rājovācabahunātra kimuktena sotsavāvarjitāśayaḥtadāprabhṛti tatrāhaṃ saṃpannaḥ puṣṭapulkasaḥ || 1 ||
The king said, 'What is the use of many words here? From that time on, I was there, endowed with a prosperous body.'
राजा ने कहा, 'यहां बहुत शब्दों का क्या उपयोग है? उस समय से मैं वहां था, समृद्ध शरीर से संपन्न।'
सप्तरात्रोत्सवस्यान्ते क्रमान्मासाष्टके गतेपुष्पिता सास्य संपन्ना स्थिता गर्भवती ततः || २ ||
saptarātrotsavasyānte kramānmāsāṣṭake gatepuṣpitā sāsya saṃpannā sthitā garbhavatī tataḥ || 2 ||
At the end of the seven-day festival, after eight months had passed, she became pregnant and remained so.
सात दिन के उत्सव के अंत में, आठ महीने बीतने के बाद, वह गर्भवती हो गई और ऐसे ही रही।
प्रसूता दुःखदां कन्यां विपद्दुःखक्रियामिवसा कन्या ववृधे शीघ्रं मूर्खचिन्तेव पीवरी || ३ ||
prasūtā duḥkhadāṃ kanyāṃ vipadduḥkhakriyāmivasā kanyā vavṛdhe śīghraṃ mūrkhacinteva pīvarī || 3 ||
She gave birth to a daughter who brought sorrow, as if she were an embodiment of misfortune. The girl grew quickly, foolish in thought, and became plump.
उसने एक दुःख देने वाली बेटी को जन्म दिया, जैसे वह दुर्भाग्य का प्रतीक हो। वह लड़की तेजी से बड़ी हुई, मूर्ख विचारों वाली, और मोटी हो गई।
पुनः प्रसूता सा वर्षैस्त्रिभिः पुत्रमशोभनमनर्थमिव दुर्बुद्धिराशापाशविधायकम् || ४ ||
punaḥ prasūtā sā varṣaistribhiḥ putramaśobhanamanarthamiva durbuddhirāśāpāśavidhāyakam || 4 ||
Again, she gave birth to a son who was inauspicious and useless, as if he were a foolish hope-destroyer.

पुनः सुतां दुहितरं पुनरप्यर्भकं ततःकलत्रवानहं जातो वने जरठपुल्कसः || ५ ||
punaḥ sutāṃ duhitaraṃ punarapyarbhakaṃ tataḥkalatravānahaṃ jāto vane jaraṭhapulkasaḥ || 5 ||
Again, she gave birth to a daughter, and then again to a child. Then, I was born in the forest, endowed with a prosperous body.

tayā saha samāstataḥ mayā bahvātiyāhitāḥ| nārake cittayā sārdhaṃ brahmaghnenaiva yātanāḥ || 6 ||
With her, I have endured much suffering there| In hell, with thoughts, together with a Brahmin killer, torments

