श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच | अथ वर्षसहस्रेण दिव्येन परमेश्वरः | भृगुः परमसंबोधाद्विरराम समाधितः || १ ||

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | atha varṣasahasreṇa divyena parameśvaraḥ | bhṛguḥ paramasaṃbodhād virarāma samādhitaḥ || 1 ||

English

Sri Vasistha said: Then, after a thousand divine years, the supreme Lord Bhrugu, having attained the highest realization, ceased from his meditation.

हिन्दी

श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: फिर, एक हजार दिव्य वर्षों के बाद, परमेश्वर भृगु, जिन्होंने परम संबोध प्राप्त किया था, समाधि से उठे।

नापश्यदग्रे तनयं विनयावनताननम् | सामन्तं गुणसेनायाः पुण्यं मूर्तमिव स्थितम् || २ ||

nāpaśyad agre tanayaṃ vinayāvanatānanam | sāmantaṃ guṇasenāyāḥ puṇyaṃ mūrtam iva sthitam || 2 ||

English

He did not see his son, who was humbly bowing before him, like a virtuous embodiment of the army of good qualities, standing in front of him.

apaśyat kevalaṃ kāyakaṅkālaṃ purato mahat | dehayuktam ivābhāgyaṃ dāridryam iva mūrtimat || 3 ||

English

He saw only a large skeletal body in front of him, as if it were a fortunate embodiment of the body, but it appeared like a personification of poverty.

tāpaśuṣkavapuḥ kṛttir andhrasphuritatittiri | saṃśuṣkāntrōdaraguhāchāyāviśrāntadarduram || 4 ||

English

He saw a dried-up body, withered and cracked, with holes and flickering like a partridge. The shadows rested in the dried-up cavities of the stomach and intestines, like a lizard.

उन्होंने एक सूखा हुआ, झुरझुरा और फटा हुआ शरीर देखा, जिसमें छेद और तीतर की तरह कंपन था। सूखे हुए पेट और आंतों की गुफाओं में छाया ठहरी हुई थी, जैसे छिपकली।

English

He saw the body infested with newly born insects in the cavities of the eyes, and with worms crawling like a weaver's shuttle in a cage of ribs.

English

The old house, which was enjoyed in the past, gives fruits that are both desired and undesired. It is like a stream that has been washed away, and it is extremely dry and full of bones.

पुराना घर, जिसे पहले आनंद लिया गया था, इच्छित और अनिच्छित फल देता है। यह एक धोया हुआ धारा की तरह है, और यह अत्यंत सूखा और हड्डियों से भरा हुआ है।

शिरोघटेन शुभ्रेण मसृणेन्दुवर्चसाविडम्बयच्च कर्पूराप्लुतलिङ्गशिरःश्रियम् || ७ ||

śiroghaṭena śubhreṇa masṛṇenenduvarcasāviḍambayacca karpūrāplutaliṅgaśiraḥśriyam || 7 ||

English

With a white, smooth, moon-like radiant skull-pot, it mocks and is adorned with the glory of a lingam covered with camphor.

एक सफेद, चिकने, चाँद-जैसी चमक वाले खोपड़ी-घड़े के साथ, यह मजाक उड़ाता है और कपूर से ढके लिंग की शोभा से सजा हुआ है।

ऋज्व्या संशुष्कशिरया स्वास्थिमात्रावशेषयाग्रीवयात्मानुसृतया दीर्घीकुर्वदिवाकृतिम् || ८ ||

ṛjvyā saṃśuṣkaśirayā svāsthimātrāvaśeṣayāgrīvayātmānusṛtayā dīrghīkurvadivākṛtim || 8 ||

English

With a straight, dried-up head, only bones remaining, following the self, making the form long like a day.

एक सीधी, सूखी सिर के साथ, केवल हड्डियाँ बची हैं, आत्मा का अनुसरण करते हुए, दिन की तरह लंबी आकृति बनाते हुए।

मृणालिकापाण्डुरया धारावभृतमांसयानासाग्रास्थिकया वक्त्रे कृतसीमाकृतिं दधत् || ९ ||

mṛṇālikāpāṇḍurayā dhārāvabhṛtamāṃsayānāsāgrāsthikayā vaktre kṛtasīmākṛtiṃ dadhat || 9 ||

English

With a pale, lotus-like face, carrying the burden of the stream, with the tip of the nose as bone, it has a defined form in the mouth.

