श्रीवाल्मीकिरुवाच | रामः पुष्पाञ्जलिव्रातैर्विकीर्णः पुरवासिभिः | प्रविवेश गृहं श्रीमाञ्जयन्तो विष्टपं यथा || १ ||

śrīvālmīkiruvāca | rāmaḥ puṣpāñjalivrātairvikīrṇaḥ puravāsibhiḥ | praviveśa gṛhaṃ śrīmāñjayanto viṣṭapaṃ yathā || 1 ||

English

Sri Valmiki said: The people of the city covered Rama with handfuls of flowers as he entered the house, glorious, like Jayanta entering heaven.

हिन्दी

श्री वाल्मीकि ने कहा: नगर के लोगों ने राम पर फूलों की अंजलियाँ बरसाईं, और वे उस तेजस्वी घर में प्रवेश कर गए, जैसे जयन्त स्वर्ग में प्रवेश करता है।

प्रणनामाथ पितरं वसिष्ठं भ्रातृबान्धवान् | ब्राह्मणान्कुलवृद्धांश्च राघवः प्रथमागतः || २ ||

praṇanāmātha pitaraṃ vasiṣṭhaṃ bhrātṛbāndhavān | brāhmaṇānkulavṛddhāṃśca rāghavaḥ prathamāgataḥ || 2 ||

English

Then, having just arrived, Raghava bowed to his father, to Vasishtha, to his brothers and kinsmen, to the brahmins, and to the elders of the family.

हिन्दी

फिर, अभी-अभी लौटे हुए राघव ने अपने पिता को, वसिष्ठ को, अपने भाइयों और रिश्तेदारों को, ब्राह्मणों को, और परिवार के बड़े-बूढ़ों को प्रणाम किया।

सुहृद्भिर्भ्रातृभिश्चैव पित्रा द्विजगणेन च | मुहुरालिङ्गिताचारो राघवो न ममौ मुदा || ३ ||

suhṛdbhirbhrātṛbhiścaiva pitrā dvijagaṇena ca | muhurāliṅgitācāro rāghavo na mamau mudā || 3 ||

English

His friends, his brothers, his father, and the group of brahmins embraced him again and again, and Raghava's joy had no limit.

उसके मित्रों, भाइयों, पिता और ब्राह्मणों के समूह ने उसे बार-बार गले लगाया, और राघव का आनंद असीम था।

तस्मिन्गृहे दाशरथेः प्रियप्रकथनैर्मिथः | जुघूर्णुर्मधुरैराशा मृदुवंशस्तनैरिव || ४ ||

tasmingṛhe dāśaratheḥ priyaprakathanairmithaḥ | jugūrṇurmādhurairāśā mṛduvaṃśastanairiva || 4 ||

English

In that house of Dasharatha's son, everyone exchanged sweet, loving words with each other, and the sound rose and spread through the air like the soft rustle of bamboo canes.

हिन्दी

दशरथ-पुत्र के उस घर में सब लोग आपस में मीठी और प्रेम भरी बातें करते थे, और उसकी आवाज़ चारों ओर वैसे ही गूँजती थी जैसे कोमल बाँस के डंठल सरसराते हैं।

बभूवाथ दिनान्यष्टौ रामागमन उत्सवः | सुखं मत्तजनोन्मुक्तकलकोलाहलाकुलः || ५ ||

babhūvātha dinānyaṣṭau rāmāgamana utsavaḥ | sukhaṃ matta janonmuktakalakolāhalākulaḥ || 5 ||

English

For eight days there was a festival to celebrate Rama's return, a happy time, filled with the sweet noise and clamor of delighted people.

हिन्दी

राम के लौटने की खुशी में आठ दिनों तक उत्सव चला, एक सुखद समय, जो प्रसन्न लोगों की मीठी चहल-पहल और शोर से भरा था।

उवास स सुखं गेहे ततः प्रभृति राघवः | वर्णयन्विविधाकारान्देशाचारानितस्ततः || ६ ||

uvāsa sa sukhaṃ gehe tataḥ prabhṛti rāghavaḥ | varṇayanvividhākārāndeśācārānitastataḥ || 6 ||

English

From then on, Raghava lived happily at home, telling here and there about the many different customs he had seen in different lands.

