श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | इति चित्तविलासेन चिरमुत्प्रेक्षितैः प्रियैः | प्रणयैर्भार्गवस्यासीत्तुष्टये सुसमागमः || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | iti cittavilāsena ciramutprekṣitaiḥ priyaiḥ | praṇayairbhārgavasyāsīttuṣṭaye susamāgamaḥ || 1 ||

English

Shri Vasishtha said: Thus, with the delightful play of the mind, with long-cherished beloveds, there was a beautiful union for the pleasure of Bhargava.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: इस प्रकार, मन के विलास से, दीर्घकाल से प्रिय लोगों के साथ, भार्गव के संतोष के लिए एक सुंदर मिलन हुआ।

मन्दारमालाकलया विबुधासवमत्तया | तदा तेन तया सार्धं द्वितीयेनामलेन्दुना || २ ||

mandāramālākalayā vibudhāsavamattayā | tadā tena tayā sārdhaṃ dvitīyenāmalendunā || 2 ||

English

At that time, with the intoxicated goddess of the Mandara garland, along with the second spotless moon, there was a union.

उस समय, मंदार माला की मतवाली देवी के साथ, दूसरे निर्मल चंद्रमा के साथ, एक मिलन हुआ।

विहृतं मत्तहंसासु हेमपङ्कजिनीषु च | तटीष्वमरवाहिन्याः सह चारणकिंनरैः || ३ ||

vihṛtaṃ mattahaṃsāsu hemapaṅkajinīṣu ca | taṭīṣvamaravāhinyāḥ saha cāraṇakiṃnaraiḥ || 3 ||

English

He enjoyed with the intoxicated swans in the golden lotus ponds and on the banks of the celestial rivers, along with the Charanas and Kinnaras.

उसने सोने के कमल तालाबों में और दिव्य नदियों के किनारों पर मतवाले हंसों के साथ, चारणों और किन्नरों के साथ आनंद लिया।

पीतमिन्दुदलस्यन्दैर्देवैः सह रसायनम् | पारिजातलताजालनिलयेषु विलासिना || ४ ||

pītamindudalasyandairdevaiḥ saha rasāyanam | pārijātalatājālanilayeṣu vilāsinā || 4 ||

English

He drank the nectar with the gods, with the drops of the moon's rays, in the abodes of the Parijata vines, with the playful one.

उसने चंद्रमा की किरणों की बूंदों के साथ, देवताओं के साथ, पारिजात लताओं के निवास स्थानों में, खेलने वाले के साथ अमृत पी।

चारुचैत्ररथोद्यानलतालोलासुदोलया | चिरं विलसितं व्यग्रैः सह विद्याधरीगणैः || ५ ||

cārucaitrarathodyānalatālolāsudolayā | ciraṃ vilasitaṃ vyagraiḥ saha vidyādharīgaṇaiḥ || 5 ||

English

In the beautiful Chaitra chariot garden, with the swaying vines, he played for a long time with the eager Vidyadhari women.

सुंदर चैत्र रथ उद्यान में, लहराती लताओं के साथ, उसने उत्सुक विद्याधरी स्त्रियों के साथ देर तक खेला।

नन्दनोपवनाभोगो मन्दरेणेव वारिधिः | भृशमालोड्यतां नीतः प्रथमैः सह शाम्भवैः || ६ ||

nandanopavanābhogo mandareṇeva vāridhiḥ | bhṛśamāloḍyatāṃ nītaḥ prathamaiḥ saha śāmbhavaiḥ || 6 ||

English

The enjoyment of Nandana garden was like the ocean with Mandara mountain, greatly agitated by the first Shambhavas.

नन्दन उद्यान का भोग मानो मन्दराचल से मथित समुद्र के समान था, जो पहले शाम्भवों द्वारा बहुत ही उत्तेजित किया गया था।

बालहेमलताजालजटालासु नदीषु च | भ्रान्तमुन्मत्तनागेन मैरवीष्वज्जिनीष्विव || ७ ||

bālahamalatājālajaṭālāsu nadīṣu ca | bhrāntamunmattanāgena mairavīṣvajjinīṣviva || 7 ||

English

In the rivers adorned with golden creepers and locks of hair, he wandered like a mad elephant in the forests of Mairava.

सुवर्ण लताओं और जटाओं से सजी नदियों में, वह मैरव के वनों में उन्मत्त हाथी की तरह भटकता था।

कैलासवनकुञ्जेषु तया सह विलासिना | हरेन्दुधवला रात्र्यः क्षिपिता गणगीतिभिः || ८ ||

kailāsavanakuñjeṣu tayā saha vilāsinā | harendudhavalā rātryaḥ kṣipitā gaṇagītibhiḥ || 8 ||

English

In the groves of Kailasa forest, with her, the playful one, the moon-white nights were spent with the songs of the Ganas.

