श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | एवं जनकवद्राम विचार्यात्मानमात्मना | पदं विदितवेद्यानामविघ्नेनाधिगच्छसि || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | evaṃ janakavadrāma vicāryātmānamātmanā | padaṃ viditavedyānāmaviṅhnenādhigacchasi || 1 ||

English

Shri Vasishtha said: Thus, O Rama, by reflecting on the self with the self, you will attain the state of the knowers of the Vedas without any obstacles.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: इस प्रकार, हे राम, आत्मा को आत्मा से विचार करके, तुम वेदज्ञों की अवस्था को बिना किसी बाधा के प्राप्त करोगे।

ये हि पाश्चात्यजन्मानः प्राज्ञा राजससात्त्विकाः | प्राप्नुवन्ति स्वयं प्राप्यं ते जना जनका इव || २ ||

ye hi pāścātyajanmānaḥ prājñā rājasasāttvikāḥ | prāpnuvanti svayaṃ prāpyaṃ te janā janakā iva || 2 ||

English

Those who are born in the West, who are wise, and who possess the qualities of rajas and sattva, they attain the attainable by themselves, like Janaka.

हिन्दी

जो पश्चिम में जन्मे हैं, जो बुद्धिमान हैं, और जिनमें रजोगुण और सत्त्वगुण हैं, वे लोग जनक की तरह स्वयं प्राप्य को प्राप्त करते हैं।

तावत्तावद्विजित्यारीनिन्द्रियाख्यान्पुनःपुनः | यावदात्मात्मनैवायमात्मन्येव प्रसीदति || ३ ||

tāvattāvadvijityārīnindriyākhyānpunaḥpunaḥ | yāvadātmātmanaivāyamātmanyeva prasīdati || 3 ||

English

Until one conquers the enemies called senses again and again, until the self is pleased with the self.

हिन्दी

जब तक इंद्रियों को शत्रु मानकर बार-बार जीत नहीं लेता, तब तक आत्मा आत्मा से ही प्रसन्न नहीं होता।

प्रसन्ने सर्वगे देवे देवेशे परमात्मनि | स्वयमालोकिते सर्वाः क्षीयन्ते दुःखदृष्टयः || ४ ||

prasanne sarvage deve deveśe paramātmani | svayamālokite sarvāḥ kṣīyante duḥkhadṛṣṭayaḥ || 4 ||

English

When the all-pervading God, the Lord of gods, the Supreme Self, is pleased and seen by oneself, all sorrowful views vanish.

हिन्दी

जब सर्वव्यापी ईश्वर, देवताओं के स्वामी, परमात्मा प्रसन्न होता है और स्वयं देखा जाता है, तब सभी दुःखदायी दृष्टियाँ नष्ट हो जाती हैं।

मुष्टयो मोहबीजानां वृष्टयो विविधापदाम् | कुदृष्टयः क्षयं यान्ति दृष्टे तस्मिन्परावरे || ५ ||

muṣṭayo mohabījānāṃ vṛṣṭayo vividhāpadām | kudṛṣṭayaḥ kṣayaṃ yānti dṛṣṭe tasminparāvare || 5 ||

English

The sprouts of delusion, the showers of various calamities, and the evil views all perish when that Supreme Being is seen.

हिन्दी

भ्रम के बीज, विविध विपत्तियों की वर्षा, और दुष्ट दृष्टियाँ सभी तब नष्ट हो जाती हैं जब वह परम सत्ता देखी जाती है।

सदा जनकवद्राम सर्वारम्भवदात्मना | प्रज्ञयात्मानमालक्ष्य लक्ष्मीवानुत्तमो भव || ६ ||

sadā janakavadrāma sarvārambhavadātmanā | prajñayātmānamālakṣya lakṣmīvānuttamo bhava || 6 ||

English

Always be like Janaka, with a self-controlled mind in all endeavors. By recognizing the self with wisdom, become the best, endowed with prosperity.

हिन्दी

हमेशा जनक की तरह सभी कार्यों में आत्मसंयम से रहें। बुद्धि से आत्मा को पहचानकर, समृद्धि से युक्त उत्तम बनें।

नित्यमन्तर्विचारस्य पश्यतश्चञ्चलं जगत् | जनकस्येव कालेन स्वयमात्मा प्रसीदति || ७ ||

nityamantarvicārasya paśyataścañcalaṃ jagat | janakasyeva kālena svayamātmā prasīdati || 7 ||

English

By constantly reflecting within, one sees the ever-changing world. Like Janaka, over time, the self becomes pleased.

