Vasishtha said: Holding this vision, O Raghava, the destroyer of sins, remain established in the self, which is devoid of attachment, renunciation, and dedicated to Brahman.
sa ātmā tacca vijñānaṃ sa śūnyaṃ brahma tatparam | tacchreyaḥ sa śivaḥ śāntaḥ sā vidyā sā parā sthitiḥ || 6 ||
That is the Self, that is the knowledge, that is the void, that is Brahman, the supreme. That is the ultimate good, that is Shiva, the peaceful, that is the knowledge, that is the highest state.
The non-existent entities appear real due to the illusion of thought. In the web of the world, starting with the ego, there is a false delusion of reality.
Even while engaged in worldly activities, one should remain undisturbed like a mirror. Just as a mirror reflects without being affected, so should one act in the world.
One who has no trace of desire in the heart, even in the mind, is entitled to liberation. Like a reflection in a mirror, the consciousness reflects without division.
ātmanātmani śāntaiva ciccamatkurute citi | citpraspando hi saṃsārastadaspandaḥ paraṃ padam || 21 ||
The self is peaceful in its own nature, and it marvels at consciousness. The vibration of consciousness is the world, and the absence of vibration is the supreme state.
By the pacification of the vibration of consciousness, this transmigration is calmed. In the great consciousness, the duality of objects ceases, which is the dissolution of imagination.
Even though it is not existent, that nature is called the vibration of consciousness. That which is empty and non-inert is said to be the supreme form of consciousness.
mātṛmānaprameyādi kaṭakādīva hemani | pṛthagasti na ca spandaściteryā saṃsṛtirbhavet || 26 ||
Just as gold is separate from the bracelet and other objects, the pulsation of consciousness is separate from the objects of knowledge. There is no pulsation of consciousness in the objects of knowledge. If there were, then there would be transmigration.
The pulsation of consciousness is indeed the mind. The non-realization of that is indeed transmigration. The pulsation of consciousness arises in mere non-realization like the nature of a bracelet.
When the mere realization is dissolved, the pure stream of consciousness remains. By the mere realization of one's own nature, the desire for enjoyment is exhausted.
Here, the absence of desire for enjoyment is the supreme characteristic of knowledge. Therefore, all enjoyments are not desired by the knower by nature.
The one who is deeply engaged in self-practice is known by the word 'knower' | The one who does not enjoy even the enjoyments being enjoyed is wise | For the sake of worldly conformity, he strikes the sky with sticks || 32 ||
Sometimes in the contemplation of the self, even with the destruction of one's own limbs, the consciousness sees delusion as long as it is situated in the realm of concepts || 34 ||
As long as this is of the nature of ignorance, it pulsates in the form of vibration | The proper arising of true knowledge within should be the sequence of the states of vibration and non-vibration || 35 ||
There is no such thing as movement or non-movement here, not even in the slightest. The wind of non-movement is neither present nor absent nor in between.
That form is the calmness of the consciousness-vibration. The vibration of consciousness is non-different, holding the form of pure consciousness-expansion.
na bandhāya na mokṣāya sthita ātmani kevalam | ciccen nirarthasaṃvittinirvāṇe na ca vindate || 39 ||
Not for bondage, not for liberation, the self remains alone. If consciousness, then in the state of purposeless awareness-liberation, it does not find.
Even the state of being bound is considered supreme, for it leads to the highest realization. Know that the ultimate state is one that is beyond perception and is unchanging.
The nature of consciousness is the state of being turned towards the non-conscious. The vibration that is the form of thought and word is the great consciousness.
The one who is worthy of bondage and liberation, when observed, disappears. By observation alone, the sense of self (ahaṃbhāva) is pacified and becomes devoid of any support.
na vidmaḥ kena kiṃ kasya badhyate vātha mucyate | saṃkalpa eva racite budhaścedavibhāgavān || 44 ||
We do not know by whom, what, or for whom one is bound or liberated. It is all a creation of the mind, and if one is wise, one is undivided.
That which is without thought and without vibration, everything that is born is enveloped. In the vibration that is full of vibration, due to its nature, it is always consciousness.
saṃkṣīṇe na ca saṃsāro nispande cittadhane sthite | cittaja eva citspanda iti buddhe nirantaram || 46 ||
When the world is contracted and the consciousness is established in the motionless state, the vibration of consciousness itself is known as the continuous awareness.
vyatiriktaścitaḥ spando na kiṃcidavaśiṣyate | asmindṛśyamaye dīrghasvapne svapnāntaraṃ vrajan | na jño mohamupādatte sarvagatvātsvasaṃvidaḥ || 47 ||
The vibration of consciousness, which is distinct, leaves nothing behind. In this long dream of visible forms, moving from one dream to another, the knower does not accept delusion due to the omnipresence of self-awareness.
Where the essence of creation and consciousness arises spontaneously and continuously, there all the diverse forms dissolve. Where all experiences arise beautifully, realize that inner self through meditation.
