rājovāca | atha gacchati kāle'tra jarājarjaritāyuṣi | tuṣārapūrṇaśaṣpaughasamaśmaśrubhṛte mayi || 1 ||
The king said: Now, as time passes, my life is worn out by old age, my body is filled with white hairs like a heap of frost-covered grass.
राजा ने कहा: अब, जैसे-जैसे समय बीतता जाता है, मेरा जीवन बुढ़ापे से थका हुआ है, मेरा शरीर बर्फ से भरे घास के ढेर की तरह सफेद बालों से भरा हुआ है।
कर्मवातापनुन्नेषु सरसेष्वरसेष्वपि | पतत्सु वासरौघेषु शीर्णपर्णगणेष्विव || २ ||
karmavātāpanunneṣu saraseṣvaraseṣvapi | patatsu vāsaraughaṣu śīrṇaparṇagaṇeṣviva || 2 ||
In the lakes and pleasures, afflicted by the winds of action, the days fall like leaves withered by age.
कर्मों की हवाओं से पीड़ित झीलों और आनंदों में, दिन बुढ़ापे से सूखे पत्तों की तरह गिरते हैं।
आजाविव शरौघेषु सुखदुःखेष्वनारतम् | कलहेष्वप्यकार्येषु चागच्छत्सु पतत्सु च || ३ ||
ājāviva śaraughaṣu sukhaduḥkheṣvanāratam | kalheṣvapyakāryeṣu cāgacchatsu patatsu ca || 3 ||
Like a gambler in the showers of arrows, in happiness and sorrow continuously, in useless quarrels, coming and falling.
एक जुआरी की तरह बाणों की वर्षा में, सुख-दुःख में लगातार, बेकार के झगड़ों में, आते-जाते और गिरते हुए।
विकल्पकल्पनावर्तवर्तिनि द्विजगे जडे | समुद्र इव कल्लोलभरे भ्रमितचेतसि || ४ ||
vikalpakalpanāvartavartini dvijage jaḍe | samudra iva kallolabhare bhramitacetasi || 4 ||
In the mind, dull like a bird's cage, whirling with the whirlpool of doubts and imaginations, like the ocean filled with waves.
मन में, जो पक्षी के पिंजड़े की तरह मूर्ख है, संदेहों और कल्पनाओं के भँवर में घूमता हुआ, लहरों से भरे समुद्र की तरह।
चलच्चिन्ताचितं चक्रमारूढे भ्रान्त आत्मनि | प्रोह्यमाने तृण इव सावर्तं कालसागरे || ५ ||
calaccintācitaṃ cakramārūḍhe bhrānta ātmani | prohyamāne tṛṇa iva sāvartaṃ kālasāgare || 5 ||
In the self, confused, mounted on the wheel of moving thoughts, being thrown like a blade of grass in the ocean of time.
आत्मा में, भ्रमित, चलती विचारों के पहिये पर चढ़ा हुआ, समय के समुद्र में एक घास की पत्ती की तरह फेंका जाता हुआ।
विन्ध्योर्वीवनकीटस्य ग्रासैकशरणस्य मे | द्विबाहोर्गर्दभस्यात्र क्षीण इत्थं समागणे || ६ ||
vindhyorvīvanakīṭasya grāsaikasharaṇasya me | dvibāhorgardabhasyātra kṣīṇa itthaṃ samāgaṇe || 6 ||
In this assembly, I am like a weak donkey with two arms, whose only refuge is the forest insect of the Vindhya mountain.
इस सभा में, मैं विन्ध्य पर्वत के वन कीट के समान हूँ, जिसका एकमात्र आश्रय है और दो हाथों वाले गधे की तरह दुर्बल हूँ।
विस्मृते मम भूपत्वे शवस्येव महाजवे | चाण्डालत्वे स्थिरीभूते पक्षच्छिन्न इवाचले || ७ ||
vismṛte mama bhūpatve śavasyeva mahājave | cāṇḍālatve sthirībhūte pakṣacchinna ivācale || 7 ||
With my kingship forgotten, I am like a swift corpse, firmly established in the state of a Chandala, like a mountain with its wings cut off.
मेरे राज्य को भूल जाने पर, मैं एक तेजी से भागते शव के समान हूँ, चाण्डाल की स्थिति में दृढ़ता से स्थापित हूँ, जैसे पंख कटे हुए पर्वत के समान।
संसारमिव कल्पान्तो दावाग्निरिव काननम् | सागरोर्मिस्तटमिव शुष्कवृक्षमिवाशनिः || ८ ||
saṃsāramiva kalpānto dāvāgniriva kānanam | sāgarormistataṃmiva śuṣkavṛkṣamivāśaniḥ || 8 ||
Like the end of the world, a forest fire, the shore of the ocean with waves, and a dry tree struck by lightning.