Helpless due to the suffering of cold, wind, and heat, in the forest| For a long time, trembling like an old tortoise in the marsh
ठंड, हवा और गर्मी के दुःख से बेबस, वन में| लंबे समय तक, एक बूढ़े कछुए की तरह काँपता हुआ दलदल में
कलत्रचिन्ताह्रतया धिया संदह्यमानया| दृष्टाः कष्टसमारम्भा दिशः प्रज्वलिता इव || ८ ||
kalatracintāhratayā dhiyā sandahyamānayā| dṛṣṭāḥ kaṣṭasamārambhā diśaḥ prajvalitā iva || 8 ||
With a mind burned by the sorrow of thinking about the wife| Difficult endeavors are seen as if the directions are on fire
पत्नी के विचार से दुःख से जलते हुए मन से| कठिन प्रयास दिखाई देते हैं जैसे दिशाएँ आग में हों
क्षौमानेकसमाक्षीणपटे चेण्डकधारिणा| काष्ठभारो वने व्यूढो यो मूर्तमिव दुष्कृतम् || ९ ||
kṣaumānekasamākṣīṇapaṭe ceṇḍakadhāriṇā| kāṣṭhabhāro vane vyūḍho yo mūrtamiva duṣkṛtam || 9 ||
With a worn-out cloth made of many threads and carrying a staff| The burden of wood in the forest, as if embodied evil
बहुत सी धागों से बने फटे हुए कपड़े और एक लाठी लेकर| वन में लकड़ी का बोझ, जैसे दुष्कृति का रूप
यौकाकीर्णजरत्क्लिन्नगन्धिकौपीनवाससा| आश्वस्य धवलीकानां तले नीता घनाः समाः || १० ||
yaukākīrṇajaratklinnagandhikaupīnavāsasā| āśvasyadhavalīkānāṃ tale nītā ghanāḥ samāḥ || 10 ||
With a dirty and worn-out loincloth, soiled and smelly| Comforting the white ants, spent many dense years
गंदे और फटे हुए लंगोट से, मैले और दुर्गंधित| सफेद चींटियों को सांत्वना देते हुए, बहुत से घने साल बीते
कलत्रापूरणोत्केन जर्जरेण हिमानिलैः | हेमन्ते दर्दुरेणेव विलीनं वनकुक्षिषु || ११ ||
kalatrāpūraṇotkena jarjareṇa himānilaiḥ | hemante dardureṇeva vilīnaṃ vanakuksiṣu || 11 ||
With the cold winds of winter, the forest hollows are filled, as if with the sound of a frog, making the environment desolate.
शीत की ठंडी हवाओं से वन की खोहों में मेढक की तरह आवाज भर जाती है, जिससे वातावरण सुनसान हो जाता है।
नानाकलहकल्लोलतापप्रसरविद्रुताः | बाष्पव्याजेन निर्मुक्ता नेत्राभ्यां रक्तबिन्दवः || १२ ||
nānākalahakallolatāpaprasaravidrutāḥ | bāṣpavyājena nirmuktā netrābhyāṃ raktabindavaḥ || 12 ||
Due to various conflicts and sufferings, tears flow from the eyes like drops of blood.
विभिन्न झगड़ों और पीड़ाओं के कारण, आँसू आँखों से खून की बूँदों की तरह बहते हैं।
यामिन्यो विपिने क्लिन्ने वराहामिषभोजनाः | शिलातलकुटीकोशे नीता जलदविक्लवाः || १३ ||
yāminyo vipine klinne varāhāmiṣabhojanāḥ | śilātalakuṭīkośe nītā jaladaviklavāḥ || 13 ||
The nights in the wet forest are spent eating the flesh of wild boars, taking shelter under rocky caves, and being disturbed by the thunderstorms.
गीले जंगल में रातें सूअर के मांस खाकर, चट्टानों की गुफाओं में शरण लेकर और तूफानों से परेशान होकर बीतती हैं।
काले क्षयं गते रोहे कालाभ्रघनतां गते | असौहार्देन बन्धूनां कलहैश्चापि संततैः || १४ ||
kāle kṣayaṃ gate rohe kālābhraghanatāṃ gate | asauhārdena bandhūnāṃ kalhaiścāpi santataiḥ || 14 ||
When time has passed and the clouds have become dense, the lack of affection among relatives and continuous quarrels cause distress.
जब समय बीत चुका होता है और बादल घने हो जाते हैं, तो रिश्तेदारों में स्नेह की कमी और लगातार झगड़े पीड़ा पैदा करते हैं।
सर्वत्र जातशङ्केन कलाभिमुखरार्भकैः | मया कृपणचित्तेन नीताः परगृहे समाः || १५ ||
sarvatra jātaśaṅkena kalābhimukharārbhakaiḥ | mayā kṛpaṇacittena nītāḥ paragṛhe samāḥ || 15 ||
With suspicion arising everywhere and with the young ones facing towards the arts, I, with a pitiful heart, have spent years in someone else's home.
जहाँ संदेह उठ रहा है और छोटे बच्चे कला की ओर मुड़ रहे हैं, मैं दया भरे दिल से किसी दूसरे के घर में साल बिता रहा हूँ।
चण्डालीकलहोद्विग्नचण्डचण्डालतर्जनैः | मुखं जर्जरतां यातमिन्दू राहुरदैरिव || १६ ||
caṇḍālīkalahodvignacaṇḍacaṇḍālatarjanaiḥ | mukhaṃ jarjaratāṃ yātamindū rāhuradairiva || 16 ||
The face, distorted by the threats of the fierce and quarrelsome Chandala, appeared like the moon being swallowed by Rahu.
चण्डाल के झगड़े और धमकियों से विचलित होकर मुख जर्जर हो गया, जैसे राहु द्वारा खाया जा रहा चंद्रमा।
चर्विताः खर्वितोष्ठेन द्वीपीपिशितपेशयः | नारकाहृतविक्रीता नारक्यो रशना इव || १७ ||
carvitāḥ kharvitoṣṭhena dvīpīpiśitapeśayaḥ | nārakāhṛtavikrītā nārakyorasanā iva || 17 ||
The pieces of meat, chewed by the crooked lips, were like the tongues of those in hell, brought and sold by the hellish beings.
टेढ़े होंठों से चबाए गए मांस के टुकड़े नरक के प्राणियों द्वारा लाए और बेचे गए नरक की जीभों के समान थे।
हिमवत्कन्दरोद्गीर्णाश्चण्डा हेमन्तवीचयः | शिशिरे शीकरासारतुषारनिचयाश्चिरम् || १८ ||
himavatkandarodgīrṇāścaṇḍā hemanthavīcayaḥ | śiśire śīkarāsāratuṣāranicayāściram || 18 ||
The fierce winds, arising from the caves of the Himalayas, are the cold breezes of winter, which have been accumulating frost and dew for a long time.
हिमालय की गुफाओं से उठने वाली भयानक हवाएँ शीत की ठंडी हवाएँ हैं, जो बर्फ और ओस को लंबे समय से एकत्रित करती रही हैं।
अङ्गे निरम्बरे सोढा मृत्युमुक्ता इवेषवः | जराजरठमूढेन मूलानि क्षीणभूरुहाम् || १९ ||
aṅge nirambare soḍhā mṛtyumuktā iveṣavaḥ | jarājarṭhamūḍhena mūlāni kṣīṇabhūruhām || 19 ||
The arrows, endured on the naked body, were like death released, and the roots of the withered trees were uprooted by the old and decrepit elephant.
नंगे शरीर पर सहे गए बाण मृत्यु से मुक्त होने के समान थे, और बूढ़े और थके हुए हाथी ने सूखे पेड़ों की जड़ें उखाड़ दीं।
सुकृतानामिवैकेन समुत्खातानि भूरिशः | शरावकेष्वटव्यां च पललं पक्वमादरात् || २० ||
sukṛtānāmivaikena samutkhātāni bhūriśaḥ | śarāvakeṣvāṭavyāṃ ca palalaṃ pakvamādarāt || 20 ||
As if by one good deed, many were uprooted in abundance. In the earthen pots and on the grinding stone, the ripe fruit was offered with respect.
जैसे एक पुण्य कर्म से बहुत से उखाड़ दिए गए। मिट्टी के बर्तनों और सिल पर, पके हुए फल सम्मान से अर्पित किए गए।
अस्पृष्टेन जनैर्भुक्तं कुकलत्रवता मया | गृहीततेजःक्षतये बहुवक्रविकारिणा || २१ ||
aspṛṣṭena janairbhuktaṃ kukalatravatā mayā | gṛhītatejaḥkṣataye bahuvakravikāriṇā || 21 ||
I have enjoyed the untouched people like a crooked wife, for the sake of grasping the power of the one who has many crooked transformations.

