śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca atra te śr̥ṇu vakṣyāmi vṛttāntamimamuttamam jāgatīhendrajālaśrīścittāyattā yathā sthitā || 1 ||
Shri Vasistha said: Now, listen to this supreme story, as the worldly illusion is dependent on the mind.
श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: अब तुम इस उत्तम कथा को सुनो, जैसे संसार की माया मन पर निर्भर है।
अस्त्यस्मिन्वसुधापीठे नानावनसमाकुलः उत्तरापाण्डवो नाम स्फीतो जनपदो महान् || २ ||
astyasminvasudhāpīṭhe nānāvanasamākulaḥ uttarāpāṇḍavo nāma sphīto janapado mahān || 2 ||
There exists a vast and prosperous region named Uttarapandava, filled with various kinds of forests.
इस पृथ्वी पर एक विस्तृत और समृद्ध क्षेत्र है जिसे उत्तरापाण्डव कहते हैं, जो विभिन्न प्रकार के वनों से भरा है।
नीरन्ध्रघनगम्भीरवनविश्रान्ततापसः विद्याधरीकृतलतादोलोपवनपत्तनः || ३ ||
nīrandhraghana gambhīravana viśrāntatāpasaḥ vidyādharīkṛtalatādolopavanapattanaḥ || 3 ||
This region is a place of rest for ascetics, with deep forests and caves, and gardens adorned with vines created by Vidyadharis.
यह क्षेत्र तपस्वियों का विश्राम स्थल है, जहाँ गहरे वन और गुफाएँ हैं, और विद्याधरियों द्वारा बनाई गई लताओं से सजे उपवन हैं।
वातोद्धूताञ्जकिञ्जल्कपुञ्जपिञ्जरपर्वतः लसत्कुसुमसंभारवनमालावतंसकः || ४ ||
vātoddhūtāñjakinjalkapuñjapiñjaraparvataḥ lasatkusumasambhāravana mālāvataṃsakaḥ || 4 ||
The region is adorned with mountains that are swayed by the wind, with blooming flowers and garlands of forests.
यह क्षेत्र वायु द्वारा हिलाए जाने वाले पर्वतों से सजा है, जिन पर खिले हुए फूल और वन की मालाएँ हैं।
करञ्जमञ्जरीकुञ्जगुच्छपर्यन्तजङ्गलः खर्जूरान्तरितग्रामो घुंघुमध्वनिताम्बरः || ५ ||
karañjamañjarīkuñjagucchaparyantajaṅgalaḥ kharjūrāntaritagrāmo ghuṅghumadhvanitāmbaraḥ || 5 ||
The region is filled with forests extending up to the clusters of Karanja and Manjari flowers, with villages interspersed with date palms, and the air resonating with the humming of bees.
यह क्षेत्र करंज और मञ्जरी के फूलों के झुंडों तक फैले हुए वनों से भरा है, जिसमें खजूर के पेड़ों के बीच गाँव हैं, और हवा में भँवरों की गुंजारहट गूँजती है।

ekapiṅgaśilāśreṇīśālikedārapiṅgalaḥ | nīlakaṇṭhāravodāmavana jaṅgalamaṇḍitaḥ || 6 ||
The reddish stone steps, the rice fields, and the reddish soil. The loud sound of the blue-throated peacocks adorns the forest.
लालिमा युक्त पत्थर की सीढ़ियाँ, धान के खेत और लालिमा युक्त मिट्टी। नीलकंठ मोरों की उच्च ध्वनि से वन सुशोभित है।
सारसारवसंरम्भरणत्कनककाननः | तमालपाटलीनीलगिरिग्रामककुण्डलः || ७ ||
sārasāravasaṃrambharṇatkanakakānanaḥ | tamālapāṭalīnīlagirigrāmakakuṇḍalaḥ || 7 ||
The forest is adorned with golden deer and the sound of cranes. The village at the foot of the blue mountain is like a dark earring.