हिन्दी

एक उज्ज्वल, कमल-जैसे चेहरे के साथ, धारा का बोझ लेते हुए, नाक के अग्रभाग को हड्डी के रूप में, मुँह में एक परिभाषित आकृति है।

दीर्घकन्धरया नूनमुन्नतीकृतवक्त्रयाप्रेक्षमाणमिव प्राणानुत्क्रान्तानम्बरोदरे || १० ||

dīrghakandharayā nūnamunnatīkṛtavaktrayāprekṣamāṇamiva prāṇānutkrāntānambarodare || 10 ||

English

With a long neck and a raised face, it seems to be looking, with the life breath having left the hollow of the stomach.

एक लंबी गर्दन और उठी हुई चेहरे के साथ, यह देखता प्रतीत होता है, जीवन श्वास पेट के खोखले में छोड़कर चली गई है।

जङ्घोरुजानुदोर्दण्डैर्द्विगुणां दीर्घतां गतैः | प्रतिष्ठानमिवाशान्तं दीर्घाध्वश्रमभीतितः || ११ ||

jaṅghorujānudordaṇḍairdviguṇāṃ dīrghatāṃ gataiḥ | pratiṣṭhānamivāśāntaṃ dīrghādhvaśramabhītitaḥ || 11 ||

English

With legs, thighs, knees, and arms twice as long, standing still as if in a stable position, out of fear of the fatigue of a long journey.

हिन्दी

जंघा, जांघ, घुटने और हाथों की लंबाई दोगुनी हो गई है, लंबे सफर की थकान से डरकर स्थिर खड़ा है।

उदरेणातिरिक्तेन चर्मशेषेण शोषिणा | प्रदर्शयदिवाज्ञस्य हृदयस्यातिशून्यताम् || १२ ||

udareṇātiriktena carmaśeṣeṇa śoṣiṇā | pradarśayadivājñasya hṛdayasyātiśūnyatām || 12 ||

English

With an excessively large belly and dried skin, it seemed to reveal the extreme emptiness of the ignorant heart.

अतिरिक्त पेट और सूखी त्वचा के साथ, यह अज्ञानी हृदय की अतिशय शून्यता को प्रदर्शित कर रहा था।

प्रेक्ष्य तच्छुष्ककङ्कालमालानं दुःखदन्तिनः | पूर्वापरपरामर्शमकुर्वन्भृगुरुत्थितः || १३ ||

prekṣya tacchuṣkakaṅkālamālānaṃ duḥkhadantinaḥ | pūrvāparaparāmarśamakurvanbhṛgurutthitaḥ || 13 ||

English

Seeing that dry skeleton with teeth of sorrow, Bhrigu, having arisen, made a reflection on the past and future.

हिन्दी

उस सूखे कंकाल को देखकर जिसके दांत दुःख के थे, भृगु उठे और भूत और भविष्य पर विचार किया।

आलोकसमकाले हि प्रतिभानं ततो भृगोः | चिरमुत्क्रान्तजीवः किं मत्पुत्रोऽयमिति क्षणात् || १४ ||

ālokasamakāle hi pratibhānaṃ tato bhṛgoḥ | ciramutkrāntajīvaḥ kiṃ matputro'yamiti kṣaṇāt || 14 ||

English

At the moment of seeing, the recognition of Bhrigu arose immediately, 'Is this my son who has been dead for a long time?'

देखते ही भृगु को तुरंत पहचान हो गई, 'क्या यह मेरा बेटा है जो लंबे समय से मरा हुआ है?'

अचिन्तयत एवास्य भविष्यं तनयं ततः | कालं प्रति बभूवाशु कोपः परमदारुणः || १५ ||

acintayata evāsya bhaviṣyaṃ tanayaṃ tataḥ | kālaṃ prati babhūvāśu kopaḥ paramadāruṇaḥ || 15 ||

English

He then thought about the future of his son and immediately became extremely angry towards time.

फिर उन्होंने अपने बेटे के भविष्य पर सोचा और तुरंत समय के प्रति अत्यंत क्रोधित हो गए।

अकाल एव मत्पुत्रो नीतः किमिति कोपितः | कालाय शापमुत्सष्टुं भगवानुपचक्रमे || १६ ||

akāla eva matputro nītaḥ kimiti kopitaḥ | kālāya śāpamutsṛṣṭuṃ bhagavānupacakrame || 16 ||

English

Why was my son taken away untimely? The Lord became angry and prepared to curse Time.