Like a roadside vendor, I have sold my own commodity elsewhere. Skillfully, I have cut off the limbs of its body.

Sold in the iron-like Vindhya region, as if to increase my own sin born from thousands of previous births.
विंध्य क्षेत्र में लोहे की तरह बेचा गया, जैसे हजारों पिछले जन्मों से उत्पन्न अपने पाप को बढ़ाने के लिए।
अविकीर्णमसत्कीर्णं चण्डालारामभूमिषु | दृष्टः कुद्दालको दृष्ट्या संध्यास्नेहविमुक्तया || २४ ||
avikīrṇamaskīrṇaṃ caṇḍālārāmabhūmiṣu | dṛṣṭaḥ kuddālako dṛṣṭyā saṃdhyāsnehavimuktayā || 24 ||
Seen with a vision free from evening affection, the spade is seen scattered and not scattered in the land of the Chandala grove.
संध्या के स्नेह से मुक्त दृष्टि से देखा गया, खुदाई का औजार चंडाल के वन की भूमि में बिखरा हुआ और बिखरा हुआ नहीं दिखाई देता है।
रौरवापतितेनेव तत्कालस्निग्धतां गतः | विन्ध्यकन्दरगुल्मानां बन्धुत्वमिव गच्छता || २५ ||
rauravāpatiteneva tatkālasnigdhatāṃ gataḥ | vindhyakandaragulmānāṃ bandhutvamiva gacchatā || 25 ||
Fallen into Raurava hell, he has attained affection at that time, as if attaining kinship with the bushes of the Vindhya caves.
रौरव नरक में गिरने पर, उस समय स्नेह प्राप्त किया गया, जैसे विंध्य गुफाओं के झाड़ियों के साथ संबंध प्राप्त किया गया हो।
पुलिन्दवपुषा यत्र युक्तयोगैः समर्पिताः | तर्पिता लगुडाघातजितकौलेयरंहसा || २६ ||
pulindavapuṣā yatra yuktayogaiḥ samarpitāḥ | tarpitā laguḍāghātajitakauleyaraṃhasā || 26 ||
Where the Pulinda women, skilled in yoga, offered themselves, satisfied with the sound of the club's strike, defeating the Kauleya.
जहाँ पुलिन्द स्त्रियाँ, योग में कुशल, अपने आप को समर्पित करती हैं, लगुड़े की मार की आवाज से संतुष्ट होकर, कौलेय को हराती हुईं।
पुत्रदाराः कदन्नेन ग्रामकान्धोचितेन च | धारासाररणत्पत्रशुष्कतालतले निशाः || २७ ||
putradārāḥ kadannena grāmakāndhocitena ca | dhārāsārarṇatpatraśuṣkatālatale niśāḥ || 27 ||
The wives and children, with the food of the village, suitable for the village, and the dried palm leaves, spend the nights.
पत्नियाँ और बच्चे, गाँव के भोजन के साथ, गाँव के लिए उपयुक्त, और सूखे ताड़ के पत्तों के साथ, रातें बिताते हैं।