कैलास वन के कुंजों में, उसके साथ, खेलने वाली, चाँदनी रातें गणों के गीतों से बिताई गईं।

गन्धमादनशैलस्य विश्रम्योपरि सानुषु | सा तेन कनकाम्भोजैरापादमभिमण्डिता || ९ ||

gandhamādanaśailasya viśramyopari sānuṣu | sā tena kanakāmbhojairāpādamabhimaṇḍitā || 9 ||

English

On the peaks of Gandhamadana mountain, she rested, adorned from head to foot with golden lotuses by him.

हिन्दी

गंधमादन पर्वत की चोटियों पर, वह उसके द्वारा सिर से पैर तक सुवर्ण कमलों से अलंकृत होकर विश्राम करती थी।

लोकालोकतटान्तेषु विचित्राश्चर्यहारिषु | क्रीडितं कृतहासेन राम तेन तया सह || १० ||

lokālokataṭānteṣu vicitraāścaryahāriṣu | krīḍitaṃ kṛtahāsena rāma tena tayā saha || 10 ||

English

On the shores of Lokāloka, in the wondrous and amazing places, he played with her, laughing.

लोकालोक के तटों पर, विचित्र और आश्चर्यजनक स्थानों में, वह उसके साथ हँसता हुआ खेलता था।

मन्दरान्तरकच्छेषु सार्धं हरिणशावकैः | अवसत्स समाः षष्टिं कल्पितामरमन्दिरे || ११ ||

mandarāntarakaccheṣu sārdhaṃ hariṇaśāvakaiḥ | avasats samāḥ ṣaṣṭiṃ kalpitāmaramandire || 11 ||

English

He resided for sixty years in a beautifully constructed divine abode in the inner caves of Mandara, accompanied by young deer.

हिन्दी

वह मन्दरा की गुफाओं में एक सुन्दर बनाये गये दिव्य मन्दिर में छह दशकों तक हरिण शावकों के साथ रहा।

क्षीरार्णवतटीष्वस्य वनितासहचारिणः | क्षीणं कृतयुगादर्धं श्वेतद्वीपजनैः सह || १२ ||

kṣīrārṇavataṭīṣvasya vanitāsahacāriṇaḥ | kṣīṇaṃ kṛtayugādardhaṃ śvetadvīpajanaiḥ saha || 12 ||

English

He, accompanied by the inhabitants of the White Island, spent half of the Krita Yuga on the shores of the ocean of milk with female companions.

हिन्दी

वह, श्वेत द्वीप के निवासियों के साथ, क्षीर सागर के तट पर स्त्री साथियों के साथ कृत युग का आधा समय बिताया।

गन्धर्वनगरोद्यानलीलाविरचनैरसौ | स्रष्टानन्तजगत्सृष्टेः कालस्यानुकृतिं गतः || १३ ||

gandharvanagarodyānalīlāviracanairasau | sraṣṭānanta jagatsṛṣṭeḥ kālasya anukṛtiṃ gataḥ || 13 ||

English

He, the creator of the endless universe, engaged in the playful activities in the gardens of the Gandharva city, experiencing the imitation of time.

हिन्दी

वह, अनन्त ब्रह्माण्ड का सृष्टिकर्ता, गन्धर्व नगर के उद्यानों में खेल-खेल में लगा था, समय की नकल का अनुभव कर रहा था।

अथावसदसौ शुक्रः पुरन्दरपुरे पुनः | सुखं चतुर्युगान्यष्टौ हरिणेक्षणया सह || १४ ||

athāvasadasau śukraḥ purandarapure punaḥ | sukhaṃ caturyugānyaṣṭau hariṇekṣaṇayā saha || 14 ||

English

Then, Shukra resided again in the city of Indra, enjoying eight sets of four yugas with the doe-eyed one.

तब, शुक्र ने फिर से इन्द्र के नगर में रहना शुरू किया, मृगनयनी के साथ आठ चरणों के चार युगों का आनंद लेते हुए।

पुण्यक्षयानुसंधानात्ततश्चावनिमण्डले | तयैव सह मानिन्या पपातोपहताकृतिः || १५ ||

puṇyakṣayānusandhānāttataścāvanimaṇḍale | tayaiva saha māninyā papātopahatākṛtiḥ || 15 ||

English

Due to the exhaustion of merit, he then fell to the earthly realm with the proud one, his form distressed.