जैसे संसार का अंत, जंगल में आग, समुद्र का तट जिसमें लहरें हों, और सूखे पेड़ पर बिजली गिरना।
अकाण्डे मरणोड्डीनं चण्डचण्डालमण्डलम् | निरन्नतृणपत्राम्बु विन्ध्यकच्छं तदाययौ || ९ ||
akāṇḍe maraṇoḍḍīnaṃ caṇḍacaṇḍālamāṇḍalam | nirannatṛṇapatrāmbu vindhyakacchaṃ tadāyayau || 9 ||
In the uninhabited region, the miserable death, the fierce Chandala community, without food, grass, leaves, and water, he reached the Vindhya forest.
अजनबी क्षेत्र में, दुःखद मृत्यु, भयानक चाण्डाल समुदाय, भोजन, घास, पत्ते और पानी के बिना, वह विन्ध्य वन तक पहुँचा।
न वर्षति घनव्राते दृष्टनष्टे क्वचित्स्थिते | पूतांगारकणोन्मिश्रगतौ वहति मारुते || १० ||
na varṣati ghanavrāte dṛṣṭanaṣṭe kvacitsthite | pūtāṃgārakaṇonmiśragatau vahati mārute || 10 ||
It does not rain in the dense cloud, seen and lost somewhere, the wind blows mixed with purified charcoal particles.
घने बादल में बारिश नहीं होती, जो कहीं दिखाई देती है और गायब हो जाती है, हवा शुद्ध कोयले के कणों से मिश्रित चलती है।
शीर्णमर्मरपर्णासु दावाग्निवलितासु च | वनस्थलीषु शून्यासु चिरप्रव्रजितास्विव || ११ ||
śīrṇamarmaraparṇāsu dāvāgnivalitāsu ca | vanasthalīṣu śūnyāsu cirapravrajitāsviva || 11 ||
In the forests where the trees were withered and the leaves were dried up, and where the forest fires had spread, it seemed as if the forests had been abandoned for a long time.
जहाँ पेड़ सूखे हुए थे और पत्ते सूखे हुए थे, और जहाँ जंगल की आग फैल गई थी, वहाँ ऐसा लगता था जैसे जंगल बहुत दिनों से छोड़ दिया गया हो।
अकाण्डमभवद्भीममुद्दामदवपावकम् | शोषिताशेषगहनं भस्मशेषतृणोलपम् || १२ ||
akāṇḍamabhavadbhīmamuddāmadavapāvakam | śoṣitāśeṣagahanam bhasmaśeṣatṛṇolapam || 12 ||
The unbroken, fierce forest fire became intense, drying up all the dense parts of the forest and reducing the grass to ashes.
अखंडित, भयानक जंगल की आग तीव्र हो गई, जंगल के घने हिस्सों को सूखा देती हुई और घास को राख में बदल देती हुई।
पांसुधूसरसर्वाङ्गं क्षुधिताशेषमानवम् | निरन्नतृणपानीयं देशाद्युद्दावमण्डलम् || १३ ||
pāṃsudhūsarasarvāṅgaṃ kṣudhitāśeṣamānavam | nirannatṛṇapānīyaṃ deśādyuddāvamaṇḍalam || 13 ||
The entire region was covered in dust and appeared pale. All the people were hungry, and there was no food, grass, or water, making the area seem like a deserted land.
पूरा क्षेत्र धूल से ढका हुआ था और उजाड़ लग रहा था। सभी लोग भूखे थे, और वहाँ खाना, घास या पानी नहीं था, जिससे क्षेत्र एक उजाड़ भूमि जैसा लग रहा था।
कचन्मरुमरीच्यम्बुमज्जन्महिषमण्डलम् | वातोत्थसीकरव्यूहापरिवाहवनाम्बरम् || १४ ||
kacanmarumarīcyambumajjanmahiṣamaṇḍalam | vātotthasīkaravyūhāparivāhavanāmbaram || 14 ||
The region was like a desert with mirages of water, and the sky was filled with clouds formed by the wind, creating an illusion of rain.
क्षेत्र एक मरुस्थल की तरह था जहाँ पानी के मृगतृष्णा थे, और आकाश हवा से बने बादलों से भरा हुआ था, जिससे वर्षा का भ्रम होता था।
पानीयशब्दमात्रैकश्रवणोत्कनरव्रजम् | आतपाततिसंशोषसीदत्सकलमानवम् || १५ ||
pānīyaśabdamātraikśravaṇotkanravrajam | ātapātatisamśoṣasīdatsakalamānavam || 15 ||
The sound of water was the only thing heard, and the intense heat caused extreme exhaustion among all the people.
