन्दी

हे राम, मन जो नहीं जीता जाता, यदि वह असत् है, दुर्बुद्धि वाले द्वारा, वह विष से पकड़ा जाता है और विष की मदिरा में मर जाता है।

ज्ञः पश्यति सदैवात्मा स्पन्दने प्राणशक्तयः | इन्द्रियाणि स्वधर्मेषु मनो राम किमुच्यते || १० ||

jñaḥ paśyati sadaivātmā spandane prāṇaśaktayaḥ | indriyāṇi svadharmeṣu mano rāma kimucyate || 10 ||

English

The knower always sees the self in the pulsation of the life forces. The senses in their own duties, what can be said about the mind, O Rama?

हिन्दी

ज्ञाता हमेशा प्राण शक्तियों के स्पंदन में आत्मा को देखता है। इंद्रियाँ अपने कर्तव्यों में, मन के बारे में क्या कहा जा सकता है, हे राम?

प्राणानां स्पन्दनी शक्तिर्ज्ञानशक्तिः परात्मनः | इन्द्रियाणां निजा शक्तिरेकः कोऽत्र निबध्यते || ११ ||

prāṇānāṃ spandanī śaktirjñānaśaktiḥ parātmanaḥ | indriyāṇāṃ nijā śaktirekaḥ ko'tra nibadhyate || 11 ||

English

The power of the pulsation of the breaths is the power of knowledge of the Supreme Self. The power of the senses is one, who is bound here?

हिन्दी

प्राणों की स्पन्दन शक्ति परमात्मा की ज्ञान शक्ति है। इन्द्रियों की अपनी शक्ति एक है, यहाँ कौन बँधा है?

सर्वास्तदंशवस्तस्य सर्वशक्तेः किलात्मनः | पृथक्ता वाच्यता चेयं कुतो नाम तवोत्थिता || १२ ||

sarvāstadāṃśavastasya sarvaśakteḥ kilātmanaḥ | pṛthaktā vācyatā ceyaṃ kuto nāma tavotthitā || 12 ||

English

All these are parts of that all-powerful Self. Why does this separateness and expressibility arise in you?

हिन्दी

ये सभी उस सर्वशक्तिमान आत्मा के अंश हैं। तुममें यह अलगाव और अभिव्यक्ति क्यों उत्पन्न होती है?

किं नाम जीव इत्युक्तं येनेहान्धीकृतं जगत् | चित्तं चैवासदेव त्वं विद्धि का तस्य शक्तता || १३ ||

kiṃ nāma jīva ityuktaṃ yenehāndhīkṛtaṃ jagat | cittaṃ caivāsadeva tvaṃ viddhi kā tasya śaktatā || 13 ||

English

What is called the individual self by which this world is made blind? Know that the mind is also unreal, what is its power?

हिन्दी

जिसे जीव कहा जाता है, जिससे यह संसार अंधा हो गया है? जान लो कि मन भी असत्य है, उसकी शक्ति क्या है?

मनोनिर्दग्धदृष्टीनां दृष्ट्वा दुःखपरम्पराम् | मतिर्मे करुणाक्रान्ता राम मुग्धेव तप्यते || १४ ||

manonirdagdhadṛṣṭīnāṃ dṛṣṭvā duḥkhaparamparām | matirmekaruṇākrāntā rāma mugdheva tapyate || 14 ||

English

Seeing the continuous suffering of those whose vision is burned by the mind, my mind is filled with compassion, O Rama, and grieves like an ignorant person.

हिन्दी

मन द्वारा जली हुई दृष्टि वालों के लगातार दुःख देखकर, मेरा मन करुणा से भर गया, हे राम, और एक अज्ञानी की तरह दुःखी हो गया।

कः किलात्र कुतः खेदो यन्मूर्खः परितप्यते | दुःखायैव हि जायन्ते करभाः प्राकृतास्तथा || १५ ||

kaḥ kilātra kutaḥ khedo yanmūrkhaḥ paritapyate | duḥkhāyaiva hi jāyante karabhāḥ prākṛtāstathā || 15 ||

English

Who here is distressed and why, that a fool grieves? Indeed, only for suffering are the ignorant born, like beasts.

