śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | tasya tatrordhvaśṛṅgasya tasyāṃ bhuvi mahāvanau | dadarśa madhyamāṃ sūcīṃ protthitāṃ saśikhāmiva || 1 ||
Shri Vasishtha said: There, in that great forest, he saw a middle-sized needle standing erect like a flame.
श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: वहाँ, उस महान वन में, उसने एक मध्यम आकार की सूई देखी जो लौ की तरह खड़ी थी।
एकपादं तपस्यन्तीं शुष्यन्तीं शिरऊष्मणा । सततानशनां शुष्कपिण्डीभूतोदरत्वचम् || २ ||
ekapādaṃ tapasyantīṃ śuṣyantīṃ śiroruṣmaṇā | satatānaśanāṃ śuṣkapīṇḍībhūtodaratvacam || 2 ||
She was standing on one foot, practicing austerities, drying up due to the heat of the sun, continuously fasting, with her belly and skin shriveled like a dry lump.
वह एक पैर पर खड़ी थी, तपस्या कर रही थी, सूर्य की गर्मी से सूख रही थी, लगातार उपवास कर रही थी, उसका पेट और त्वचा सूखी गेंद की तरह सिकुड़ गया था।
सकृद्विकसितास्येन गृहीत्वेवातपानिलान् । पश्चात्त्यजन्तीं हृदये मे न मान्तीत्यनारतम् || ३ ||
sakṛdvikasitāsyena gṛhītvātapānilān | paścāttyajantīṃ hṛdaye me na māntītyanāratam || 3 ||
With her mouth slightly open, as if grasping the heated winds, she then released them from her heart, continuously saying, 'I do not accept this in my heart.'
अपने मुंह को थोड़ा खोलकर, मानो गर्म हवाओं को पकड़ रही हो, फिर उन्हें अपने हृदय से छोड़ दिया, लगातार कहते हुए, 'मैं इसे अपने हृदय में स्वीकार नहीं करती।'
शुष्कां चण्डांशुकिरणैर्जर्जरां वनवायुभिः । अचलन्तीनिजात्स्थानात्स्नापितामिन्दुरश्मिभिः || ४ ||
śuṣkāṃ caṇḍāṃśukiraṇairjarjarāṃ vanavāyubhiḥ | acalantīnijātsthānātsnāpitāminduraśmibhiḥ || 4 ||
Dry, scorched by the fierce rays of the sun, worn out by the forest winds, unmoving from her own place, bathed by the moon's rays.
सूखी, सूर्य की तीव्र किरणों से झुलसी, वन की हवाओं से थकी, अपने स्थान से अचल, चाँदनी से स्नान करती।
पूर्वं रजोणुनैकेन संविष्टच्छन्नमस्तकाम् । कृतार्थत्वं कथयतीं ददतान्यस्य नास्पदम् || ५ ||
pūrvaṃ rajoṇunenaiken saṃviṣṭacchannamastakām | kṛtārthatvaṃ kathayatīṃ dadatānyasya nāspadam || 5 ||
Previously, with a single particle of dust covering her head, she spoke of her fulfillment, giving no hope to anyone else.
पहले, एक धूल कण से अपना सिर ढंके हुए, वह अपनी पूर्णता की बात करती थी, किसी और को आशा नहीं देती थी।
अरण्यान्येव दत्त्वार्थ चिरं जातशिखामिव | मूर्ध्न्यवस्थापितप्राणजटाजूटवलीमिव || ६ ||
araṇyānyeva dattvārtha ciraṃ jātaśikhāmiva | mūrdhnyavasthāpitaprāṇajaṭājūṭavalīmiva || 6 ||
Having given away the forests, she stood with her matted hair on her head, as if she had long been initiated with a tuft of hair.
वनों को देकर, वह अपने सिर पर जटाओं की जूट के साथ खड़ी हुई, मानो उसने लंबे समय से शिखा के साथ दीक्षा ले रखी हो।
तां प्रेक्ष्य पवनः सूचीं विस्मयाकुलचेतनः | प्रणम्यालोक्य सुचिरं भीतभीत इवागतः || ७ ||
tāṃ prekṣya pavanaḥ sūcīṃ vismayākulacetanaḥ | praṇamyālokya suciraṃ bhītabhīta ivāgataḥ || 7 ||
Seeing her, the wind, with a mind full of wonder, bowed down and looked at her for a long time, as if frightened.
