puṣpakhaṇḍatarucchāyāsuptamugdhamṛgārbhakaḥ | parṇoṭajāgraviśrāntaśukodgrāhitaśāstradṛk || 14 ||
Sleeping in the shade of a tree laden with flower clusters, a charming young deer, resting on a bed of leaves, with eyes wide open like a parrot, grasping the scriptures.

Go to that hermitage of the sage, which resembles Brahmaloka, for prosperity. There, our minds will become purer with virtuous deeds.

tenetyukte ca tāvāvāṃ prāpto munyāśramaṃ ca tam | yāvattatra mahāraṇye paśyāvaścāntarūpiṇam || 17 ||
Having said this, we both reached the hermitage of the sage. As long as we were in that great forest, we saw a being with a different form.
na vṛkṣaṃ noṭajaṃ kiṃcinna gulmaṃ na ca mānavam | na muniṃ nārbhakaṃ nānyanna vediṃ na ca vā dvijam || 18 ||

kevalaṃ śūnyamevāti tadaraṇyamanantakam | tāpopataptamabhito bhūmau sthitamivāmbaram || 19 ||
That endless forest was utterly empty, scorched by heat all around, as if the sky were standing on the earth.
hā kaṣṭaṃ kimidaṃ jātamiti tasminvadatyatha | āvābhyāṃ suciraṃ bhrāntvā dṛṣṭa ekatra vṛkṣakaḥ || 20 ||
Alas, what misfortune has befallen us? Saying this, after wandering for a long time, we both saw a tree standing alone.

The tree was glossy and had dense shade, cool like a cloud. At its base, in deep meditation, sat an old ascetic.

We sat in front of the sage in the shade of a grassy spot for a long time until he emerged from his meditation.
tataścireṇa kālena mayodvegena cāpalāt | uktaṃ mune prabudhyasva dhyānādityuccakairvacaḥ || 23 ||
After a long time, due to my restlessness and impatience, I spoke loudly to the sage, 'Wake up from your meditation.'
śabdenoccairmadīyena saṃprabuddho'bhavanmuniḥ | siṃho'mbudaraveṇeva jṛmbhāṃ kṛtvābhyuvāca ca || 24 ||
With my loud voice, the sage woke up as if a lion awakened by the sound of thunder, yawning and then spoke.
kau bhavantāvimau sādhū kvāsau gaur yāśramo gataḥ | kena vāhamihānītaḥ kālo'yaṃ kaśca vartate || 25 ||
Who are you two virtuous ones? Where has that Gauri's ashram gone? By whom have I been brought here? What time is it now?
tenetyukte mayāpyuktaṃ bhagavanviddhi īdṛśam | na kiṃcidāvāṃ buddho'pi kasmājjānāsi na svayam || 26 ||
When he said that, I replied, 'O Lord, know this: We do not know anything. How do you not know this yourself?'
iti śrutvā sa bhagavānpunardhyānamayo'bhavat | dadarśodantamakhilamasmākaṃ svātmanastathā || 27 ||

After a moment, the sage, awakening from meditation, spoke | Listen to this wonderful thing, O noble ones who know the task || 28 ||
