Sage Valmiki said: One should be calm, self-controlled, and withdrawn from forbidden actions. One should be endowed with faith and detached from the pleasures of the senses.
One should dissolve the earthly part starting from flesh into the earth | The watery part starting from blood into water | The fiery part into fire
One should dissolve the airy part into the great wind | The ethereal part into the ether | Having placed the senses in their respective sources starting from the earth
One should dissolve the eye in the orb of the sun | The tongue in water | The breath in the wind | Speech in fire | The hand in Indra
He, in the form of the creator of the sacrifice, is established in the course of the world. From the double-sized egg, the earth; from the earth, the double-sized water.
The sages said: O Rama, in this way, the minds of all have attained steadiness by your grace, and everything has been firmly established through conversation.
The entire universe is interwoven with the pervading element, both in its individual and collective forms. One should merge the earth into water and water into fire.
The wise know that the subtle body consists of the ten senses, the mind, and the intellect. From there, one should go beyond the half-egg and contemplate, 'I am the Self.'
The four-faced one is established in the subtle elements at the beginning. The wise one places the subtle body in the unmanifest and the unmanifest in the subtle.
Creation is remembered in the order of manifestation, and dissolution in the reverse order. Therefore, leaving behind the three states, one attains the fourth, imperishable state.
bharadvāja uvāca | ajñānaṃ ca pratiṣṭhāḥ syurliṅgamavyākṛte sati | idānīṃ liṅganigadānmukto'haṃ sarvathā yataḥ || 26 ||
Bharadvaja said: Ignorance and its manifestations exist in the unmanifested state | Now I am completely free from the bondage of the linga (subtle body) || 26 ||
Due to the nature of consciousness, I have entered the ocean of blissful consciousness | Due to non-difference, I am the Supreme Self, devoid of all limitations || 27 ||
I am the immutable, pure, all-pervading, and possessor of the power of consciousness and unconsciousness | Just as the space within a pot merges with the universal space when the pot is destroyed || 28 ||
If you do not calm the whirlpool of the cycle of worldly existence | Bharadvaja said | O Guru, all this knowledge that you have spoken has been understood by me
pravṛttaṃ vā nivṛttaṃ vā kartavyaṃ ca na vā prabho | śrīvālmīkiruvāca | tasmādyanna kṛte doṣastatkartavyaṃ mumukṣubhiḥ || 44 ||
Whether it is engaged in action or disengaged, or whether it is to be done or not, O Lord | Shri Valmiki said | Therefore, that which does not cause fault should be done by those seeking liberation
kāmyaṃ karma niṣiddhaṃ ca na kartavyaṃ viśeṣataḥ | yadā brahmaguṇairjīvo yuktastyaktvā manoguṇān || 45 ||
Desirable actions and forbidden actions should not be performed, especially | When the individual, united with the qualities of Brahman, abandons the qualities of the mind
When one meditates on 'I am That,' the individual soul is liberated, freed from the roles of doer and enjoyer, and devoid of all limitations.
When one enters the bliss of the fourth state, the individual soul is liberated. The state of the individual soul known as the fourth is in the supreme self.
Why do you immerse yourself in the waves of the ocean of duality and attachment? Worship the supreme lord, the teacher of the world, who is full of enjoyment.
Through practice, all accomplishments can be achieved, as per the Vedic teachings. Therefore, you should abandon everything and focus your mind steadfastly on practice.
Having known this, I too will strive for practice in the same way. Similarly, my worldly affairs will also be in accordance with my spiritual practice.
darśanātsparśanācchabdātkṛpayā śiṣyadehake | janayedyāḥ samāveśaṃ śāṃbhavaṃ sa hi deśikaḥ || 61 ||
One who, through sight, touch, and sound, graciously brings about the absorption of the disciple's body into the state of Śāmbhava, is indeed the true teacher.
rāmo'pyayaṃ viśuddhātmā viraktaḥ svātmanaiva hi | vibhrāntimātrākāṅkṣī ca saṃvādātprāptavānpadam || 62 ||
This Rama, with a pure soul, is detached from his own self and desires only to be free from delusion. Through dialogue, he has attained the supreme state.
The disciple's wisdom is indeed the cause of enlightenment through the guru's words. If the three impurities are not ripe, how can one understand as if they are ripe?
Rama, the destroyer of demons, has been brought by me to the hermitage of the perfected beings. He will then grant liberation to Ahalya, the daughter of Janaka.
Desiring the purity of Sita and the approval of the world for himself | Though liberated in life and without desire, he will be devoted to ritual actions || 73 ||
He will attain the path to see the union of knowledge and action | By those who see him, remember him, hear him, or are enlightened by him || 74 ||
sarvāvasthāgatānāṃ tu jīvanmuktiṃ pradāsyati | iti kāryamaśeṣeṇa trailokyasya mamāpi hi || 75 ||
He will grant liberation in life to all beings in every state | Thus, he will completely fulfill the task of the three worlds and mine as well || 75 ||
Vasistha said: The blessed sage Vasistha said to the sage Vishvamitra, 'Tell me, O sage Vishvamitra, who is this lotus-eyed Rama? Is he a wise man or a human being or Raghava?'
Sometimes he appears as if liberated and self-realized, sometimes he is known as the fourth state, sometimes he is the one who leads the nature, and sometimes he is established in that state.
This divine being, composed of the three Vedas, transcends the three gunas. He conquers with his six limbs, the wonderful Purusha, the soul of the Vedas.
Rama, who has descended, is the one who resides within the ocean. He is the embodiment of consciousness and bliss, the supreme soul, and is imperishable.
Vasishtha said: O Rama, O mighty-armed one, O supreme being, O embodiment of consciousness, this is not the time for rest; be the cause of joy in the world.
Sri Valmiki said: Even though addressed thus, when Rama did not respond and became absorbed in thought, he then entered his heart through the Suṣumnā channel.
The living being, endowed with the power of prana, mind, and senses, is of the nature of pure consciousness. With all senses fully nourished through the subtle channels, he gradually opened his eyes. Seeing the eminent sage Vasishtha, free from all desires, devoid of thoughts of duty and non-duty, he waited for all.
śrīrāma uvāca | sarve śrṇuta bhadraṃ vo niścayena suniścitam | ātmajñānātparaṃ nāsti gurorapi ca tadvidaḥ || 105 ||
Sri Rama said: Listen, all of you, to this auspicious and well-ascertained truth. There is nothing higher than self-knowledge, even for the guru who knows that.
Thus, the accomplishment of Raghupati (Rama) has been narrated by me to you, which is a beautiful garland of the words of great sages. It is revered by all poets and yogis and bestows the path of liberation through the glance of the supreme guru.