हिन्दी

निरंतर आंतरिक विचार करने से, एक व्यक्ति परिवर्तनशील संसार को देखता है। जनक की तरह, समय के साथ, आत्मा प्रसन्न हो जाती है।

न दैवं नच कर्माणि न धनानि न बान्धवाः | शरणं भवभीतानां स्वप्रयत्नादृते नृणाम् || ८ ||

na daivaṃ naca karmāṇi na dhanāni na bāndhavāḥ | śaraṇaṃ bhavabhītānāṃ svaprayatnādṛte nṛṇām || 8 ||

English

Neither destiny, nor actions, nor wealth, nor relatives are the refuge for those afraid of worldly existence, except for one's own effort.

हिन्दी

न तो भाग्य, न कर्म, न धन, न ही रिश्तेदार संसार से डरने वालों के लिए शरण हैं, अपने प्रयास के अलावा।

ये दैवनिष्ठाः कृत्यादौ कुविकल्पपरायणाः | तेषां मन्दा मतिस्तात नानुगम्या विनाशनी || ९ ||

ye daivanisthāḥ kṛtyādau kuvikalpaparāyaṇāḥ | teṣāṃ mandā matistāta nānugamyā vināśanī || 9 ||

English

Those who rely on destiny in their actions and are devoted to wrong resolutions, their intellect is weak, O father, and it is not to be followed as it leads to destruction.

हिन्दी

जो लोग अपने कार्यों में भाग्य पर निर्भर होते हैं और गलत संकल्पों के प्रति समर्पित होते हैं, उनकी बुद्धि कमजोर होती है, हे पिताजी, और उसे नहीं अनुसरण करना चाहिए क्योंकि यह विनाश की ओर ले जाती है।

विवेकं परमाश्रित्य विलोक्यात्मानमात्मना | धिया विरागोद्धुरया संसारजलधिं तरेत् || १० ||

vivekaṃ paramāśritya vilokyātmānamātmanā | dhiyā virāgoddhurayā saṃsārajaladhiṃ taret || 10 ||

English

Relying on supreme discernment, observing the self with the self, with a mind filled with dispassion, one should cross the ocean of worldly existence.

हिन्दी

परम विवेक पर निर्भर होकर, आत्मा को आत्मा से देखकर, विरक्ति से भरी बुद्धि से, एक व्यक्ति को संसार के समुद्र को पार करना चाहिए।

एषा सा कथिता राम नभःफलनिपातवत् सुखदा ज्ञानसंप्राप्तिरज्ञानतरुशातनी || ११ ||

eṣā sā kathitā rāma nabhaḥphalanipātavat sukhadā jñānasaṃprāptirajñānataruśātanī || 11 ||

English

This is the knowledge that has been described, O Rama, which falls from the sky like a fruit, brings happiness, attains knowledge, and destroys the tree of ignorance.

हिन्दी

यह वह ज्ञान है जो कहा गया है, हे राम, जो आकाश से फल की तरह गिरता है, सुख देता है, ज्ञान को प्राप्त करता है और अज्ञान के वृक्ष को नष्ट करता है।

जनकस्येव सद्बुद्धेः स्वयमेव विलोकिनः विकासमेत्ययं देही देवः प्रातरिवाम्बुजम् || १२ ||

janakasyeva sadbuddheḥ svayameva vilokinaḥ vikāsametyayaṃ dehī devaḥ prātarivāmbujam || 12 ||

English

Just as Janaka, the wise, sees by himself, this embodied being, like a god, blossoms like a lotus in the morning.

हिन्दी

जैसे जनक, विवेकी, स्वयं देखता है, वैसे ही यह देहधारी, देवता की तरह, सुबह के कमल की तरह खिलता है।

संसारमननं चित्रं विचारेण विलीयते गलद्वशीकृतस्पर्शमातपेन हिमं यथा || १३ ||

saṃsāramananaṃ citraṃ vicāreṇa vilīyate galadvashīkṛtasparśamātapena himaṃ yathā || 13 ||

English

The diverse thoughts of the world dissolve through contemplation, just as snow melts when touched by the sun's rays.

हिन्दी

संसार के विविध विचार विचार से घुल जाते हैं, जैसे बर्फ सूरज की किरणों से छूने पर पिघल जाती है।

अयमेवाहमित्यस्या निशाया उदिते क्षये स्वयं सर्वगतः स्फारः स्वालोकः संप्रवर्तते || १४ ||

ayamevāhamityasyā niśāyā udite kṣaye svayaṃ sarvagataḥ sphāraḥ svālokaḥ saṃpravartate || 14 ||

English

When the night of the notion 'I am this' ends, the self-luminous, all-pervading light of the Self manifests.

