Sthiti, Chapter 8स्थिति प्रकरण · सर्ग ८

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच । इति चित्तविलासेन चिरमुत्प्रेक्षितैः प्रियैः । प्रणयैर्भार्गवस्यासीत्तुष्टये सुसमागमः ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | iti cittavilāsena ciramutprekṣitaiḥ priyaiḥ | praṇayairbhārgavasyāsīttuṣṭaye susamāgamaḥ || 1 ||

Vasishtha said: in this way, through the play of his own mind, Bhargava met, with love, the dear ones he had long imagined, and this union made him fully content.

वसिष्ठ बोले कि इस तरह अपने मन के खेल से भार्गव को उन प्रिय लोगों से मिलन हुआ जिनकी उसने बहुत दिन से कल्पना कर रखी थी, और प्रेम से हुए इस मिलन ने उसे पूरा संतोष दिया।

मन्दारमालाकलया विबुधासवमत्तया । तदा तेन तया सार्धं द्वितीयेनामलेन्दुना ॥ २ ॥

mandāramālākalayā vibudhāsavamattayā | tadā tena tayā sārdhaṃ dvitīyenāmalendunā || 2 ||

He himself was like a second spotless moon, and he was together with her - she wore a strand of mandara flowers and was flushed with the wine of the gods.

वह खुद एक दूसरे निर्मल चाँद जैसा था, और वह उसके साथ था, वह मंदार के फूलों की माला पहने थी और देवताओं की शराब से मस्त थी।

विहृतं मत्तहंसासु हेमपङ्कजिनीषु च । तटीष्वमरवाहिन्याः सह चारणकिंनरैः ॥ ३ ॥

vihṛtaṃ mattahaṃsāsu hemapaṅkajinīṣu ca | taṭīṣvamaravāhinyāḥ saha cāraṇakiṃnaraiḥ || 3 ||

They played among ponds of golden lotuses full of drunk swans, and on the banks of the river of the gods, together with the Charanas and Kinnaras.

वे सोने के कमलों वाले उन तालाबों में खेले जहाँ मतवाले हंस थे, और देवताओं की नदी के किनारे, चारणों और किन्नरों के साथ।

पीतमिन्दुदलस्यन्दैर्देवैः सह रसायनम् । पारिजातलताजालनिलयेषु विलासिना ॥ ४ ॥

pītamindudalasyandairdevaiḥ saha rasāyanam | pārijātalatājālanilayeṣu vilāsinā || 4 ||

That playful one drank the nectar flowing in drops from the moon, together with the gods, in the bowers among the thickets of parijata creepers.

उस रसिक ने देवताओं के साथ चाँद से टपकते हुए अमृत को पिया, यह पारिजात की लताओं के झुरमुट वाले कुंजों में हुआ।

चारुचैत्ररथोद्यानलतालोलासुदोलया । चिरं विलसितं व्यग्रैः सह विद्याधरीगणैः ॥ ५ ॥

cārucaitrarathodyānalatālolāsudolayā | ciraṃ vilasitaṃ vyagraiḥ saha vidyādharīgaṇaiḥ || 5 ||

In the beautiful Chaitraratha garden, on a swing that swayed among the creepers, they played for a long time, together with eager groups of Vidyadhari women.

सुंदर चैत्ररथ बगीचे में, लताओं के बीच झूलते हुए झूले पर, वे बहुत देर तक खेलते रहे, यह विद्याधरी स्त्रियों के उत्सुक समूहों के साथ हुआ।

नन्दनोपवनाभोगो मन्दरेणेव वारिधिः । भृशमालोड्यतां नीतः प्रथमैः सह शाम्भवैः ॥ ६ ॥

nandanopavanābhogo mandareṇeva vāridhiḥ | bhṛśamāloḍyatāṃ nītaḥ prathamaiḥ saha śāmbhavaiḥ || 6 ||

The whole of the Nandana grove was stirred up thoroughly, like the ocean churned by Mount Mandara, together with the chief attendants of Shiva.