हिन्दी

पुण्य के क्षय के कारण, वह फिर धरती पर गिरा, अभिमानी के साथ, उसका रूप व्यथित।

परालूनसमस्ताङ्गो हृतस्यन्दननन्दनःचिन्तापरवशो ध्वस्तः समितीव हतो भटः || १६ ||

parālūnasamastāṅgo hṛtasyandananandanaḥcintāparavaśo dhvastaḥ samitīva hato bhaṭaḥ || 16 ||

English

His entire body was covered in dust, and Arjuna, the joy of the Pandavas, was overwhelmed by worry and destroyed, as if a warrior had been slain in battle.

हिन्दी

उसका सारा शरीर धूल से ढका हुआ था, और पांडवों के आनंद अर्जुन चिंता से व्याकुल होकर नष्ट हो गए, मानो कोई योद्धा युद्ध में मारा गया हो।

पतितस्यावनौ तस्य चिन्तया सह दीर्घयाशरीरं शतधा जातं शिलापातीव निर्झरः || १७ ||

patitasyāvanau tasya cintayā saha dīrghayāśarīraṃ śatadhā jātaṃ śilāpātīva nirjharaḥ || 17 ||

English

His body, fallen on the battlefield, was shattered into a hundred pieces by the long-lasting worry, like a waterfall broken by a rock.

हिन्दी

उसका शरीर, युद्धक्षेत्र में गिरा हुआ, लंबे समय तक चली चिंता से सौ टुकड़ों में टूट गया, मानो किसी पत्थर से टूटा हुआ झरना।

संशीर्णयोर्देहकयोश्चित्तके व्यसनाविलेविचेरतुस्तयोर्व्योम्नि निर्नीडौ विहगौ यथा || १८ ||

saṃśīrṇayordehakayościttake vyasanāvileviceratustayorvyomni nirnīḍau vihagau yathā || 18 ||

English

Their shattered bodies and minds were filled with misery, and they wandered in the sky like birds without a nest.

उनके टूटे हुए शरीर और मन दुःख से भरे हुए थे, और वे घूमते रहे आकाश में मानो बिना घोंसले के पक्षी।

तत्राविविशतुश्चान्द्रं ते चित्ते रश्मिजालकम्प्रालेयतामुपेत्याशु शालितामथ जग्मतुः || १९ ||

tatrāviviśatuścāndraṃ te citte raśmijālakamprāleyatāmupetyāśu śālitāmatha jagmatuḥ || 19 ||

English

There, their minds entered the moon's ray of light, and quickly attaining peace, they departed.

वहाँ, उनके मन चंद्रमा की किरण के प्रकाश में प्रवेश कर गए, और शीघ्र ही शांति प्राप्त करके वे चले गए।

शालींस्तान्भुक्तवान्पक्वान्दशार्णेषु द्विजोत्तमःस शुक्रः शुक्रतामेत्य तद्भार्यातनयोऽभवत् || २० ||

śālīṃstānbhuktavānpakvāndaśārṇeṣu dvijottamaḥsa śukraḥ śukratāmetya tadbhāryātanayo'bhavat || 20 ||

English

The best among the twice-born, Shukra, having eaten the ripe grains in the ten Arnas, attained purity and became the son of that wife.

द्विजोत्तम शुक्र ने दस अर्णों में पके हुए अनाज खाकर, शुद्धता प्राप्त की और उस पत्नी का पुत्र बन गया।

ततो मुनीनां संसर्गात्तपस्युग्रे व्यवस्थितः | अवसन्मेरुगहने मन्वन्तरमनिन्दितः || २१ ||

tato munīnāṃ saṃsargāttapasyugre vyavasthitaḥ | avasanmerugahane manvantaramaninditaḥ || 21 ||

English

Then, due to the association with the sages, he became established in severe austerities. He lived in the dense forest of Meru, blameless during the Manvantara.

तब, मुनियों के संग से, उसने कठोर तपस्या में स्थिर हो गया। वह मेरु के घने वन में रहता था, मन्वन्तर के दौरान निर्दोष रहता था।

तत्र तस्य समुत्पन्नो मृग्याः पुत्रो नराकृतिः | तत्स्नेहेन परं मोहं पुनरप्याययौ क्षणात् || २२ ||

tatra tasya samutpanno mṛgyāḥ putro narākṛtiḥ | tatsnehena paraṃ mohaṃ punarapyāyayau kṣaṇāt || 22 ||

English

There, a son was born to him in the form of a deer. Due to his affection, he again fell into great delusion in an instant.

वहाँ, उसके एक पुत्र का जन्म हुआ, जो हिरण के रूप में था। उसके स्नेह के कारण, वह फिर से एक क्षण में ही बड़े मोह में डूब गया।

पुत्रस्यास्य धनं मेऽस्तु गुणाश्चायुश्च शाश्वतम् | इत्यनारतचिन्ताभिर्जहौ सत्यामवस्थितिम् || २३ ||

putrasyāsya dhanaṃ me'stu guṇāścāyuśca śāśvatam | ityanāratacintābhirjahau satyāmavasthitim || 23 ||

English

May this son of mine have wealth, virtues, and eternal life. With these unceasing thoughts, he abandoned the truthful state.

