śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | siddhānto'dhyātmaśāstrāṇāṃ sarvāpahnava eva hi | nāvidyāstīha no māyā śāntaṃ brahmedamakramam || 1 ||
Vasishtha said: The ultimate conclusion of all spiritual scriptures is the negation of everything. There is no ignorance here, nor is there any illusion. This Brahman is peaceful and motionless.
Some determine it to be emptiness, some determine it to be pure consciousness, and some determine it to be the form of the Lord. They argue with each other.
Attachment to the mind is the greatest sorrow, detachment from the mind is the greatest happiness. Therefore, lead the mind, which is pure consciousness, to dissolution through non-perception.
saṃvedanīyaṃ na sukhaṃ nāsukhaṃ na ca madhyamam etāvatātmayatnena duḥkhānto'nantha āpyate || 9 ||
That which is perceived is neither happiness nor unhappiness, nor is it neutral. With this much effort, the end of suffering, which is endless, is attained.
The one who knows the essence of the three worlds, like the full moon in the sky, attains happiness. Being fully aware of the essence of all things, he performs actions without attachment, having attained the supreme state.