पूरा नंदन वन ऐसे मथ डाला गया जैसे मंदार पर्वत ने समुद्र को मथ डाला था, यह शिव के प्रमुख गणों के साथ हुआ।

बालहेमलताजालजटालासु नदीषु च । भ्रान्तमुन्मत्तनागेन मैरवीष्वज्जिनीष्विव ॥ ७ ॥

bālahamalatājālajaṭālāsu nadīṣu ca | bhrāntamunmattanāgena mairavīṣvajjinīṣviva || 7 ||

In rivers tangled thick with young golden creepers, in the Mairavi and Ajjini streams, he wandered like a maddened elephant.

सोने जैसी नयी लताओं के जाल से भरी नदियों में, मैरवी और अज्जिनी धाराओं में, वह मतवाले हाथी की तरह भटकता रहा।

कैलासवनकुञ्जेषु तया सह विलासिना । हरेन्दुधवला रात्र्यः क्षिपिता गणगीतिभिः ॥ ८ ॥

kailāsavanakuñjeṣu tayā saha vilāsinā | harendudhavalā rātryaḥ kṣipitā gaṇagītibhiḥ || 8 ||

In the groves of the Kailasa forest, together with her, that playful one passed nights white as Shiva's moon, amid the songs of Shiva's attendants.

कैलास वन के कुंजों में, उसके साथ, वह रसिक शिव के चाँद जैसी सफ़ेद रातें बिताता रहा, यह शिव के गणों के गीतों के बीच हुआ।

गन्धमादनशैलस्य विश्रम्योपरि सानुषु । सा तेन कनकाम्भोजैरापादमभिमण्डिता ॥ ९ ॥

gandhamādanaśailasya viśramyopari sānuṣu | sā tena kanakāmbhojairāpādamabhimaṇḍitā || 9 ||

Resting on the peaks of Mount Gandhamadana, she was adorned by him with golden lotuses from head to foot.

गंधमादन पर्वत की चोटियों पर विश्राम करते हुए, उसने उसे सिर से पैर तक सोने के कमलों से सजाया।

लोकालोकतटान्तेषु विचित्राश्चर्यहारिषु । क्रीडितं कृतहासेन राम तेन तया सह ॥ १० ॥

lokālokataṭānteṣu vicitraāścaryahāriṣu | krīḍitaṃ kṛtahāsena rāma tena tayā saha || 10 ||

O Rama, at the edges of the shores of Lokaloka, rich with strange wonders, he played there, laughing, together with her.

हे राम, लोकालोक के किनारों पर, जो अनोखे अचरजों से भरे थे, वह वहाँ हँसते हुए उसके साथ खेला।

मन्दरान्तरकच्छेषु सार्धं हरिणशावकैः । अवसत्स समाः षष्टिं कल्पितामरमन्दिरे ॥ ११ ॥

mandarāntarakaccheṣu sārdhaṃ hariṇaśāvakaiḥ | avasats samāḥ ṣaṣṭiṃ kalpitāmaramandire || 11 ||

In the river valleys within Mount Mandara, together with young fawns, he lived for sixty years, in a home built like that of the gods.

मंदार पर्वत के भीतर की घाटियों में, हिरनों के बच्चों के साथ, वह साठ साल तक रहा, यह देवताओं जैसे बनाए घर में हुआ।

क्षीरार्णवतटीष्वस्य वनितासहचारिणः । क्षीणं कृतयुगादर्धं श्वेतद्वीपजनैः सह ॥ १२ ॥

kṣīrārṇavataṭīṣvasya vanitāsahacāriṇaḥ | kṣīṇaṃ kṛtayugādardhaṃ śvetadvīpajanaiḥ saha || 12 ||

On the shores of the Ocean of Milk, moving about together with his woman, half of a Krita age passed for him, together with the people of the White Island.