सोने के हिरण और सारस की ध्वनि से वन सुशोभित है। नीले पर्वत के तल का गाँव एक काले कुण्डल की तरह है।
विचित्रविहगव्यूहविरावकृतकाकलिः | नदीपरिसरोन्निद्रपारिभद्रद्रुमारुणः || ८ ||
vicitravihagavyūhavirāvakṛtakākaliḥ | nadīparisaronnidrapāribhadradrumāruṇaḥ || 8 ||
The forest is filled with the diverse sounds of birds and the reddish trees along the riverbank are asleep.
वन विविध पक्षियों की ध्वनि से भरा है और नदी के किनारे लालिमा युक्त पेड़ सो रहे हैं।
गायत्कलमकेदारदारिकाहृतमन्मथः | पुष्पफलचलद्वातव्याधूतकुसुमाम्बुदः || ९ ||
gāyatkalamakedāradārikāhṛtamanmathaḥ | puṣpaphalacaladvātavyādhūtakusumāmbudaḥ || 9 ||
The singing of the girls in the temple steals the heart. The wind scatters the flowers and fruits, creating a cloud of blossoms.
मन्दिर में लड़कियों का गाना हृदय को चुरा लेता है। हवा फूलों और फलों को बिखेरती है, फूलों का बादल बनाती है।
दरीगृहविनिष्क्रान्तसिद्धचारणबन्दिकम् | स्वर्गादिव समानीय लावण्यमभिनिर्मितः || १० ||
darīgṛhaviniṣkrāntasiddhacāraṇabandikam | svargādiva samānīya lāvaṇyamabhinirmitaḥ || 10 ||
The house, having emerged from the cave, is adorned with the beauty of the celestial beings, as if brought from heaven.
घर, गुफा से निकलकर, देवदूतों की सुंदरता से सुशोभित है, मानो स्वर्ग से लाया गया हो।
गायत्किन्नरगन्धर्वकदलीखण्डमण्डपः | मन्दानिलरवोद्भूतः पुष्पोपवनपाण्डुरः || ११ ||
gāyatkinnaragandharvakadalīkhaṇḍamaṇḍapaḥ | mandānilaravodbhūtaḥ puṣpopavanapāṇḍuraḥ || 11 ||
There is a palace adorned with Kinnaras, Gandharvas, and banana trees, which is filled with the sound of a gentle breeze and is as white as flowers in a garden.
वहाँ किन्नरों, गन्धर्वों और केलों से सजा एक मण्डप है, जो मन्द हवा की आवाज से भरा हुआ है और फूलों के उपवन की तरह सफेद है।
तत्रास्ति लवणो नाम राजा परमधार्मिकः | हरिश्चन्द्रकुलोद्भूतो भूमाविव दिवाकरः || १२ ||
tatrāsti lavaṇo nāma rājā paramadhārmikaḥ | hariścandrakulodbhūto bhūmāviva divākaraḥ || 12 ||
There is a king named Lavana, who is highly righteous and born in the lineage of Harischandra, shining like the sun on the earth.
वहाँ एक राजा है जिसका नाम लवण है, जो बहुत धार्मिक है और हरिश्चंद्र के वंश से उत्पन्न है, पृथ्वी पर सूर्य की तरह चमकता है।
यद्यशःकुसुमोत्तंसपाण्डुरस्कन्धमण्डलाः | तत्र शैला विराजन्ते हाराः प्रोद्धूलिता इव || १३ ||
yadyaśaḥkusumottam̐sapāṇḍuraskandhamanḍalāḥ | tatra śailā virājante hārāḥ proddhūlitā iva || 13 ||
The mountains there shine like garlands scattered with the white blossoms of fame.
