13.59.1

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca | sarasvatī tathetyuktvā tatraivāntardhimāyayau | prabhāte paṅkajaiḥ sārdhaṃ bubudhe sakalo janaḥ || 1 ||

Sage Vasishtha said: Saraswati said, So be it, and vanished right there. At dawn, along with the lotuses, all the people woke up.

āliliṅga ca tāṃ līlāṃ līlā ca dayitaṃ kramāt | punaḥpunarmahānandānmṛtaṃ projjīvitaṃ punaḥ || 2 ||

He held Lila close, and then Lila held her husband close. Again and again, out of great joy, he who had died was alive once more.

33.59.3

tadāsīdrājasadanaṃ madamanmathamantharam | ānandamattajanataṃ vādyageyaravākulam || 3 ||

Then the king's palace was heavy and slow with the drunkenness of love. It was full of people mad with joy, and loud with the sound of music and singing.

43.59.4

jayamaṅgalapuṇyāhaghoṣaghughumaghargharam | tuṣṭapuṣṭajanāpūrṇaṃ rājalokavṛtāṅgaṇam || 4 ||

It was loud with the deep, rumbling sound of shouts of victory, blessings, and cries of this is a good day. It was full of happy, well-fed people, and its courtyard was crowded with the king's people.

53.59.5

siddhavidyādharonmuktapuṣpavarṣasahasrabhṛt | dhvananmṛdaṅgamurajakāhalāśaṅkhadundubhi || 5 ||

Siddhas and Vidyadharas showered down thousands of flowers on it. It echoed with the sound of mridangas, drums, horns, conches, and kettledrums.

63.59.6

ūrdhvīkṛtabṛhaddhastahāstikastanitotkaṭam | uttālatāṇḍavastraiṇapūrṇāṅgaṇalasaddhvani || 6 ||

It was loud with the trumpeting of elephants raising their big trunks up, and its courtyard rang with sound, full of women dancing a wild, fast dance.

73.59.7

mithaḥsaṃghaṭṭanipatatjanopāyanadanturam | puṣpaśekharasaṃbhāramayasaṃsārasundaram || 7 ||

It was crowded with people who bumped into each other and fell down along with the gifts they were carrying. It was made beautiful by piles of flower garlands worn on people's heads.

vikīrṇāpāditakṣaumaṃ mantrisāmantanāgaraiḥ | sthūlapadmamayaṃ vyoma raktaistāṇḍavinīkaraiḥ || 8 ||

The ministers, the local lords, and the citizens threw down and scattered fine silk cloths. And the hands of the red-clad women dancing the wild dance filled the sky with big lotus flowers.

93.59.9

mattastrīkandharāvṛttalīlāndolitakuṇḍalam | pravṛttapādasampātaprollasatpuṣpakardamam || 9 ||

As the drunken women turned their necks playfully, their earrings swung to and fro. And under the fall of their moving feet, the crushed flowers turned to bright mud.

103.59.10

paṭṭavāsaḥśaranmeghavitānakavitānakam | varāṅganāmukhairnṛtyacchandralakṣagṛhājiram || 10 ||

It had silk canopies spread out like autumn clouds. And its courtyard, with the faces of beautiful women dancing, looked like a yard filled with a hundred thousand moons.

paralokādupānītā rājñī sā patireva ca | iti nirvṛttagāthābhirjagurdēśāntarē janāḥ || 11 ||

That queen, and her husband too, have been brought back from the world of the dead - singing songs made up about this, people in other lands told this story.

padmo bhūmipatiḥ śrutvā vṛttāntaṃ kathitaṃ manāk | cakre snānaṃ samānītaiścatuḥsāgaravāribhiḥ || 12 ||

King Padma, after hearing this story told to him in short, took a bath with water brought from the four oceans.

tato'bhiṣiṣicurviprā mantrino bhūbhujasca tam | labdhodayamanantēhamamarēndramivāmarāḥ || 13 ||

Then the brahmins, the ministers, and the kings anointed him, who had risen again with endless glory, just as the gods anoint Indra, the lord of the gods.

līlā līlā ca rājā ca jīvanmuktamahādhiyaḥ | remirē pūrvavṛttāntakathanaīḥ suratairiva || 14 ||

Lila, the other Lila, and the king - all of them great in wisdom and free while still alive - took joy, as if making love, in telling each other everything that had happened before.

sarasvatyāḥ prasādena svapauruṣakṛtena tat | prāptaṃ lokatrayaśreyaḥ padmeneti mahībhujā || 15 ||

By Saraswati's grace, and by my own effort, I, Padma, have gained this good fortune of the three worlds - so said the king.

sa jñaptijñānasambuddho rājā līlādvayānvitaḥ | cakre varṣāyutānyaṣṭau tatra rājyamaninditaḥ || 16 ||

That king, who had woken up to true knowledge, ruled there blamelessly, together with the two Lilas, for eighty thousand years.

jīvanmuktāsta ityevaṃ rājyaṃ varṣāyutāṣṭakam | kṛtvā videhamuktatvamāseduḥ siddhasaṃvidaḥ || 17 ||

Free while still alive, they ruled the kingdom for eighty thousand years like this, and then, their knowledge complete, they reached liberation without a body.

yadudayaviśadaṃ vidagdhamugdhaṃ samucitamātmahitaṃ ca peśalaṃ ca | tadakhilajanatoṣadaṃ svarājyaṃ ciramanupālya sudampatī vimuktau || 18 ||

That good couple long protected their own kingdom, which was bright from its very start, skilled yet gentle, fitting, good for the self, and kind, a kingdom that pleased all the people. Then they reached liberation.