पानी की आवाज ही एकमात्र चीज थी जो सुनाई देती थी, और तीव्र गर्मी ने सभी लोगों में अत्यधिक थकान पैदा कर दी।
पत्रग्रसनसंरब्धक्षुधितोत्थितजीवितम् | स्वाङ्गचर्वणसंरम्भलुठद्दशनमण्डलम् || १६ ||
patragrasanasanrabdhakṣudhitottitajīvitam | svāṅgacarvaṇasanrambhaluṭhaddaśanamaṇḍalam || 16 ||
The life that arises from intense hunger, consuming leaves, and the circle of teeth that are eager to devour one's own limbs.
भूख की तीव्रता से उत्पन्न जीवन, पत्ते खाते हुए, और अपने ही अंगों को खाने के लिए उत्सुक दाँतों का चक्र।
मांसशङ्कानिगीर्णोग्रखदिराग्निकणोत्करम् | मण्डकासारसंग्रस्तवनपाषाणखण्डकम् || १७ ||
māṃsaśaṅkānigīrṇograkhadirāgnikaṇotkaram | maṇḍakāsārasaṅgrastavanapāṣāṇakhaṇḍakam || 17 ||
The fear of consuming meat, the intense fire of the Khadira tree, and the stones gathered from the forest, crushed into fragments.
मांस खाने का भय, खदिर वृक्ष की तीव्र आग, और जंगल से एकत्रित पत्थरों के टुकड़े।
अन्योन्यभूतसंसक्तमातृपुत्रपितृव्रजम् | गृध्रोदररटत्सारनिगीर्णवरसारिकम् || १८ ||
anyonyabhūtasaṃsaktamātṛputrapitṛvrajam | gṛdhrodrararṭatsāranigīrṇavarasārikam || 18 ||
The interdependence of beings, the community of mothers, sons, and fathers, and the vulture's belly filled with the essence of the best birds.
प्राणियों का परस्पर संबंध, माताओं, पुत्रों और पिताओं का समुदाय, और गिद्ध का पेट जो सर्वश्रेष्ठ पक्षियों के सार से भरा हुआ है।
परस्पराङ्गविच्छेदरक्तसिक्तधरातलम् | हरिग्रसनसंरब्धमत्तक्षुधितवारणम् || १९ ||
parasparāṅgavicchedaraktasiktadharātalam | harigrasanasanrabdhamaṭṭakṣudhitavāraṇam || 19 ||
The ground stained with blood from the mutual severing of limbs, and the elephant maddened by hunger, eager to devour.
परस्पर अंगों के विच्छेद से रक्त सिक्त भूमि, और भूख से उन्मत्त हाथी, जो खाने के लिए उत्सुक है।
दरीनिगरणैकैकसिंहभ्रमणभीषणम् | अन्योन्यग्रसनोद्युक्तलोकमल्लकृतं वहत् || २० ||
darīnigaraṇaikaikekasiṃhabhramaṇabhīṣaṇam | anyonyagrasanodyuktalokamallakṛtaṃ vahat || 20 ||
The terrifying wandering of the lone lion in the cave, and the world of wrestlers engaged in mutual devouring.
गुफा में अकेले सिंह का भयावह विचरण, और परस्पर खाने में लगे मल्लयुद्ध का संसार।
निष्पत्रपादपोड्डीनप्रौढाङ्गारमयानिलम् | रक्तपानोत्कमार्जारलीढधातुतटावनि || २१ ||
niṣpatrapādapoḍḍīnaprauḍhāṅgāramayānilam | raktapānotkamārjāralīḍhadhātutaṭāvani || 21 ||
The wind is filled with the scent of burning embers from the mature trees without leaves, and the forest is filled with the howls of jackals drunk on blood.
पत्ता रहित पेड़ों की प्रौढ़ अंगारों से भरा वायु और रक्त पान कर उत्कंठित सियारों से भरा वन।
ज्वालाघनघटाटोपसावर्तसवनानिलम् | सर्वस्थलरसद्वह्निपुञ्जपिञ्जरजङ्गलम् || २२ ||
jvālāghanaghaṭāṭopasāvartasavanānilam | sarvasthalarasadvahnipuñjapiñjarajaṅgalam || 22 ||
The wind is filled with the roar of flames and the sound of boiling pots, and the forest is filled with the crackling of fires burning everywhere.
हवा ज्वालाओं की गड़गड़ाहट और उबलते घड़ों की आवाज से भरी है, और जंगल हर जगह आग की चटक आवाज से भरा है।
दग्धाजगरकुञ्जोत्थधूममांसलगुल्मकम् | मारुतावलितज्वालासंध्याभ्रवलिताम्बरम् || २३ ||
dagdhājagarakuñjotthadhūmamāṃsalagulmakam | mārutāvalitajvālāsaṃdhyābhravalitāmbaram || 23 ||
The sky is filled with the smoke from the burnt nests of snakes, and the wind is filled with the flickering flames of the evening clouds.
