śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | vātavarṣahimotpātapātabhagne dharātale | jaḍavego'gamadvṛddhiṃ kalāviva mahīpatiḥ || 1 ||
Shri Vasishtha said: When the earth's surface was shattered by storms, rain, and hail, the inert force grew like a king in the Kali Yuga.
श्री वसिष्ठ ने कहा: जब पृथ्वी की सतह आँधी, वर्षा और बर्फ के कारण टूट गई, तब जड़ शक्ति कलियुग के राजा की तरह बढ़ी।
गङ्गाप्रवाहपतितधारापातविवर्धितः | सरित्सहस्रैः सहसा मेरुमन्दरभासुरैः || २ ||
gaṅgāpravāhapatitadhārāpātavivardhitaḥ | saritsahasraiḥ sahasā merumandarabhāsuraiḥ || 2 ||
Enhanced by the fall of the Ganges' stream, suddenly with thousands of rivers, Meru, Mandara, and other mountains shone.
गंगा की धारा के गिरने से बढ़ा हुआ, अचानक हजारों नदियों के साथ, मेरु, मंदर और अन्य पर्वत चमके।
आदित्यपथसंप्राप्तकन्दरो जडमन्थरः | एकार्णवः समुच्छून आसीन्मूर्ख इवेश्वरः || ३ ||
ādityapathasaṃprāptakandaro jaḍamantharaḥ | ekārṇavaḥ samucchūna āsīnmūrkha iveśvaraḥ || 3 ||
The valley that reached the path of the sun became a vast ocean, empty and foolish like a god.
सूर्य के मार्ग तक पहुंची घाटी एक विशाल समुद्र बन गई, खाली और मूर्ख की तरह एक देवता।
विपुलावर्तवृत्त्यात्तविवृत्ताद्रिजरत्तृणः | स्फुरत्तुङ्गतरङ्गाग्रनिगीर्णादित्यमण्डलः || ४ ||
vipulāvartavṛttyāttavivṛttādrijarattṛṇaḥ | sphurattuṅgatarāṅgāgranigīrṇādityamaṇḍalaḥ || 4 ||
With the vast whirlpools and the open mountain slopes covered with grass, the sun's disc was swallowed by the high waves.
विशाल भंवरों और खुले पर्वतीय ढलानों पर घास से ढके हुए, सूर्य का मंडल ऊंची लहरों द्वारा निगल लिया गया।
मेरुमन्दरकैलासविन्ध्यसह्यजलेचरः | गलितावनिपङ्कान्तर्लीनव्यालमृणालकः || ५ ||
merumandarakailāsavindhyasahyajalecaraḥ | galitāvanipaṅkāntarlīnavyālamṛṇālakaḥ || 5 ||
Moving through the waters of Meru, Mandara, Kailasa, Vindhya, and Sahya, melting the mud within, concealed by the serpents and lotus fibers.
मेरु, मंदर, कैलास, विंध्य और सह्य के जल में चलता हुआ, अंदर की कीचड़ को पिघलाता हुआ, सर्पों और कमल की रस्सियों से ढका हुआ।
अर्धदग्धद्रुमवनव्यूहशैवलसंकटः त्रैलोक्यभस्मसंसृष्ट आसीत्कर्दमकुत्सितः || ६ ||
ardhadagdhadrumavanavyūhaśaivalasaṃkaṭaḥ trailokyabhasmasaṃsṛṣṭa āsītkardamakutsitaḥ || 6 ||
The forest was half-burnt and filled with dense grass and thorns, and the three worlds were covered with ashes and became dirty with mud.
वन आधा जला हुआ और घने घास और काँटों से भरा हुआ था, और तीनों लोक राख से ढके हुए और मिट्टी से गंदे हो गए थे।

The sky was filled with massive clouds, and the sun's rays were obscured by the dense network of water streams, causing the lotus petals to wither.