हिन्दी

यहाँ कौन दुःखी है और क्यों, कि एक मूर्ख दुःखी होता है? निश्चित रूप से, दुःख के लिए ही अज्ञानी पैदा होते हैं, पशुओं की तरह।

विनाशायैव जायन्ते जडा देहेष्वबुद्धयः | अनारतोदयाः पापा बुद्बुदा जलधेरिव || १६ ||

vināśāyaiva jāyante jaḍā deheṣvabuddhayaḥ | anāratodayāḥ pāpā budbudā jaladheriva || 16 ||

English

Those who are ignorant are born only to be destroyed, like bubbles in water that continuously arise and are sinful.

जो मूर्ख हैं, वे नष्ट होने के लिए ही पैदा होते हैं, जैसे पानी में बुलबुले जो लगातार उठते हैं और पापी होते हैं।

कियन्तः पश्य पशवः प्रत्यहं प्रतिमण्डलम् | सूनावद्भिर्निहन्यन्ते कैवात्र परिदेवना || १७ ||

kiyantaḥ paśya paśavaḥ pratyahaṃ pratimaṇḍalam | sūnāvadbhirnihaṇyante kaivātra paridevanā || 17 ||

English

See how many animals are killed daily in every region by hunters. What is there to lament here?

हिन्दी

देखो, कितने पशु प्रतिदिन हर क्षेत्र में शिकारियों द्वारा मारे जाते हैं। यहाँ शोक करने की क्या बात है?

अर्बुदान्यनिलो हन्ति क्षमाजातेषु चान्वहम् | दंशानां मशकानां च कैवात्र परिदेवना || १८ ||

arbudānyanilo hanti kṣamājāteṣu cānvaham | daṃśānāṃ maśakānāṃ ca kaivātra paridevanā || 18 ||

English

The wind destroys billions of tiny creatures like mosquitoes and flies daily. What is there to lament here?

हिन्दी

हवा प्रतिदिन अरबों छोटे जीवों जैसे मच्छरों और मक्खियों को नष्ट कर देती है। यहाँ शोक करने की क्या बात है?

दिशं प्रति गिरीन्द्रेषु पुलिन्दाद्या वने वने | निघ्नन्ति मृगलक्षाणि कैवात्र परिदेवना || १९ ||

diśaṃ prati girīndreṣu pulindādyā vane vane | nighnanti mṛgalakṣāṇi kaivātra paridevanā || 19 ||

English

In every direction, in every forest, hunters like the Pulindas kill countless deer. What is there to lament here?

हिन्दी

हर दिशा में, हर जंगल में, पुलिंद जैसे शिकारी असंख्य हिरणों को मारते हैं। यहाँ शोक करने की क्या बात है?

जले जलचरव्यूहान्सूक्ष्मान्स्थूलो निकृन्तति | ग्रासार्थं निर्दयो मत्स्यः कैवात्र परिदेवना || २० ||

jale jalacaravyūhānsūkṣmānsthūlo nikṛntati | grāsārthaṃ nirdayo matsyaḥ kaivātra paridevanā || 20 ||

English

In water, large fish mercilessly devour smaller aquatic creatures for food. What is there to lament here?

हिन्दी

पानी में, बड़े मछली छोटे जलचरों को भोजन के लिए निर्दयता से खा जाती हैं। यहाँ शोक करने की क्या बात है?

लिक्षामणुकणक्षामां क्षुधा खादति मक्षिका | तां कोशकारः क्षुधितो दंशस्तमपि चञ्चलम् || २१ ||

likṣāmaṇukṇakṣāmāṃ kṣudhā khādati makṣikā | tāṃ kośakāraḥ kṣudhito daṃśastamapi cañcalam || 21 ||

English

A tiny insect is eaten by a hungry mosquito, which in turn is eaten by a hungry spider.

