सिद्धा ऊचुःपावनस्यास्य वचसः प्रोक्तस्य रघुकेतुनानिर्णयं श्रोतुमुचितं वक्ष्यमाणं महर्षिभिः || १ ||

siddhā ūcuḥpāvanasyāsya vacasaḥ proktasya raghuketunānirṇayaṃ śrotumucitaṃ vakṣyamāṇaṃ maharṣibhiḥ || 1 ||

English

The Siddhas said: It is right that we should now hear the verdict on this purifying speech spoken by Rama, the glory of the Raghus - the verdict the great sages are about to give.

हिन्दी

सिद्धों ने कहा रघुकुल के गौरव राम ने जो यह पवित्र वचन कहा है, उसका निर्णय अब महर्षि बताने वाले हैं; हमें उसे सुनना चाहिए।

नारदव्यासपुलहप्रमुखा मुनिपुङ्गवाःआगच्छताश्वविघ्नेन सर्व एव महर्षयः || २ ||

nāradavyāsapulahapramukhā munipuṅgavāḥāgacchatāśvavighnena sarva eva maharṣayaḥ || 2 ||

English

O foremost sages headed by Narada, Vyasa, and Pulaha - all you great seers - come quickly, without delay!

हिन्दी

हे नारद, व्यास और पुलह जैसे श्रेष्ठ मुनियो, हे सभी महर्षियो, बिना देर किए जल्दी आइए!

पतामः परितः पुण्यामेतां दाशरथीं सभाम्नीरन्ध्रां कनकोद्योतां पद्मिनीमिव षट्पदाः || ३ ||

patāmaḥ paritaḥ puṇyāmetāṃ dāśarathīṃ sabhāmnīrandhrāṃ kanakodyotāṃ padminīmiva ṣaṭpadāḥ || 3 ||

English

Let us fly down together, like bees, all around this sacred, crowded, golden-gleaming assembly of Dasharatha's son, just as bees fly down onto a bed of lotuses.

हिन्दी

आइए, हम सब भँवरों की तरह दशरथ के पुत्र राम की इस पवित्र, घनी और सोने-सी चमकती सभा पर चारों ओर से उतर पड़ें, जैसे भँवरे कमलों के तालाब पर उतरते हैं।

श्रीवाल्मीकिरुवाचैत्युक्ता सा समस्तैव व्योमवासनिवासिनीतां पपात सभां तत्र दिव्या मुनिपरम्परा || ४ ||

śrīvālmīkiruvācaityuktā sā samastaiva vyomavāsanivāsinītāṃ papāta sabhāṃ tatra divyā muniparamparā || 4 ||

English

Valmiki said: When this was said, that whole divine line of sages dwelling in the sky came down and fell upon that assembly.

हिन्दी

वाल्मीकि जी ने कहा यह कहे जाने पर आकाश में रहने वाला वह समूचा दिव्य मुनियों का समुदाय उस सभा में उतर आया।

अग्रस्थितमनुत्सृष्टरणद्वीणं मुनीश्वरम्पयः पीनघनश्यामं व्यासमेव किलान्तरा || ५ ||

agrasthitamanutsṛṣṭaraṇadvīṇaṃ munīśvarampayaḥ pīnaghanaśyāmaṃ vyāsameva kilāntarā || 5 ||

English

Standing at the front among them was Vyasa, lord of sages, dark as a rain cloud thick and heavy with water, his lute sounding on without pause.

हिन्दी

उनमें सबसे आगे खड़े थे मुनियों के स्वामी व्यास, जो पानी से भरे घने बादल की तरह श्याम वर्ण के थे, और जिनकी वीणा लगातार बज रही थी।

भृग्वांगिराःपुलस्त्यादिमुनिनायकमण्डिताच्यवनोद्दालकोशीरशरलोमादिमालिता || ६ ||

bhṛgvaṃgiraḥpulastyādimunināyakamaṇḍitācyavanoddālakośīraśaralomādimālitā || 6 ||

English

That line of sages was adorned by leaders such as Bhrigu, Angiras, and Pulastya, and was further garlanded by sages such as Chyavana, Uddalaka, Ushira, and Sharaloma.