क्षीर सागर के किनारों पर, अपनी स्त्री के साथ घूमते हुए, उसका आधा कृत युग बीत गया, यह श्वेतद्वीप के लोगों के साथ हुआ।

गन्धर्वनगरोद्यानलीलाविरचनैरसौ । स्रष्टानन्तजगत्सृष्टेः कालस्यानुकृतिं गतः ॥ १३ ॥

gandharvanagarodyānalīlāviracanairasau | sraṣṭānanta jagatsṛṣṭeḥ kālasya anukṛtiṃ gataḥ || 13 ||

By building gardens in play, like cities in the sky, he became a creator of endless worlds, and came to look like Time itself.

खेल-खेल में आकाश के नगरों जैसे बगीचे बनाकर, वह अनगिनत जगत का रचनेवाला बन गया, और खुद काल जैसा दिखने लगा।

अथावसदसौ शुक्रः पुरन्दरपुरे पुनः । सुखं चतुर्युगान्यष्टौ हरिणेक्षणया सह ॥ १४ ॥

athāvasadasau śukraḥ purandarapure punaḥ | sukhaṃ caturyugānyaṣṭau hariṇekṣaṇayā saha || 14 ||

Then that Shukra lived again in Indra's city, happily, for eight cycles of the four ages, together with the deer-eyed woman.

फिर वह शुक्र इंद्र की नगरी में फिर से रहा, सुख से, चार युगों वाले आठ चक्रों तक, यह उस हिरनी जैसी आँखों वाली स्त्री के साथ हुआ।

पुण्यक्षयानुसंधानात्ततश्चावनिमण्डले । तयैव सह मानिन्या पपातोपहताकृतिः ॥ १५ ॥

puṇyakṣayānusandhānāttataścāvanimaṇḍale | tayaiva saha māninyā papātopahatākṛtiḥ || 15 ||

Then, when his store of merit ran out, he fell down to the earth, his body broken, together with that same proud woman.

फिर, जब उसका पुण्य समाप्त हो गया, वह धरती पर गिर पड़ा, उसका शरीर टूट गया, यह उसी अभिमानी स्त्री के साथ हुआ।

परालूनसमस्ताङ्गो हृतस्यन्दननन्दनःचिन्तापरवशो ध्वस्तः समितीव हतो भटः ॥ १६ ॥

parālūnasamastāṅgo hṛtasyandananandanaḥcintāparavaśo dhvastaḥ samitīva hato bhaṭaḥ || 16 ||

All his limbs cut away as if by an enemy, his chariot and his joys torn from him, he was helpless with worry, destroyed like a warrior killed in battle.

उसके सारे अंग जैसे किसी शत्रु ने काट डाले हों, उसका रथ और उसके सुख छीन लिए गए, वह चिंता से बेबस हो गया, युद्ध में मारे गए योद्धा की तरह नष्ट हो गया।

पतितस्यावनौ तस्य चिन्तया सह दीर्घयाशरीरं शतधा जातं शिलापातीव निर्झरः ॥ १७ ॥

patitasyāvanau tasya cintayā saha dīrghayāśarīraṃ śatadhā jātaṃ śilāpātīva nirjharaḥ || 17 ||

As he lay fallen on the ground, with his long-drawn anguish, his body broke into a hundred pieces, like a mountain stream shattering as it falls over rock.

जब वह ज़मीन पर गिरा पड़ा था, अपनी लंबी चिंता के साथ, उसका शरीर सौ टुकड़ों में टूट गया, जैसे पहाड़ी झरना चट्टान पर गिरकर बिखर जाता है।

संशीर्णयोर्देहकयोश्चित्तके व्यसनाविलेविचेरतुस्तयोर्व्योम्नि निर्नीडौ विहगौ यथा ॥ १८ ॥

saṃśīrṇayordehakayościttake vyasanāvileviceratustayorvyomni nirnīḍau vihagau yathā || 18 ||

Their two bodies decayed, and with minds clouded by misfortune, the two of them wandered like two nestless birds in the sky.

