Vasishtha said: The individual souls, being within the universe, are like the rays of the sun of consciousness. Where their parts are equal, there is the state of being without parts.
yathaikadravyanishthe hi chitte'nyadravysamvidah| na bhavanti pare tadvannanyastishtanti samvidah || 6 ||
Just as in the mind that is fixed on one object, there are no perceptions of other objects, similarly, other perceptions do not exist in the supreme consciousness.
svapneshu kalpanapureshu yathanyadasti chinmatramachchagaganam nanu varjayitva| no kinchanaapi na cha rupamarupakeshu rupam tatha jagati samprati jagradakhye || 9 ||
In dreams, in the imaginary cities, there is nothing other than pure consciousness, the clear sky, except for that. There is no form in the formless, and similarly, there is no form in the world that is currently awake.
purvam kilodbhavati kinchana nam nedam tachchavabhati tadanadi kham eva chittvat| no karanam na sahakari kilasti yatra tasmatsvayam bhavati vastviti keyamuktih || 10 ||
Previously, something called 'this' does not arise. That which appears is beginningless, space itself, because it is consciousness. There is no cause, no co-factor, where it exists. Therefore, it exists by itself, this is the statement.
tasmātsvayaṃ bhavati neha hi kaścidādau brahmādayo'jñaviditā na ca nāma santi | vyomedaṃmātatamayaṃ sa itaḥ svayaṃbhū ritvādi cidgaganameva citā vibhāti || 11 ||
Therefore, it exists by itself; indeed, no one knows it at the beginning, nor do Brahma and others know it, nor does it have a name. This space is pervaded by That, which is self-existent. It shines as the pure consciousness in the sky.