वह मुनियों की पंक्ति भृगु, अंगिरा और पुलस्त्य जैसे प्रमुख मुनियों से सुशोभित थी, और च्यवन, उद्दालक, उशीर तथा शरलोमा जैसे मुनियों से और भी सजी हुई थी।

परस्परपरामर्शदुःसंस्थानमृगाजिनालोलाक्षमालावलया सुकमण्डलुधारिणी || ७ ||

parasparaparāmarśaduḥsaṃsthānamṛgājinālolākṣamālāvalayā sukamaṇḍaludhāriṇī || 7 ||

English

Their deerskin garments had come loose from jostling against each other, their rosary beads swung about in circles, and they carried their fine water pots in their hands.

आपस में सटने से उनके मृगछाला के वस्त्र अस्त-व्यस्त हो गए थे, उनकी माला के दाने गोल-गोल घूम रहे थे, और वे अपने सुंदर कमंडल हाथों में लिए हुए थे।

तारावलिरिव व्योम्नि तेजःप्रसरपाटलासूर्यावलिरिवान्योन्यं भासिताननमण्डना || ८ ||

English

Like a row of stars in the sky, reddened by the spread of their own brightness, they lit up each other's faces and ornaments like a row of suns.

हिन्दी

वे आकाश में तारों की कतार जैसे लग रहे थे, अपने ही तेज की चमक से लाल हुए, और सूर्यों की पंक्ति की तरह एक-दूसरे के चेहरे और गहनों को रोशन कर रहे थे।

रत्नावलिरिवान्योन्यं नानावर्णकृतांगिकामुक्तावलिरिवान्योन्यं कृतशोभातिशायिनी || ९ ||

ratnāvalirivānyonyaṃ nānāvarṇakṛtāṃgikāmuktāvalirivānyonyaṃ kṛtaśobhātiśāyinī || 9 ||

English

Like a string of gems of many colours, they adorned each other's bodies; like a string of pearls, they made each other's beauty shine still more.

हिन्दी

वे मानो कई रंगों के रत्नों की माला की तरह एक-दूसरे के शरीर को सजा रहे थे, और मोतियों की माला की तरह एक-दूसरे की शोभा को और बढ़ा रहे थे।

कौमुदीवृष्टिरन्येव द्वितीयेवार्कमण्डलीसम्भृतेवातिकालेन पूर्णचन्द्रपरम्परा || १० ||

kaumudīvṛṣṭiranyeva dvitīyevārkamaṇḍalīsaṃbhṛtevātikālena pūrṇacandraparamparā || 10 ||

English

That gathering seemed like another shower of moonlight, like a second circle of suns, like a whole line of full moons brought together at one extraordinary time.

हिन्दी

वह समूह मानो चाँदनी की एक और वर्षा हो, मानो सूर्यों का दूसरा मंडल हो, या मानो एक असाधारण समय में इकट्ठा हुई पूर्णिमा के चाँद की पूरी शृंखला हो।

ताराजाल इवाम्भोदो व्यासो यत्र विराजते । तारौघ इव शीतांशुर्नारदोऽत्र विराजते ॥ || ११ ||

tārājāla ivāmbhodo vyāso yatra virājate | tāraugha iva śītāṃśurnārado'tra virājate || 11 ||

English

There, Vyasa shone like a cloud amid a web of stars; and there, Narada shone like the cool moon amid a flood of stars.