हिन्दी

मेरे इस पुत्र के पास धन, गुण और अनन्त आयु हो। इन अनवरत विचारों से, उसने सत्य की स्थिति को छोड़ दिया।

धर्मचिन्तापरिभ्रंशात्पुत्रार्थं भोगचिन्तया | क्षीणायुषं तमहरन्मृत्युः सर्प इवानिलम् || २४ ||

dharmacintāparibhrṃśātputrārthaṃ bhogacintayā | kṣīṇāyuṣaṃ tamaharanmṛtyuḥ sarpa ivānilam || 24 ||

English

Due to the decline of thoughts of righteousness and the desire for enjoyment for the sake of his son, death took him away like a snake takes away the wind, his life diminished.

हिन्दी

धर्म की चिन्ता के परित्याग और पुत्र के लिए भोग की इच्छा के कारण, मृत्यु ने उसे एक साँप की तरह हवा को ले जाने की तरह ले लिया, उसकी आयु कम हो गई।

भोगैकचिन्तया सार्धं सममुत्क्रान्तचेतनः | प्राप्य मद्रेशपुत्रत्वमासीन्मद्रमहीपतिः || २५ ||

bhogaikacintayā sārdhaṃ samamutkrāntacetanaḥ | prāpya madreśaputratvamāsīnmadramahīpatiḥ || 25 ||

English

With the sole thought of enjoyment, he died with a distracted mind. Having attained the status of the son of the king of Madra, he became the lord of Madra.

हिन्दी

भोग की एकमात्र चिन्ता से, उसका मन विचलित हो गया और उसने प्राण त्याग दिए। मद्र के राजा के पुत्र की स्थिति प्राप्त करने के बाद, वह मद्र का राजा बन गया।

मद्रदेशे चिरं कृत्वा राज्यमुत्सन्नशात्रवम् | जरामभ्याजगामात्र हिमाशनिरिवाम्बुजम् || २६ ||

madradeśe ciraṃ kṛtvā rājyamutsannaśātravam | jarāmabhyājagāmātra himāśanirivāmbujam || 26 ||

English

After ruling the Madra kingdom for a long time and defeating his enemies, he approached old age like a lotus touched by frost.

हिन्दी

मद्र देश में लंबे समय तक राज्य करके और शत्रुओं को नष्ट करके, उसने ठंड से छूए कमल की तरह बुढ़ापा प्राप्त किया।

मद्रराजतनुं चारुं तपोवासनया सह | तत्याज तेन जातोऽसौ तपस्वी तापसात्मजः || २७ ||

madrarājatanuṃ cāruṃ tapovāsanayā saha | tatyāja tena jāto'sau tapasvī tāpasātmajaḥ || 27 ||

English

Leaving behind his beautiful body of the Madra king, along with his ascetic garments, he became an ascetic, the son of a sage.

हिन्दी

मद्र राजा के सुंदर शरीर को और तपस्वी वस्त्रों को छोड़कर, वह एक तपस्वी बन गया, एक ऋषि का पुत्र।

समङ्गाया महानद्यास्तटमासाद्य तापसः | तपस्तेपे महाबुद्धिः स राम विगतज्वरः || २८ ||

samaṅgāyā mahānadyāstataṃ āsādya tāpasaḥ | tapastepe mahābuddhiḥ sa rāma vigatajvaraḥ || 28 ||

English

Reaching the bank of the great river Samaṅgā, that wise ascetic performed penance, free from distress, O Rama.

हिन्दी

महान नदी समंगा के तट पर पहुंचकर, वह बुद्धिमान तपस्वी तपस्या करता है, चिंता से मुक्त, हे राम।

विविधजन्मदशां विविधाशयः समनुभूय शरीरपरम्पराः | सुखमतिष्ठदसौ भृगुनन्दनो वरनदीसुतटे दृढवृक्षवत् || २९ ||

vividhajanmadśāṃ vividhāśayaḥ samanubhūya śarīraparamparāḥ | sukhamatiṣṭhadasau bhṛgunandano varanadīsutate dṛḍhavṛkṣavat || 29 ||

English

Having experienced various births and desires, that son of Bhrigu, free from bodily attachments, rested happily on the bank of the excellent river, like a firm tree.

हिन्दी

विविध जन्मों और इच्छाओं का अनुभव करके, वह भृगु का पुत्र, शरीर की आसक्तियों से मुक्त, उत्तम नदी के तट पर एक दृढ़ वृक्ष की तरह सुखपूर्वक विराजमान था।