मेरा पुत्र असमय ही क्यों ले जाया गया? भगवान क्रोधित हो गए और काल को शाप देने के लिए तैयार हो गए।

अथाकलितरूपोऽसौ कालः कवलितप्रजः | आधिभौतिकमास्थाय वपुर्मुनिमुपाययौ || १७ ||

athākalitarūpo'sau kālaḥ kavalitaprajaḥ | ādhibhautikamāsthāya vapurmuminupāyayau || 17 ||

English

Then, Time, having a distorted form and devouring creatures, assuming a material body, approached the sage.

तब, काल, जिसका रूप विकृत हो गया था और जो प्राणियों को निगल रहा था, एक भौतिक शरीर धारण करके ऋषि के पास गया।

खड्गपाशधरः श्रीमान्कुण्डली कवचान्वितः | षड्भुजः षण्मुखो बह्व्या वृतः किङ्करसेनया || १८ ||

khaḍgapāśadharaḥ śrīmānkuṇḍalī kavacānvitaḥ | ṣaḍbhijaḥ ṣaṇmukho bahvyā vṛtaḥ kiṅkarasenayā || 18 ||

English

Bearing a sword and a noose, the glorious one was adorned with earrings and armor. He had six arms and six faces and was surrounded by a large army of servants.

तलवार और फंदा धारण करने वाला, शोभायमान, कुण्डल और कवच से सुशोभित था। उसके छह हाथ और छह मुख थे और वह सेवकों की एक बड़ी सेना से घिरा हुआ था।

English

With the flames emanating from his body, he illuminated the sky like the blossoming flame of the forest tree in spring.

English

The rays emanating from the tips of the trident in his hand shone like golden earrings, illuminating the directions.

उसके हाथ में त्रिशूल की नोकों से निकलने वाली किरणें सोने के कुण्डलों की तरह चमक रही थीं, जो दिशाओं को प्रकाशित कर रही थीं।

यत्परश्वसनापास्तशिखरा मेदिनीभृतः | दोलामिव समारूढाश्चेलुः पेतुश्च घूर्णिताः || २१ ||

yatparaśvasanāpāstasiśikhara medinībhṛtaḥ | dolāmiva samārūḍhāśceluḥ petuśca ghūrṇitāḥ || 21 ||

English

As the earth-bearer's peaks were blown away by the exhalation, they swayed and fell, as if mounted on a swing.

जैसे पृथ्वी धारण करने वाले के शिखर श्वास के द्वारा उड़ा दिए गए, वे झूले पर चढ़े हुए की तरह लहराए और गिर पड़े।

यत्खड्गमण्डलोद्द्योतैः श्यामं बिम्बं विवस्वतः | कल्पदग्धजगद्धूमपर्याकुलमिवावभौ || २२ ||

yatkhaḍgamaṇḍaloddyotaiḥ śyāmaṃ bimbaṃ vivasvataḥ | kalpadagdhajagaddhūmaparyākulamivāvabhau || 22 ||

English

The dark orb of the sun appeared as if enveloped in the smoke of a world burned by the brilliance of the sword's circle.

हिन्दी

सूर्य का श्याम बिम्ब तलवार के चक्र की चमक से जले हुए संसार के धुएँ से ढका हुआ प्रतीत हुआ।

स उपेत्य महाबाहो कुपितं तं महामुनिम् | कल्पक्षुब्धाब्धिगम्भीरं सान्त्वपूर्वमुवाच ह || २३ ||

sa upetya mahābāho kupitaṃ taṃ mahāmunim | kalpakṣubdhābdhigambhīraṃ sāntvapūrvamuvāca ha || 23 ||

English

Approaching that angry great sage, O mighty-armed one, he spoke to him with soothing words, as deep as the ocean stirred by the churning at the end of the world.

हिन्दी

उस क्रोधित महामुनि के पास जाकर, हे महाबाहो, उसने उससे प्रलय के मंथन से क्षुब्ध समुद्र की तरह गहरी शांति देने वाली बातें कहीं।

विज्ञातलोकस्थितयो मुने दृष्टपरावराः | हेतुनापि न मुह्यन्ति किं नु हेतुं विनोत्तमाः || २४ ||

vijñātalokasthitayo mune dṛṣṭaparāvarāḥ | hetunāpi na muhyanti kiṃ nu hetuṃ vinottamāḥ || 24 ||

English

O sage, those who know the state of the world and have seen the high and the low, do not get confused even by a cause, let alone without a cause, O best one.