हिन्दी

एक छोटे से कीट को एक भूखी मच्छर खा जाती है, जिसे एक भूखा मकड़ी खा जाता है।

तं दंशं दर्दुरो भुङ्क्ते व्यालस्तमपि दर्दुरम् | सर्पमुग्रं खगो हन्ति बभ्रुश्चैनं निकृन्तति || २२ ||

taṃ daṃśaṃ darduro bhuṅkte vyālastamapi darduram | sarpamugraṃ khago hanti babhruścainaṃ nikṛntati || 22 ||

English

The spider is eaten by a frog, which is then eaten by a snake. The fierce snake is killed by a bird, which is then killed by a mongoose.

हिन्दी

मकड़ी एक मेंढक द्वारा खाया जाता है, जो फिर एक साँप द्वारा खाया जाता है। भयानक साँप एक पक्षी द्वारा मारा जाता है, जो फिर एक नेवले द्वारा मारा जाता है।

बभ्रुं हिनस्ति मार्जारो मार्जारं श्वा निकृन्तति | ऋक्षः कौलेयकं हन्ति ऋक्षं व्याघ्रो निकृन्तति || २३ ||

babhruṃ hinasti mārjāro mārjāraṃ śvā nikṛntati | ṛkṣaḥ kauleyakaṃ hanti ṛkṣaṃ vyāghro nikṛntati || 23 ||

English

The mongoose is killed by a cat, which is then killed by a dog. The bear kills the dog, and the tiger kills the bear.

हिन्दी

नेवला एक बिल्ली द्वारा मारा जाता है, जो फिर एक कुत्ते द्वारा मारा जाता है। भालू कुत्ते को मारता है, और बाघ भालू को मारता है।

सिंहोऽभिभवति व्याघ्रं शरभः सिंहमत्ति च | शरभो नाशमायाति मत्तमेघविलङ्घने || २४ ||

siṃho'bhibhavati vyāghraṃ śarabhaḥ siṃhamatti ca | śarabho nāśamāyāti mattameghavilaṅghane || 24 ||

English

The lion overpowers the tiger, and the mythical eight-legged beast (sharabha) eats the lion. The sharabha meets its end in the intoxicating clouds.

हिन्दी

शेर बाघ पर भारी पड़ता है, और आठ पैरों वाला पौराणिक जीव (शरभ) शेर को खा जाता है। शरभ नशीली बादलों में अपना अंत पाता है।

मेघा वातैर्विधूयन्ते वायवो गिरिभिर्जिताः | गिरयो वज्रनिष्पिष्टाः शक्रस्य वशगः पविः || २५ ||

meghā vātairvidhūyante vāyavo giribhirjitāḥ | girayo vajraniṣpiṣṭāḥ śakrasya vaśagaḥ paviḥ || 25 ||

English

The clouds are dispersed by the winds, which are conquered by the mountains. The mountains are shattered by the thunderbolt, and the thunderbolt is under the control of Indra.

हिन्दी

बादल हवाओं द्वारा बिखर जाते हैं, जो पहाड़ों द्वारा जीत ली जाती हैं। पहाड़ वज्र से चूर-चूर हो जाते हैं, और वज्र इंद्र के नियंत्रण में है।

विष्णुना क्रियते शक्रो विष्णुर्गच्छति जन्तुताम् | सुखदुःखदशामेतां जरामरणपालिताम् || २६ ||

viṣṇunā kriyate śakro viṣṇurgacchati jantutām | sukhaduḥkhadaśāmetāṃ jarāmaraṇapālitām || 26 ||

English

By Vishnu, Indra is created, and Vishnu attains the state of a living being | Experiencing happiness and sorrow, this state is governed by old age and death

विष्णु द्वारा इंद्र की रचना होती है, और विष्णु जीव की अवस्था को प्राप्त होते हैं | सुख और दुःख की यह दशा बुढ़ापे और मृत्यु से पालित है