उसे देखकर, वायु, आश्चर्य से भरे मन से, नमस्कार करके और लंबे समय तक उसे देखता रहा, मानो डर गया हो।
महातपस्विनी सूची किमर्थं तप्यते तपः | नेति प्रष्टुं शशाकासौ तत्तेजोराशिनिर्जितः || ८ ||
mahātapasvinī sūcī kimarthaṃ tapyate tapaḥ | neti praṣṭuṃ śaśākāsau tattejorāśinirjitaḥ || 8 ||
Why is the great ascetic Sūcī performing such intense penance? He could not ask this, being overcome by the radiance of her penance.
महान तपस्विनी सूची ऐसी तीव्र तपस्या क्यों कर रही है? उसने यह पूछने में असमर्थ था, क्योंकि उसकी तपस्या की तेजस्विता से वह पराजित हो गया था।
भगवत्या महासूच्या अहो चित्रं महातपः | इत्येव केवलं ध्यायन्मारुतो गगनं ययौ || ९ ||
bhagavatyā mahāsūcyā aho citraṃ mahātapaḥ | ityeva kevalaṃ dhyāyanmāruto gaganaṃ yayau || 9 ||
Marveling at the great penance of the divine Sūcī, the wind, meditating on this alone, went to the sky.
दिव्य सूची की महान तपस्या पर आश्चर्य करते हुए, वायु, इसी पर ध्यान करते हुए, आकाश की ओर चला गया।
समुल्लङ्घ्याभ्रमार्ग तु वातस्कन्धानतीत्य च | सिद्धवृन्दानधः कृत्वा सूर्यमार्गमुपेत्य च || १० ||
samullaṅghyābhraṃārga tu vātaskandhānatītya ca | siddhavṛndānadhaḥ kṛtvā sūryamārgamupetya ca || 10 ||
Crossing the path of the clouds and passing beyond the shoulders of the wind, placing the group of perfected beings below, and reaching the path of the sun.
बादलों के मार्ग को पार करके और वायु के कंधों को पार करके, सिद्धों के समूह को नीचे रखकर, और सूर्य के मार्ग तक पहुंचकर।
ऊर्ध्वमेत्य विमानेभ्यः प्राप शक्रपुरान्तरेसूचीदर्शनपुण्यं तमालिलिङ्ग पुरंदरः || ११ ||
ūrdhvametya vimānebhyaḥ prāpa śakrapurāntaresūcīdarśanapuṇyaṃ tamāliliṅga puraṃdaraḥ || 11 ||
After ascending the celestial chariot, he reached the abode of Indra, the city of the gods, where he saw the sacred needle.
विमान पर चढ़कर इंद्र के नगर में पहुँचे, जहाँ उन्होंने पवित्र सूची का दर्शन किया।
पृष्टश्च कथयामास दृष्टं सर्वं मयेत्यसौसहदेवनिकायाय शक्रायास्थानवासिने || १२ ||
pṛṣṭaśca kathayāmāsa dṛṣṭaṃ sarvaṃ mayetyasausahadevanikāyāya śakrāyāsthānavāsine || 12 ||
When asked, he narrated everything he had seen to the assembly of gods, who were residents of the celestial abode.
जब पूछा गया, तो उन्होंने देवों की सभा को, जो दिव्य निवास में रहते हैं, सब कुछ बताया जो उन्होंने देखा था।
वायुरुवाचजम्बूद्वीपेऽस्ति शैलेन्द्रो हिमवान्नाम सून्नतःजामाता यस्य भगवान्साक्षाच्छशिकलाधरः || १३ ||
vāyuruvācajambūdvīpe'sti śailendro himavānnāma sūnnataḥjāmātā yasya bhagavānsākṣācchaśikalādharaḥ || 13 ||
The wind said, 'In Jambudvipa, there is a mountain named Himalaya, which is the father-in-law of the moon, the bearer of the crescent.'
वायु ने कहा, 'जम्बूद्वीप में हिमालय नाम का एक पर्वत है, जो चंद्रमा का ससुर है, जो चंद्रकला का धारक है।'
तस्योत्तरे महाशृङ्गपृष्ठे परमरूपिणीस्थिता तपस्विनी सूची तपश्चरति दारुणम् || १४ ||
tasyottare mahāśṛṅgapṛṣṭhe paramarūpiṇīsthitā tapasvinī sūcī tapaścarati dāruṇam || 14 ||
On the northern peak of that mountain, the supremely beautiful ascetic, Sūcī, is performing severe penance.