हिन्दी

उसके बाद राघव घर में सुख से रहने लगा, और इधर-उधर विभिन्न देशों की तरह-तरह की रीतियों के बारे में बताता रहा।

प्रातरुत्थाय रामोऽसौ कृत्वा संध्यां यथाविधि | सभासंस्थं ददर्शेन्द्रसमं स्वपितरं तथा || ७ ||

prātarutthāya rāmo'sau kṛtvā saṃdhyāṃ yathāvidhi | sabhāsaṃsthaṃ dadarśendrasamaṃ svapitaraṃ tathā || 7 ||

English

Rising in the morning, Rama would perform his morning prayers exactly as they should be done, and then go and see his father seated in the assembly hall, as glorious as the god Indra.

हिन्दी

राम सुबह उठकर विधि के अनुसार अपनी संध्या-पूजा करते, फिर सभा में बैठे अपने पिता के पास जाते, जो इन्द्र जैसे तेजस्वी दिखते थे।

कथाभिः सुविचित्राभिः स वसिष्ठादिभिः सह | स्थित्वा दिनचतुर्भागं ज्ञानगर्भाभिरादृतः || ८ ||

kathābhiḥ suvicitrābhiḥ sa vasiṣṭhādibhiḥ saha | sthitvā dinacaturbhāgaṃ jñānagarbhābhirādṛtaḥ || 8 ||

English

He would spend a quarter of the day with Vasishtha and the others, honored by their wonderful stories that were full of wisdom.

हिन्दी

वह वसिष्ठ और अन्य लोगों के साथ दिन के एक चौथाई हिस्से तक बैठता, और उनकी अद्भुत, ज्ञान से भरी कथाओं से सम्मानित होता।

जगाम पित्रानुज्ञातो महत्या सेनयावृतः | वराहमहिषाकीर्णं वनमाखेटकेच्छया || ९ ||

jagāma pitrānujñāto mahatyā senayāvṛtaḥ | varāhamahiṣākīrṇaṃ vanamākheṭakecchayā || 9 ||

English

With his father's permission, and surrounded by a large company of soldiers, he went, wanting to hunt, into a forest full of wild boars and buffaloes.

हिन्दी

पिता की अनुमति लेकर और सैनिकों के एक बड़े दल से घिरा हुआ, वह शिकार की इच्छा से जंगली सूअरों और भैंसों से भरे जंगल में गया।

तत आगत्य सदने कृत्वा स्नानादिकं क्रमम् | समित्रबान्धवो भुक्त्वा निनाय ससुहृन्निशाम् || १० ||

tata āgatya sadane kṛtvā snānādikaṃ kramam | samitrabāndhavo bhuktvā nināya sasuhṛnniśām || 10 ||

English

Then he came back to the house, bathed and did the rest of his daily routine, ate together with his friends and relatives, and spent the night with his friends.

हिन्दी

फिर वह घर लौट आया, स्नान आदि अपनी नित्य क्रिया की, अपने मित्रों और रिश्तेदारों के साथ भोजन किया, और रात मित्रों के साथ बिताई।

एवंप्रायदिनाचारो भ्रातृभ्यां सह राघवः | आगत्य तीर्थयात्रायाः समुवास पितुर्गृहे || ११ ||

evaṃprāyadinācāro bhrātṛbhyāṃ saha rāghavaḥ | āgatya tīrthayātrāyāḥ samuvāsa piturgṛhe || 11 ||

English

With his days mostly going by like this, Rama, back from his pilgrimage, lived in his father's house together with his two brothers.

हिन्दी

इसी तरह उसके दिन बीतते रहे, और तीर्थयात्रा से लौटकर राम अपने दोनों भाइयों के साथ पिता के घर में रहने लगा।

नृपतिसंव्यवहारमनोज्ञया सुजनचेतसि चन्द्रिकयानया | परिनिनाय दिनानि स चेष्टया स्तुतसुधारसपेशलयाऽनघ || १२ ||

nṛpatisaṃvyavahāramanojñayā sujanacetasi candrikayānayā | parinināya dināni sa ceṣṭayā stutasudhārasapeśalayā'nagha || 12 ||

English

O sinless one, Rama spent his days like this: his conduct toward the king, his father, was so pleasing that it fell on the hearts of good people like moonlight, an activity as sweet and tender as praised nectar.

हिन्दी

हे निष्पाप, राम के दिन इस तरह बीतते थे: राजा यानी अपने पिता के प्रति उसका व्यवहार इतना मनभावन था कि वह भले लोगों के मन पर चाँदनी की तरह पड़ता था, और यह आचरण प्रशंसित अमृत रस के समान मधुर और कोमल था।