वहाँ के पर्वत यश के सफेद फूलों से बिखरे हुए हारों की तरह चमकते हैं।
कृपाणशकलोत्कृत्तनिःशेषारातिमण्डलः | अरातिलोकः प्राप्नोति यदनुस्मरणाज्ज्वरम् || १४ ||
kṛpāṇaśakalotkṛttaniḥśeṣārātimanḍalaḥ | arātilokaḥ prāpnoti yadanusmaraṇājjvaram || 14 ||
The world of enemies is destroyed completely by the mere remembrance of him, as if cut into pieces by a sword.
उसके स्मरण मात्र से शत्रुओं का संसार तलवार के टुकड़ों से काटकर पूरी तरह से नष्ट हो जाता है।
यस्याप्सरोमिरद्रीन्द्रमूर्धस्वमरसद्मसु | विकासिपुलकोल्लासं गीयन्ते गुणगीतयः || १६ ||
yasyāpsaromiradrīndramūrdhasvamarasadmasu | vikāsipulakollāsaṃ gīyante guṇagītayaḥ || 16 ||
In the heavenly abodes, the virtues of the king are sung with joy and enthusiasm, as if the Apsaras are dancing with delight on the head of the king of mountains.
स्वर्गीय निवासों में, राजा के गुणों का गान आनंद और उत्साह से किया जाता है, मानो अप्सराएँ पर्वतराज के सिर पर आनंद से नृत्य कर रही हों।
यस्योदारसमारम्भमार्यलोकानुपालनम् | चरितं संस्मरिष्यन्ति हरेरिव चिरं जनाः || १७ ||
yasyodārasamārambhamāryalokānupālanam | caritaṃ saṃsmariṣyanti hareriva ciraṃ janāḥ || 17 ||
People will remember his noble deeds and his protection of the noble world for a long time, just like they remember Lord Hari.
लोग उसके उदार उद्यम और आर्य लोक की रक्षा को लंबे समय तक याद करेंगे, जैसे वे भगवान हरि को याद करते हैं।
स्वप्नेष्वपि न सामान्या यस्योदारचमत्कृतिः | राम दृष्टा श्रुता वापि दैन्यदोषमयी क्रिया || १८ ||
svapneṣvapi na sāmānyā yasyodāracamatkṛtiḥ | rāma dṛṣṭā śrutā vāpi dainyadoṣamayī kriyā || 18 ||
Even in dreams, his extraordinary generosity is not ordinary. Whether seen or heard, his actions are free from the fault of meanness.
सपनों में भी, उसकी असामान्य उदारता सामान्य नहीं है। चाहे देखा जाए या सुना जाए, उसके कार्य दीनता के दोष से मुक्त हैं।
जिह्मतां यो न जानाति न दृष्टा येन धृष्णुता | उदारता येन धृता ब्रह्मणेवाक्षमालिका || १९ ||
jihmatāṃ yo na jānāti na dṛṣṭā yena dhṛṣṇutā | udāratā yena dhṛtā brahmaṇevākṣamālikā || 19 ||
He who does not know deceit, who has not seen arrogance, and who holds generosity like Brahma holds the rosary.
जो कपट नहीं जानता, जिसने अहंकार नहीं देखा है, और जो उदारता को ब्रह्मा की तरह अक्षमाला को धारण करता है।
दिनाष्टभागमाकाशमागते दिवसाधिपे | स कदाचित्सभास्थाने सिंहासनगतोऽभवत् || २० ||
dināṣṭabhāgamākāśamāgate divasādhipa | sa kadācit sabhāsthāne siṃhāsanagato'bhavat || 20 ||
When the sun reached one-eighth of the sky, he sometimes sat on the throne in the assembly hall.
जब सूर्य आकाश के एक अष्टमांश तक पहुंचा, तब वह कभी-कभी सभा में सिंहासन पर बैठा।
सुखोपविष्टे तत्रास्मिन्राजनीन्दाविवाम्बरे | प्रविशन्तीषु सामन्तसेनासु च ससंभ्रमम् || २१ ||
sukhopaviṣṭe tatrāsmin rājanīndāv ivāmbare | praviśantīṣu sāmantasenāsu ca sasaṃbhramam || 21 ||
While he was comfortably seated there, like a king on his throne, the feudatory armies entered with excitement.