आकाश में विशाल बादल भरे हुए थे, और सूर्य की किरणें जलधाराओं के घने जाल से ढकी हुई थीं, जिससे कमल के पत्ते मुरझा गए थे।
डिण्डीरपर्वतप्रान्तनददुन्मत्तवारिदः भ्रमदिन्द्रानिलार्केन्दुपुरपत्तनपूरणैः || ८ ||
ḍiṇḍīraparvataprāntanadadunmattavāridaḥ bhramadindrānilārkendupurapattanapūraṇaiḥ || 8 ||
The roaring clouds at the edge of the Ḍiṇḍīra mountain were mad with thunder, and they filled the cities with the whirling winds, lightning, sun, and moon.
Ḍiṇḍīra पर्वत के किनारे गर्जन करते हुए बादल पागल हो गए थे, और उन्होंने घूमती हुई हवाओं, बिजली, सूर्य और चंद्रमा से शहरों को भर दिया था।
काष्ठवत्प्रोह्यमाणोग्रसुरासुरजनोत्करः शनैः क्रमोच्छूनतया लिहन्नादित्यमण्डलम् || ९ ||
kāṣṭhavatprohyamāṇograsurāsurajanotkaraḥ śanaiḥ kramocchūnatayā lihannādityamaṇḍalam || 9 ||
Like a piece of wood, the fierce demons and gods were being gradually swallowed by the sun's disc, causing them to diminish slowly.
काष्ठ की तरह, भयंकर असुर और देवता धीरे-धीरे सूर्य के मंडल द्वारा निगल लिए जा रहे थे, जिससे वे धीरे-धीरे कम होते जा रहे थे।

The great mountain was being swallowed with bubbles arising from the roaring waterfalls, causing it to be enveloped in doubt and confusion.
विशाल पर्वत बुदबुदा उठते हुए जलप्रपातों से निगल जा रहा था, जिससे वह संदेह और भ्रम में घिर गया था।
भ्रमद्बुद्बुदविश्रान्तभ्रान्तकल्पान्तवारिदः | उत्तालैस्तैरनाधारैः पश्यन्नपरवारिदम् || ११ ||
bhramadbudbudaviśrāntabhrāntakalpāntavāridaḥ | uttālais tair anādhāraiḥ paśyann aparavāridam || 11 ||
The clouds, exhausted by the wandering bubbles, are deluded by the end of the eon, and seeing the unsupported, lofty clouds, they are not seeing the other clouds.
भ्रमण करते हुए बुदबुदों से थके हुए बादल, कल्पान्त के अन्त में भ्रान्त हो जाते हैं, और असहाय, ऊँचे बादलों को देखकर, दूसरे बादलों को नहीं देखते हैं।
महाप्रवाहवार्योघघोषघुंघुमिताम्बरः | एकप्रवाहमहितसव्योमकुलपर्वतः || १२ ||
mahāpravāhavāryoghaghōṣaghuṃghumitāmbaraḥ | ekapravāhamahitasavyomakulaparvataḥ || 12 ||
The sky is filled with the roaring sound of the great flood of water, and the single stream of the sky is adorned with mountains.
आकाश महान जल के प्रवाह की गड़गड़ाहट से भरा हुआ है, और आकाश की एकमात्र धारा पर्वतों से सुशोभित है।
चण्डवातकृतापूर्वजलौघकुलपर्वतैः | महाघुरघुरारावघर्घरोग्रमहारयः || १३ ||
caṇḍavātakṛtāpūrvajalaughakulaparvataiḥ | mahāghuraghuṛārāvaghargharogramahārayaḥ || 13 ||
The fierce winds create huge waves and mountains of water, producing a great roaring sound that is terrifying and majestic.
तेज हवाएँ विशाल तरंगों और जल के पर्वतों को उत्पन्न करती हैं, जिससे एक भयानक और महिमामय गर्जना उत्पन्न होती है।
ब्रह्माण्डखण्डसंघट्टपरावृत्तिभिरुद्धतः | कुर्वन्योजनलक्षाणि विततान्युन्नतानि च || १४ ||
brahmāṇḍakhaṇḍasaṃghaṭṭaparāvṛttibhiruddhataḥ | kurvanyojanalakṣāṇi vitatānyunnatāni ca || 14 ||
The universe is shaken by the collision of its fragments, causing the formation of vast and elevated expanses.