जन्तवोऽपि महाकाया अपि विद्यायुधान्विताः | लिक्षाभिरङ्गलग्नाभिरुपजीव्यन्त एव हि || २७ ||

jantavo'pi mahākāyā api vidyāyudhānvitāḥ | likṣābhiraṅgalagnābhirupajīvyanta eva hi || 27 ||

English

Even the mighty beings, endowed with the weapons of knowledge, are sustained by the smallest particles

महान जीव भी, ज्ञान के अस्त्रों से युक्त, सबसे छोटे कणों द्वारा पालित होते हैं

अजस्रमेवमालूनविशीर्णं भूतजङ्गलम् | परस्परमलं मोहादद्यते रक्ष्यतेऽपि च || २८ ||

ajasram evam ālūnaviśīrṇaṃ bhūtajaṅgalam | parasparamalaṃ mohād adyate rakṣyate'pi ca || 28 ||

English

Thus, the forest of beings, constantly being destroyed and renewed, is devoured and protected by each other due to delusion

अनारतं विनश्यन्ति विविधा भूतजातयः | अनारतं च जायन्ते लिक्षायूकापिपीलिकाः || २९ ||

anārataṃ vinaśyanti vividhā bhūtajātayaḥ | anārataṃ ca jāyante likṣāyūkāpipīlikāḥ || 29 ||

English

Various kinds of beings continuously perish and are continuously born, including the smallest insects like ants

विभिन्न प्रकार के जीव निरंतर नष्ट होते हैं और निरंतर जन्म लेते हैं, जिसमें सबसे छोटे कीटों जैसे चींटियाँ शामिल हैं

English

In water bodies, creatures like fish and crocodiles are born | On land, insects like ants and scorpions are born

antarikṣe'pi jāyante ākāśavihagādayaḥ | vanavīthiṣu jāyante siṃhavyāghramṛgādayaḥ || 31 ||

English

In the sky, birds and other creatures are born | In the forest paths, lions, tigers, and other animals are born

आकाश में भी पक्षी और अन्य जीव उत्पन्न होते हैं | वन की पगडंडियों में शेर, बाघ और अन्य जानवर उत्पन्न होते हैं

प्राण्यङ्गेष्वपि जायन्ते विचित्राः ककुभं प्रति | स्थावरेष्वपि जायन्ते घुणा जघनकादयः || ३२ ||

prāṇyaṅgeṣvapi jāyante vicitraḥ kakubhaṃ prati | sthāvareṣvapi jāyante ghuṇā jaghanakādayaḥ || 32 ||

English

In the limbs of living beings, various parasites are born | In immovable objects, insects like termites are born

प्राणियों के अंगों में भी विविध परजीवी उत्पन्न होते हैं | स्थावर वस्तुओं में भी कीड़े जैसे दीमक उत्पन्न होते हैं

शिलान्तरेषु जायन्ते कीटभेकघुणादयः | विष्ठायामपि जायन्ते नानाकीटगणास्तथा || ३३ ||

śilāntareṣu jāyante kīṭabhekaghuṇādayaḥ | viṣṭhāyāmapi jāyante nānākīṭagaṇāstathā || 33 ||

English

In the crevices of rocks, insects, frogs, and termites are born | In excrement, various kinds of insects are born

हिन्दी

चट्टानों की दरारों में कीड़े, मेंढक, और दीमक उत्पन्न होते हैं | मल में भी विविध प्रकार के कीड़े उत्पन्न होते हैं

एवमेतेष्वसंख्येषु जन्मस्वपचयेषु च | अजस्रं करुणावन्तो नन्दन्तु प्ररुदन्तु वा || ३४ ||

evameteṣvasaṃkhyeṣu janmasvapacayeṣu ca | ajasraṃ karuṇāvanto nandantu prarudantu vā || 34 ||

English

Thus, in these countless births and deaths, the compassionate ones may rejoice or weep