हिन्दी

वहाँ व्यास तारों के जाल के बीच बादल की तरह चमक रहे थे, और नारद तारों की भीड़ के बीच शीतल चाँद की तरह चमक रहे थे।

देवेष्विव सुराधीशः पुलस्त्योऽत्र विराजते । आदित्य इव देवानामंगिरास्तु विराजते ॥ || १२ ||

deveṣviva surādhīśaḥ pulastyo'tra virājate | āditya iva devānāmaṅgirāstu virājate || 12 ||

English

There, Pulastya shone among them like the lord of the gods among the gods; and Angiras shone like the sun among the gods.

हिन्दी

वहाँ पुलस्त्य देवताओं के बीच देवताओं के स्वामी की तरह चमक रहे थे, और अंगिरा देवताओं के बीच सूर्य की तरह चमक रहे थे।

अथास्यां सिद्धसेनायां पतन्त्यां नभसो रसाम् । उत्तस्थौ मुनिसंपूर्णा तदा दाशरथी सभा ॥ || १३ ||

athāsyāṃ siddhasenāyāṃ patantyāṃ nabhaso rasām | uttasthau munisaṃpūrṇā tadā dāśarathī sabhā || 13 ||

English

Then, as this host of Siddhas came down from the sky to the earth, Rama's assembly rose to its feet, now full of sages.

हिन्दी

फिर जब सिद्धों की यह सेना आकाश से धरती पर उतरी, तब राम की वह सभा मुनियों से भरकर खड़ी हो गई।

मिश्रीभूता विरेजुस्ते नभश्चरमहीचराः । परस्परवृतांगाभा भासयन्तो दिशो दश ॥ || १४ ||

miśrībhūtā virejuste nabhaścaramahīcarāḥ | parasparavṛtāṃgābhā bhāsayanto diśo daśa || 14 ||

English

Mixed together, those who moved through the sky and those who moved on the earth shone brightly; the light of their bodies wrapped around each other, lighting up all ten directions.

हिन्दी

आकाश में चलने वाले और धरती पर चलने वाले, दोनों मिलकर एक साथ चमक रहे थे; उनके शरीर की चमक एक-दूसरे को घेरे हुए थी, और वे दसों दिशाओं को रोशन कर रहे थे।

वेणुदण्डावृतकरा लीलाकमलधारिणः । दूर्वांकुराक्रान्तशिखाः सचूडामणिमूर्धजाः ॥ || १५ ||

veṇudaṇḍāvṛtakarā līlākamaladhāriṇaḥ | dūrvāṃkurākrāntaśikhāḥ sacūḍāmaṇimūrdhajāḥ || 15 ||

English

Their hands held bamboo staffs, and for pleasure they carried lotus flowers; their topknots were covered with fresh shoots of durva grass, and their hair bore crest jewels.

हिन्दी

उनके हाथों में बाँस की छड़ियाँ थीं, और वे खेल-खेल में कमल के फूल लिए हुए थे; उनकी चोटी दूर्वा घास के नए अंकुरों से ढकी थी, और उनके बालों में चूड़ामणि जड़े हुए थे।

जटाजूटैश्च कपिला मौलिमालितमस्तकाःप्रकोष्ठगाक्षवलया मल्लिकावलयान्विताः || १६ ||

jaṭājūṭaiśca kapilā maulimālitamastakāḥprakoṣṭhagākṣavalayā mallikāvalayānvitāḥ || 16 ||

English

Their matted hair was tawny brown, and garlands crowned their heads; bead bracelets circled their wrists, and strings of jasmine flowers hung about them.

उनकी जटाएँ भूरे रंग की थीं, और उनके सिर पर माला बंधी थी; उनकी कलाइयों में मनकों की चूड़ियाँ थीं, और वे चमेली के फूलों की मालाएँ पहने हुए थे।

चीरवल्कलसंवीताः स्रक्कौशेयावगुण्ठिताःविलोलमेखलापाशाश्चलन्मुक्ताकलापिनः || १७ ||

cīravalkalasaṃvītāḥ srakkauśeyāvaguṇṭhitāḥvilolamekhalāpāśāścalanmuktākalāpinaḥ || 17 ||

English

They were wrapped in garments of bark, covered with silk cloths and garlands; their girdle cords swayed as they moved, and they wore strings of pearls that trembled.

