श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच । इत्युक्त्वा भगवान्देवांस्तत्रैवान्तर्धिमाययौ । वेलावनितटे शब्दं कृत्वेवाम्बुतरङ्गकः ॥ || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | ityuktvā bhagavāndevāṃstatraivāntardhimāyayau | velāvanitaṭe śabdaṃ kṛtvevāmbutaraṅgakaḥ || 1 ||

English

Shri Vasishtha said: Having said this, the Lord disappeared right there. He made a sound at the shore of the ocean like the waves of water.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: ऐसा कहकर, भगवान् वहीं अन्तर्धान हो गए। उन्होंने समुद्र के तट पर पानी की लहरों की तरह शब्द किया।

सुरास्त्वाकर्ण्य तद्वाक्यं जग्मुः स्वाभिमतां दिशम् । कमलामोदमादाय वनमालामिवानिलाः ॥ || २ ||

surāstvākarṇya tadvākyaṃ jagmuḥ svābhimatāṃ diśaṃ | kamalāmodamādāya vanamālāmivānilāḥ || 2 ||

English

The gods, having heard that speech, went in their desired direction, taking the fragrance of the lotus like the wind carrying the garland of the forest.

हिन्दी

देवताओं ने उस वाणी को सुनकर, अपनी इच्छित दिशा में चले गए, कमल की सुगंध लेकर, जैसे हवा वन की माला लेकर जाती है।

दिनानि कतिचित्स्वेषु कान्तेषु स्थिरकान्तिषु । द्विरेफा इव पद्मेषु मन्दिरेषु विशश्रमुः ॥ || ३ ||

dināni katicitsveṣu kānteṣu sthirakāntiṣu | dvirephā iva padmeṣu mandireṣu viśaśramuḥ || 3 ||

English

For some days, they rested in their beautiful and stable abodes, like bees in lotuses.

English

After attaining a certain auspicious time that brings self-elevation, they made a sound like the roar of the clouds of dissolution.

English

Then, with the demons situated in the sky and the underworld, a terrible battle that caused the passage of time began again.

vavurasiśarśaktimudgaraūghā musalagadāparaśūgracakraśaṅkhāḥ aśanigiriśilāhutāśavṛkṣā ahigaruḍādimukhāni cāyudhāni || 6 ||

English

Armed with swords, spears, maces, clubs, ploughs, discs, conches, thunderbolts, mountains, stones, fire, and trees, and with serpents, eagles, and other creatures as weapons.

English

The mighty river, created by illusion, swiftly flowed in all directions, filled with rocks, mountains, trees, and turbulent waters, making a tremendous noise.

माया से बनी यह महान नदी तेजी से सब दिशाओं में बही, जिसमें पत्थर, पर्वत, वृक्ष और उथल-पुथल पानी से भरी थी, और इसने एक विशाल शोर पैदा किया।

English

In the middle of the flow, there were weapons like clubs, spears, mountains, axes, arrows, and maces, along with water resembling the Ganges, filling the celestial mansion, and in all directions, there was a downpour of thunderbolts.

प्रवाह के मध्य में, मुद्गर, शूल, पर्वत, फरसे, तीर, और गदा जैसे हथियार थे, साथ ही गंगा जैसा पानी दिव्य भवन को भरता था, और सभी दिशाओं में वज्र की वर्षा हो रही थी।

pṛthvyādidaaruṇaśarīramapi prahāradānagrahā gahanarāśiśarīrakeva māyopaśāmyati surāsurasiddhasannā māyākṛtiḥ punarudeti na caiva saiva || 9 ||

English

Even the fierce body made of earth and other elements, when struck, appears like a dense mass and calms down due to illusion. The illusory form, surrounded by gods, demons, and sages, reappears but is not the same.

पृथ्वी और अन्य तत्वों से बना भयंकर शरीर, जब प्रहार किया जाता है, तो घने पिंड की तरह दिखाई देता है और माया के कारण शांत हो जाता है। देवताओं, असुरों और ऋषियों से घिरी मायावी आकृति फिर से प्रकट होती है, लेकिन वह वही नहीं होती।

śailopamāyudhavighaṭṭitabhūdharāṇi raktāmbupūraparipūrṇamahārṇavāni | daivāsurendraśavaśailavirūḍhakuntatālīvanāni kakubhāṃ vadanāni cāsan || 10 ||

English

The mountains, shattered by weapons resembling rocks, and the great oceans filled with blood-red water, appeared like the faces of the directions, adorned with the forests of Kuntala trees growing on the mountains conquered by the gods and demons.