अनारतमृतावस्मिन्ननारतसमुद्भवे | संसारसंभ्रमे युक्ता न तुष्टिर्न च दुःखिता || ३५ ||

anāratamṛtāvasminnanāratasamudbhave | saṃsārasaṃbhrae yuktā na tuṣṭirna ca duḥkhitā || 35 ||

English

In this unceasing cycle of death and birth, those who are engaged in the confusion of worldly existence experience neither satisfaction nor sorrow

हिन्दी

इस अविराम मृत्यु और जन्म के चक्र में, जो लोग संसार के भ्रम में फँसे हुए हैं, वे न तो संतुष्ट होते हैं न ही दुःखी

पङ्क्तयस्त्वेवमेवेमा वृक्षपर्णगणैः समाःउत्पत्योत्पत्य लीयन्ते भूतानां भूरिसंभवाः || ३६ ||

paṅktayastvevamevemā vṛkṣaparṇagaṇaiḥ samāḥutpatyotpatya līyante bhūtānāṃ bhūrisaṃbhavāḥ || 36 ||

English

Just as the rows of leaves on a tree are similar and continuously emerge and dissolve, so do the numerous beings in the world.

हिन्दी

जैसे पेड़ के पत्तों की पंक्तियाँ समान होती हैं और लगातार उत्पन्न होती हैं और विलीन होती हैं, वैसे ही संसार के अनेक जीव भी होते हैं।

यः प्रवृत्तः कुबुद्धीनां दयावान्दुःखमार्जनेस्वगतच्छत्रनिर्मृष्टसूर्यांशु खिद्यते नभः || ३७ ||

yaḥ pravṛttaḥ kubuddhīnāṃ dayāvānduḥkhamārjanesvagatacchatranirmṛṣṭasūryāṃśu khidyate nabhaḥ || 37 ||

English

The one who is engaged in helping the foolish out of compassion, even though he is protected by the shade of his own umbrella, is distressed by the sun's rays in the sky.

हिन्दी

जो दया से मूर्खों की मदद करता है, वह अपने छत्र की छाया में होने के बावजूद आकाश में सूर्य की किरणों से पीड़ित होता है।

English

Even stones weep seeing the calamity of fools who are immersed in the mire of their own minds and engaged in actions leading to their own destruction.

अनिर्जितात्मचित्तानां समन्ताद्दुःखदा दशाः| तन्मार्जनं कृतप्रज्ञो नाऽतः संप्रतिपद्यते || ४१ ||

anirjitātmacittānāṃ samantādduḥkhadā daśāḥ| tanmārjanaṃ kṛtaprajño nā'taḥ saṃpratipadyate || 41 ||

English

For those who have not conquered their minds, there are sorrows from all sides. The wise one does not accept the cleansing of those.

जिन्होंने अपने मन को जीता नहीं है, उनके लिए सब ओर से दुःख हैं। बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति उस शुद्धि को स्वीकार नहीं करता।

विनिर्जितात्मचित्तानां दुःखानि रघुनन्दन| सुविचार्याणि तेनात्र ज्ञातज्ञेयः प्रवर्तताम् || ४२ ||

vinirjitātmacittānāṃ duḥkhāni raghunandana| suvicāryāṇi tenātra jñātajñeyaḥ pravartatām || 42 ||

English

For those who have conquered their minds, the sorrows, O Raghunandana, are to be well considered. The knower of the known should act accordingly.

मनो नास्ति महाबाहो मा मुधोप प्रकल्पय| अनेन कल्पितेन त्वं वेतालेनेव हन्यसे || ४३ ||

mano nāsti mahābāho mā mudhopa prakalpaya| anena kalpitena tvaṃ vetāleneva hanyase || 43 ||

English

O mighty-armed one, the mind does not exist, do not imagine it foolishly. By this imagined mind, you are being destroyed like a ghost.