हिन्दी

वे छाल के वस्त्र पहने हुए थे, और रेशमी कपड़ों तथा मालाओं से ढके हुए थे; उनकी करधनी की डोरियाँ हिल रही थीं, और वे काँपती हुई मोतियों की लड़ियाँ पहने हुए थे।

वसिष्ठविश्वामित्रौ तान्पूजयामासतुः क्रमातर्घ्यैः पाद्यौर्वचोभिश्च सर्वानेव नभश्चरान् || १८ ||

vasiṣṭhaviśvāmitrau tānpūjayāmāsatuḥ kramātarghyaiḥ pādyaurvacobhiśca sarvāneva nabhaścarān || 18 ||

English

Vasishtha and Vishvamitra, one after another, honoured all those travellers of the sky with offerings of water, with water for washing their feet, and with kind words.

वसिष्ठ और विश्वामित्र ने बारी-बारी से उन सभी आकाश-चारियों का सम्मान अर्घ्य जल, पैर धोने के जल और मीठे वचनों से किया।

वसिष्ठविश्वामित्रौ ते पूजयामासुरादरातर्घ्यैः पाद्यैर्वचोभिश्च नभश्चरमहागणाः || १९ ||

vasiṣṭhaviśvāmitrau te pūjayāmāsurādarātarghyaiḥ pādyairvacobhiśca nabhaścaramahāgaṇāḥ || 19 ||

English

And those great hosts of sky-travellers, in turn, honoured Vasishtha and Vishvamitra with respect, offering them water, water for their feet, and kind words.

और आकाश-चारियों के उन बड़े समूहों ने भी आदरपूर्वक अर्घ्य जल, पैर धोने के जल और वचनों से वसिष्ठ और विश्वामित्र का सम्मान किया।

सर्वादरेण सिद्धौघं पूजयामास भूपतिःसिद्धौघो भूपतिं चैव कुशलप्रश्नावर्तया || २० ||

sarvādareṇa siddhaughaṃ pūjayāmāsa bhūpatiḥsiddhaugho bhūpatiṃ caiva kuśalapraśnavārtayā || 20 ||

English

The king honoured the whole host of Siddhas with full respect, and the host of Siddhas, in turn, honoured the king, asking after his welfare.

हिन्दी

राजा ने सिद्धों के पूरे समूह का पूरे आदर से सम्मान किया, और सिद्धों के समूह ने भी कुशल-क्षेम पूछते हुए राजा का सम्मान किया।

तैस्तैः प्रणयसंरम्भैरन्योन्यं प्राप्तसत्क्रियाःउपाविशन्विष्टरेषु नभश्चरमहीचराः || २१ ||

taistaiḥ praṇayasaṃrambhairanyonyaṃ prāptasatkriyāḥupāviśanviṣṭareṣu nabhaścaramahīcarāḥ || 21 ||

English

Having received such warm and courteous welcome from one another, those who moved through the sky and those who moved on the earth sat down, each on their own seat.

हिन्दी

इस तरह एक-दूसरे से इतना स्नेहपूर्ण और आदरपूर्ण स्वागत पाकर, आकाश में चलने वाले और धरती पर चलने वाले सब लोग अपने-अपने आसनों पर बैठ गए।

वचोभिः पुष्पवर्षेण साधुवादेन चाभितःरामं ते पूजयामासुः पुरः प्रणतमास्थितम् || २२ ||

vacobhiḥ puṣpavarṣeṇa sādhuvādena cābhitaḥrāmaṃ te pūjayāmāsuḥ puraḥ praṇatamāsthitam || 22 ||

English

Then, with words, with a rain of flowers, and with cries of well said! on every side, they honoured Rama, who stood before them with his head bowed.