आकाश साँपों के जले हुए घोंसलों से उठे धुएँ से भरा है, और हवा संध्या के बादलों की झिलमिलाती ज्वालाओं से भरी है।
उद्दामरवमुद्भान्तभस्मनाऽस्तम्भमण्डलम् | साक्रन्दनरदाराग्रदीनार्भककृतारवम् || २४ ||
uddāmaravamudbhāntabhasmanā'stambhamaṇḍalam | sākrandanaradārāgradīnārbhakakṛtāravam || 24 ||
The sky is filled with the loud cries of people and the sound of ashes falling, and the air is filled with the wailing of children.
आकाश लोगों के जोरदार चीखों और राख गिरने की आवाज से भरा है, और हवा बच्चों के रोने की आवाज से भरी है।
संभ्रान्तपुरुषव्यूहदन्तकृत्तमहाशवम् | मांसगन्धजवग्रस्तरक्तारक्तनिजाङ्गुलि || २५ ||
saṃbhrāntapuruṣavyūhadantakṛttamahāśavam | māṃsagandhajavagrastaraktāraktanijāṅguli || 25 ||
The battlefield is filled with the scattered bodies of men and the smell of flesh, and the fingers are stained with blood.
युद्धक्षेत्र व्यक्तियों के बिखरे हुए शरीरों और मांस की गंध से भरा है, और उँगलियाँ रक्त से रंगी हुई हैं।
नीलपत्रलताशङ्कापीतधूमघनच्छवि भ्रमद्गृध्रनिगीर्णोग्रनभोभ्रान्तोल्मुकामिषम् || २६ ||
nīlapatralatāśaṅkāpītadhūmaghanacchavi bhramadgṛdhranigīrṇogranabhobhrāntolmukāmiṣam || 26 ||
The sky, with its blue-leafed vines, resembles the yellow smoke of a dense cloud, and is filled with the terrifying cries of circling vultures.
आकाश नीले पत्तों वाली लताओं से भरा हुआ है, जो घने धुएं के पीले रंग की तरह लगता है, और घूमते हुए गिद्धों की भयानक आवाजों से भरा हुआ है।
इतरेतरभिन्नाङ्गलोकविद्रवणाकुलम् ज्वलिताग्निटणत्कारविदीर्णहृदयोदरम् || २७ ||
itaretarabhinnāṅgalokavidravaṇākulam jvalitāgniṭaṇatkāravadīrṇahṛdayodaram || 27 ||
The world is in chaos, with people fleeing in different directions, and the sound of burning fire tearing apart the hearts of the people.
दुनिया अराजकता में है, लोग अलग-अलग दिशाओं में भाग रहे हैं, और जलती आग की आवाज लोगों के दिलों को चीर रही है।
गर्तमारुतक्राङ्कारभीमदावाग्निवल्गनम् भीताजगरफूत्कारपतदङ्गारपादपम् || २८ ||
gartamārutakrāṅkārabhīmadāvāgnivalganam bhītājagaraphūtkārapatadaṅgārapādapam || 28 ||
The forest fire, fanned by the wind blowing through the caves, is terrifying. The frightened snakes hiss, and the burning trees fall like embers.
गुफाओं से बहती हवा से प्रज्वलित जंगल की आग भयानक है। डरे हुए साँप फुफकार रहे हैं, और जलते हुए पेड़ अंगारों की तरह गिर रहे हैं।
सदकाण्डस्फुटद्देशं प्राप्य तच्छुष्ककोटरम् द्वादशार्काग्निदग्धस्य जगतोऽनुकृतिं ययौ || २९ ||
sadakāṇḍasphuṭadddeśaṃ prāpya tacchuṣkakoṭaram dvādaśārkāgnidagdhasya jagato'nukṛtiṃ yayau || 29 ||
Reaching the place where the branches are broken and dry, the world took on the appearance of being burnt by the fire of twelve suns.
सूखी और टूटी डालों वाले स्थान तक पहुँचकर, दुनिया बारह सूर्यों की आग से जली हुई दिखने लगी।
ज्वलदनलजटालवृक्षखण्डप्रसरमरुत्प्रसरावनुन्नलोकः ज्वलनतपनभास्करात्मजानां रमणगृहानुकृतिं जगाम देशः || ३० ||
jvaladanalajaṭālavṛkṣakhaṇḍaprasaramarutprasarāvanunnalokaḥ jvalanatapanabhāskarātmajānāṃ ramaṇagṛhānukṛtiṃ jagāma deśaḥ || 30 ||
The land, with its burning trees and spreading flames, driven by the wind, took on the appearance of the abode of the sons of the blazing sun.