उनके दोनों शरीर गल गए, और दुर्भाग्य से धुँधले मन के साथ, वे दोनों आकाश में बिना घोंसले के दो पक्षियों की तरह भटकते रहे।

तत्राविविशतुश्चान्द्रं ते चित्ते रश्मिजालकम्प्रालेयतामुपेत्याशु शालितामथ जग्मतुः ॥ १९ ॥

tatrāviviśatuścāndraṃ te citte raśmijālakamprāleyatāmupetyāśu śālitāmatha jagmatuḥ || 19 ||

There, the two of them, as mind alone, entered the web of the moon's rays; quickly they turned into dew, and then they became grains of rice.

वहाँ, वे दोनों, केवल मन के रूप में, चाँद की किरणों के जाल में समा गए; जल्दी ही वे ओस बन गए, और फिर चावल के दाने बन गए।

शालींस्तान्भुक्तवान्पक्वान्दशार्णेषु द्विजोत्तमःस शुक्रः शुक्रतामेत्य तद्भार्यातनयोऽभवत् ॥ २० ॥

śālīṃstānbhuktavānpakvāndaśārṇeṣu dvijottamaḥsa śukraḥ śukratāmetya tadbhāryātanayo'bhavat || 20 ||

A great Brahmin in the Dasharna country ate those cooked grains of rice; and that Shukra, turning into seed, became the son of that Brahmin's wife.

दशार्ण देश के एक श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मण ने वे पके हुए चावल के दाने खाए; और वह शुक्र, वीर्य बनकर, उसी की पत्नी का पुत्र बन गया।

ततो मुनीनां संसर्गात्तपस्युग्रे व्यवस्थितः । अवसन्मेरुगहने मन्वन्तरमनिन्दितः ॥ २१ ॥

tato munīnāṃ saṃsargāttapasyugre vyavasthitaḥ | avasanmerugahane manvantaramaninditaḥ || 21 ||

Then, through the company of sages, he settled into fierce austerity; and, blameless, he lived deep in Mount Meru's forests for a whole Manvantara.

फिर, मुनियों के साथ रहकर, वह कठोर तप में लग गया; और निर्दोष रहते हुए, वह मेरु पर्वत के घने जंगलों में एक पूरे मन्वंतर तक रहा।

तत्र तस्य समुत्पन्नो मृग्याः पुत्रो नराकृतिः । तत्स्नेहेन परं मोहं पुनरप्याययौ क्षणात् ॥ २२ ॥

tatra tasya samutpanno mṛgyāḥ putro narākṛtiḥ | tatsnehena paraṃ mohaṃ punarapyāyayau kṣaṇāt || 22 ||

There, a son was born to him from a doe, in human form; and through love for that son, deep delusion came over him again in a moment.

वहाँ, एक हिरनी से उसे एक पुत्र हुआ, जो मनुष्य के रूप में था; और उस पुत्र के प्रेम से, एक पल में फिर से गहरा मोह उस पर छा गया।

पुत्रस्यास्य धनं मेऽस्तु गुणाश्चायुश्च शाश्वतम् । इत्यनारतचिन्ताभिर्जहौ सत्यामवस्थितिम् ॥ २३ ॥

putrasyāsya dhanaṃ me'stu guṇāścāyuśca śāśvatam | ityanāratacintābhirjahau satyāmavasthitim || 23 ||

Let this son of mine have wealth, and good qualities, and life everlasting - with such endless worrying, he lost his true, steady state.

मेरे इस बेटे को धन मिले, गुण मिलें, और अमर जीवन मिले, ऐसी लगातार चिंताओं से उसने अपनी सच्ची, स्थिर स्थिति खो दी।

धर्मचिन्तापरिभ्रंशात्पुत्रार्थं भोगचिन्तया । क्षीणायुषं तमहरन्मृत्युः सर्प इवानिलम् ॥ २४ ॥

dharmacintāparibhrṃśātputrārthaṃ bhogacintayā | kṣīṇāyuṣaṃ tamaharanmṛtyuḥ sarpa ivānilam || 24 ||

Because his thought had turned away from dharma, worrying instead about pleasure for his son's sake, death carried him off, his lifespan used up, as a snake swallows the wind.