हिन्दी

फिर वचनों से, फूलों की वर्षा से, और चारों ओर से "साधु, साधु" कहते हुए, उन्होंने राम का सम्मान किया, जो सिर झुकाए उनके सामने खड़े थे।

आसांचक्रे च तत्रासौ राज्यलक्ष्मीविराजितःविश्वामित्रो वसिष्ठश्च वामदेवोऽथ मन्त्रिणः || २३ ||

āsāṃcakre ca tatrāsau rājyalakṣmīvirājitaḥviśvāmitro vasiṣṭhaśca vāmadevo'tha mantriṇaḥ || 23 ||

English

There the king, shining with the glory of his kingdom, took his seat, and with him sat Vishvamitra, Vasishtha, Vamadeva, and the ministers.

हिन्दी

वहाँ राजा, जो अपने राज्य की शोभा से चमक रहे थे, अपने आसन पर बैठे, और उनके साथ विश्वामित्र, वसिष्ठ, वामदेव तथा मंत्री भी बैठे।

नारदो देवपुत्रश्च व्यासश्च मुनिपुंगवःमरीचिरथ दुर्वासा मुनिरांगिरसस्तथा || २४ ||

nārado devaputraśca vyāsaśca munipuṃgavaḥmarīciratha durvāsā munirāṃgirasastathā || 24 ||

English

Narada, son of a god, Vyasa the foremost of sages, Marichi, and then Durvasa, and the sage of the line of Angiras were there too.

हिन्दी

देवपुत्र नारद, श्रेष्ठ मुनि व्यास, मरीचि, दुर्वासा और अंगिरा वंश के मुनि भी वहाँ उपस्थित थे।

क्रतुः पुलस्त्यः पुलहः शरलोमा मुनीश्वरःवात्स्यायनो भरद्वाजो वाल्मीकिर्मुनिपुंगवः || २५ ||

kratuḥ pulastyaḥ pulahaḥ śaralomā munīśvaraḥvātsyāyano bharadvājo vālmīkirmunipuṃgavaḥ || 25 ||

English

Kratu, Pulastya, Pulaha, Sharaloma the lord of sages, Vatsyayana, Bharadvaja, and Valmiki, foremost of sages, were also there.

हिन्दी

क्रतु, पुलस्त्य, पुलह, मुनिश्रेष्ठ शरलोमा, वात्स्यायन, भरद्वाज और श्रेष्ठ मुनि वाल्मीकि भी वहाँ थे।

उद्दालक ऋचीकश्च शर्यातिश्च्यवनस्तथा || २६ ||

uddālaka ṛcīkaśca śaryātiścyavanastathā || 26 ||

English

And so were Uddalaka, Richika, Sharyati, and Chyavana.

हिन्दी

और उद्दालक, ऋचीक, शर्याति तथा च्यवन भी वहाँ थे।

27

एते चान्ये च बहवो वेदवेदांगपारगाः । ज्ञातज्ञेया महात्मान आस्थितास्तत्र नायकाः || २७ ||

ete cānye ca bahavo vedavedāṅgapāragāḥ | jñātajñeyā mahātmāna āsthitāstatra nāyakāḥ || 27 ||

English

These and many others, masters of the Vedas and the scriptures that support them, great souls who had come to know all that was worth knowing, sat there as leaders of that gathering.

हिन्दी

ये सब और इनके अलावा कई और लोग, जो वेद और उनकी सहायक विद्याओं में पारंगत थे, जो जानने योग्य सब कुछ जान चुके थे, वे महात्मा वहाँ अगुआ बनकर बैठे थे।

वसिष्ठविश्वामित्राभ्यां सह ते नारदादयः । इदमूचुरनूचाना राममानमिताननम् || २८ ||

vasiṣṭhaviśvāmitrābhyāṃ saha te nāradādayaḥ | idamūcuranūcānā rāmamānamitānanam || 28 ||

English

Along with Vasishtha and Vishvamitra, those sages headed by Narada, being learned men, spoke these words to Rama, who stood there with his face bowed.