हिन्दी

जब 'मैं यह हूँ' की धारणा की रात समाप्त होती है, तब स्वयं प्रकाशित, सर्वव्यापी आत्मा का प्रकाश प्रकट होता है।

अयमेवाहमित्यस्मिन्संकोचे विलयं गते अनन्तभुवनव्यापी विस्तार उपजायते || १५ ||

ayamevāhamityasminsaṃkoce vilayaṃ gate anantabhuvanavyāpī vistāra upajāyate || 15 ||

English

When the contraction of the notion 'I am this' dissolves, the infinite, all-pervading expansion manifests.

हिन्दी

जब 'मैं यह हूँ' की धारणा का संकोच विलीन हो जाता है, तब अनंत, सर्वव्यापी विस्तार प्रकट होता है।

जनकेन परित्यक्ता यथाहंकारवासना | तथा त्वमपि सद्बुद्धे विचार्यान्तः परित्यज || १६ ||

janakena parityaktā yathāhaṃkāravāsanā | tathā tvamapi sadbudhhe vicāryāntaḥ parityaj || 16 ||

English

Just as the desire for ego is abandoned by the wise, so too, O wise one, abandon it after careful consideration.

हिन्दी

जैसे अहंकार की वासना को ज्ञानी परित्याग करते हैं, वैसे ही हे ज्ञानी, तुम भी सोच-समझकर उसे परित्याग करो।

अहंकाराम्बुदे क्षीणे चिद्व्योम्नि विमले तते | नूनं संप्रौढतामेति स्वालोको भास्करः परः || १७ ||

ahaṃkārāmbude kṣīṇe cidvyomni vimale tate | nūnaṃ saṃprauḍhatāmeti svāloko bhāskaraḥ paraḥ || 17 ||

English

When the cloud of ego is dissipated, the pure sky of consciousness shines brightly, and the supreme sun of one's own world attains fullness.

हिन्दी

जब अहंकार का बादल विलुप्त हो जाता है, तो चेतना का निर्मल आकाश चमक उठता है, और अपने संसार का परम सूर्य पूर्णता को प्राप्त होता है।

एतावदेवातितमो यदहंभावभावनम् | तस्मिंश्च शममानीते प्रकाश उपजायते || १८ ||

etāvadevātitamo yadahaṃbhāvabhāvanam | tasmīṃśca śamamānīte prakāśa upajāyate || 18 ||

English

This much alone is the great darkness: the contemplation of the sense of 'I'. When that is brought to rest, illumination arises.

हिन्दी

यही महान अंधकार है: 'मैं' की भावना का चिंतन। जब वह शांत हो जाता है, तब प्रकाश उत्पन्न होता है।

19

नाहमस्ति न चान्योस्ति नच नास्तीति भावितम् | मनः प्रशान्तिमायातं नोपादेयेषु मज्जति || १९ ||

nāhamasti na cānyosti naca nāstīti bhāvitam | manaḥ praśāntimāyātaṃ nopādeyeṣu majjati || 19 ||

English

The thought 'I am not, nor is there another, nor is there non-existence' leads the mind to tranquility, and it does not get immersed in what is to be acquired.

हिन्दी

'मैं नहीं हूँ, न ही कोई और है, न ही अस्तित्व नहीं है' यह विचार मन को शांति की ओर ले जाता है, और वह प्राप्त करने वाले में नहीं डूबता।

उपादेयानुपतनं हेयैकान्तविवर्जनम् | यदेतन्मनसो राम तद्बन्धं विद्धि नेतरत् || २० ||

upādeyānupatanam heyaikāntavivarjanam | yadetanmanaso rāma tadbandhaṃ viddhi netarat || 20 ||

English

The falling into what is to be acquired and the complete abandonment of what is to be abandoned, O Rama, know that to be the bondage of the mind, and not otherwise.