Carried away by the sound of the forest monkeys, with the hairs standing on end, and the cold, I am overwhelmed.

In the rains, held like pearl drops, the forest vines, for the sake of goat and sheep clouds, with hunger, emaciated stomach.
वर्षा में, मोती की बूँदों की तरह थामे हुए, वन की लताएँ, बकरी और भेड़ के बादलों के लिए, भूख से, दुबली कमर के साथ।
कलत्रेण सहाटव्यां कृतः कलह आकुलः | वने रणितदन्तेन शीतकेकरचक्षुषा || ३० ||
kalatreṇa sahāṭavyāṃ kṛtaḥ kalaha ākulaḥ | vane raṇitadantena śītakekaracakṣuṣā || 30 ||
With the wife in the forest, a quarrel was made, distressed, with the sound of the forest monkeys, with cold-eyed deer.
पत्नी के साथ वन में, झगड़ा हुआ, व्याकुल, वन के बंदरों की आवाज के साथ, ठंडी आँखों वाले हिरण के साथ।
मषीमलिनगात्रेण वेतालस्वजनायितम् | सरित्तीरेषु मत्स्यार्थं भ्रान्तं बडिशधारिणा || ३१ ||
maṣīmalinagātreṇa vetālasvajanāyitam | sarittīreṣu matsyārthaṃ bhrāntaṃ baḍiśadhāriṇā || 31 ||
With a body smeared with ashes, the ghost was dragged by its own people | On the riverbanks, wandering for fish, with a spear in hand || 31 ||
भस्म से लिपटे शरीर वाला वेताल अपने स्वजनों द्वारा खींचा जाता है | नदी के किनारे मछली के लिए भटकता हुआ, भाला हाथ में लिये || ३१ ||
कल्पे जगत्सुनाशार्थं कृतान्तेनेव पाशिना | पीतं बहूपवासेन सद्यःकृत्तमृगोरसः || ३२ ||
kalpe jagatsunāśārthaṃ kṛtānteneva pāśinā | pītaṃ bahūpavāsena sadyaḥkṛttamṛgorasaḥ || 32 ||
In the eon, for the destruction of the world, as if by Death himself with a noose | Drunk with much fasting, instantly the deer's chest was cut || 32 ||
कल्प में, जगत के विनाश के लिए, मृत्यु स्वयं फंदे के साथ की तरह | बहुत उपवास से पीने के बाद, तुरंत हिरण का वक्ष काट दिया गया || ३२ ||