जब वह वहां सुखपूर्वक बैठा था, जैसे राजा अपने सिंहासन पर, तब सामंती सेनाएं उत्साह के साथ प्रवेश करती थीं।
गायन्तीष्वथ कान्तासु सूपविष्टेषु राजसु | मनो हरति साह्लादे वीणावंशकलारवे || २२ ||
gāyantīṣvatha kāntāsu sūpaviṣṭeṣu rājasu | mano harati sāhlāde vīṇāvaṃśakalārave || 22 ||
When the beloved women are singing and the kings are well-seated, the mind is captivated by the joyful sound of the veena and flute.
जब प्रिय स्त्रियाँ गा रही होती हैं और राजा लोग अच्छी तरह से बैठे होते हैं, तो मन वीणा और बंसुरी की आनंददायक ध्वनि से मोहित हो जाता है।
चारुचामरहस्तासु सविलासासु राजनि | देवासुरगुरुप्रख्ये विश्रान्ते मन्त्रिमण्डले || २३ ||
cāru cāmarahastāsu savilāsāsu rājani | devāsuraguruprakhye viśrānte mantrimanḍale || 23 ||
In the royal assembly, where the ministers are resting, holding beautiful chowries in their hands, full of grace, resembling the gurus of gods and demons.
राजसभा में, जहाँ मंत्री विश्राम कर रहे हैं, अपने हाथों में सुंदर चँवर लिए हुए, विलास से भरे हुए, देवताओं और असुरों के गुरुओं के समान।
प्रस्तुतेषु प्रविष्टेषु राजकार्येषु मन्त्रिभिः | प्रोक्तासु देशवार्तासु निपुणैश्चारुमन्त्रिभिः || २४ ||
prastuteṣu praviṣṭeṣu rājakāryeṣu mantribhiḥ | proktāsu deśavārtāsu nipuṇaiścārumantribhiḥ || 24 ||
When the ministers have entered and are engaged in the royal duties, and when the news of the country is being reported by the skilled and charming ministers.
जब मंत्री प्रवेश कर चुके होते हैं और राजकार्यों में व्यस्त होते हैं, और जब कुशल और मधुर मंत्री देश की खबरें सुना रहे होते हैं।
इतिह्यसमये पुण्ये वाच्यमाने च पुस्तके | पठत्सु च स्तुतीः पुण्याः पुरः प्रह्वेषु वन्दिषु || २५ ||
itihyasamaye puṇye vācyamāne ca pustake | paṭhatsu ca stutīḥ puṇyāḥ puraḥ prahveṣu vandiṣu || 25 ||
In the auspicious time of reciting history, while the book is being read, and while the humble bards are reciting holy praises in front.
इतिहास सुनाने के पवित्र समय में, जब पुस्तक पढ़ी जा रही होती है, और जब विनम्र कवि सामने पवित्र स्तुतियाँ पढ़ रहे होते हैं।
सभां विवेश साटोपः कश्चित्तामैन्द्रजालिकः | वर्षेणाहितसंरम्भो वसुधामिव वारिदः || २६ ||
sabhāṃ viveśa sāṭopaḥ kaścittāmaindrajālikaḥ | varṣeṇāhitasaṃrambho vasudhāmiva vāridaḥ || 26 ||
A certain magician entered the assembly with great enthusiasm, like a rain cloud filled with rain, ready to pour down on the earth.
एक जादूगर बड़े उत्साह के साथ सभा में प्रवेश किया, जैसे बादल बरसात के लिए तैयार हो, पृथ्वी पर पानी गिराने के लिए।
स ननाम महीपालं शिखरोदारकन्धरम् | पादोपान्तगतः कान्तं शैलं फलतरुर्यथा || २७ ||
sa nanāma mahīpālaṃ śikharodārakandharam | pādopāntagataḥ kāntaṃ śailaṃ phalataruryathā || 27 ||
He bowed to the king, whose shoulders were as lofty as mountain peaks, and who was as dear as a fruit-bearing tree at his feet.