हिन्दी

प्राप्त करने वाले में गिरना और त्यागने योग्य को पूर्णतः त्याग देना, हे राम, यह मन का बंधन है, और कुछ नहीं।

मा खेदं भज हेयेषु नोपादेयपरो भव | हेयादेयदृशौ त्यक्त्वा शेषस्थः स्वच्छतां व्रज || २१ ||

mā khedaṃ bhaja heyēṣu nōpādēyaparō bhava | hēyādēyadṛśau tyaktvā śēṣasthaḥ svacchatāṃ vraja || 21 ||

English

Do not be distressed by what is to be abandoned, do not be attached to what is to be accepted. Abandoning the view of what is to be abandoned and what is to be accepted, remain in the pure state.

हिन्दी

जो त्यागना है उसमें खेद न करें, जो ग्रहण करना है उसमें आसक्त न हों। त्यागने और ग्रहण करने की दृष्टि को छोड़कर शेष में शुद्धता में रहें।

येषामिदमुपादेयमिदं हेयमिति स्थितिः | विलीना ते न वाञ्छन्ति त त्यजन्तीह किंचन || २२ ||

yēṣāmidamupādēyamidaṃ hēyamiti sthitiḥ | vilīnā tē na vāñchanti ta tyajantīha kiñcana || 22 ||

English

Those who have the understanding of what is to be accepted and what is to be abandoned, they do not desire anything. They renounce everything here.

हिन्दी

जिनके पास जो ग्रहण करना है और जो त्यागना है उसकी समझ है, वे कुछ भी नहीं चाहते। वे यहाँ सब कुछ त्याग देते हैं।

हेयोपादेयकलने क्षीणे यावन्न चेतसः | न तावत्समता भातिसाभ्रे व्योम्नीवचन्द्रिका || २३ ||

hēyōpādēyakalanē kṣīṇē yāvanna cētasaḥ | na tāvatsamatā bhātisābhrē vyōmnīvacandrikā || 23 ||

English

As long as the mind is engaged in the calculation of what is to be abandoned and what is to be accepted, equanimity does not shine like the moon in a cloudy sky.

हिन्दी

जब तक मन त्यागने और ग्रहण करने के हिसाब में लगा है, तब तक समता बादलों से ढके आकाश में चंद्रमा की तरह नहीं चमकती।

अवस्त्विदमिदं वस्तु यस्येति लुलितं मनः | तस्मिन्नोदेति समता शाखोट इव मञ्जरी || २४ ||

avastvidaṃidaṃ vastu yasyēti lulitaṃ manaḥ | tasminnodēti samatā śākhōṭa iva mañjarī || 24 ||

English

When the mind is not swayed by the thought 'this is a substance, this is not a substance,' equanimity arises in that state like a flower on a branch.

हिन्दी

जब मन इस विचार से नहीं डोलता कि 'यह पदार्थ है, यह पदार्थ नहीं है,' तब समता उस अवस्था में डाली पर फूल की तरह उभरती है।

युक्तायुक्तैषणा यत्र लाभालाभविलासिनी | समता स्वच्छता तत्र कुतो वैराग्यभासिनी || २५ ||

yuktāyuktaiṣaṇā yatra lābhālābhavilāsinī | samatā svacchatā tatra kuto vairāgyabhāsinī || 25 ||

English

Where there is a desire for what is appropriate and inappropriate, and a play of gain and loss, how can there be equanimity, purity, and the radiance of dispassion?

जहाँ उचित और अनुचित की इच्छा है, और लाभ और हानि का खेल है, वहाँ समता, शुद्धता और वैराग्य की चमक कैसे हो सकती है?

एकस्मिन्ब्रह्मतत्त्वेऽस्मिन्विद्यमाने निरामये | नानाऽनानातया नित्यं किमयुक्तं क्व युक्तता ॥ || २६ ||

ekasminbrahmatattve'sminvidyamāne nirāmaye | nānā'nānātayā nityaṃ kimayuktaṃ kva yuktatā || 26 ||

English

In the one, flawless Brahman, which is present, what is the logic of diversity? Where is the appropriateness?

हिन्दी

एक निर्दोष ब्रह्म में, जो विद्यमान है, विविधता का क्या तर्क है? उचितता कहाँ है?

ईप्सितानीप्सिताशङ्के मर्कट्यौ चित्तपादपे | चञ्चले स्फुरतो यस्मिन्कुतस्तस्येह सौम्यता ॥ || २७ ||

īpsitānīpsitāśaṅke markaṭyau cittapādape | cañcale sphurato yasmin kutastasyeha saumyatā || 27 ||

English

In the monkey-like, restless mind, which is full of desires and fears, how can there be gentleness?

हिन्दी

बंदर जैसे, चंचल मन में, जो इच्छाओं और भयों से भरा है, कौन सी कोमलता हो सकती है?