वसिष्ठ और विश्वामित्र के साथ, नारद आदि विद्वान मुनियों ने, सिर झुकाए खड़े राम से यह कहा।

अहो बत कुमारेण कल्याणगुणशालिनी । वागुक्ता परमोदारा वैराग्यरसगर्भिणी || २९ ||

aho bata kumāreṇa kalyāṇaguṇaśālinī | vāguktā paramodārā vairāgyarasagarbhiṇī || 29 ||

English

Oh, how wonderful - this prince has spoken words full of good qualities, deeply generous, and filled with the taste of dispassion.

हिन्दी

अहा! कितना आश्चर्य है कि इस राजकुमार ने ऐसे वचन बोले हैं जो शुभ गुणों से भरे हैं, बहुत उदार हैं, और वैराग्य के भाव से भरपूर हैं।

परिनिष्ठितवक्तव्यं सबोधमुचितं स्फुटम् । उदारं प्रियमार्यार्हमविह्नलमपि स्फुटम् || ३० ||

pariniṣṭhitavaktavyaṃ sabodhamucitaṃ sphuṭam | udāraṃ priyamāryārhamavihnalamapi sphuṭam || 30 ||

English

Everything worth saying has been said in it, completely; it is full of understanding, fitting, and clear; it is noble, pleasing, worthy of the wise, steady, and clear.

हिन्दी

इस वाणी में कहने योग्य सब कुछ पूरी तरह कहा गया है; यह समझ से भरी, उचित और स्पष्ट है; यह उदार, प्रिय, बुद्धिमानों के योग्य, अडिग और स्पष्ट है।

अभिव्यक्तपदं स्पष्टमिष्टं स्पष्टं च तुष्टिमत्करोति राघवप्रोक्तं वचः कस्य न विस्मयम् || ३१ ||

abhivyaktapadaṃ spaṣṭamiṣṭaṃ spaṣṭaṃ ca tuṣṭimatkaroti rāghavaproktaṃ vacaḥ kasya na vismayam || 31 ||

English

With words that come out clearly, plain, pleasing, plain again, and satisfying - whose wonder does this speech spoken by Raghava not stir?

हिन्दी

जिसके शब्द साफ-साफ निकलते हैं, जो सीधी, मनभावन और संतोष देने वाली है - राघव राम की कही यह वाणी किसे आश्चर्यचकित नहीं करेगी?

शतादेकतमस्यैव सर्वोदारचमत्कृतिःईप्सितार्थार्पणैकान्तदक्षा भवति भारती || ३२ ||

śatādekatamasyaiva sarvodāracamatkṛtiḥīpsitārthārpaṇaikāntadakṣā bhavati bhāratī || 32 ||

English

Only the speech of one person in a hundred has this kind of complete and wondrous excellence, so wholly able to convey exactly the meaning that is wanted.

हिन्दी

सौ में से किसी एक ही व्यक्ति की वाणी ऐसी पूरी तरह अद्भुत और उत्तम होती है, जो चाहे गए अर्थ को इस तरह ठीक-ठीक पहुँचाने में सक्षम हो।

कुमार त्वां विना कस्य विवेकफलशालिनीपरं विकासमायाति प्रज्ञाशरलतातता || ३३ ||

kumāra tvāṃ vinā kasya vivekaphalaśālinīparaṃ vikāsamāyāti prajñāśaralatātatā || 33 ||

English

O prince, apart from you, whose wide, spreading power of wisdom, bearing the fruit of true discernment, comes to such full flower?

हिन्दी

हे कुमार, आपके अलावा और किसकी विवेक रूपी फल देने वाली बुद्धि इतनी दूर तक फैलकर इस तरह पूरी तरह खिल पाती है?