हिन्दी

हे मुनि, जो लोग लोक की स्थिति को जानते हैं और ऊँच-नीच देख चुके हैं, वे कारण से भी भ्रमित नहीं होते, फिर बिना कारण के तो क्या ही कहना है, हे उत्तम।

त्वमनन्ततपा विप्रो वयं नियतिपालकाः | तेन संपूज्यसे पूज्यः साधो नेतरयेच्छया || २५ ||

tvamanantatapā vipro vayaṃ niyatipālakāḥ | tena saṃpūjyase pūjyaḥ sādho netarayecchayā || 25 ||

English

You are a Brahmin of endless penance, and we are the protectors of destiny. Therefore, you are worshipped, O worshipful one, not out of any other desire.

हिन्दी

तुम अनंत तप के ब्राह्मण हो, और हम नियति के रक्षक हैं। इसलिए, हे पूजनीय, तुम किसी अन्य इच्छा से नहीं, पूजे जाते हो।

मा तपःक्षपयाऽबुद्धे कल्पकालमहानलैः| यो न दग्धोऽस्मि मे तस्य किं त्वं शापेन धक्ष्यसि || २६ ||

mā tapaḥkṣapayā'buddhe kalpakālamahānalaiḥ| yo na dagdho'smi me tasya kiṃ tvaṃ śāpena dhakṣyasi || 26 ||

English

O ignorant one, I have not been burnt by the great fires of the aeons| What will you burn with your curse?

हिन्दी

हे अज्ञानी, मैं कल्पों के महान अग्नियों से नहीं जला हूँ| तुम अपने शाप से क्या जलाओगे?

संसारावलयो ग्रस्ता निगीर्णा रुद्रकोटयः| भुक्तानि विष्णुवृन्दानि क्व न शक्ता वयं मुने || २७ ||

saṃsārāvalayo grastā nigīrṇā rudrakoṭayaḥ| bhuktāni viṣṇuvṛndāni kva na śaktā vayaṃ mune || 27 ||

English

We have consumed the multitudes of Vishnus and swallowed the hordes of Rudras| Where are we not capable, O sage?

हिन्दी

हमने विष्णुओं के समूहों को खा लिया है और रुद्रों के समूहों को निगल लिया है| हे ऋषि, हम कहाँ असमर्थ नहीं हैं?

भोक्तारो हि वयं ब्रह्मन्भोजनं युष्मदादयः| स्वयं नियतिरेषा हि नावयोरेतदीहितम् || २८ ||

bhoktāro hi vayaṃ brahmanbhojanaṃ yuṣmadādayaḥ| svayaṃ niyatireṣā hi nāvayoreta dīhitam || 28 ||

English

We are indeed the enjoyers, O Brahman, and you are our food| This is indeed the natural order, not something desired by either of us

हिन्दी

हम ही भोक्ता हैं, हे ब्रह्मन, और तुम हमारा भोजन हो| यह ही प्रकृति का नियम है, हममें से किसी की इच्छा नहीं है

स्वयमूर्ध्वं प्रयात्यग्निः स्वयं यान्ति पयांस्यधः| भोक्तारं भोजनं याति सृष्टिं चाप्यन्तकः स्वयम् || २९ ||

svayamūrdhvaṃ prayātyagniḥ svayaṃ yānti payāṃsyadhaḥ| bhoktāraṃ bhojanaṃ yāti sṛṣṭiṃ cāpyantakaḥ svayam || 29 ||

English

Fire naturally rises upwards, and waters naturally flow downwards| The enjoyer goes to the food, and the destroyer naturally goes to creation

हिन्दी

अग्नि स्वाभाविक रूप से ऊपर की ओर जाती है, और जल स्वाभाविक रूप से नीचे की ओर बहता है| भोक्ता भोजन की ओर जाता है, और विनाशक स्वाभाविक रूप से सृष्टि की ओर जाता है

इदमित्थं मुने रूपं ममेह परमात्मनः| स्वात्मनि स्वयमेवात्मा स्वत एव विजृम्भते || ३० ||

idamitthaṃ mune rūpaṃ mameha paramātmanaḥ| svātmani svayamevātmā svata eva vijṛmbhate || 30 ||

English

Thus, O sage, this is the form of my supreme self here| The self manifests itself in the self, spontaneously

इस प्रकार, हे ऋषि, यह मेरे परम आत्मा का रूप है| आत्मा स्वयं में ही स्वयं को स्वतः ही प्रकट करता है

नेह कर्ता न भोक्तास्ति दृष्ट्या नष्टकलङ्कया | बहवश्चेह कर्तारो दृष्ट्याऽनष्टकलङ्कया || ३१ ||

neha kartā na bhoktāsti dṛṣṭyā naṣṭakalaṅkayā | bahavaśceha kartāro dṛṣṭyānaṣṭakalaṅkayā || 31 ||

English

There is no doer or enjoyer in this world when viewed with pure vision | Many appear as doers when viewed with impure vision.