निराशता निर्भयता नित्यता समता ज्ञता | निरीहता निष्क्रियता सौम्यता निर्विकल्पता ॥ || २८ ||

nirāśatā nirbhayatā nityatā samatā jñatā | nirīhatā niṣkriyatā saumyatā nirvikalpatā || 28 ||

English

Despair, fearlessness, eternity, equanimity, knowledge, desirelessness, inaction, gentleness, and non-duality.

हिन्दी

निराशा, निडरता, नित्यता, समता, ज्ञान, निरीहता, निष्क्रियता, कोमलता, और अद्वैतता।

धृतिर्मैत्री मतिस्तुष्टिर्मृदुता मृदुभाषिता | हेयोपादेयनिर्मुक्ते ज्ञे तिष्ठन्त्यपवासनम् ॥ || २९ ||

dhṛtirmaitrī matistuṣṭirmṛdutā mṛdubhāṣitā | heyopādeyanirmukte jñe tiṣṭhantyapavāsanam || 29 ||

English

Firmness, friendliness, wisdom, contentment, gentleness, soft speech, and the absence of craving for what is to be accepted or rejected, reside in the wise.

हिन्दी

धैर्य, मैत्री, बुद्धि, संतोष, कोमलता, मधुर भाषण, और ग्रहण या त्याग की इच्छा का अभाव, ज्ञानी में निवास करते हैं।

धावमानमधोभागे चित्तं प्रत्याहरेद्बलात् | प्रत्याहारेण पतितमधो वारीव सेतुना ॥ || ३० ||

dhāvamānamadhobhāge cittaṃ pratyāharedbalāt | pratyāhāreṇa patitamadho vārīva setunā || 30 ||

English

One should forcibly withdraw the mind that is running downwards, just as water is restrained by a dam.

हिन्दी

मन को, जो नीचे की ओर भाग रहा है, बलपूर्वक वापस खींच लेना चाहिए, जैसे पानी को बाँध से रोका जाता है।

बाह्यानर्थानिमांस्त्यक्त्वा तिष्ठन्गच्छन्स्वपन्श्वसन् | सर्वथा सर्वदा सर्वानान्तरांश्च विचारय || ३१ ||

bāhyānarthānimāṃstyaktvā tiṣṭhangacchansvapanśvasan | sarvathā sarvadā sarvānāntarāṃśca vicāraya || 31 ||

English

Abandoning external objects, whether standing, moving, sleeping, or breathing, always and everywhere, contemplate the inner self.

हिन्दी

बाहरी वस्तुओं को त्यागकर, चाहे खड़े हों, चल रहे हों, सो रहे हों या सांस ले रहे हों, हमेशा और हर जगह, अंतरात्मा पर ध्यान करें।

गृहीततृष्णाशफरि वासनाजालमाविलम् | संसारवारिप्रसृतं चिन्तातन्तुभिराततम् || ३२ ||

gṛhītatṛṣṇāśaphari vāsanājālamāvilam | saṃsāravāriprasṛtaṃ cintātantubhirātatam || 32 ||

English

The mind, gripped by desire and covered by the web of habits, is spread out like the waters of the world, entangled in the threads of thoughts.

हिन्दी

मन, इच्छा से ग्रस्त और आदतों के जाल से ढका हुआ, संसार के जल की तरह फैला हुआ है, विचारों के तारों में उलझा हुआ।

अनया तीक्ष्णया तात च्छिन्धि बुद्धिशलाकया | वात्ययेवाम्बुदं काले वहन्त्या वितते पदे || ३३ ||

anayā tīkṣṇayā tāta cchindhi buddhiśalākayā | vātyayevāmbudaṃ kāle vahantyā vitate pade || 33 ||

English

With this sharp intellect, O dear one, cut through the bonds of ignorance, like the wind dispersing clouds in the sky.

हिन्दी

इस तीक्ष्ण बुद्धि से, हे प्रिय, अज्ञान के बंधनों को काट डालो, जैसे हवा आकाश में बादलों को बिखेरती है।

अस्य संसारवृक्षस्य मूलं दोषाङ्कुरास्पदम् | भव्यधीरेण धैर्येण प्रोद्धरोद्धुरया धिया || ३४ ||

asya saṃsāravṛkṣasya mūlaṃ doṣāṅkurāspadam | bhavyadhīreṇa dhairyeṇa proddurodhurayā dhiyā || 34 ||

English

The root of this tree of worldly existence is the seedbed of faults. With firm and noble intellect, uproot it with determination.