प्रज्ञादीपशिखा यस्य रामस्येव हृदि स्थिताप्रज्वलत्यसमालोककारिणी स पुमान्स्मृतः || ३४ ||

prajñādīpaśikhā yasya rāmasyeva hṛdi sthitāprajvalatyasamālokakāriṇī sa pumānsmṛtaḥ || 34 ||

English

He alone deserves to be called a true man in whose heart the flame of the lamp of wisdom burns like it does in Rama's heart, casting a light like no other.

हिन्दी

वही सच्चा पुरुष कहलाने योग्य है जिसके हृदय में बुद्धि रूपी दीपक की लौ राम के हृदय की तरह जलती हो, और अद्वितीय प्रकाश फैलाती हो।

रक्तमांसास्थियन्त्राणि बहून्यतितराणि चपदार्थानभिकर्षन्ति नास्ति तेषु सचेतनः || ३५ ||

raktamāṃsāsthiyantrāṇi bahūnyatitarāṇi capadārthānabhikarṣanti nāsti teṣu sacetanaḥ || 35 ||

English

There are countless, and more than countless, bodies made only of blood, flesh, and bone that are pulled toward worldly things; not one of them is truly awake.

हिन्दी

खून, माँस और हड्डी से बने ऐसे बहुत से, बल्कि उससे भी ज़्यादा शरीर हैं जो सांसारिक चीज़ों की ओर खिंचे चले जाते हैं; उनमें से कोई भी सचमुच जागा हुआ नहीं है।

जन्ममृत्युजरादुःखमनुयान्ति पुनःपुनःविमृशन्ति न संसारं पशवः परिमोहिताः || ३६ ||

janmamṛtyujarāduḥkhamanuyānti punaḥpunaḥvimṛśanti na saṃsāraṃ paśavaḥ parimohitāḥ || 36 ||

English

English

Only rarely, somewhere, is a single person seen whose mind is pure, one fit to weigh what came before and what comes after - like this crusher of enemies here.

किसी तरह, कहीं-कहीं ही, कोई एक व्यक्ति ऐसा दिखता है जिसका मन निर्मल हो और जो आगे-पीछे की बात सोचने योग्य हो - जैसे शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाला यह राम है।

अनुत्तमचमत्कारफलाः सुभगमूर्तयःभव्या हि विरला लोके सहकारद्रुमा इव || ३८ ||

anuttamacamatkāraphalāḥ subhagamūrtayaḥbhavyā hi viralā loke sahakāradrumā iva || 38 ||

English

People of such surpassing, wondrous excellence and such fortunate form are truly rare in this world, like mango trees among ordinary trees.

ऐसे अद्भुत और श्रेष्ठतम गुणों वाले, सुंदर रूप वाले भाग्यशाली लोग संसार में सचमुच बहुत कम होते हैं, जैसे आम के पेड़ आम पेड़ों के बीच कम मिलते हैं।

सम्यग्दृष्टजगद्यात्रा स्वविवेकचमत्कृतिःअस्मिन्मान्यमतावन्तरियमद्येव दृश्यते || ३९ ||

samyagdṛṣṭajagadyātrā svavivekacamatkṛtiḥasminmānyamatāvantariyamadyeva dṛśyate || 39 ||

English

This wondrous power of true discernment, one that has rightly seen how the world runs its course, is what we see today in this greatly honoured one.

सुभगाः सुलभारोहाः फलपल्लवशालिनःजायन्ते तरवो देशे न तु चन्दनपादपाः || ४० ||

subhagāḥ sulabhārohāḥ phalapallavaśālinaḥjāyante taravo deśe na tu candanapādapāḥ || 40 ||

English

Trees that are pleasant, easy to climb, and rich with fruit and leaves grow everywhere in this land - but not sandalwood trees.