हिन्दी

इस जगत में शुद्ध दृष्टि से देखने पर न कर्ता है और न भोगी | अशुद्ध दृष्टि से देखने पर कई कर्ता प्रतीत होते हैं।

कर्तृताकर्तृते ब्रह्मन्केवलं परिकल्पिते | असम्यग्दर्शनेनैव न सम्यग्दर्शनस्य ते || ३२ ||

kartṛtākartṛte brahmankevalaṃ parikalpite | asamyagdarśanenaiva na samyagdarśanasya te || 32 ||

English

The concepts of doership and non-doership are merely imagined by the mind | They arise from incorrect perception and not from correct perception.

हिन्दी

कर्तृता और अकर्तृता के विचार मन द्वारा केवल कल्पित हैं | ये असम्यक् दृष्टि से उत्पन्न होते हैं और सम्यक् दृष्टि से नहीं।

पुष्पाणि तरुखण्डेषु भूतानि भुवनेषु च | स्वयमायान्ति यान्तीह कल्पते हेतुनामभिः || ३३ ||

puṣpāṇi tarukhaṇḍeṣu bhūtāni bhuvaneṣu ca | svayamāyānti yāntīha kalpate hetunāmabhiḥ || 33 ||

English

Flowers bloom on trees and beings exist in the world | They come and go by themselves, appearing as if caused by reasons.

हिन्दी

पुष्प वृक्षों पर खिलते हैं और जीव जगत में रहते हैं | ये स्वयं आते और जाते हैं, कारणों से प्रतीत होते हैं।

अब्बिम्बितस्य चन्द्रस्य चलने कर्त्रकर्तृते | न सत्ये नानृते यद्वत्तद्वत्कालस्य सृष्टिषु || ३४ ||

abbimbitasya candrasya calane kartṛkartṛte | na satye nānṛte yadvat tadvatkālasya sṛṣṭiṣu || 34 ||

English

The movement of the reflected moon is neither true nor false | Similarly, the creation of time is neither true nor false.

हिन्दी

प्रतिबिंबित चंद्रमा की गति न सत्य है न असत्य | इसी प्रकार, समय की सृष्टि न सत्य है न असत्य।

मनो मिथ्याभ्रमाभोगे कर्तृताकर्तृतामयीम् | करोति कलनां रज्ज्वां भ्रान्तेक्षण इवाहिताम् || ३५ ||

mano mithyābhraṃābhoge kartṛtākartṛtāmayīm | karoti kalanāṃ rajjvāṃ bhrāntekṣaṇa ivāhitām || 35 ||

English

The mind, due to false delusion and enjoyment, creates the illusion of doership and non-doership | It creates a false perception like a mistaken view of a rope as a snake.

हिन्दी

मन, मिथ्या भ्रम और भोग के कारण, कर्तृता और अकर्तृता की माया का सृजन करता है | यह एक गलत दृष्टि की तरह रस्सी को साँप समझने की तरह है।

तेन मागा मुने कोपमापदामीदृशः क्रमः | यद्यथा तत्तथैवाशु सत्यमालोकयाकुलः || ३६ ||

tena māgā mune kopamāpadāmīdṛśaḥ kramaḥ | yadyathā tattathaivāśu satyamālokayākulaḥ || 36 ||

English

By that, O sage, the sequence of calamities and anger is such | Whatever it is, it will be seen as true immediately

उससे, हे मुनि, क्रोध और विपत्ति का क्रम ऐसा है | जो भी हो, वह तुरंत सत्य के रूप में दिखाई देगा

न वयं प्रतिभार्थेहा नाभिमानवशीकृताः | स्वतो हि तात वशगाः केवलं नियतौ स्थिताः || ३७ ||

na vayaṃ pratibhārthehā nābhimānavashīkṛtāḥ | svato hi tāta vashagāḥ kevalaṃ niyatau sthitāḥ || 37 ||

English