tatkālakoṣṇaṃ rudhiraṃ mātuḥ stanapayo yathā | śmaśānasansthitānmatto raktaraktānmalaśinaḥ || 33 ||
At that moment, the warm blood, like a mother's breast milk | Intoxicated, the dwellers of the cremation ground, blood-red, feasting on filth || 33 ||
उस समय, गर्म रक्त, माँ के स्तन के दूध की तरह | मतवाले, श्मशान के निवासी, रक्त-लाल, गंदगी खाते हुए || ३३ ||
विद्रुता वनवेतालाश्चण्डिकाभिद्रुता इव | वागुरा विपिने व्युप्ता बन्धार्थं मृगपक्षिणाम् || ३४ ||
vidrutā vanavetālāścaṇḍikābhidrutā iva | vāgurā vipine vyuptā bandhārthaṃ mṛgapakṣiṇām || 34 ||
The forest ghosts fled, as if driven away by Chandika | The noose was spread in the forest to trap animals and birds || 34 ||
वन के वेताल भाग गए, जैसे चण्डिका द्वारा भगाए गए हों | जंगल में जानवरों और पक्षियों को फँसाने के लिए फंदा फैलाया गया || ३४ ||
आशा इव विवृद्ध्यर्थं पुत्रदारकलत्रजाः | मया मायामयैर्लोकाः सूत्रजालमयैः खगाः || ३५ ||
āśā iva vivṛddhyarthaṃ putradārakalatrajāḥ | mayā māyāmayairlokāḥ sūtrajālamayaiḥ khagāḥ || 35 ||
Like hope for the sake of growth, desires for sons, wives, and wealth | By me, the worlds are illusory, like birds in a net of threads || 35 ||
जैसे आशा वृद्धि के लिए, पुत्र, पत्नी और धन की इच्छाएँ | मेरे द्वारा, संसार मायामय है, जैसे धागे के जाल में फँसे पक्षी || ३५ ||
जालैर्जर्जरता नीता दिशश्चासुकृतायुषा | तत्रापि दत्तः प्रसरो मनसो दुष्कृतोदये || ३६ ||
jālairjarjaratā nītā diśaścāsukṛtāyuṣā | tatrāpi dattaḥ prasaro manaso duṣkṛtodaye || 36 ||
The mind, entangled in the web of old age, is led to various directions by the force of bad deeds. Even there, it finds a way to indulge in evil thoughts.
मन, बुढ़ापे के जाल में उलझकर, बुरे कर्मों के प्रभाव से विभिन्न दिशाओं में ले जाया जाता है। वहाँ भी, यह बुरे विचारों में डूबने का रास्ता ढूँढ़ लेता है।
आशा प्रसारिता दूरं प्रावृषीव तरङ्गिणी | करभ्या इव सर्पेण विद्रुतं दूरतो धिया || ३७ ||
āśā prasāritā dūraṃ prāvṛṣīva taraṅgiṇī | karabhyā iva sarpeṇa vidrutaṃ dūrato dhiyā || 37 ||
Hope is spread far and wide like a river in the rainy season. Like a snake shedding its skin, the mind runs away to distant thoughts.
आशा बरसात के मौसम में नदी की तरह दूर तक फैल जाती है। जैसे साँप अपनी केंचुल छोड़ देता है, वैसे ही मन दूर की विचारों में भाग जाता है।
दूरे त्यक्ता दया देहे भुजङ्गेनेव कंचुकम् | क्रौर्यं सुखेन संरम्भशरवर्षिं निनादि च || ३८ ||
dūre tyaktā dayā dehe bhujaṅgeneva kañcukam | krauryaṃ sukhena saṃrambhaśaravarṣiṃ ninādi ca || 38 ||
Compassion is abandoned far away from the body, like a snake shedding its skin. Cruelty, with ease, roars like a shower of arrows of anger.
दया शरीर से दूर छोड़ दी जाती है, जैसे साँप अपनी केंचुल छोड़ देता है। क्रूरता, आसानी से, गुस्से की तीरों की वर्षा की तरह गरजती है।
अङ्गीकृतं निदाघान्ते नभसेवासिताम्बुदः | विकासिन्यो क्षताः क्षारा दूरं परिहृता जनैः || ३९ ||
aṅgīkṛtaṃ nidāghānte nabhasevāsitāmbudaḥ | vikāsinyo kṣatāḥ kṣārā dūraṃ parihṛtā janaiḥ || 39 ||
Accepted at the end of summer, like a dark cloud in the sky. The blooming ones are injured, the alkaline substances are taken away by people.
गर्मी के अंत में स्वीकार किया गया, जैसे आकाश में काले बादल। खिले हुए लोगों द्वारा चोट लगी है, खारी चीजें दूर ले जाई गई हैं।
श्वभ्रेणेव कुमञ्जर्यश्चिरमूढा मयापदः | स्वकालकुलकोणासु नरकोद्दामभूमिषु || ४० ||
śvabhreṇeva kumañjaryaściramūḍhā mayāpadaḥ | svakālakulakoṇāsu narakodāmabhūmiṣu || 40 ||

grīṣme soḍhā caladbhūtā varāheṇa yathorvarā | bahuśo'haṃ vanotthāgninirdagdhaprāṇimaṇḍalaḥ || 45 ||

kalpāgnibhuktajagataḥ kālasyaanugatiṃ gataḥ| lobhiliṅgo yathā rogamanarthāniva durgrahaḥ| prasūtāstatra me dārā duḥkhānyatha sukhānyapi || 46 ||