हे महाबाहो, मन नहीं है, मूर्खतापूर्वक इसे कल्पना मत करो। इस कल्पित मन से तुम वेताल की तरह नष्ट हो रहे हो।

यावद्विस्मृतवानात्मतत्त्वं मूढो भवद्भवान्| तावत्तव मनोव्यालो बभूवाभ्युदितस्ततः || ४४ ||

yāvadvismṛtavānātmatattvaṃ mūḍho bhavadbhavān| tāvattava manovyālo babhūvābhyuditastataḥ || 44 ||

English

As long as you, O foolish one, have forgotten the truth of the self, your mental serpent has arisen from that.

जब तक तुम, हे मूढ़, आत्मतत्त्व को भूले हुए हो, तब तक तुम्हारा मानसिक सर्प उससे उत्पन्न होता है।

इदानीं भवता ज्ञातं यथाभूतमरिंदम| संकल्पाद्वर्धते चित्तं तदेवाशु परित्यज || ४५ ||

idānīṃ bhavatā jñātaṃ yathābhūtamarindama| saṃkalpādvardhate cittaṃ tadevāśu parityaja || 45 ||

English

Now, O subduer of enemies, you have known the truth as it is. The mind grows from imagination, abandon that immediately.

अब, हे शत्रुओं को जीतने वाले, तुमने यथार्थ सत्य को जान लिया है। मन कल्पना से बढ़ता है, उसे तुरंत छोड़ दो।

दृश्यमाश्रयसीदं चेत्तत्सचित्तोऽसि बान्धवान् | दृश्यं संत्यजसीदं चेत्तत्सचित्तोसि मोक्षवान् || ४६ ||

dṛśyamāśrayasīdaṃ cettatsacitto'si bāndhavān | dṛśyaṃ saṃtyajasīdaṃ cettatsacittosi mokṣavān || 46 ||

English

If you cling to the visible world, then you are bound; if you renounce it, then you are liberated.

This collection of qualities is indeed for bondage; renounce it and be free. Act as you wish.

Meditating on 'I am not this,' stand firm, O immovable one. You are the lord of the heart, with a heart as vast as the infinite sky.

English

O Rama, you are the pure, untainted part of the self and the world. Renouncing duality, be established in the whole and be steady.

English

Always contemplate your true self in the state of the inner seer and the seen, which is known as vision.

English

Relying on the experience of Rama and the experiencer, be steadfast in the middle path, which is supportless.

Abandoning the states of being and non-being, meditate on the Self in this way, and be established in the Self.

English

O Raghava, when the conviction arises that this world is indeed the Self, then the mind becomes non-existent, there is no doubt about it.

evaṃ satyāvabodhena svātmaivedamiti sthitiḥ | manaḥ sugalitaṃ viddhi sūryabhāsā tamo yathā || 62 ||

English

Thus, with the realization of the truth, the state of 'this is indeed the Self' is established. Know that the mind becomes purified, just as darkness is dispelled by the light of the sun.

As long as the serpent of the mind resides in the body, there is great fear. When it is removed through yoga, where is the scope for fear?

English

When the powerful demon of the mind leaves the body, be free from anxiety and agitation. Stand firm, there is no fear for you.

जब मन का बलवान यक्ष शरीर से निकल जाता है, तो चिंता और उद्वेग से मुक्त हो जाओ। दृढ़ खड़े रहो, तुम्हारे लिए कोई भय नहीं है।

नीराग एव निरुपार्जन एव चास्मीत्येतावतैव गलिता तव चित्तसत्तानिर्दुःखमुत्तमपदं परमं गतोऽसि तिष्ठोपशान्तपरमैषण एवमन्तः || ६६ ||

nīrāga eva nirupārjana eva cāsmītyetāvataiva galitā tava cittasattānirduḥkhamuttamapadaṃ paramaṃ gato'si tiṣṭhopaśāntaparamaiṣaṇa evamantaḥ || 66 ||

English

Being free from passion and free from possessions, you have thus dissolved your mental existence. You have attained the supreme state, the highest abode, free from sorrow. Remain in this ultimate peace.