उस पर्वत के उत्तरी शिखर पर, परम सुंदर तपस्वी सूची कठोर तपस्या कर रही है।
बहुनात्र किमुक्तेन वाताद्यशनशान्तयेयया स्वोदरसौषिर्यं पिण्डीकृत्वा निवारितम् || १५ ||
bahunātra kimuktena vātādyaśanaśāntayeyayā svodarasauṣiryaṃ piṇḍīkṛtvā nivāritam || 15 ||
What more is there to say? For the pacification of the digestive wind, one should make a ball of their own intestinal juices and consume it.
इसमें और क्या कहना है? पाचन वायु की शांति के लिए, एक को अपने आंतरिक रसों का गोला बनाकर खाना चाहिए।
शान्तसंकोचसूक्ष्मार्थं विकास्यास्यं रजोणुना | तयाद्य स्थगितं शीतवाताशननिवृत्तये || १६ ||
śāntasaṅkocasūkṣmārthaṃ vikāsyāsyaṃ rajoṇunā | tayādya sthagitaṃ śītavātāśananivṛttaye || 16 ||
To expand the subtle meaning of the calm and contracted, with the minute particle of passion, it was first stopped to prevent the cold wind and food.
शान्त और संकुचित की सूक्ष्म अर्थ को विकसित करने के लिए, रजोगुण के अणु से, उसने पहले ठंडी हवा और भोजन को रोकने के लिए किया।
तस्यास्तीव्रेण तपसा तुहिनाकरमुत्सृजन् | अग्न्याकारमयो गृह्णन् देव दुःसेव्यतां गतः || १७ ||
tasyāstīvreṇa tapasā tuhinākaramutsṛjan | agnyākāramayo gṛhṇan deva duḥsevyatāṃ gataḥ || 17 ||
With her intense penance, she abandoned the form of the cold mountain and assumed the form of fire, becoming difficult for the gods to serve.
अपने तीव्र तप से, उसने ठंडे पर्वत का रूप छोड़ दिया और अग्नि का रूप धारण कर लिया, जिससे देवताओं के लिए उसकी सेवा करना कठिन हो गया।
तदुत्तिष्ठाशु गच्छामः सर्व एव पितामहम् | तद्वरार्थमनर्थाय विद्धि तत्सुमहत्तपः || १८ ||
taduttiṣṭhāśu gacchāmaḥ sarva eva pitāmaham | tadvārārthamanarthāya viddhi tatsumahattapaḥ || 18 ||
Therefore, rise quickly, let us all go to the grandfather (Brahma). Know that his great penance is for a boon that will lead to misfortune.
इसलिए, उठो शीघ्र, हम सभी पितामह (ब्रह्मा) के पास चलें। जान लो कि उसका महान तप एक ऐसे वर के लिए है जो अनर्थकारी होगा।
इति वातेरितः शक्रः सहदेवगणेन सः | जगाम ब्रह्मणो लोकं प्रार्थयामास तं विभुम् || १९ ||
iti vāteritaḥ śakraḥ sahadevagaṇena saḥ | jagāma brahmaṇo lokaṃ prārthayāmāsa taṃ vibhum || 19 ||
Thus urged by the wind, Indra, along with the assembly of gods, went to the world of Brahma and prayed to that lord.
इस प्रकार वायु द्वारा प्रेरित होकर, इंद्र, देवगण के साथ, ब्रह्मा के लोक में गए और उस भगवान से प्रार्थना की।
सूच्या वरमहं दातुं गच्छामि हिमवच्छिरः | ब्रह्मणेति प्रतिज्ञाते शक्रः स्वर्गमुपाययौ || २० ||
sūcyā varamahaṃ dātuṃ gacchāmi himavacchiraḥ | brahmaṇeti pratijñāte śakraḥ svargamupāyayau || 20 ||
Having promised Brahma, 'I will go to the peak of the Himalayas to grant the boon,' Indra returned to heaven.
ब्रह्मा को वचन देकर कि 'मैं हिमालय के शिखर पर जाऊँगा और वर दूँगा,' इंद्र स्वर्ग लौट आए।
एतावताथ कालेन सा बभूवातिपावनी । सूची निजतपस्तापतापितामरमन्दिरा || २१ ||
etāvatātha kālena sā babhūvātipāvanī | sūcī nijatapastāpatāpitāmaramandirā || 21 ||
By this time, she became extremely pure, like a needle that had been heated by the fire of her own penance, burning the abode of the gods.