उसने उस राजा को प्रणाम किया, जिसके कंधे पर्वत की चोटियों के समान ऊँचे थे, और जो उसके चरणों के नीचे फलदायी वृक्ष के समान प्रिय था।
सच्छायस्योन्नतांसस्य फलिनः पुष्पभासिनः | स विवेश पुरो राज्ञस्तरोरग्रे कपिर्यथा || २८ ||
sacchāyasyonnatāṃsasya phalinaḥ puṣpabhāsinaḥ | sa viveśa puro rājñastaroragre kapiryathā || 28 ||
He entered the presence of the king, who was like a tall, fruit-bearing tree with beautiful flowers, casting a pleasant shadow.
उसने राजा के समक्ष प्रवेश किया, जो ऊँचे, फलदायी वृक्ष के समान था, जिसके सुंदर फूल थे और जो एक सुखद छाया डालता था।
चपलो लम्पटोऽर्थानामामोदसुखमारुतम् | उवाचोत्कन्धरं भूपं सपद्ममिव षट्पदः || २९ ||
capalo lampaṭo'rthānāmāmodasukhamārutam | uvācotkandharaṃ bhūpaṃ sapadmamiva ṣaṭpadaḥ || 29 ||
Restless and greedy for wealth, he spoke to the king, who was like a lotus-bearing bee, with a pleasant and joyful breeze.
चंचल और धन के लिए लालची, उसने उस राजा से कहा, जो कमल धारण करने वाली भौंरे के समान था, एक सुखद और आनंददायक हवा के साथ।

Look, O Lord, at this one donkey here, standing on the seat, as wondrous as the moon in the sky.
देखो, हे प्रभु, इस एक गधे को यहाँ, आसन पर खड़ा हुआ, जैसे आकाश में चंद्रमा के समान आश्चर्यजनक।
इत्युक्त्वा पिच्छिका तेन भ्रामिता भ्रमदायिनी | नानाविरचनाबीजं मायेव परमात्मनः || ३१ ||
ityuktvā picchikā tena bhrāmitā bhramadāyinī | nānāviracanābījaṃ māyeva paramātmanaḥ || 31 ||
Having said this, the bird was made to wander by him, the creator of various illusions, like the divine illusion of the Supreme Soul.
ऐसा कहकर, उस पक्षी को उसने भटका दिया, जो विभिन्न भ्रमों का सृजन करता है, परमात्मा की दिव्य माया के समान।
तां ददर्श महीपालस्तेजोरेणुविराजिताम् | शक्रः सुरविमानस्थः स्वकार्मुकलतामिव || ३२ ||
tāṃ dadarśa mahīpālastējorēṇuvirājitām | śakraḥ suravimānasthaḥ svakārmukalatāmiva || 32 ||
The king saw her, shining with the dust of glory, like Indra in his celestial chariot, with his own bow-vine.
राजा ने उसे देखा, जो तेज की धूल से विराजमान थी, जैसे इंद्र अपने दिव्य विमान में अपनी धनुष-लता के साथ।

sabhāṃ saindhavasāmanto viveśāsminkṣaṇe tadā | tārāparikarāpūrṇāṃ vyomavīthīmivāmbudaḥ || 33 ||
At that moment, the minister of Sindhu entered the assembly, which was filled with stars, like a cloud in the sky.
उस समय, सिंधु के मंत्री ने सभा में प्रवेश किया, जो तारों से भरा हुआ था, जैसे आकाश में एक बादल।
तं चैवानुजगामाश्वः सौम्यः परमवेगवान् | देवलोकोन्मुखं तुष्टं शक्रमुच्चैःश्रवा इव || ३४ ||
taṃ caivānujagāmāśvaḥ saumyaḥ paramavegavān | devalokonmukhaṃ tuṣṭaṃ śakramuccaiḥśravā iva || 34 ||
And a gentle horse with great speed followed him, like Uchchaihshravas, the horse of Indra, who is pleased and faces the divine world.