हिन्दी

इस संसार वृक्ष की जड़ दोषों का बीजास्पद है। दृढ़ और उत्तम बुद्धि से, इसे दृढ़ता से उखाड़ फेंको।

मनसैव मनश्छित्त्वा कुठारेणेव पादपम् | पदं पावनमासाद्य सद्य एव स्थिरो भव || ३५ ||

manasaiva manaśchittvā kuṭhāreṇeva pādapam | padaṃ pāvanamāsādya sadya eva sthiro bhava || 35 ||

English

With the mind itself, cut down the mind like an axe cuts a tree. Attaining the pure state, become steadfast immediately.

हिन्दी

मन से ही मन को काट डालो, जैसे कुल्हाड़ी से पेड़ काटा जाता है। पवित्र अवस्था प्राप्त करके, तुरंत स्थिर हो जाओ।

मनसैव मनच्छित्त्वा विस्मृत्या चरमं मनः | वर्तमानमपि च्छित्त्वा च्छिन्नसंसारतां व्रज || ३६ ||

manasaiva manacchittvā vismṛtyā caramaṃ manaḥ | vartamānamapi cchittvā cchinnasaṃsāratāṃ vraja || 36 ||

English

By the mind alone, cut off the mind's desires, forgetting the ultimate mind. Even the present mind, having cut off, attain the state of liberation.

हिन्दी

मन के द्वारा ही मन की इच्छाओं को काट दें, अंतिम मन को भूल जाएं। वर्तमान मन को भी काटकर, मुक्ति की अवस्था प्राप्त करें।

मोहो विस्मृत्य संसारं न भूयः परिरोहति | चित्तं विस्मृत्य संसारो न भूयः परिरोहति || ३७ ||

moho vismṛtya saṃsāraṃ na bhūyaḥ parirohati | cittaṃ vismṛtya saṃsāro na bhūyaḥ parirohati || 37 ||

English

Delusion, forgetting the world, does not grow again. The world, forgetting the mind, does not grow again.

हिन्दी

मोह, संसार को भूल जाने पर, फिर से नहीं बढ़ता। संसार, मन को भूल जाने पर, फिर से नहीं बढ़ता।

तिष्ठन्गच्छन्स्वपञ्जाग्रन्निवसन्नुत्पतन्पतन् | असदेवेदमित्यन्तर्निश्चित्यास्थां परित्यज || ३८ ||

tiṣṭhangacchansvapañjāgrannivasannutpatanpatan | asadevedamityantarniścityāsthāṃ parityaja || 38 ||

English

Whether standing, moving, sleeping, awake, dwelling, rising, or falling, firmly resolve within that all this is unreal and give up attachment.

vibhetyeṣāpi vīṇāyāstantṛguṇatanudhvaneḥ| bandhorapi sanidrasya vibhetyvadanadyuteḥ || 115 ||

English

This wisdom also trembles at the subtle sound of the veena's strings, and it trembles at the radiance of the face of even a sleeping bond.

यह बुद्धि वीणा की तारों की सूक्ष्म ध्वनि से भी काँप उठती है, और यह सोए हुए बंधन के चेहरे की चमक से भी काँप उठती है।

असतोऽपि जनादुच्चैर्गीताद्भीता पलायते| स्वेनैव मनसाप्यज्ञा किलैषा विवशीकृता || ११६ ||

asato'pi janāduccairgītādbhītā palāyate| svenaiva manasāpyajñā kila eṣā vivashīkṛtā || 116 ||

English

Even from the unreal, fearing the loud singing of people, she flees. Indeed, by her own mind, though ignorant, she is rendered helpless.

असत्य से भी, लोगों के ऊँचे गाने से डरकर, वह भाग जाती है। वास्तव में, अपने ही मन से, हालाँकि अज्ञानी, वह असहाय बना दी जाती है।

सुखलवविवशा द्विषेव तप्ता हृदयगतेन निजेन चेतसैवविधुरितधिषणा न वेत्ति सत्यं तदपि कथं परिमोहितो मूढैव || ११७ ||

sukhalavavivaśā dviṣeva taptā hṛdayagatena nijena cetasaivavidhuritadhiṣaṇā na vetti satyaṃ tadapi kathaṃ parimohito mudhaiva || 117 ||

English

Helpless due to the desire for pleasure, she is tormented by her own heart's enmity. Even with her own mind, she does not know the truth. How then is she deluded, being foolish indeed.