सुंदर, आसानी से चढ़े जा सकने वाले, फल-पत्तों से भरपूर पेड़ तो इस देश में हर जगह उग आते हैं, लेकिन चंदन के पेड़ ऐसे नहीं होते।

वृक्षाः प्रतिवनं सन्ति नित्यं सफलपल्लवाःनत्वपूर्वचमत्कारो लवङ्गः सुलभः सदा || ४१ ||

vṛkṣāḥ prativanaṃ santi nityaṃ saphalapallavāḥnatvapūrvacamatkāro lavaṅgaḥ sulabhaḥ sadā || 41 ||

English

In every forest there are trees that are always full of fruit and leaves, but a clove tree, with its rare and wonderful quality, is not always easy to find.

हर जंगल में हमेशा फल-पत्तों से भरे पेड़ मिल जाते हैं, लेकिन अनोखे और अद्भुत गुण वाला लौंग का पेड़ हमेशा आसानी से नहीं मिलता।

ज्योत्स्नेव शीता शशिनः सुतरोरिव मञ्जरीपुष्पादामोदलेखेव दृष्टा रामाच्चमत्कृतिः || ४२ ||

jyotsneva śītā śaśinaḥ sutaroriva mañjarīpuṣpādāmodalekheva dṛṣṭā rāmāccamatkṛtiḥ || 42 ||

English

Like the cool moonlight of the moon, like the cluster of blossoms on a fine tree, like the streak of fragrance rising from a flower - such is the wonder we have seen coming from Rama.

अस्मिन्नुद्दामदौरात्म्यदैवनिर्माणनिर्मितेद्विजेन्द्रा दग्धसंसारे सारो ह्यत्यन्तदुर्लभः || ४३ ||

asminnuddāmadaurātmyadaivanirmāṇanirmitedvijendrā dagdhasaṃsāre sāro hyatyantadurlabhaḥ || 43 ||

English

O foremost brahmins, in this world burnt up by the unchecked wickedness of fate, true worth is indeed extremely hard to find.

हे श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मणो, नियति की उन्मुक्त दुष्टता से जले हुए इस संसार में सच्चा सार पाना सचमुच बहुत कठिन है।

यतन्ते सारसंप्राप्तौ ये यशोनिधयो धियःधन्या धुरि सतां गण्यास्त एव पुरुषोत्तमाः || ४४ ||

yatante sārasaṃprāptau ye yaśonidhayo dhiyaḥdhanyā dhuri satāṃ gaṇyāsta eva puruṣottamāḥ || 44 ||

English

Those whose minds are treasuries of good fame, and who strive to attain this true worth, are blessed; counted at the very front of the good, they alone are the best of men.

जिनकी बुद्धि यश की निधि है और जो इस सच्चे सार को पाने के लिए प्रयत्न करते हैं, वे धन्य हैं; सज्जनों में सबसे आगे गिने जाने योग्य वे ही श्रेष्ठ पुरुष हैं।

न रामेण समोऽस्तीह दृष्टो लोकेषु कश्चनविवेकवानुदारात्मा न भावी चेति नो मतिः || ४५ ||

na rāmeṇa samo'stīha dṛṣṭo lokeṣu kaścanavivekavānudārātmā na bhāvī ceti no matiḥ || 45 ||

English

No one equal to Rama has ever been seen in these worlds, and we believe that no one as discerning and as noble-hearted as he will ever be born.

इन लोकों में राम के समान न तो कोई कभी देखा गया है, और हमारा मानना है कि भविष्य में भी उनके जैसा विवेकवान और उदार हृदय वाला कोई नहीं होगा।

सकललोकचमत्कृतिकारिणोऽप्यभिमतं यदि राघवचेतसःफलति नो तदिमे वयमेव हि स्फुटतरं मुनयो हतबुद्धयः || ४६ ||

sakalalokacamatkṛtikāriṇo'pyabhimataṃ yadi rāghavacetasaḥphalati no tadime vayameva hi sphuṭataraṃ munayo hatabuddhayaḥ || 46 ||

English

If even we, who can astonish every world, cannot satisfy what Rama's own heart desires, then it is very clear that we sages are truly dull-witted.
