Sri Vasishtha said: In this way, Rama, whose eyes are like lotus petals, once wrong has been turned back, reach the state that is beyond opposites; be free of sorrow, for your own good.
In the same way, through discernment, the mind comes to rest, like someone falling into a pit who finds peace by catching hold of a thick clump of firm grass.
So, having thought deeply on this purifying insight and spoken of it too, always stay fixed in one single steadiness, and be an ornament to this earth.
Sri Rama said: Lord of sages, how, and of what kind, can there be this one single steadiness, when the mind trembles like a peacock's feather struck by the wind?
Rama, delight of the Raghus, he became the closest friend of Suraghu, as the spring season is close to the god of love who lives in the Nandana garden.
With his heart turned away from the world, he settled in some far forest that his own townspeople did not know of, as though in another world entirely.
He became free from all opposites, free of every craving, his mind at peace, free from attachment, unmoved even by pity, liberated while still alive, his understanding fully awake.
He roamed as he wished through this little hut that is the three worlds, together with Siddhas and Sadhyas, virtuous one, like a flock of swans on a lake.
te tatra prāktane mitre pūjāmakurutāṃ mithaḥ | pūrṇau vijñātavijñeyau maurkhyagarbhādvinirgatau || 22 ||
There, the two old friends paid honor to each other, each complete, each knowing the other and worth knowing, both having come out of the womb of folly.
True love, whose joy is not put on, spreads into a hundred branches when it is parted. It is like a tree standing at the edge of a pond, its root unbroken, growing thick with branches.
O sinless one, I too have gained this knowledge, the same as you know it. It is born from the grace of the highest self, through the grace of Mandavya.
Is your land so richly fruitful that it bends low, like a tree loaded with fruit, and does it feed your people well with its abundant crop?
Have you filled these directions everywhere with your many virtues, leaving no gap, so that your land is never without water, like the wet fibers of a lotus stalk?
So it was that during these very long years we became strangers to each other, and now we are joined together once more. How strange indeed is the working of fate.
suraguruvāca | bhagavanniyerasya gatiṃ sarpagateriva | daivikyāḥ ko hi jānāti gambhīrāṃ vismayapradām || 43 ||
Suraghu said: My lord, who indeed can truly know the course of this fate, moving like a snake, this fate that comes from the gods, so deep and so full of wonder?
vikirati parito rasāyanānāmiva nikaraṃ madhuraṃ mahānubhāva | tava vachanamavekṣaṇaṃ cha puṇyaṃ paramapadapratimo hi sādhusaṅgaḥ || 48 ||
O great one, your sweet words spread out all around like a heap of rejuvenating medicines. Both your words and the sight of you are holy, for the company of the good is truly the very image of the highest state.