पत्थरों के समान हथियारों से विध्वंस हुए पर्वत और रक्तिम जल से भरे हुए महान समुद्र, देवताओं और असुरों द्वारा जीते गए पर्वतों पर उगे कुन्तल वृक्षों के वनों से सुशोभित दिशाओं के मुख के समान प्रतीत हुए।

udgīrṇakuntaśaraśaktigadāsicakrahelānigīrṇasuradānavamuktashailā | kāṣollasatkrakacadantanakhāgramālā jīvānvitā hyapatadāyasasiṃhasṛṣṭiḥ || 11 ||

English

The arrows, spears, maces, swords, discs, and other weapons thrown by the gods and demons, along with the mountains, fell down, adorned with the shining hair, teeth, and nails of the slain warriors, resembling the creation of iron lions.

देवताओं और असुरों द्वारा फेंके गए तीर, भाले, गदाएँ, तलवारें, चक्र और अन्य हथियार, मारे गए योद्धाओं के चमकीले बाल, दाँत और नाखूनों से सुशोभित, लोहे के सिंहों की सृष्टि के समान, पर्वतों के साथ गिर पड़े।

English

The army of the lord of the end of the eon, with blazing eyes and poisonous flames, burned the directions and appeared like a row of poison-bearing serpents rising from the great mountains submerged in the ocean.

युगान्त के स्वामी की सेना, जिसकी आँखें चमक रही थीं और विषैले ज्वालामुखी से जल रही थी, दिशाओं को जला रही थी और समुद्र में डूबे हुए महान पर्वतों से उठती हुई विषैली सर्पों की पंक्ति के समान दिखाई दे रही थी।

English

The entire world became extremely distressed, with the roaring thunderbolts and the harsh sounds of the ocean waves crashing against the mountains. The world was enveloped in various streams of weapons and rivers.

पूरा संसार अत्यंत व्याकुल हो गया, गर्जन वज्र और समुद्र की लहरों की कर्कश ध्वनियों से पर्वतों पर टकरा रहा था। संसार विभिन्न हथियारों और नदियों की धाराओं से घिरा हुआ था।

शैलास्त्रशस्त्रगरुडाचलचालितोच्चनागं महासुरगणाङ्गणमन्तरिक्षम् | आसीत्क्षणं जलधिभिः क्षणमग्निपूरैः पूर्णं क्षणं दिनकरैः क्षणमन्धकारैः || १४ ||

śailāstraśastragaruḍācalacālitoccana nāgaṃ mahāsuragaṇāṅgaṇamantarikṣam | āsītkṣaṇaṃ jaladhibhiḥ kṣaṇamagnipūraiḥ pūrṇaṃ kṣaṇaṃ dinakaraiḥ kṣaṇamandhakāraiḥ || 14 ||

English

The sky, filled with the great serpents shaken by the mountains, weapons, and Garuda, was momentarily filled with oceans, then with fireballs, then with suns, and then with darkness.

In the unbearable age of destruction, the world became a blazing inferno between the abodes of the gods and the earth, filled with the roaring and crackling sounds of fire-spewing mountains.

English

The gods and demons, with their bodies adorned with towering weapon-trees, were engulfed in the great fire. They reached the sky, which was agitated by the winds of destruction and adorned with the beauty of swaying mountains.

English

The sky around the mountain was filled with the flowing blood of the gods, demons, and the king of mountains, resembling the Ganges with its waters reddened by the setting sun.

There was a downpour of mountains, water, various fierce weapons, irregular thunderbolts, and mutual fire showers.

अनयन्नयमार्गकोविदा दलिताशेषगिरीन्द्रभित्तयः | ससृजुश्च समं समन्ततः करिकुम्भेष्विव पुण्यवर्षणम् || २० ||

anayannayamārgakovidā dalitāśeṣagirīndrabhittayaḥ | sasṛjuśca samaṃ samantataḥ karikumbheṣviva puṇyavarṣaṇam || 20 ||

English

The warriors, skilled in various battle tactics, shattered the peaks of all mountains and poured down blessings like elephants spraying water from their trunks.

English

The gods and demons, confused in the chaos of battle, with their weapons and hands entangled in each other's bodies, wandered in the sky, their glory scattered by the massive elephants and their seats.

At that time, the sky was filled with severed heads, arms, and thighs, whirling like insects in the air, making the world seem like a terrifying abyss, with clouds obscuring the sun and the directions.

The earth became torn and shattered by the falling warriors, who were struck by each other's blows and the clashing of weapons, making a loud noise.

English

The battlefield resounded with the clashing of weapons, rocks, mountains, and trees, as if it were the end of the world, with terrifying roars and the sky splitting open.

English

The fierce wind, agitated water, fire, sun, and moon, the long battle between gods and demons, and the terrifying end of the universe with broken corners of the cosmic egg.

English

The directions were filled with confused, roaring mountains, struck by weapons equal to their size, crying out in pain like fierce winds, and howling like fallen lions.

English

With the illusion of rivers, oceans, battles, dense fires, trees, corpses of gods and demons, immovable stones, confused arrows, sharp weapons, maces, swords, and winds scattering forest leaves inside.