इस समय तक, वह अत्यंत पवित्र हो गई थी, जैसे कि एक सूई जो अपने तप की आग से तपाई गई हो, देवताओं के निवास को जला रही हो।
मुखरन्ध्रस्थितार्कांशुदृशा स्वच्छाययैव सा । विकासिन्या विवर्तिस्था चोदितान्तमवेक्षिता || २२ ||
mukharandhrasthitārkāṃśudṛśā svacchāyayeva sā | vikāsinyā vivartisthā coditāntamavekṣitā || 22 ||
With her gaze fixed on the sun's rays entering through the mouth of the cave, she, being pure, saw the end of the universe through the opening of the blooming flower.
गुफा के मुख से प्रवेश करते सूर्य की किरणों पर अपनी दृष्टि स्थिर करके, वह पवित्र होकर, खिले फूल के छिद्र से ब्रह्माण्ड के अंत को देखती है।
कौशेयरूपया सूच्या मेरुः स्थैर्येण निर्जितः । मज्जनं नैति वृद्ध्वैवं मुक्तमाद्यन्तयोर्दिने || २३ ||
kauśeyarūpayā sūcyā meruḥ sthairyena nirjitaḥ | majjanam naiti vṛddhvai vaṃ mukta mādyantayor dine || 23 ||
With the form of silk, the needle conquered Mount Meru with steadiness. It does not sink even when released at the beginning and end of the day.
रेशम के रूप में, सूई ने स्थिरता से मेरु पर्वत को जीत लिया। यह दिन के आरंभ और अंत में भी छोड़े जाने पर डूबती नहीं है।
मध्याह्ने तापभीत्येव विशन्त्या मारुतान्तरम् । अन्यदा गौरवाद्दृष्ट्वा दूरतः प्रेक्षमाणया || २४ ||
madhyāhne tāpabhītyeva viśantyā mārutāntaram | anyadā gauravāddṛṣṭvā dūrataḥ prekṣamāṇayā || 24 ||
At noon, fearing the heat, she enters the wind. At other times, seeing the heaviness, she watches from a distance.
दोपहर में, गर्मी से डरकर, वह हवा में प्रवेश करती है। अन्य समय में, भारीपन देखकर, वह दूर से देखती है।
सा तामवेक्षते क्षारात्तापादङ्गे निमज्जति । संकटे विस्मरत्येव जनो गौरवसत्क्रियाम् || २५ ||
sā tāmavekṣate kṣārāttāpādaṅge nimajjati | saṃkaṭe vismaratyeva jano gauravasatkriyām || 25 ||
She looks at her, sinking in the heat of the caustic substance, immersed in the body. In distress, one forgets the honorable deed.
वह उसे देखती है, जो क्षार के ताप में डूबी हुई है, शरीर में डूबी हुई है। संकट में, व्यक्ति सम्मानित कार्य को भूल जाता है।
छायासूची तापसूची यश्चात्मा स तृतीयया | त्रिकोणं तपसा पूतं वाराणस्या समं कृतम् || २६ ||
chhāyāsūcī tāpasūcī yaścātmā sa tṛtīyayā | trikoṇaṃ tapasā pūtaṃ vārāṇasyā samaṃ kṛtam || 26 ||
The one who is the essence of both the shadow and the heat, that is the third form | The triangle purified by austerity is made equal to Varanasi
जो छाया और ताप दोनों का आत्मा है, वही तीसरा है | तपस्या से पवित्र त्रिकोण वाराणसी के समान बनाया गया है
गतास्तेन त्रिकोणेन त्रिवर्णपरिखावता | वायवः पांसवो येऽपि ते परां मुक्तिमागताः || २७ ||
gatāsten trikoṇena trivarṇaparikhāvatā | vāyavaḥ pāṃsavo ye'pi te parāṃ muktimāgatāḥ || 27 ||
Those who have gone through the triangle with the three-colored boundary | Even the dust particles have attained the ultimate liberation
जो त्रिवर्ण सीमा वाले त्रिकोण से गुजरे हैं | उन धूल कणों ने भी परम मुक्ति प्राप्त की है
विदितपरमकारणाद्य जाता स्वयमनुचेतनसंविदं विचार्य | स्वमननकलनानुसार एकस्त्विह हि गुरुः परमो न राघवान्यः || २८ ||
viditaparamakāraṇādya jātā svayamanucetanasanvidaṃ vicārya | svamananakalanānusāra ekastvihi hi guruḥ paramo na rāghavānyaḥ || 28 ||
Knowing the supreme cause and other things, born by itself, considering the conscious awareness | According to one's own contemplation, here indeed is the supreme guru, none other than Raghava