और एक सौम्य घोड़ा बड़ी गति से उसका अनुसरण करता है, जैसे उच्चैःश्रवा, इंद्र का घोड़ा, जो प्रसन्न है और दिव्य लोक की ओर मुख करता है।

sa tam aśvam upādāya pārthivaṃ samuvāca ha | soccaiḥśravā iva kṣīrasāgaraḥ marutāṃ patim || 35 ||
He, taking that horse, spoke to the king, like Uchchaihshravas, the ocean of milk, to the lord of the winds.
वह उस घोड़े को लेकर राजा से बोला, जैसे उच्चैःश्रवा, दूध का सागर, वायु के स्वामी से।
इदमुच्चैःश्रवःप्रख्यं हयरत्नं महीपते | जवोडुयनशीलेन मूर्तिमानिव मारुतः || ३६ ||
idamuccaiḥśravaḥprakhyam hayaratnaṃ mahīpate | javoduyanaśīlena mūrtimāniva mārutaḥ || 36 ||
O king, this horse, resembling Uchchaihshravas, is a jewel among horses, swift and strong like the wind personified.
हे राजा, यह घोड़ा, जो उच्चैःश्रवा के समान है, घोड़ों में एक रत्न है, जो वायु के समान तेज और शक्तिशाली है।
अश्वोऽयमस्मत्प्रभुणा प्रभो संप्रहितस्त्वयि | राजते हि पदार्थश्रीर्महतामर्पणाच्छुभा ॥ || ३७ ||
aśvo'yamasmattprabhuṇā prabho saṃprahitastvayi | rājate hi padārthaśrīrmahatāmarpaṇācchubhā || 37 ||
This horse has been sent to you by our lord, O lord! Indeed, the splendor of the object shines beautifully due to the offering of the great ones.
यह घोड़ा हमारे स्वामी द्वारा आपके लिए भेजा गया है, हे स्वामी! वास्तव में, वस्तु की शोभा महानों के अर्पण से सुंदर रूप से चमकती है।
इत्युक्तवति तस्मिंस्तु प्रत्युवाचैन्द्रजालिकः | जलदस्तनिते शान्ते चातकोऽम्बुधरं यथा ॥ || ३८ ||
ityuktavati tasmiṃstu pratyuvācaindrajālikaḥ | jaladastanite śānte cātako'mbudharaṃ yathā || 38 ||
When he had spoken thus, the magician replied, just as a chataka bird replies to a cloud when the thunder has ceased.
जब उसने ऐसा कहा, तब जादूगर ने उत्तर दिया, जैसे कि चातक पक्षी बादल को तब जवाब देता है जब गर्जना बंद हो जाती है।
सदश्वमेनमारुह्य भुवनं विहर प्रभो | स्वप्रतापाहितानल्पशोभामुर्वीं रविर्यथा ॥ || ३९ ||
sadaśvamenamāruhya bhuvanaṃ vihara prabho | svapratāpāhitānalpaśobhāmurvīṃ raviryathā || 39 ||
Mount this excellent horse and wander the world, O lord, just as the sun, with its own heat, makes the earth, which has little splendor, shine.
इस उत्तम घोड़े पर सवार होकर संसार में विचरण करो, हे स्वामी, जैसे सूर्य अपनी गर्मी से थोड़ी शोभा वाली पृथ्वी को चमकाता है।
अश्वमालोकयामास तेनोक्त इति पार्थिवः | निर्घातस्तनितं मेघं मयूर इव सूत्करः ॥ || ४० ||
aśvamālokayāmāsa tenokta iti pārthivaḥ | nirghātastanitaṃ meghaṃ mayūra iva sūtkaraḥ || 40 ||
The king looked at the horse as if it was said by him, like a peacock looking at a cloud with thunder and lightning.