ब्रह्माण्ड के टुकड़ों की टक्कर से ब्रह्माण्ड हिल उठता है, जिससे विशाल और ऊँचे विस्तार बनते हैं।
तृणैरिव तरङ्गेषु दोलान्दोलनमद्रिभिः | कुर्वद्भिरुपलाघातभग्नभास्करमण्डलः || १५ ||
tṛṇairiva taraṅgeṣu dolāndolanamadribhiḥ | kurvadbhirupalāghātabhagnabhāskaramaṇḍalaḥ || 15 ||
The mountains sway like grass in the waves, causing the sun's disc to be shattered by the impact of the rocks.
पर्वत तरंगों में घास की तरह लहराते हैं, जिससे पत्थरों के प्रभाव से सूर्य का मण्डल टूट जाता है।
शून्यब्रह्माण्डविषुलजलघातकुलायके | नीलानचलकाकोलाञ्जहन्सलिलजालकैः || १६ ||
śūnyabrahmaṇḍaviṣulajalaghātakulāyake | nīlānacalakākolāñjahansalilajālakaiḥ || 16 ||
In the empty universe, the waves of the ocean strike the shores, and the blue mountains echo with the sound of the waters.
शून्य ब्रह्मांड में, समुद्र की लहरें तट पर टकराती हैं, और नीले पर्वत पानी की आवाज से गूँजते हैं।
मृतामृतमहद्भूतमज्जनोन्मज्जनाकुलान् | तरंगमकरावर्तप्रतिबिम्बान्वितानिव || १७ ||
mṛtāmṛtamahadbhūtamajjanonmajjānākulān | taraṅgamakarāvartapratibimbānvitāniva || 17 ||
The great and wondrous beings, immersed in the cycle of life and death, are like the reflections of waves and whirlpools.
जीवन और मृत्यु के चक्र में डूबे हुए महान और अद्भुत प्राणी लहरों और भँवरों के प्रतिबिम्बों के समान हैं।
मृतशिष्टान्पुरभ्रष्टान्फेनाद्रितटिकोटिषु | दधज्जलबलश्रान्तांस्त्रिदशान्मशकानिव || १८ ||
mṛtaśiṣṭānpurabhraṣṭānphēnādritaṭikōṭiṣu | dadhajjalabalaśrāntāṃstridaśānmaśakāniva || 18 ||
The remnants of the dead, who have fallen from the city, are like tired flies on the foam-covered mountain slopes, exhausted by the water's force.
मृतकों के अवशेष, जो नगर से गिरे हैं, फेन से ढके पर्वत की ढलानों पर थके हुए मक्खियों के समान हैं, जो पानी की शक्ति से थक गए हैं।
विपुलाद्यतनाकाशविपुलानम्बुबुदुदान् | सद्वस्रसंख्यान्कलयंल्लोचनानीव वासवः || १९ ||
vipulādyatanākāśavipulānambubududān | sadvasrasaṃkhyānkalayaṃllocanānīva vāsavaḥ || 19 ||
Indra, with his numerous eyes, watches the vast sky filled with expansive water droplets, as if counting the number of good rains.
इंद्र, अपनी अनेक आँखों से, विशाल आकाश को देखता है जो विस्तृत जल कणों से भरा हुआ है, मानो अच्छे वर्षा की संख्या गिन रहा हो।
शरद्व्योमसमाभ्गेगैर्वलद्भिर्बुद्गुदेक्षणैः | पश्यन्निव नदीधारान्भेघानाताम्रपूरकान् || २० ||
śaradvyomasamābhgegairvaladbhirbudgudekṣaṇaiḥ | paśyanniva nadīdhārānbheghānātāmrapūrakān || 20 ||
As if watching the river streams with clouds that are reddish and filled with water droplets, resembling the autumn sky.
मानो नदी की धाराओं को देख रहा हो, जो लालिमा युक्त और जल कणों से भरे बादलों के समान हैं, जैसे शरद् ऋतु का आकाश।
पुष्करावर्तकाभ्राणां बहुभिर्वीचिमण्डलैः| कुर्वन्नालिङ्गनानीव सपक्षाद्रिवदुत्थितैः || २१ ||
puṣkarāvartakābhrāṇāṃ bahubhirvīcimaṇḍalaiḥ| kurvannāliṅganānīva sapakṣādrirvadutthitaiḥ || 21 ||
With many circular clouds resembling lotuses, it seems as if they are embracing, rising like mountains with wings.