धर्म का विचार छोड़कर, अपने बेटे के सुख की चिंता में पड़कर, मृत्यु उसे ले गई, उसकी उम्र समाप्त हो गई, जैसे साँप हवा को निगल जाता है।

भोगैकचिन्तया सार्धं सममुत्क्रान्तचेतनः । प्राप्य मद्रेशपुत्रत्वमासीन्मद्रमहीपतिः ॥ २५ ॥

bhogaikacintayā sārdhaṃ samamutkrāntacetanaḥ | prāpya madreśaputratvamāsīnmadramahīpatiḥ || 25 ||

With his mind fixed only on pleasure, his life left his body at that very moment; and he was reborn as the son of the king of Madra, and he himself became the king of the Madra land.

उसका मन केवल सुख पर टिका था, उसी पल उसके प्राण निकल गए; और वह मद्र देश के राजा का बेटा बनकर जन्मा, और खुद मद्र देश का राजा बन गया।

मद्रदेशे चिरं कृत्वा राज्यमुत्सन्नशात्रवम् । जरामभ्याजगामात्र हिमाशनिरिवाम्बुजम् ॥ २६ ॥

madradeśe ciraṃ kṛtvā rājyamutsannaśātravam | jarāmabhyājagāmātra himāśanirivāmbujam || 26 ||

After ruling the kingdom in the Madra country for a long time, its enemies all destroyed, he came to old age here, as frost strikes a lotus.

मद्र देश में लंबे समय तक राज्य करने के बाद, जिसमें सारे शत्रु मिटा दिए गए थे, वह यहाँ बुढ़ापे को पहुँचा, जैसे पाला कमल पर पड़ता है।

मद्रराजतनुं चारुं तपोवासनया सह । तत्याज तेन जातोऽसौ तपस्वी तापसात्मजः ॥ २७ ॥

madrarājatanuṃ cāruṃ tapovāsanayā saha | tatyāja tena jāto'sau tapasvī tāpasātmajaḥ || 27 ||

He gave up his fine body as the king of Madra, along with his old leaning toward austerity; and through that, he was born again as an ascetic, the son of an ascetic.

उसने मद्र देश के राजा वाला अपना सुंदर शरीर छोड़ दिया, अपने तप की पुरानी आदत के साथ; और उसी से, वह फिर एक तपस्वी के रूप में जन्मा, एक तपस्वी का बेटा।

समङ्गाया महानद्यास्तटमासाद्य तापसः । तपस्तेपे महाबुद्धिः स राम विगतज्वरः ॥ २८ ॥

samaṅgāyā mahānadyāstataṃ āsādya tāpasaḥ | tapastepe mahābuddhiḥ sa rāma vigatajvaraḥ || 28 ||

Reaching the bank of the great river Samanga, that ascetic, O Rama, a man of great wisdom, performed austerity, his fever gone.

समंगा नाम की बड़ी नदी के किनारे पहुँचकर, वह तपस्वी, हे राम, बड़ी बुद्धि वाला, तप करने लगा, उसका ताप जाता रहा।

विविधजन्मदशां विविधाशयः समनुभूय शरीरपरम्पराः । सुखमतिष्ठदसौ भृगुनन्दनो वरनदीसुतटे दृढवृक्षवत् ॥ २९ ॥

vividhajanmadśāṃ vividhāśayaḥ samanubhūya śarīraparamparāḥ | sukhamatiṣṭhadasau bhṛgunandano varanadīsutate dṛḍhavṛkṣavat || 29 ||

Having lived through many kinds of birth, with many changing states of mind, passing through one body after another, that son of Bhrigu at last stood at ease on the fine bank of that river, steady like a firm tree.

अनेक तरह के जन्मों को, बदलते हुए मन की कई दशाओं के साथ, एक के बाद एक शरीर पाकर जी लेने के बाद, वह भृगु का बेटा आखिर उस नदी के सुंदर किनारे पर सुख से खड़ा हो गया, एक मजबूत पेड़ की तरह स्थिर।