राजा ने घोड़े को देखा, जैसे कि उसने कहा हो, जैसे मोर गर्जना और बिजली वाले बादल को देखता है।
अथानिमेषया दृष्ट्या राजा चित्रोपमाकृतिः | बभूवालोकयन्नश्वं लिपिकर्मार्पितोपमः ॥ || ४१ ||
athānimeṣayā dṛṣṭyā rājā citropamākṛtiḥ | babhūvālokayann aśvaṃ lipikarmārpitopamaḥ || 41 ||
Then, with a steady gaze, the king, whose form was like a beautiful painting, looked at the horse, resembling a painter absorbed in his work.

क्षणमालोक्य पीठस्थस्तस्थौ संस्थगितेक्षणःदृष्ट्या''क्षुब्धः समुद्रो'द्रिमीनकैः करवो यथा || ४२ ||
kṣaṇamālokya pīṭhasthastasthau saṃsthagitekṣaṇaḥdṛṣṭyā''kṣubdhaḥ samudro'drimīnakaiḥ karavo yathā || 42 ||

बोधितः केनचिन्नासौ स्वप्रतापजितोर्जितःधिया कामप्ययं भूयश्चिन्तां चिन्तयतीति च || ४४ ||
bodhitaḥ kenacinnāsau svapratāpajitorjitaḥdhiyā kāmapyayaṃ bhūyaścintāṃ cintayatīti ca || 44 ||

babhūvuḥ kevalaṃ tatra niḥspandasitacāmarāḥcāmariṇyo hi śarvaryaḥ stambhitendukarā iva || 45 ||

वहाँ केवल निश्चल यक पुच्छ पंखे थे, पंखा धारण करने वाले, जैसे चंद्रमा की किरणों से स्थिर हो गए हों।
विरेजुर्विस्मयापूर्णा निःस्पन्दास्ते सभासदःनिःस्पन्दकिञ्जल्कदलाः पद्माः पङ्ककृता इव || ४६ ||
virejurvismayāpūrṇā niḥspandāste sabhāsadaḥniḥspandakiñjalkadalāḥ padmāḥ paṅkakṛtā iva || 46 ||

सभासद आश्चर्य से भरे हुए थे और वे मिट्टी में बदले हुए कमल फूलों की तरह निश्चल खड़े थे।
प्रशशाम सभास्थाने जनकोलाहलः शनैः| प्रशान्तप्रावृषि व्योमन्याम्भोदमिव गर्जितम् || ४७ ||
praśaśāma sabhāsthāne janakolāhalaḥ śanaiḥ| praśāntaprāvṛṣi vyomanyāmbhodamiva garjitam || 47 ||
The commotion of the people in the assembly gradually subsided, like the rumbling of a cloud in the calm sky after the rainy season.
सभा में जनता का शोर धीरे-धीरे शान्त हो गया, जैसे वर्षा ऋतु के बाद शान्त आकाश में बादल की गर्जना।
संदेहसागरे मग्ना जग्मुश्चिन्तां सुमन्त्रिणः| विषीदति गदापाणावसुराजाविवामराः || ४८ ||
saṃdehasāgare magnā jagmuścintāṃ sumantrinaḥ| viṣīdati gadāpāṇāvasurājāvivāmarāḥ || 48 ||

बुद्धिमान मन्त्री, संदेह के सागर में डूबे हुए, गहरी चिन्ता में पड़ गए, जैसे देवता जब गदा धारण करने वाले असुर राजा दुःखी होते हैं।
विततविस्मितजिह्नितया तया जनतया भयमोहविषण्णया| स्तिमितचक्षुषि भूमिपतौ स्थिते मुकुलिताज्जवनस्य धृता द्युतिः || ४९ ||
vitatavismajitajihnitayā tayā janatayā bhayamohaviṣaṇṇayā| stimita cakṣuṣi bhūmipatau sthite mukulitājjavanasya dhṛtā dyutiḥ || 49 ||