बहुत से कमल के समान वृत्ताकार बादलों के साथ, ऐसा लगता है मानो वे आलिंगन कर रहे हों, पंखों वाले पर्वतों की तरह उठ रहे हों।
त्रिजगद्ग्राससंतृप्तः प्रगायन्निव घर्घरैः| स्वैर्नृत्यन्निव चोग्राद्रिकटकैर्वीचिदोर्द्रुमैः || २२ ||
trijagadgrāsasaṃtṛptaḥ pragāyanniva ghargharaiḥ| svairnṛtyanniva cogrādrikataikairvīcidordrumaiḥ || 22 ||
Satisfied with devouring the three worlds, it seems to be singing with rumbling sounds, and dancing freely with the fierce mountain peaks and cloud trees.
तीनों लोकों को निगलकर संतुष्ट, ऐसा लगता है मानो वह गरजते हुए स्वरों के साथ गा रहा हो, और भयंकर पर्वत शिखरों और बादल वृक्षों के साथ स्वेच्छा से नृत्य कर रहा हो।
नदीधाराधरैरूर्ध्वे मध्ये दग्धैर्धराधरैः| अधो धराधरैर्नागैरधरः पङ्कगैर्वृतः || २३ ||
nadīdhārādharaīrūrdhve madhye dagdhairdharādharaīḥ| adho dharādharaīrnāgairadharaḥ paṅkagairvṛtaḥ || 23 ||
Above with the bearers of river streams, in the middle with the burnt mountain peaks, and below with the serpents bearing the earth, the lower part is covered with mud.
ऊपर नदी धाराओं के वाहकों के साथ, बीच में जले हुए पर्वत शिखरों के साथ, और नीचे पृथ्वी को उठाने वाले सर्पों के साथ, नीचे का भाग कीचड़ से ढका हुआ है।

With the continuous falling of the three-path streams, it is submerged and emerges, with the bubbles of the immeasurable mountain peaks and drums.
तीन पथों की धाराओं के लगातार गिरने से, यह डूबता और उभरता है, अपार पर्वत शिखरों और ढोलों के बुलबुलों के साथ।

Carrying the crying pieces of heaven with moving petals, the sky-dweller, carrying the beautiful lotus-like group of Vidyadharis.
चलते हुए पंखुड़ियों वाले रोते हुए स्वर्ग के टुकड़ों को लेकर, आकाश-निवासी, सुंदर कमल के समान विद्याधरियों के समूह को लेकर।
एकार्णवपयःपूरैर्घर्घरारावरंहसि | त्रैलोक्यखण्डसंहारे प्रोह्यमाणे महाम्भसि || २६ ||
ekārṇavapayaḥpūraiṛghargharārāvaraṃhasi | trailokyakhaṇḍasaṃhāre prohyamāṇe mahāmbhasi || 26 ||
With the roaring waves of the ocean of milk, the destruction of the three worlds is being caused by the great waters.
दूध के समुद्र की गर्जना से, तीनों लोकों का विनाश महान जल द्वारा किया जा रहा है।
नासीत्कश्चित्परित्राता हन्ताऽवीचिवशोऽपि च | शक्नोति कः परित्रातुं कालेन कवलीकृतम् || २७ ||
nāsītkasciṭparitrātā hantā'vīcivaśo'pi ca | śaknoti kaḥ paritrātuṃ kālena kavalīkṛtam || 27 ||
There was no one who could protect or destroy, even the one who is under the control of the ocean. Who can protect what has been swallowed by time?
कोई भी ऐसा नहीं था जो रक्षा कर सके या नष्ट कर सके, चाहे वह समुद्र के अधीन हो। समय द्वारा निगले हुए को कौन बचा सकता है?

nākāśamāsīnna diganta āsīdadho'pi nāsīnna tadūrdhvamāsīt | bhūtaṃ na āsīnna ca sarga āsīdāsītparaṃ kevalameva vāri || 28 ||
There was no sky, no directions, no below, no above, no beings, no creation, there was only the supreme water.
न आकाश था, न दिशाएँ थीं, न नीचे था, न ऊपर था, न भूत थे, न सृष्टि थी, केवल परम जल था।
